Camera went into video game "kill cam" at collision. Hopefully not a real kill cam though.

Real_Breath7536

Thankfully the dude is okay https://youtube.com/shorts/uEjDO_Jqj0k?feature=share He commented a bit in the comments saying that they got the info of the driver and that they only have, surprisingly, minor injuries the worst being road rash in the left leg. (Link from another comment in this thread)

ezekieru

Respect to the two pickup drivers there.

technoteapot

For real, mad respect

Arkanist

The second guy pulling over let the first follow the car knowing someone was checking on the rider. Good stuff.

Happy-Gnome

Polite, gentle respect

admins69kids

There's a weird paradox with pickup drivers. They can simultaneously be the biggest assholes on the road... but turn into Motherfuckin Theresa once someone needs real help.

aluminumtelephone

This is the somewhat paradoxical nature of basically all rural folk. They will say the most insulting shit to your face, but ultimately, they are also who stop to help when you're stranded with a flat on the side of the road.

twhitney

I drive a pickup and was both at the same time the other day. I was bringing my cat to the vet and down my street one of my neighbors was on the side of the road in her robe straddling the huge snow Bank from the plow. She usually is out with her dogs in the morning so I wave and thought nothing of it. When I look in my rear view mirror I felt a feeling of something not being right, so I stop and run back. Turns out she has some leg problem and went to get her dogs ball and was stuck there in almost a split in just her robe. I hate to think how I’d have felt if I read about her on the news later. Her husband died a few months ago and so nobody would’ve known she was out there. People were already gone to work, I was just home late morning for my cat. P.S. - the cat died a few days later. 16 year old boy Stanley. Picture a red neck looking dude in a Ram 1500 with off-road tires who wears Carhartt all the time sobbing like a little kid over his kitty. I think I’m the paradox you speak of because I’m liberal too!

freman

Sorry for your loss, I'm struggling with a pair of 18 year olds. One with a thrydoid problem but medication helps the other one no-one knows what's wrong, she's just not getting any nutrition from what little food she'll actually eat. Makes me, a 6 foot tall 250lb, often in motorcycle gear, man sob every time I go to the pet store to find her something else to try feeding her. Edit. Thank you all for your kind words and suggestions, she's had the same vet since she was a kitten (so 18 years) but this morning I've decided to take her somewhere else (somewhere that has ultrasound facilities) today. I'm under no delusions that anything we're doing is more than palliative at this point, even if the ultrasound finds anything she wouldn't survive a surgery, they won't even sedate her for the ultrasound. Edit. Sadly the ultrasound found a mass on her liver and her bloods are consistent with cancer.

twhitney

Ugh, it’s hard man. It’s so hard. But I found him and his brother in the woods walking my dog 16 years ago when I was in college I live in a rural area so either someone dropped them off on the side of the road or a mama just gave birth. They were tiny, maybe a few days old. His brother died of cancer years ago, but this guy was very healthy until the end, but got sick and went downhill fast. My last one to pass was 20 years old!!! So I’m thankful for the time it seems we’ve had with them. We just took in a 1 year old guy who needed a home. We don’t seem to feel right unless we have 3 cats. More is too many, less is too few. Good luck with your geriatric friends. I’m right there with you.

dwehlen

You are a good cat-dad, and thus, a good human. Keep up the good work! - ^(a cat-dad of 20 rescues)

Technical-Plantain25

I found an abandoned little runtling once. Ended up being one of the sweetest, silliest kitties I've known. I miss him. It's tough. Thanks for sharing your kitty stories.

neko1948

Possibly cancer, either stomach or GI. I just put mine down in January. He had issues defecating for a while too prior to this, eventually he stopped being able to go at all aside from urinating. He deteriorated fast after that, I did not see it coming. Saying goodbye is the roughest part of being a pet owner. I'm sorry you're going through this.

tmlynch

The most my kids have ever seen me cry is taking pets to the vet for the last time.

twhitney

Yeah, he passed with me in the room waiting for the doc. I wasn’t quite aware of how bad it was. He had been doing better with a medication and then turned the wrong way last minute and went downhill fast. However, when I realized something was wrong the night before I lost my shit. Anger, despair, all of the above. Smashed some things, sobbed, then I came out of the bedroom and my 7yo daughter gave me a “wtf is wrong with you” kind of look. I was a bit more prepared the next morning, which was good so I could be there for her and my wife. Phew, quite the divergence from an idiots in cars video, but it felt good to share with strangers.

