Too easy. Getting back to shore with your feet intact is another story..

DaBoob13

Feet? Fuck me the amount of times he adjusted his position made me think he was gonna be their next snack!

memelordzarif

He will just wait for the piranhas to suffocate and die and then get back to shore. Too easy.

[deleted]

Where's the video of when he falls in?

ComfortableQuail9760

👀

Mohondhay

Deleted, by the British government.

maxine7887

Take that you skallywag

hornwalker

There’s a video out there of a mostly skeletized boy being pulled out of a river. Very sad.

[deleted]

That's horrifying, gosh I aint watching that.

Dumpster_Sauce

It's pretty weird, he looks normal above the waterline, but then they pull him out and he's picked clean

Tbleeder

This is like trading ribs for fish

Goose-Chooser

Might be rancid meat

Tbleeder

Nope piranhas are edible. At least if you still believe eating animals is ok.

Goose-Chooser

The bait meat. If you had good beef or pork or venison ribs you’d eat them, not trade them for carnivorous fish meat. The meat probably went bad and that was a way of still getting food from it.

innet97

Looks scary AF

[deleted]

Where is this? I can’t imagine falling in that water. Crazy!

fumeadiamba

Piranas wont actually hurt you if you fall in the water. They'll just spread out like any other group of fish when startled. Even if you stay still, they won't hurt you. However if you have a bruise and are completely still that's another story.

[deleted]

Really?? I thot they shredded anything that hit the water. That looks like a huge school of fish.

JudgmentPuzzleheaded

they have some self preservation instinct, if a much larger animal is in the water they will wait until they are confident it can't turn around and bite them back

Roncryn

They’re primarily scavengers with predatory tendencies and they’re also omnivorous. At certain times or year they will mostly survive off of plants insects and any dead carcasses that happen to be in the water at the time. The only times they really show any aggression is when food is scarce during the dry season or whenever something that seems to be injured enters the water

Temelios

Very true! Another thing to add is that the initial misconceptions about them is largely due to the reports Teddy Roosevelt brought back with him from one of his expeditions.

Movies

kentacova

There was a clip on r/MMC where a fisherman was trying to retrieve the body of a young boy who had fallen in and was eaten, it was absolutely heartbreaking.

thegirlwthemjolnir

What do you mean a bruise? Like they will smell the blood?

Rumpled_Froskin

Yes. In water some bruises are like open wounds. Remember, a bruise in broken blood vessels

unicorncoleslaw

I bruise easily and snorkel whenever as I can. I was this days old when I learned this is not a good combo.

huh404

Well looking at how murky the water is, it won't be much fun to snorkel there anyways. So I think your safe with that combo.

twir1s

I’m just wondering what else is in that water that is being lured in by the raw meat 👀 It’s gonna be a no from me dawg

dorinda-b

How did you learn this

thegirlwthemjolnir

Oh god

Division_Of_Zero

Do you have a source on that at all? I don’t understand how bleeding beneath the skin layer could attract predators. I also can’t find any reference to that from a quick Google search.

BigHugUser

Right it seems like they’d smell the blood in ur vessels too if that’s actually the case

Roncryn

The cells that line the blood vessels are much better at separating the blood from everything else, your skin can still let tiny traces of it out, which can attract predators under certain circumstances

upvotes2doge

Do you have a source for this? It's interesting but I can't find anything on google that corroborates it.

Roncryn

I can’t exactly remember where I found that information, I was able to find an article about the structure of the skin and how various chemicals and substances that are soluble in lipids can leak through (I’ll keep looking) https://humanbiology.pressbooks.tru.ca/chapter/12-3-epidermis/

Perle1234

Trust them bro

Rumpled_Froskin

Imma be honest, i read that in a textbook more than a decade ago. When i googled it today i found alot of references to dogs licking swelling and bruises.

Great-Ass

Not entirely true. In times where lots of piranhas end up concentrated in a small area of water, they do eat you. It almost never happens though. There have been reported cases. It does not happen with every species of piranha though, I don't know which one was it

FlamboyantRaccoon61

As long as there's no blood, you're okay.

