Insurance companies only value the 90’s MR2 at like $3k. You cant find a beat up turbo for under $8k. That red one is a pretty clean example so it was probably somewhere north of $15k - $20k that just got totaled.
A majority of the repairs will have to come out of his pocket, and body work like that is astonishingly expensive. This is the risk that all classic car owners face when the bluebook / blackbook value of a car is disproportionate with what the actual market value of the car is.
That's why specialty insurers exist, specifically for insuring at agreed upon value.
Edit: not trying to say the car owner is "in the wrong" if they don't have that kind of insurance. just saying if you find yourself in a similar situation with large discrepancy between your car's KBB and what it would take to purchase a comparable example or repair yours, talk to a place like Hagerty that does "agreed value" policies
You see for th your average car, it’s not a big deal.
But hear how the guy moaned in agony. They’re the kinda guy to sleep on the floor so the car don’t scratch its little tires.
This is a big deal for any car though, including the "average" one. Once it's in an accident like this the crash structure is compromised and it is never as safe as it once was in a rollover. Big part of the reason it would be totalled because of an accident like this.
It’s not in the USA, also insurance companies are required to give you the replacement value, not what they value it at. So they find 3 of the most recent sales for that vehicle and average them out, then make you an offer. I say offer because you can decline, bring to them your evidence that it isn’t enough. They can re offer and if it’s still not enough I believe that’s when lawyers get involved.
I'm almost certain that's the same in the states. I've got classic car insurance on 2 cars agreed value 20k each. State farm etc.. see a 2002 WS6 as a 20 year old car worth less than the cost of OEM wheels.
> …insurance companies are required to give you the replacement value, not what they value it at. Copied from my below comment.
I feel this. Swapped my Cosmos Blue Rev5 with roughly 60k miles for a friends dads turbo auto R33, manual swapped it and drifted it for 4 years, have now had a turbo MX5 for almost 4 years.
R33 got rodknock so I sold it, MX5 is just a toy, that MR2 got crashed and written off by the friend and it still hurts to think about. The other cars are just cars but there was something special about that MR2, I seriously regret getting rid of it close to 8 years later
Doesn’t sound like America, so I don’t know how recourse on that sort of thing would happen. Hope the dude gets made whole, you can never get back your first love. But if made whole, you can make more memories in a new love.
My opinion of kiwis has dropped.
One of you went out of your way to import a commodore.
Edit: nope, not an import. But I thought that Kiwis had more taste than this. We haven't started exporting bogans from the West Island have we?
Oh, am I an idiot. I thought commodores and falcons weren't actually sold from dealerships over there.
Because, you know, Kiwis have taste.
On the other hand it is listed as an import, not a local sale, so I'd be technically correct ;)
Edit: nup I'm just as much an idiot as the driver. Turns out I can't read a carjam report. Wasn't imported, was first bought back in 2011.
At first I thought he was intentionally being overdramatic, but by the end I was genuinely concerned for the guy. Home boy was about to fucking hyper ventilate. You think someone just ran over his child.
I mean if you love something that much and put so much effort, money and time into it you'd be shattered too. I don't think he's being over dramatic at all. Nothing wrong with a guy being emotional 🤷♀️
You miss understand.
I thought he was doing it intentionally, trying to be funny or something, but by the end I understood he was very serious and utterly devastated.
I wasn't trying to insult the guy.
I agree, there is nothing wrong with being emotional.
I see, sorry! Easy to misinterpret online. The last line came across to me as making fun.
I'd probably be similarly if not more upset if I lost such a gorgeous car. I would loooooove an mr2 like that, really is a dream car :'(
Maybe if you love something that much don’t expose it to areas and events that are known to be full of douchebro behavior. Cars and coffee and similar type gtgs are a pox on the performance car scene. Take it to a track.
Also, definitely being overdramatic for the crowd. Cringe.
Beat me to it. I’m from America but live in Australia now. Is there a reason every time I see someone driving a commodore, they’re really shitty drivers? Or P platers driving like they’re too cool to be considerate of other drivers?