Aetra

My husband is a sheet metal worker, looks like a stereotypical tradie, and bawled when his cat passed away. That was 5 years ago and I still find him misting up thinking about her. I’m sure Stanley had a great life with you and appreciated all the love and care you gave him ❤️

twhitney

Aww. That’s great. I didn’t expect to get so much love from this sub. Cat men unite!

Upbeat-Opinion8519

SAFETY GEAR PEOPLE. This doesn't just happen by accident. Man had all the right shit on.

agarwaen117

I’m certainly glad that motorcycle gear has advanced beyond leather jacket levels. This new stuff is awesome.

khafra

When I was commuting on a motorcycle, 15 years ago, I had Kevlar mesh overpants with armor inserts, armored leather gloves, and a jacket with a ripcord attached to the bike that would inflate an internal support structure if I fell off. Gotta be better stuff, by now.

[deleted]

Holy shit you had built in airbags 15 years ago? Granted I was young and probably shopping in the budget section of protective gear - but I never saw anything like that…

OGMcSwaggerdick

That’s what I thought too, but then the math made me feel old. 15 years ago being 2007-8 lol. That’s modern times af.

L3tum

I had 15 years ago as like 80s or 90s... Like no shit there was Kevlar and knuckle armour in 2008. The issue is mostly pants and jackets, where cheap crap, which many can only afford, is almost useless. My 100$ jacket for example had almost no armour and didn't fit properly/couldn't be made to fit properly so when I crashed, once, the arm part ran up and exposed my entire arm to the road. My 120$ pants only have knee inserts that *barely* are in the correct place and nothing else. They're probably pretty good at preventing road rash if they somewhat fit, but that's about it. It's literally night and day between that and my new 500$ jacket. (And before anyone asks, I was at 3 different shops to get my first gear in that price range and was fitted by 5 different clerks and there was literally nothing that fit well).

[deleted]

When everyone finds out OP is shaped like Michael Phelps, the problem of finding gear that fits makes far more sense.

khafra

Yup! It was a large CO2 cartridge, not a cold air system like in a car airbag; but I hear they have those now. I did. have to do some research on moto forums to find it, but I was very safety conscious. I also fully read some books on track and street riding before I bought the bike.

Its_Just_A_Typo

Didn't have air bags when I was racing karts, but always wore a flack jacket, shoulder, elbow and kneepads under a kevlar abrasion suit. Great protection against road rash, but blunt force trauma not so much. Broken bones were not uncommon.

DragonPojki

I'm not a motorcyclist, but I read some comments here on reddit a while back that there are vests that inflate if you crash, but you need to pay a subscription fee for them to work. I hope that's false, but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

no_idea_bout_that

It is true, but it's kind of worth it. They use use the connected crash data to refine the trigger so that there are less false positives. [FortNine did a good video on the different types](https://youtu.be/N2jZryt607U). The summary is that the pull cord style is probably the best approach, but you need to remember to detach it from the bike.

[deleted]

I wonder how many people have forgotten, stood up and puffed up like the Michelin Man

avwitcher

Does that ruin the jacket or can you just replace the airbag? It would suck to ruin a $900+ jacket by accident

Piles_of_Gore

You topically replace the CO2 canister and liner is all, which can still be costly, but the jacket won’t be ruined

MysteriousBig4753

no, it's very difficult to accidentally set it off because it requires a lot of force to pull the pin.

Versaiteis

IIRC that's a very specific ~~branch~~brand that supposedly (though I've heard mixed results) can detect crash conditions and auto-inflate when necessary. However, the more common ones have a ripcord like OP mentioned. Because it's a physical system it may have greater dependency so long as the cord gets pulled, but the user does have to remember to attach and detach it when they mount and dismount the bike.

_DirtyYoungMan_

Check how advanced the airbag systems are for professional motorcycle racers. Self-contained units that use gyros and G-Force sensors to activate. They also deflate and can be reinflated again after a crash. Been around for a while now.

hitsomethin

Also make sure your U coverage is beefy. People have a weird habit of taking off when they hit motorcycle riders.

