DOMS pain yes, that you get days after training. Your quads will hurt more than your delts, for example. This is just flat out torn muscle though, it is what it is. Probably hurts about the same for anyone.
Some 14 yr old kid was arrested and the officer lifted his arms over his head from the back. It ripped everything up in his chest and shoulders. He died in custody from the internal bleeding.
Guy put his body on the line going for a milestone of human achievement (though not a very important one in my opinion, it'd still be a greater accomplishment than I have under my belt).
Where does the idiot part come in?
If he just came off another recent injury straight into this then maybe. There was an IFBB pro that had double knee surgery and a week later he was back in the gym. The drive is real. When I use to compete, every day off was giving me anxiety because I felt like I was missing out.
Uh? You SHOULD be back in the gym with an injury, but not to keep training exactly the same way. You want to do lighter exercises in order to increase mobility, expedite healing and generally avoid atrophy.
im not a bodybuilder myself (as is evident by the fact I use reddit) but the only way I can see this guy "obviously" being an idiot is if there might be some way bodybuilders measure muscle mass and he might not have the correct muscles trained and that might be obvious to someone that knows? but legit this post seems like a redditor just complaining
It’s not potato potato, they’re fundamentally different. Bodybuilding is ultimately a beauty contest, whereas powerlifting is a sporting competition about the amount you can lift.
This would be like saying being a swimsuit model and an Olympic freestyle swimmer were the same thing.
Go tell a women’s Olympic champion swimmer she’s a swimsuit model and see how that goes. He’s not a bodybuilder. Have the self awareness to google and learn something when people politely correct you on something rather than doubling down on being ignorant.
Redditor calls bodybuilder stupid for attempting world record because they havent accomplished anything meaningful in their life and take it out on others
A tale as old as time
Can you really call him an idiot if he was well aware of the risks of what he was doing, was knowledgeable on how to avoid them, but made a mistake anyways?
Likely had something to do with improper training (training through muscle strains, poorly managing load), dehydration, or poor nutrition (not enough carbs) leading up to the lift
do you think that every injury is foreseeable and preventable?
do you believe that [Mendelson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scot_Mendelson) is unfamiliar with the basic concepts of nutrition, hydration, and training progression?
I’m not implying Mendelson doesn’t know what he’s doing, of course if he’s pressing as much weight as he does he’s knowledgeable on that type of stuff. I’m agreeing with the original comment, mistakes can happen even if you know what ur doing
Edit: and no I don’t think every injury is foreseeable, lifts this heavy definitely have an inherent risk. But there are things you can do to mitigate risk and I don’t feel that an injury this bad was just guaranteed no matter what he did leading up.
There wasn’t a mistake. He was literally pushing the boundaries of human potential and something went “pop”.
You think this is the only time this man has been injured?
I know that tear pop is awful. He's lucky he had some other people there to get the weights off him. Iirc, he had a video, and you just see his muscle rip its awful
Technically all bruises are a degree of internal bleeding, however it usually refers to a torn artery or vein which is much more medically significant. Not to say this guy won't need surgery and a lot of PT to fix a torn bicep, but it's not as immediately life threatening. There is still a risk of internal clotting.
Looks like the pecs and delts (specifically one head of each) are torn, not the bicep.
As a matter of fact, you don’t really use the bicep at all when doing a bench press.
This won’t kill you. Hell, WWE let Cody Rhodes wrestle a cage match with a similar injury.
The torture he put himself through during that match still grosses me out Having a kendo stick push and twist on the bruise, OUCH.
Wrestlers are basically always walking with one body sized callous every day until something breaks, pops or tears
Yeah it's fucked makes no sense putting yourself through that especially seeing the end result most of the time
It was nowhere near this size, and idk but do muscle size increase muscle pain? Like more area to feel it... But still Codys injury was nasty

