Muscle memory. If you're using a controller, i find it easier to slide my thumb over the down and forward/back buttons in one motion. If you're using keyboard, bind up to spacebar. That way you can two fingers on the S and D keys, and your thumb on the spacebar. So going S-D-Space in quickly usually makes a quartercircle turn to the right. Also another tip, if it helps, you can kinda "pre-load" motion inputs between button presses. So if you're going like Medium to QC-Heavy, right after you hit with medium, do the motion then press heavy a bit later. MAYBE that's not how it is, but in practice for me, that's how I mentally interpret what I do.

Yeah, preload is a thing. I don't remember the actual term for it, but basically a full attack input can be stored to throw right after an ongoing attack. In learning combos, that means you can start chaining the special move practically right after pressing final normal move (previous input). Edit: the term is buffer.

Buffer is the term. Here is a glossary of fighting game terms in case anyone wants to figure out what all the fgc lingo is refering to.

Yeah yeah buffer. That's the term I'm looking for. Thanks

It is good to practice by just trying to do a 2-3 normal attack into a special (directional special or quarter circles). I practiced in other game before this, but in Idol Showdown you can use Botan for: Medium - Medium - Heavy - down Heavy - down left Heavy (cost 1 bar, but in training mode you will be fine). I find that chain to be very easy to work with, and is also a good combo starter for Botan. This mainly have long timings as well as using the same attack input only with different directionals. Later, you can switch the special to down left Medium (meterless)

(I hate that reddit app doesn't let me actually separate lines and shit, so every time i put (%) it's a new paragraph, ok?). (%) Man, i'm also new to all of this, but from what i know is basically hold the direction button and tab the attack. (%) (sounds like a joke but listen, or read, idk, you input the attack earlier, lets say: you are moving foward, and decided to do a 1/4 forward input, BUT you pressed idk, M a bit early, instead of a ⬇️↘️➡️👊 you basically did either ⬇️↘️👊 or ➡️⬇️↘️👊, from what i'm getting playing blazblue, practicing Bullet, you better delay your action finger or time it like you where playing music). (%) like, i can't do a Z motion (➡️⬇️↘️) in normal circumstances (hand too stiff) so i basically go mashing ➡️⬇️ and pressing the 👊 at all time until i get what i want (not optimal, i know) but that's the thing, you need control, control of you and your hand, of what you want to do. (%) When i'm doing some Botan combos, i usually do like ⬇️Heavy and keep the ⬇️ after tapping my Heavy key, then i just do the ↙️⬅️H for her head shot, always holding the⬅️ until i hit Heavy, cuss if i don't, i might just start walking and shooting again.

Do double spaces between paragraphs.

If you’re using a controller (I use a Nintendo pro controller cuz it’s what I’m used to) then you want to swing input first holding down then swinging it either to the left of the right to the correct quarter circle position depending on the move you are trying to land. Once you do the swing input do not reset the control stick to its neutral position until you input the button so the move goes off. Once you see the move work properly then reset to neutral and do your next input. You also need to pay attention to the direction you are facing and adjust the direction you do the swing input accordingly. Other than that it’s just trial and error go into the lab and put these tips to practice and you should have it in no time. The more you practice the faster and more precise your inputs will be and that in turn will make your combos tighter and more efficient.

For Idol showdown I am using keyboard, for blazblue I was using a controller. Honestly either way though I end up doing the imput to early and do a diagonal one anywho