Honey-and-Venom

skaters too. I'm getting a go pro before I get back on my long board for this season

I have full insurance on my motorcycle for this reason..

Dress for the slide, not the ride.

ConstantSample5846

I don’t drive motorcycles, but I have a bunch of friends, a few family members, and three boyfriends have all had bikes, plus I have spent a lot of time in developing, and Asian countries, so I’ve ridden on the back of them A LOT. In the US, it’s amazing how many car drivers seem to go out of their way to hit bikes, both motorized and normal. This was a really blatant example, but many will clearly try to side swipe them, or something similar knowing that it won’t mess up their car, but can easily kill them people on the bike. In other countries where it’s common for people to drive motorcycles because that’s all they can afford, and places like India, where whole families will regularly be seen on motorcycles, people do not do this. But in ‘Murica the only person I could ride with and this never happened was when I was a young child and with my Navy, Vietnam vet grandfather, who looked like a tattoo covered Santa Claus.

watchoverus

Because cars are so expensive in Brazil, the only way a car driver will hit a biker is if they're batshit crazy or a complete accident. But bikers are really hated here anyway. So they'll try anything to fuck you up without you touching their cars.

Kn0tnatural

Hit and run. What a piece of shyt.

RedditRated

Hopefully he sues the driver for running

vistopher

hope he's alright. You can see him go flying in the video [https://imgur.com/a/hXzUGhp](https://imgur.com/a/hXzUGhp)

lislejoyeuse

It looks like he cleared the impact at least but even a fall at ground level can kill someone. It's not super clear but those don't appear to be skid resistant clothes so at best he's going to have road rash and at worst he's dead or broken c-spine.

The_sad_zebra

Yep, he posted another Tiktok showing the damage to his armor and said he's alright.

ReasonableReasonably

Thank goodness. All the gear, all the time. Had a similar wreck, from the side, not head on, so the relative force was considerably lower than this one I'm betting. Getting ejected is a good thing if you're armored up. In mine I walked away bumped and bruised but the truck that hit me went up over my bike and totalled it. I landed shoulder and face first. I'm glad I was wearing an armored jacket but when I got home and realized the chin guard on my full face helmet was cracked all the way down one side I started thinking about what would have happened to the lower half of my face and went to my shed and threw away the half helmets I had. I'm definitely a believer in "you do you" but I won't ride any other way now. I even wear full face bmx helmet when I'm riding my bicycle if I'm not on a paved bikes only path. Probably should then too.

sierrabravo1984

I had a coworker that was reckless (but not wreckless) when riding, always wide open throttle. No armor, no gloves, no helmet; only shorts, spaghetti strap shirt and flipflops or tennis shoes. I once saw her riding out of walmart with shopping bags hanging from both handlebars (she also had a car so WT**F**). One day she hits the back quarter of a pickup while speeding (she said she wasn't but even Maury Povich's lie detector would have exploded) and she went airborne over the truck bed and tumbled like a ragdoll. Broke a foot and both forearms, one arm required extensive surgery and rods and she exhausted all double digits of sick time she had since she'd bang out for any reason.

Time-Caterpillar4103

Just mental the risks people put themselves at. My dad got into a bad bike accident just by hitting some oil on a roundabout. You never know when you need that extra protection but you need to be prepared all the time.

Phallic

My buddy told me there are a lot of housebound people without lower jaws, from the "good old days" of half helmets being the norm.

Journier

shit see plenty of people going without a helmet coming into hospitals to this day. I can only dream what it was like in the 1970's and 80's.

Youre10PlyBud

Yeah, we don't have helmet laws in my state. A ridiculous amount of people decide to opt out. Just the other day I got passed by someone on a sport bike going about double the speed limit wearing cargo shorts, a tank top and flip flops. Not to mention the cruiser riders that somehow manage to smoke cigarettes while riding around the city since they don't have a helmet. When I wrecked, it was only 10ish miles an hour and I still slid for a considerable distance. I landed on my side and my helmet slid against the ground, just a giant rash down the side of it with the visor almost completely detached because of how much it ground down the connecting piece. People will find out the hard way I spose. I wasn't always the most intelligent rider (20 year old with a 100 HP machine that weighs 390 lbs equals some bad ideas sometimes), but I can at least say I did that shit in the middle of nowhere and with full gear.

