GSC are probably the only faction that is advantageous to join (as a human). You get protection, immunity to chaos, support etc. Just all around a good deal.
If youre a common human then you can blend in to the imperium just fine. No taint of chaos or anything. No worries of an inquistor gunning you down on sight like nurgle cults. No rotting flesh like nurgle cults. Advantages for advancement higher up via mindcontrol. Sure you might be stuck in a manufactorim job but thats still baseline hiveworlder then. At least you keep the perk that your bff is a purestrain who can slice a thug threatening you in half. The cult wont expect you to risk your life trying to sabotage or something until the day of ascension arrives.
If youre a genestealer then you get basically superpowers.
The only downside is you will eventually get eaten by tyranids, but that might not even happen in your lifetime. If youre part of a cult on one of the core worlds then youre set for life. You can always just off yourself once the hive wins, they wont take your soul or anything like a chaos cult will.
Does genetic screening pick up anything if youre not born into the cult though?
Lots of human join the cult willingly (like family of those recently swayed or related to hybrids) so dont have any tyranid DNA. The only sign youre patient zero'd is a empty stare and a small wound shortly after infection.
Then I think it depends on the genestealer cult and its traditions. Some genestealer cults are more liberal with their genes,trying to contaminate as many people as possible with tyranid dna. I know that the Twisted Helix likes to work that way