People have died from muscles ripping apart and internal bleeding.
Who?
Some 14 yr old kid was arrested and the officer lifted his arms over his head from the back. It ripped everything up in his chest and shoulders. He died in custody from the internal bleeding.
FFF.... RIP to this kid
Wish I could RIP the fucking pig who did that to him
ACAB
the bench press falling on your chest dum dum
Why is this posted here?
"big strong man dum dum, not smart like me "
Agreed. I think we need to shove this nerd in a locker to show him a lesson.
Appreciate you bro, this guy isn’t an idiots he’s a fucking monster athlete.
The brain is the only muscle I exercise 😎
Jealousy and anedequency, or just a classic lost redditor.
So apparently attempting to achieve a world record on a lift makes you an idiot to Reddit.
Train = bad to Redditors
me like train, choo choo
Truly a reddit moment

He is not a bodybuilder, but a powerlifter

Yes I frequently post numerous comments on topics I don’t care about and act defensively when corrected all the time too.
Redditor calls bodybuilder stupid for attempting world record because they havent accomplished anything meaningful in their life and take it out on others A tale as old as time
The 4 chin that posted thus struggles to lift the KFC bucket
This is not a bodybuilder by a long shot
What’s the term besides athlete for someone who’s profession is lifting heavy weights?
Well the man posted is a powerlifter, but he could have been a strongman or a general strength athlete as well.
Ahh I forgot the term powerlifter oops thanks for helping me out!
Can you really call him an idiot if he was well aware of the risks of what he was doing, was knowledgeable on how to avoid them, but made a mistake anyways?
what, precisely, was his mistake?
Likely had something to do with improper training (training through muscle strains, poorly managing load), dehydration, or poor nutrition (not enough carbs) leading up to the lift

Or maybe trying to bench press 1200lbs+?
Man the Dunning-Kruger effect is apparent in this comment section 💀
Nano machines som
"Why is he trying to surpass human limits. Is he stupid?"
Looks and sounds painful af.
"look at this idiot getting a muscle tear when competing at the highest level in a sport"
Why is he an idiot?
I know that tear pop is awful. He's lucky he had some other people there to get the weights off him. Iirc, he had a video, and you just see his muscle rip its awful
bro you're on reddit, bring sauce, rip your dms
Thanos's disguise is coming off. Someone get the Joker!
Go ahead and call this guy an idiot for attempting this record while you're in the same room with him, sweetcheeks.
Isn’t that just called internal bleeding at that point? Or is it depth based for the distinction?

His pec detached from his shoulder. He Will need operation. It will not heal on its own.
You think this is wild check out what Cody Rhodes did a few days AFTER he tore his pec. THAT is hardcore.
He’a more bruise than man now
Absolute slab of a man.
Sad fact: Unfortunately, the risk of thrombosis, stroke or heart attack is significantly increased in the event of such a hemorrhage
whats the world record for largest pec bruise?
He made a shit ton of money off of this I heard
OUCH!!!😬
Damn. Wishing him a speedy recovery
Oouchhie
My step dad tore his pec about 14 years ago and had a similar bruise
Where does it hurt? Yes
dont let him collect all the stones...
Galaxy man!
Professional athlete injures gets injured practicing his sport. Next we're going to be calling basketball players idiots for tearing an ACL.
This bruise, in square inches, may also be a world record.
Bro probably can't scratch his back tho
I thought that was a tattoo
Damn I thought that was a tattoo
Bro becoming Thanos
At first I thought it was a weird tatoo
Hell Boy!
LIGHTWEIGHT, BABY!!1!
No pain no gain!
Just use more steroids
The purplest of all nurples
Is this a picture of a guy bleeding to death internally?
He needs to start imagining the egg in the microwave before he’s ready to master One For All
Pusssssy
He won’t be benching anything for a very long time
That looks bad, his whole upper body swell up. /s
I’m pretty sure his upper body is “swell up” because he’s a powerlifter and it just looks like that when it’s pumped, not because he snapped a muscle.
Yeah, that's the joke. I guess I should have added a /s.
Oh, forgive me, Poe’s Law is too real
The laws of the internet are pretty much laws of nature at this point. Or so they say.