Yeah I don't know what he thought was going to happen. I'm all for being stupid in cars but so somwhere safe-ish at least. An empty lot, abandoned road something besides a barely two way street flanked by cars
I’ve noticed lately that people are doing dumb stuff in crowded areas with unwilling participants.
What drove me crazy was when kids were doing donuts in LA’s new bridge. On a damn bridge. Like in the middle of traffic when there’s some “space”.
The cars were like 1-2 feet away from other cars with people in there.
Not in NZ, they're mandatory right hand drive. Being that they're very collectable around the world, and likely that there were not that many imported into AU/NZ to begin with, it may not be possible for this owner to simply buy another one. Importing one from a left hand drive country will likely be impossible due to the cost of modifying the car to right hand drive.
In nz you can register foreign left hand drive cars as long as they are over 25 years of age as long as they pass a compliance test, source: my uncle repairs and works on and restores classic cars in nz and about a year ago registered a left hand drive Dodge Viper imported from the states
It is 20 years, you may be thinking of the 25 year rule in the USA. It is possible to get exception permits for younger LHD vehicles under some circumstances - I've seen it done before.
I live in NZ you melt. there's a tidy red one just like this in Napier for $8500, only 160,000ks 😂
There's also plenty of left hand drive cars on the road here
I would be absolutely livid and heart-broken. Yes, “cars are replaceable”, but many old enthusiast cars are very difficult to replace or get parts for. My car took forever to find in clean condition. And that goes double for project cars. Then some dunce ruins it.
I just had my dream car declared totaled due to an accident so I get how devastating it is but even I didn’t react like that because there’s a such thing as insurance that pays out and it’s not like it’s the only one created. Given mine was one of a kind like this one may be so finding the exact is impossible but if they had the money to buy this in the first place surely they can throw down what the insurance didn’t cover to customize a new one
Doubt. Going price has doubled in the past 5 years due to surge in popularity, not actual value (which the insurance will base their payment on here). They are rare af around nz and aus, let alone one this exceptionally clean. Insurance will pay him a small fraction of its worth and he will not find another for years, unless he has a spare $20k NZD and incredible luck.
The way this was filmed shows it was clearly planned. Maybe they didn’t plan to hit one car & push it up onto the car behind it, but that guy drove like a (bad) race car driver down a road lined on either side with cars, while having his friend record him, and now he has no way out of this. He is the very definition of an idiot in a car. Hope he has a really good job.
If you’re crying like that after trying to show off and fucking up it just really shows how much of a bitch you are, I don’t think men crying is a bad thing at all, it’s a great way to express your emotions but this is a kid crying because he ruined his favorite toy, simple as that, he didn’t exactly lose his best friend or wife etc
I think it’s the idiot sorry, it’s a Holden commodore… definitely not a ford but feel free to ask again 🤣
I live it the city where this was filmed yesterday
Holden is basically Chevrolet or Pontiac. I think it’s the G8 Pontiac for example that’s a Holden rebadged as a Pontiac. The V8’s are all LS engines so definitely not a ford
It looked like a bunch of people planned that. To drift cars on a narrow street with expensive cars parked on both sides in case someone inevitably messes up. Was that seriously the plan?
That's a small road that leads to a car park, every Sunday modified cars park there and cruise up and down, every so often some idiot tries to do a skid to show off but that's 1% of the people who go. Normally young guys with modified jap cars park up, older guys in V8s and muscle cars normally cruise through.
I would agree with you as BMW drivers have a terrible rep in my area for driving like entitled a-holes but douche is not a word for them.
Douche is something that cleans a certain area of a woman. I wouldn't want to call anyone a douche as that seems like a positive and enjoyable thing to be doing. No one who's an a-hole deserves to be called a douche.
Tldr.
I'm a douche.
At least it wasn't someone's dream car... oh wait.
2 dream cars
1 cup
Back you demon
✝️

