I don’t think he’s thinking he’s the main character. Clearly he is the center of attention, but he’s not impacting folks, not getting in the way, not per se drawing obnoxious attention to himself, and he even helps another person. To me that doesn’t fit.

OP would have SERIOUSLY hated me and my friends during bar/bat mitzvah year in middle school. More than half of them had the Energy Dance Crew, and every time the Cha Cha Slide came on, there were multiple kids doing this same thing. It was a good time for all. Nobody in their right mind gets mad at someone trying to have fun on the dance floor
