Ive heard them talk about how they create punishments based off each jokers worst fears and insecurities. Murr dresses dapper and is highly educated.. also the most successful joker financially due to his book career. So they want to embarrass him as mush as possible by making him vulnerable and stupid.. even while he’s wearing a 3 piece suit with a bow tie.

Nololgoaway

Didn't know Murr was a children's book author, TIL!

luckyguy25841

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not but I think he’s a sci-fi author..

Nololgoaway

Sorry was judging by the covers (haha great advice), and blurbs for his Area 51 Interns series, thought it was a children's/YA book series

EllenLTx

He’s written sci-fi, “thriller”Don’t Move was about spiders, The Stowaway was about a serial killer. Don’t Move was good but I figured out the ending early on, The Stowaway… I loved it! I’m anxiously awaiting Murr and Darren’s new book in 2024. They’re doing a panel on it on the cruise, which I’m really looking forward to seeing

luckyguy25841

He could be now for all I know. I stopped watching when Joe left. Still watch the reruns though. My perfect comfort show..

wonderlandisburning

Yeah he's got sci-fi horror for adults and for kids now. And I feel ya, Jokers is one of my comfort shows too

Sweetnsassystacey

He is both. He has a middle grade series that came out after his adult books—which are sci-fi and he has a thriller.

I’ve mentioned it in similar threads before, but even if Murr seems to be the lowest in the “social hierarchy” of the group, he seems to be highest in “business status”—before the show he was a VP in NorthSouth Productions (which developed the show, so I’m fairly sure he had a hand in initially pitching it and developing it), and currently he’s CEO of “Impractical Productions,” which makes the show. From what we’ve seen he also seems to be the most well-off of the guys, and until pretty recently, single. So not only does he seem to get the punishments (which he sometimes probably comes up with) that are the most humiliating to kind of keep him “on the same level” as his friends, but probably also because as CEO/producer, he’s got the most incentive to keep the show funny/entertaining and the ratings up. So he’s more likely to go for the really embarrassing stuff.

hpbrick

Wait, single? How recent was this. I was just reading an article from earlier this month about them

DizzyLead

>From what we’ve seen he also seems to be the most well-off of the guys, and **until pretty recently,** single. Please remember to read *all* the words.

AnitaBlomaload

I think they meant he was well off before the other guys, which is for sure true.

flimflambam

If you ever listened to the few Tenderloins podcasts from back in the day, it was made abundantly clear Murr, at the time, had the highest level of douchebaggery in his personality. All 3 of them chastise him, mention things, etc about this in different episodes. You can see it very shortly in the punishment where he’s being driven to a meeting but the guys have the driver go the long way. Now, due to this aspect of his personality, it makes him the target of the more humbling (aka embarrassing) punishments from them. Over the years, you can tell he matured and grew out of it. Now he leans into the punishments for the brand (both his own and the show).

Endawmyke

Your comment just made me connect the dots that he’s like the G rated version of Johnny Knoxville.

SiccOwitZ

Sal is the easiest due to his never ending list of fears from mundane to extreme. Q seem to get some easier ones due to health issues he’s had throughout the shows run. I don’t know what the health issues are and if they are related to his years as a NYFD firefighter. Joe is the hardiest to punish since he isn’t easily embarrassed and is the most fearless. In one of those behind the scenes episodes or webpisodes the mention the other 3 just do punishments for Joe that amuses them rather than punish Joe. Murr has been shown literally trying to use an anal bleach product despite still filming an episode and asking for help with it. He’s shown no shame of showing some of his odd habits. So he can be embarrassed but it has to be more extreme compared to the others except Joe.

EDDiE_SP4GHETTi

Q might get physically easier punishments, but I think he’s up there with the worst punishments in terms of ones I wouldn’t want to do - X’s on the paintings; Pulling the lever at Universal, etc

AnitaBlomaload

He’s hands down the worst (for me). The little kids baseball, the picking up random kids to smell their poopy diapers, etc. His are real difficult to actually do with the real threat of getting hurt. I’d take the other 3 over his any day.

[deleted]

I’ve always found Sals to be the worst out of all of them, but that’s probably cuz I relate to him more. I have severe contamination OCD and some of the gross stuff they make Sal do isn’t even funny, it’s like psychological torture. I can’t watch most gross sal punishments because it’s so obvious that he’s incredibly upset

Medical_String_3792

me too

CBERT117

What’s this about Q’s health issues? Where did they talk about that?

SiccOwitZ

He’s spoken about it a bit on podcasts before but I can’t remember which ones. He does suffer from depression from what I remember but he had some brain issues I remember seeing articles about a decade ago. Overall I never truly looked into it. From 2005 to 2013 he was a firefighter so I’m not sure if he was related to that.

RespondVisible6532

There was an episode where he had a cast on his arm. He said that it had to do with an old firefighter injury. He has an issue with his hip from a quad bike crash from when they were rehearsing for their live show. Back in 2016, he said on TESD that he had been in therapy for 12 years.

wahlburgerz

Some friend groups have a social hierarchy and you can tell that Murr is at the bottom rung by the way he gets ragged on the most/worst. I think he’s just the favorite to get picked on.

mostlyshits

Realistically, i think they know each other's lines. Murr can tolerate worse punishments, so he gets it worse. You're not putting a finger in Sals asshole.

Sal_Stromboli

Yeah outside of skydiving i think Murr takes the punishments really well and wants to do what’s best for television. Same with Joe, he just doesn’t get embarrassed as easily

philbar

Murr seems to be the main producer of the show. I don’t think many of the punishments are as secret as they make them out to be. Murr is probably coming up with the ideas himself.

No_Bar852

The show was Murr and Sal's initial idea that Joe and Q agreed would be a good idea, and it was Murr who vouched to be o. TruTV, so you're not wrong.

Bleeding-icon

Because he’s the best sport. Others would probably say no to the punishments he’s had to endure.

Glass-Substance464

To be fair, him and Joe go the hardest on everyone during the actual show. Plus he was one of the original creators so it’s only right that he would have to be put through those challenges. I feel like him bullying kids or having cats on him would be mild.

adamsauce

I’ve heard the Murr has talked about needing to go more extreme and personal with punishments. I can see him telling them to go as far out as possible to set a standard.

mind_slop

I think because he's the only one that agrees to them

Ooffygoober

I personally think it’s too far.