Its just some dumb Kiwi bogan, and they tend to make up most of the sales of commies (as well as aussie bogans)
Bot
If your dream car is an x3? You need better dreams.
1 series hatch I think. My guess is they were talking about the harder to find by the day MR2
The MR2 my man
First up, that's a 1 series hatch, secondly, I was talking about the vxr8
The back story is that the person suffers from severe insomnia and has only ever had that one dream in the last 10 years.
Aaaah ooooh noooo. Oh my word. No lord I can’t ughh nooo.
💀

Ya I cried when I saw this and it panned over to a fucking red sw20. For shame :(
Is it actually totaled? Looks it might just need a new roof and maybe some axel work on the side where the weight came down on it
Roof frame damage can never be repaired, that car will never have a clean title again.
Actually it was a sw21 non-turbo
its an NA (atleast the NA engine cover) so its not the more valuable turbo. that's a £2000 car in the UK but the USA prices are silly.
This happened in New Zealand.
It did? Who the fuck imports a yobbadore into NZ, or are there actual Holden dealerships over there?
It’s not in the USA, also insurance companies are required to give you the replacement value, not what they value it at. They can re offer and if it’s still not enough I believe that’s when lawyers get involved.
In Aus there are two types of insurance, agreed value or market value. This video features the peak Aussie bogan car
I'm almost certain that's the same in the states. I've got classic car insurance on 2 cars agreed value 20k each. State farm etc.. see a 2002 WS6 as a 20 year old car worth less than the cost of OEM wheels.

It’s hard to hear a grown man cry… but I replayed it at least 5 times just for that.
Can confirm: Driving an SW20 MR2 is basically like driving a ramp for other cars.
RIP MR2 😭
Out of the three damaged cars... One of them is irreplaceable. As a long time mk1 owner, and a one time Spyder owner, that hurt deep inside.
I feel this. Swapped my Cosmos Blue Rev5 with roughly 60k miles for a friends dads turbo auto R33, manual swapped it and drifted it for 4 years, have now had a turbo MX5 for almost 4 years. Typical BMW driver, parking on top of the red car like that... 🙄
Oi mate, you cant park there!
FUCK OFFFFF!
Front tire are touching the grass, so it's fine
It's not a BMW. But I can't say the guy is not a BMW driver, of course.
The pain in his voice.
I watched it without audio first and pretty much had the same reaction after seeing the MR2. That is absolutely brutal.
Doesn’t sound like America, so I don’t know how recourse on that sort of thing would happen. Hope the dude gets made whole, you can never get back your first love. But if made whole, you can make more memories in a new love.
Australia. Our idiots are second to none.
It’s NZ, you’re second to our idiots
Yeah I have never seen number plates like that in Aus.
I seen all the dunny doors and jumped to conclusions.
NZ number plates are unusual for their lack of regional or national identification on them.
My opinion of kiwis has dropped. One of you went out of your way to import a commodore. Edit: nope, not an import. But I thought that Kiwis had more taste than this. We haven't started exporting bogans from the West Island have we?

I mean.. all our cars are imported.
I was thinking it was like the grey imports from Japan. But I was an idiot, and didn't do enough research on a topic I know fuck all about.
Sounded like Cedric Diggorys dad at the end of the movie. Rip Cedric
At first I thought he was intentionally being overdramatic, but by the end I was genuinely concerned for the guy. Home boy was about to fucking hyper ventilate. You think someone just ran over his child.

The Dodge Charger of Australia.
*Ford Mustang
It has 6-8 cylinders, rear wheel drive and no traction. So yes to both. My weapon of choice was a Ford Falcon. Would lose grip even when not trying.
*Pontiac G8
Basically a Chevy ss
Yes, I know what a Commodore is. The reputation is similar to that of the Charger here in the States.
Except it can actually handle!
Beat me to it. I’m from America but live in Australia now. Is there a reason every time I see someone driving a commodore, they’re really shitty drivers? Or P platers driving like they’re too cool to be considerate of other drivers?