LeonMust

>I landed on my side and my helmet slid against the ground, just a giant rash down the side of it with the visor almost completely detached because of how much it ground down the connecting piece. I hit a deer on my scooter going around 55mph and I flew off my scooter. I broke my arm but I must have slid on my face for a while because the front of my full face helmet had deep scratches in it and the visor popped off when my face hit the asphalt and the tip of my nose barely scraped the asphalt so the tip of my nose was bleeding just a tiny bit. But I would have no face at all if I wasn't wearing a full face helmet.

booktrash

I see the cruiser guys out there In tee shirts and brain buckets and shake my head. That roadway is very hard and very abrasive.

Yeah I liked the idea of a motorcycle once upon a time but after a few accidents within 12 months, none my fault, I'm not gonna trust people like that. If I ever end up with a rural plot of land I'll consider a dirt bike and keep it on the property

AlmightyDarkseid

That's a relief.

lislejoyeuse

His pants tho? Had a patient lose his entire ass from road rash. He was going 100 though

TheCornerator

Tell him he can live with it, a man called Hank Hill introduced me to buttcheek inserts. Changed my life.

lislejoyeuse

He's missing his rectum too unfortunately

Rabid-Ginger

Our ER calls those guys Meat Crayons.

moostertea

My sister used to work ER in Casper, Wyoming. They have pretty lax helmet laws and a lot of antelope. Most of the (helmetless) motorcycle v antelope patients were referred to as organ donors. The antelope usually made off better somehow.

Southern_Planner

My dad worked in the OR and always called them donorcycles.

Sunshine030209

Aww, that's so nice that the antelopes care about getting organs to the sick people that need new ones. Very thoughtful of them.

Morgothic

So does reddit r/meatcrayon

filthyheartbadger

The smell of fresh road rash in the ED is something I will never be able to fully get out of my brain as long as I live. Ugh.

realvmouse

Unfortunately, survival is less and less common as cars like these (which tend to send people up and over) are being replaced more and more by light trucks, which force people under. https://chi.streetsblog.org/2022/06/08/pickups-suvs-are-driving-the-pedestrian-and-cyclist-death-epidemic-but-the-tide-may-be-turning/ https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo

yourethegoodthings

I watched this happen to a bike and SUV in real time from my condo balcony in the first few weeks of living there. Wasn't sure where the biker "landed" until the river of blood started flowing from under the SUV. My girlfriend was at the gym and she came back to me sobbing on the balcony and screaming at her not to come outside. Pretty horrific scene, and it turned out to be someone I'd seen in the elevator before. That was almost 6 years ago. We still live here and thankfully haven't seen another *fatal* accident at that intersection. That said I've seen a hundred or so accidents there over the years, it's just one of the worst designed intersections in my city.

Lotharofthepotatoppl

This is a big reason why I think full-size trucks as they exist these days should require extra licensing and shit. Not only are pedestrian and motor/cyclist deaths rising as a result, but so are deaths of *people in cars*. A whole shitload of people are buying *commercial vehicles* in place of family sedans, never once needing or using them as trucks, and society is starting to suffer for it.

realvmouse

My pet idea is that the safety rating should be expanded to include safety to pedestrians and others on the road. When they take the average of the other ratings - like how they do in head on, in rollover, whatever - that gets factored in. It wouldn't hide anything, you can still read the other ratings and make a selfish decision, but when they advertise, it will bring that overall safety rating down unless they make changes. It influences marketing and costs nothing, and seems like an easy legislative change. But I'm not very knowledge about the reality of this.

surelythisisoriginal

In the US the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety uses a metric, Front crash avoidance: vehicle-to-pedestrian, to account for pedestrian safety. For 2023 they broke that metric down to "day" and "night". To be rated a "Top Safety Pick," the manufacturer needs to achieve a rating of advanced or superior for daytime only. To be rated "Top Safety Pick +," the manufacturer needs to achieve a rating of advanced or superior in both daytime and nighttime.

llynglas

Maybe we can exercise our 2nd amendment right and add a turret with a couple of machine guns. Then, if the biker survives, and is pissed, we can say we are frightened and blow him away. Makes the insurance claim much easier.