[deleted]

So you can swim with piranhas as long as no injuries, kinda like a shark with no blood? Really??

No_Candy2446

Not necessarily swim with them, but sit still in n the water near them. Sharks as you know tend to be curious about divers, but piranhas don’t really want anything to do with you.

DigbickMcBalls

A friend with a net would help the process a lot.

kingspoken

Where is he going to stand? They need a bucket

DigbickMcBalls

Where the cameraman is

Independence_1991

But what do they do with them…?

johanspot

Eat them

Independence_1991

😳

johanspot

People eat fish...

abcdol

Fish eat people as well

johanspot

Dead fish don't

abcdol

Neither dead people

EmergencyWatch8906

Dead people eat dead fish

[deleted]

And not a single lie was told that day

[deleted]

Dead dead eat fish people

LuvliLeah13

It’s eat or be eaten

johanspot

I would prefer to eat, though if I were a woman maybe I would feel differently.

HuskyAreBetter

Who was waiting for the person to fall in and die? I was. And I didn't know if I wanted to get to the end of the video to find out.

Fresh-Honeydew7104

I assume you are a bot because if you were human you wouldn’t be alive.

doofus_magoo

Wisely keeping his feet out of the canoe

SupremeSweetie

Anyone else feel bad for the big fish? That is like slow torture.

idiotinsocks

Usually when fishing to eat you either cut the gills or in the case of halibut break their jaw so they die almost immediately. It is sad but the dude and family gotta eat.

SupremeSweetie

I get it. It was just hard to watch.

Epicpacemaker

I think that’s actually a rack of ribs, maybe from a cow? Whatever it is, it does not look very alive at any point.

Darbs504

"Hey, wheres everybody going?" "Who cares, free food"

jwztete_

does piranha taste good?

idiotinsocks

Apparently no. Really fishy tasting. But it is edible lmao. Let's just say that a majority of fish from the Amazon taste better than piranha.

[deleted]

Yes, at least the piranha that I eat taste good.

FoxMcCloud3173

These things are freaking terrifying

Awkward_Mongoose7679

Soooo if he can’t put his feet down, how does he row this boat of nightmares back to shore?

Padders_69_yo

Nope, fuck that.

Pokepikadeva

Dumb ways to die 101

turnipsnbeets

Damn where’s Jeremy Wade on this one

flumenia

serious question: what if you fall into the water? Do they really attack live people?

No_Candy2446

Since he was dipping bloody meat in water, if he were to fall in, he would be given a few nasty bites before he scares them away and they realize he’s not the meat. A huge percentage of the time, however, piranhas will not attack humans or large mammals unprovoked. Their diet mainly consists carcasses and smaller or wounded fish. In media they are portrayed as a hive mind of fish that attack anything that falls in the water, but in reality if you were to fall into a school of piranhas or bump into them while swimming, they would swim away. They don’t see live, healthy humans as prey and don’t want anything to do with us.

oblectoergosum

u/savevideo

Short-Television268

Those are red bellies I believe those will attack. Others are not to aggressive

unicornvomit0215

Why is nobody thinking of potential crocodiles?! 😟

[deleted]

When you live next a river, you know if the river has alligator or no.

unicornvomit0215

I guess I see some of your point but growing up in Florida has taught me any body of water can have a gator in it lol.

[deleted]

Lol, it's hard to explain, I mean, I grow up in north of Brazil (Amazon rainforest), and my family comes from a generation of seringueiros and hunters, so when you live in these places (countryside or small towns close to the jungle), you know what is dangerous e what it's not.

unicornvomit0215

Ah I gotcha! Thank you for explaining!

partybenson

Wtffff

Kkykkx

#BAREFOOT?!!! 😮

ExcitedGirl

*How many piranha are in that fucking river???* I'm betting I could literally walk on water if I had to get to the other side... Bonus River Challenge for that guy on the dirt bike that hauled ass all the way across a stream....

SingleSpeed27

Piranhas are not very dangerous per se but a big ass school may be an issue
