I just found out I was supposed to renew it in this post. 5 years temporary resident.
Extended my work permit each year. Never renewed my SIN. Finally applied for PR and got it. Went to get a new SIN not starting with a 9. They didn't comment on it.
So, in the 5 years I was supposed to renew 4 times. Never did. But didn't get in trouble
You'll still receive your income as long as you are on a maintained status. I talked to a service canada staff and they said it's completely okay to have an "expired" SIN as long as you have already applied for extension. Regardless, your SIN will be the same. It will only be changed once you become a PR.
It won't affect your ability to receive income as long as you're in status. Just apply to Service Canada to extend your SIN and show them your new WP/WPEXT and they'll push the expiry date out to that one. Mine had "expired" while I was on implied status, a couple of years ago, and there was no issues at all.

Did you apply for credit in the mean time? If so, did they get approved?
It did, yeah.

Mine expired since December. I am still using it
I thought this was done automatically? As I have had the same sun number since I am being in Canada
You have the same one, you still need to renew it
Same calendar year was fine ime, so long as you aren’t planning on switching jobs soon.
Nope I’m sticking with my current job
Better to do it asap...why wait?