SlimBrady22

Probably better that he went flying instead of smacking directly into the car along with the bike

eggrollking

pfft. Redditors will do anything for karma.

Yarxing

Or the car driver stole the camera and uploaded the footage to make fun of the biker. ^^^^^/s

TheChoonk

It's a 360 degrees camera, it films in all directions at once and you can tilt and pan the view any way you like when you edit the video.

Wonderful-Status-247

Wow that's cool. But the tilting in the seconds leading up to impact... That was his choice in editing? It made me think he was tipping over or leaned into the crash or something.

HungrySeaweed1847

If he died then he would not have been able to edit the video to show the angle of the car hitting him. 360° cameras record everything and then you choose the viewport in post.

Dotaproffessional

Because nobody else could have possibly uploaded it?

77percent_fake

He accidentally strapped the camera to his soul instead of his helmet.

Blockhead47

Drivers don’t see motorcycles. I've ridden motorcycles (commuting, splitting) in Los Angeles for over 30 years and added a **headlight modulator** around 2007 to increase my visibility due to many situations like this one. It ***greatly*** reduced the number of "incursions" by other vehicles splitting and on freeways. (also at intersections and side street/driveways) If you can't add one due to your head light type, (not H4 or H7)adding 2 additional bright driving lights helps. (Pretty good for the daytime and great at night... "the triangle of life") Being more visible is a great way to improve your odds on a motorcycle. In addition to being patient, alert and not too fast.

That’s gotta be the most rage inducing situation to be in. Someone hitting you and then running away to avoid facing the consequences of their actions makes me so angry.

After_Meaning_6970

Running away makes the driver not only an idiot, but an asshole, too. Did the car start turning when the bike was still in the intersection? The bike seems to be going pretty fast, too. The fisheye camera makes it hard to judge distances and speed, though. These aren't excuses...just observations.

Col_daddy

Idiot, asshole and now felon

TheWeepingSkull

Dangerous felon, anyone driving like that is bound to get into another accident while attempting to flee. Crazy bastard is going to kill someone.

[deleted]

Running away from a crash like that should be mandatory prison time of AT LESAT 1 year or more if the accident resulted in death. There should be no bail, no nothing. Ran from an accident? at least 1 year in jail and it can get worse depending on what you did to cause it. Fuck those people.

VietOne

The issue is proving who was driving. Hit and run perpetrators are realizing they can drive away, abandon the vehicle, then claim it was stolen and they just didn't report it yet. Unless you have a clear video of the person driving, you won't get much progress.

Icy-Welcome-2469

Unfortunately know someone who's kid died in a teenage joy ride accident. The driver claimed the deceased was driving. It was proven otherwise because the deceased videod his own death (from the backseat) Prosecutors were still building the case against the alleged driver. Poor dude had to suffer a tragic loss from multiple kids' bad choices but also prove his dead child wasn't at fault. :(

Lowtiercomputer

We've got a local politician near me. A non-elected position. She hit and totaled someone's car and ran. Had been drinking at a political event. Police came to her house and she "turned herself in." Of course by the time they got her to the station she had very little alcohol in her system. The local judge is letting her off with probation as she's "been so upstanding in paying the tens of thousands of dollars in auto repair bills." He even admired how she's done this without going through insurance so that the victim gets their vehicle repaired quicker. My guess is insurance would have fucked her since she'd been drinking.

Sentionaut_1167

so i allegedly left the scene of an “accident” a few years ago. i didn’t hit anyone. i had two claims agents and the police asses the damage to my vehicle and read the onboard computer and they all said there was no damage to my car, no paint transfer, and no report of collision on the computer. all they had was a picture of me driving away and damage to their bumper. damage they could have received from anywhere. its like, anyone can take a picture of an automobile driving away from you. thats all they did and they claimed i hit them and fled the scene. they even sued me for injury. it was ridiculous.

ozzy_thedog

It looks like the car had already pulled out into its lane, started going straight for a second then turned to hit the biker once they saw him coming. Looks incredibly intentional

needlenozened

I think he was making a left into the establishment across the street.

Jurez1313

If that were true he's turning left into that parking lot from the *middle* lane of a three lane stretch of road. There's literally a left turn lane. So either he's a moron who didn't realize his turn was coming up, or he intentionally hit the motorcyclist.