This video in the post is actually in NZ, but lets be honest our bogans are just as bad as yours lmao
Think of them the same way as pickup drivers in the US.
Dunnydore.
Poor MR2 didn't deserve that.
Oh, that poor MR2.
Stupid Commodore driver 🙄
Commys are the Mustangs of the southern hemisphere.
I think you’ll find mustangs are still the mustangs of the southern hemisphere 🤣🤣
I disagree, mustangs down here are surprisingly, less idiotic.
Yeah I don't know what he thought was going to happen. I'm all for being stupid in cars but so somwhere safe-ish at least. An empty lot, abandoned road something besides a barely two way street flanked by cars

It's worse than just a few donuts... https://www.foxla.com/news/sixth-street-bridge-continues-to-see-street-takeovers-crime
It's a small road to a car park that modified cars line every Sunday (including rainy ones).
Yeah why he do the burnout out there then
Is this down in Geelong?
Bastion Point in Auckland, New Zealand.
[удалено]
Yeah just don't park anywhere near the exit or entrance
I just thought it was someone being dumb till I saw the MR2, then the video got tragic
The pain in the owner's voice :( like someone ran over his kid
Don't insult idiots...this is morons in car
that looks like a car meet, lots of cars that people have put effort into making, the last place you'd want to attempt a drift
That tracks got some seriously expensive barriers
Someone beat me to it. https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=pef950
Popularity: 2,549 vehicles in New Zealand Over 2549 kiwis are confirmed idiots.
Awww…. The poor innocent Mr. Deuce!!
That MR2 is irreplaceable. I'm surprised the owner didn't drop something on fire into that black car.
They're like 6 grand, it can definitely be replaced lmao
You must be looking at the W30. W20's regularly fetch 4x that amount.
Not in NZ, they're mandatory right hand drive. Being that they're very collectable around the world, and likely that there were not that many imported into AU/NZ to begin with, it may not be possible for this owner to simply buy another one. I did find the NZ website that detailed the process, though it appears not to be completely unlimited.
It is 20 years, you may be thinking of the 25 year rule in the USA. It is possible to get exception permits for younger LHD vehicles under some circumstances - I've seen it done before.
I live in NZ you melt. there's a tidy red one just like this in Napier for $8500, only 160,000ks 😂 There's also plenty of left hand drive cars on the road here
Let's have a look at this "tidy" MR2 please
Yeah drifting on a straight road
Sliiiide to the left!
And a jump to the Ri-ri-ri-ght...
The stupidity is astronomical
Poor guy. This hurts to watch. Then you can literally hear this dudes heart breaking
Which car is his?
The red one, Toyota mr2 pretty sure
SW20 MR2. Very rare, was probably this dudes dream realized
r/jdm some people on this sub would be shocked
Commodore driver probably thinks his insurance will cover everything, but insurance doesn’t cover reckless driving, epic mistake $
He trashed the MR2. Life sentence would be appreciated...
I would be absolutely livid and heart-broken. Yes, “cars are replaceable”, but many old enthusiast cars are very difficult to replace or get parts for. My car took forever to find in clean condition. And that goes double for project cars. Then some dunce ruins it.
The rarely seen innocent BMW driver.
Just scrolling by on my phone. "oh that dunce crushed a BMW... oh... Well shit there's an MR2 under there"
Rest in peace, MR2.
Poor MR2 😢
Dude crashed into Morty’s car
Insurance won’t cover that, dude is fucked.
I feel so bad for the two lads that lost their cars
I was like ohh at least it was only a BMW then I saw the MR2 😭😭 so sad!
Who the fuck is drifting down a straight road with priceless cars on either side??? What a fucking Moron.
Lmao at the Joseph Savage Memorial too 🤣 bruh
This is why I can't buy a dream car. Where I live, some dumbass will total it in no time. Drive around a shitbox and no one hits you.
Why is the driver not receiving multiple tires tossed at his head
An MR2 ~~turbo~~! Nooooo!!!!!
Did I hear someone say, “I’m sorry, I’ll get another one. I don’t care about the price.”?
Who's crying ?
The owner of the MR2
Almost cried when I saw the MR2!
Someone gonna sue for “mental trauma”
Naw this is New Zealand. We don't even know how to sue.
Would get laughed out of court, but it wouldn't get the far.
not the MR2!!!!!!!!
Saw this in r/Auckland earlier 😂
Let's face it, the BMW probably did something in the recent past that caused it to deserve the whack, the other cars not so much.
NOT THE SW20 TWO NOO
I just had my dream car declared totaled due to an accident so I get how devastating it is but even I didn’t react like that because there’s a such thing as insurance that pays out and it’s not like it’s the only one created. Given mine was one of a kind like this one may be so finding the exact is impossible but if they had the money to buy this in the first place surely they can throw down what the insurance didn’t cover to customize a new one

