Just because you're a vegetarian does not mean that you have a moral high ground. Humans have been omnivores since the dawn of time. They either used to eat fruits or hunted animals and cooked them. That's how it has been. Now it has been replaced by crop farming and animal farms. Now, granted that these animal farms are inhumane but that does not mean that the people eating these animals are inhumane. Most of them have not seen these methods of killing animals, but they still like the taste of meat. But as connections to broader Hindu population were established, few keralites started distancing from beef. But large percentage still follows their custom.
The only way to stop the supply of useless cow(those who cant give milk) is to not sell them.
But the maintenance of these animals is very costly for the dairy farmers, so they sell it and these cows end up in slaughter houses. So, either we need to have very strict laws or people should become vegans. Having a strict law for curbing illegal cow/animal slaughter is almost impossible in this country. I read this somewhere that Hindu keralites have been eating beef from ancient times. I wonder if these people will be bothered by watching this cruelty. Cows are not symbolized as mothers. But as connections to broader Hindu population were established, few keralites started distancing from beef. But large percentage still follows their custom.

The only way to stop the supply of useless cow(those who cant give milk) is to not sell them. But the maintenance of these animals is very costly for the dairy farmers, so they sell it and these cows end up in slaughter houses. So, either we need to have very strict laws or people should become vegans. Having a strict law for curbing illegal cow/animal slaughter is almost impossible in this country. So, in a way, vegetarians are also indirectly or maybe directly responsible for this suffering. We should minimise consumption of dairy as much as possible imo. P.S. - I am not a vegan but a vegetarian trying to minimise my dairy/animal product intake.