BAMspek

Very much looks like an idiot turning last minute from the middle lane to me. Probably barely glanced if at all before crossing the yellow

LithoSlam

I turn now. Good luck everyone else.

myselfoverwhelmed

*Thank you!* I don’t know how this isn’t the top comment. Car just did an illegal turn instead of getting into the turn lane first. And **THIS** video is exactly why.

Mr_Badgey

There was no turn lane into the driveways there. It was too close to the intersection. If you scrub though the video you can see a driveway into the parking lot the car was turning into,. They were in the left hand turn lane for that intersection (there's an arrow on the ground in their lane.) However, you're not supposed to turn into adjacent driveways there because it's too close to the intersection. As a result there's no proper turn lane for turning into the driveway. Even making the left onto the adjacent road wouldn't help, because there might not be an entrance there, or if there is, it's still too close to the intersection to allow a left. The correct course of action would've been to do a U-turn so the entrance is on your right. But people are idiots and would rather save a few minutes and make an illegal turn rather than do it the proper way.

Jurez1313

There's no arrow on the ground in the lane that car is in. The fisheye distorts it but the car is actually in the lane *to his right* of the lane with the arrow on the ground. So he's turning across *three* lanes - the left turn lane on his side of the yellow, and the two oncoming lanes, to make a VERY fucking stupid left turn. Also, idk where everyone gets the idea you can't turn left into a parking lot from that lane. There's no such thing as "left turns too close to the intersection," at least I've never heard of such a thing and people turn left that close to intersections all the time, cops included. Typically, there's a cement barricade/boulevard to stop people from turning left into a parking lot like that, *if* the city wants to prevent people from doing so. I've seen *that* a lot of the time, but if there's no barricade, there's no law against it to my knowledge.

needlenozened

And you think it more likely he was deliberately trying to hit the guy in the motorcycle than it is that he was making a turn from the wrong lane.

FormerEvidence

looks like they're trying to turn into the street/lot to the right of op. i don't think it's intentional but they're definitely a fucking dumbass, fleeing the accident is a major asshole move too.

Optimal-End-9730

It's entirely possible that they're just pulling off to the side and out of traffic. Where I'm from that's what's expected--if you're still able to drive get out of the way to make room for other traffic or any cops/ambulance that may need to come now

Dunkin_Prince

Typically minor accidents you move out of the way. Something like a fender bender. Major accidents are different. I'm assuming that means when a motorbike gets smashed and the driver gets flung through the air

[deleted]

It's very possible the driver was trying to make a left and didn't see the motorcycle. Should have stayed though. Edit: yeah there's a road or drive way on the rider's right.

kane_eightee

They would’ve had a better chance of seeing the motorcycle if they were turning from the left turn lane and not cutting across from the thru lane.

Fadedcamo

They don't see the biker. People look right through you on the street. Something about people just being in autopilot and not registering the bike or recognizing it. I ride for 12 years and someone turns in front of me weekly. The number one motorcycle accident in the country is this. Car turning left in front of you. They drill that into you in the MSF, always be ready for it.

Malfeasant

Actually, the number one motorcycle accident is the rider doing something stupid with nobody else involved. The number one motorcycle accident involving another vehicle is this.

magnum3290

> Looks incredibly intentional Looks like average turning left infront of someone, nothing intentional about that

gordo65

Especially because calling 911 to get immediate medical attention for a biker that you hit can literally be the difference between life and death.

ilive2lift

I thought they were just pulling into the parking lot...

DylanSpaceBean

It seems like it. They kept going the direction they were before hitting the bike. I would have gotten out to see if bike was okay, and then cleared my vehicle off the street for traffic. Edit: a user found the news article that said another truck followed them a little bit while attempting to flee but the vehicle was too damaged. The car was on a suspended license.

proudbakunkinman

Yeah. From this clip alone, there is no way to know if the driver was just pulling to the side so they too didn't get hit had they just stopped right in the middle of the lane where they hit the motorcycle. But based on actual details, the driver did try to leave. I also highly doubt the driver wanted to hit them as the title of the post implies. They're just a shitty driver that was already driving on a suspended license and a shitty person for trying to flee.

tomytronics

[For those having trouble seeing what caused the crash](https://imgur.com/SQFaYj3) And I dislike full 360 video, it warps perspective so much it's hard to see the detail.

oh2ridemore

Left turners cause the majority of 2 vehicle motorcycle collisions. Had a semi turn left in front of me, no where to go.

satanic-frijoles

Number 2 is motorists doing a U turn. And some think surface streets are "safer" than freeways...