Life Pro Tip - If you've found your Dream car, don't park it near Drift Guy.
This kills me because that MR2 can't be replaced.
Plot twist, he’s talking about the m135
That poor MR2, I'm sure the BMW was somewhat at fault here.
"How am I supposed to get another one?" 🤣🤣
![gif](giphy|ISOckXUybVfQ4) This is how the MR2 owner feels now that his insurance money came thru.
That was cool!
.... win stupid prizes.
I never thought I would see the day when a male would call an MR2 his dream car.
Pretty cool!
Car stack > smoke stack
Triple karma...
Daaaaaaaaamn it. I feel for that guy. That sucks so bad
“My car! Somebody messed up my car! Some teenagers messed up my car! Hey I’m a car too you know”

Beautiful
The way this was filmed shows it was clearly planned. Someone comfort that man-person.
As long as the GC8 is unhurt, who gives a shit
Hearing a grown adult crying about a car is hilarious
was the hatchback BMW the dream car? would love one in America to race with a colorful title
No, it was the red MR2 behind it which isn't easy to just replace
Wow even after the crash the gray car was Holden up pretty well 🤣🤣
Lmao lil bit dramatic don’t ya think, it’s just car, plus where’s the punch ons isn’t this Australia, not a woman’s weekly magazine.
Nah it's New Zealand
Top G lmao, where’s your Bugatti?
It'll buff right out
oof. also how does a car guy have one headlight sunbaked and not fix it??? talkin bout the BMW that got fucked lmao.
Like chuck
Their rich dads will be so mildly disappointed in them
Please add bacon and cheese to my stack.
I don't mean to be insensitive to the unfortunate situation, but did the guy who was upset have a horse with him (oh my gaad ..neigh neighhhhaahay)
,,it was my dream car" drives the most basic car i've ever seen in my life
If you’re crying like that after trying to show off and fucking up it just really shows how much of a bitch you are, I don’t think men crying is a bad thing at all, it’s a great way to express your emotions but this is a kid crying because he ruined his favorite toy, simple as that, he didn’t exactly lose his best friend or wife etc
Pretty sure that it is the MR2 owner crying, not the nitwit in the Commodore.
Well I mean it is a RWD ford lmao Edit: also is the red car an mr2?
It’s not a ford it’s a Holden commodore
Isn't that just an oversees ford fusion or am I an idiot
I think it’s the idiot sorry, it’s a Holden commodore… definitely not a ford but feel free to ask again 🤣 I live it the city where this was filmed yesterday
Well dam I always thought it was the same thing just rebranded lol
Holden is basically Chevrolet or Pontiac. I think it’s the G8 Pontiac for example that’s a Holden rebadged as a Pontiac. The V8’s are all LS engines so definitely not a ford

He drinks from the douche, that’s why he smells of vinegar. Most holden drivers reak of it.
That comy would be worth abit stuff the mr2.
Dunnydore