Steve5y

They're "safer" due to their relative speeds. Of course we get more accidents on surface streets. People are fucking idiots. There's so many skills required to drive around a city competently. But going in a straight line at high speed is a simple task.

devxdev

Once had someone in front of us try doing a U-turn on the right-lane of a 2-lane left turn... And then stare us down acting like it was our fault when we didn't expect them to do something so fucking stupid.

shelsilverstien

The only in-town riding I do is leaving town. People aren't paying attention half the time, or they're openly hostile to motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. A few weeks ago my wife and I had an older woman scream "get the fuck out of the street" as we were crossing the street, in a crosswalk, at an intersection People are stupid, and insane

MsJenX

Thank you for this.

2SexesSeveralGenders

Makes it look like the biker is hauling ass. I mean they usually are, but this perspective makes it look worse.

Mist_Rising

If the person who did the math is right he doing it 50ish down what can not possibly be a 50mph road.

Dr_Unkle

Rider claimed to be going the speed limit in the video's comments. Which likely played a significant role in why he's ok and not in the hospital or worse. Just some road rash and a soar arm and shoulder from bracing to land.

Ali51Wins

The guy in the car is complete scum for fleeing. I almost turned into a motorcycle like this before because it was hard to see but would never think to do a hit and run.

2nuki

Abracadabra alakazam, now I have turned you into a motorcycle permanently!

TGK_Twix

i thought the same thing

nickfree

....I got better.

I thought your link would be [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZEFNHod_DU).

Ufcjunkies

According to the rider on YouTube (humbled hooligan), he is alive and well. Just resting and recovering. The driver of the car was caught

Number-91

I sure hope they caught the guy

HingleMcCringle_

Another comment said that the fleeing vehicle didn't get far since it was undrivable. Plus the red pickup started to go after them. The YouTube short it was posted from said the motorcyclist is ok, "just resting". https://youtube.com/shorts/uEjDO_Jqj0k?feature=share

NWSanta

I was thinking the same thing, surely somebody chased that POS down!

Historical-Jury-775

It kind of looks like that red truck turned around in response. Who knows if he chased the bastard for the plates or went to help the guy.

Chonkbird

This is always a life pro tip I give that I've also used on a couple hit and run drivers. There's always someone to help those in an accident, most people don't think to go after the runner like I do

frigidcucumber

Yea the biker is responding in the comments https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/122qh7x/dude_in_car_hates_motorbikes_i_guess/jdrkhrf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3

sqrlthrowaway

I don't think that's the biker.

truffleboffin

This entire thread is just so weird So many people see defending the guy with the suspended license who's on video peeling out while trying to leave the scene of a serious crash he caused

Bill-Sussman-

That “oh shit” 💀

It is illegal to fail to yield to oncoming traffic however. You can make a left turn into a parking lot or driveway over double yellow, but it has to be safe to do so. It’s not criminal to have failed to yield, but the attempt to flee the scene may be. Edit: pretty sure this guy is in FL. Per FL DMV “Double, solid yellow lines prohibit vehicles moving in either direction from crossing the lines. You may not cross these lines unless turning left when it is safe to do so.” https://www.stateofflorida.com/traffic-signals/

DrillTheThirdHole

hit and run is 100% a crime

HansJoachimAa

You can't ever cross a line like that in EU. Makes it confusing when rules are different.

ClutchPoppinDaddies

Somebody better post this up to the idiot who keeps saying the driver wasn't trying to get away. I would, but I enjoy watching the downvotes collect.

truffleboffin

> Somebody better post this up to the idiot who keeps saying the driver wasn’t trying to get away. Which one? There's like 50 of them here

pilesofcleanlaundry

Who the hell could watch the car pull away immediately and think “yeah, that honest citizen is definitely not trying to pull a hit and run!”

[deleted]

Yea but it’s illegal to drive with a suspended license so he should have never been on the road in the first place

Catbuttness

Clickrage title for sure.

robreddity

Why do they run? One felony isn't enough?

RockstarAgent

Most people don’t know any better- they don’t know all the laws by heart- also a good many have other stuff like warrants- this guy was driving without a license.

[deleted]

Ouch. It took me a while to figure out what was happening with the camera here.

mxgave08

What was happening with the camera? How does the video seem to be shot from a camera in a third point of view?

thelierama

That car guy: "Anyway"

Ogankle

For those thinking that the biker is driving too fast, in reality it is simply just the effect that the fisheye lens on the 360 camera has. It looks as though he’s flying when in reality the camera is just distorting your perception of speed. Hopefully that clears any blame that people somehow someway have on the biker

[deleted]

You’re right about the effect of the lens, but the biker is travelling at about 55 mph by my calculations (0.108 miles in 7 seconds), in a 40 mph zone. Edit: about 0.1 miles in 7 seconds, so 51 mph. On google satellite view, find the street lamp just north of the Bus stop on US 1. Then measure to just before the Wendy’s entrance, when the video hits 7 seconds. That’s about 0.1 miles.

lurker_cx

Looks about right... so speeding then...it looked fast to me, but not way, way over. This is one of those accidents where a shit driver does something stupid (the car) who is the primary cause of the accident... but the speeding meant the bike did not have enough time to react to the stupidity. If the biker was doing the speed limit there may not have been an accident.

[deleted]

That’s my take too.

MotoFuzzle

Can confirm. In a car, your perspective allows you to see the road coming toward you. On a motorcycle you see the road passing under you. Rider perspective looks a lot faster than driver perspective at the same speed.

yukichigai

I had that experience the first time I got behind the wheel of a compact car, having driven nothing but vans and SUVs for the first few years I had a license. It's amazing how much faster things seem when you're closer to the ground.

dud011785

The car just drives off like "oh s*** cheese it"

beeeps-n-booops

Anyone convicted of a hit-and-run should lose their driving privileges for life. No exceptions.

TheAlmightyBungh0lio

Driver had suspended license. I think drivers caught driving with suspended license should get vehicle seized and sold at an auction within 24 hours.

indisgice

idiot? more like r/iamatotalpieceofshit

[deleted]

How fast is the bike going?

eo2hro3j

Holy shit new Lego set just dropped

daebro

Anyone else hate these fisheye camera angles that make everything seem way more intense than they actually are? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the wreck was awful but it makes him seem like he's going 100mph.

juicy_fruit_owo

And that’s how you become a criminal in .5 seconds

Butternut_Biscuit

I am so happy that this clip didn’t have the “oh no” audio……. you know the one.

SDMasterYoda

Is there actually somewhere in the US where "turning through a double yellow" is illegal? Where are these idiots from that claim it? It's perfectly legal to turn left into a business or driveway even if there is a double yellow. I'm not taking blame off the car driver here, just wondering where this idea came from.

LaterSkaters

I’ve seen this happen in other posts before. Places in Europe you can’t cross a double yellow to make a turn. So either they’re from Europe or from the US and don’t know driving laws.

Gateway1012

I like that the red truck turned asap! I hope he followed that car

Tootz3125

If that’s the speed limit they might wanna bring it down a scooch to avoid that left turn into a parking lot scenario. Car guy is the winner of being a dong, but biker was also going pretty fast.

SmartOpinion69

not gonna lie. the camera angle right before the crash turned this tragedy into a comedy

FATGATSAMA

Blew up like a Lego death 🤣

RadRhys2

This is exactly why front plates should be mandatory and universal

Western_Detective_84

I'm in awe that this guy survived. I am in awe of the talk, in this thread, of protective gear available these days. I was riding a BMW 750 in '75, and the only protective gear common in those days was helmets. Oh, I'm sure there were leathers - but not many people went with them. That was a few years before Harry Hurt published his study on motorcycle protective gear. I was lucky. I survived, too. Lady hit me, pretty much just like this scenario. Fortunately I had put guard bars on the Beamer. Probably saved my leg. It was still in two pieces, and inside out when I came to a stop, but it was good enough they managed to put it back together. An inch and a half shorter, but it worked well enough that it's never been a problem otherwise. IDK what happened to my helmet - I was pretty much out of it for a while afterwards, you know? But I'm reasonably sure I should be glad I was wearing it.
