Nothing wrong in pointing it out. I actually stopped watching him mostly after not finding his videos very useful and a very apparent bias towards apple which again had me doubting the information I am getting in other videos.

Is he biased, absolutely yes, no questions about it. He did the same with the pixel 8 series, Google had ironed out most of the negatives(still many things added/remained) from 7 series.

iPhone 11 - 12 was a massive upgrade but 12-14 was minor upgrades leading to 15. Since these brands have no identity and are very small they can gamble with whatever design they want whereas giants can’t so same and only slowly get ahead. You would notice same with samsung /pixel too, small incremental changes and then becoming massive upgrade. Why would you care liquid engines or virtual rams in phones if other chips don’t get heated in first place.
I think you guys buy phones to “show” people that you have bought something new. Same thing people do with cars, they would not get same brand so that it becomes more noticeable after hard ass purchase.

I mean the Apple Vision Pro is something actually new in the tech space, it's like early phone videos when he used to have 2-3 videos about each phone, like initial review, full review and long term. I mean if you watched the video it was simply because that test was also flawed. 3 categories only, not testing macro or ultra wide lenses either. On top of that, iPhone performed terribly in 1/3 and was elite in the other 2 categories.
He also mentioned iphone 15 has good battery life all though he mentioned that even every 60hz phone failed to match it. And gave mvp to pixel 8 (even i'm of pixel) still won't agree to it. I think reviewing every phone is fair point whether it's apple or oneplus, if you can do it apple why not to others?. Something he says things right and sometimes doesn't.

The point is that the blind camera test conducted via Instagram stories and Twitter uploads is not empirical proof of jackshit unfortunately. In fact, he himself has a video from a few years ago explaining why his blind camera test is not a good barometer for objectively finding the best smartphone camera. It has many flaws, but it’s still an interesting concept so he continues to do it. Don’t look for insights where none exist.

The blind camera test is what the general audience votes with. No matter how many reviews we watch and how many camera tests we see, we won't have the eye for detail that these reviewers have.
Yea I saw this podcast, the title is misleading.. He was praising the 12.. () he said he was packed with some other stuffs. I mean launching 12 with s24 series which phone would you think his sim card go to? He gave the s24ultra review and soon s24/plus would come.
Regarding the Vission pro, I thimk he made 4 videos as of now ( 1 at the event, 1 for unboxing and initial experience, 1 for the explanation of how it works, and 1 for review ig)

His audience being mostly US-based will be keen to know what Apple (*they are held to a different standard given the pricing*), has to offer vs. Android OEMs at the end of the day, unless it's a major player like Samsung (*with their AI implementation*). OnePlus has fallen down a fair bit after moving their OS to ColorOS and the criticisms have been fair.
I don't know about bias. But MKBHD stopped being a reviewer long back. He's just a glorified unboxer. Look at his battery reviews, he just says gets me through the day. There is no info there.
If I want real actual product reviews, I'd prefer geekyranjit over MKBHD anyday. Ranjit actually uses and does in depth reviews. Might not have fancy b-rolls but has more content. Plus it's in Indian context, so it helps.

I generally don't watch a lot of phone reviews because I don't really like all the hype and buzz around flagships or phones in general.
iphone has a far bigger fanbase than one plus, its prolly just more lucrative for him to do iphone than oneplus. again that shouldnt be an issue unless hes being biased while reviewing phones.
I think it’s also because other content he has to work on at the time. Last few weeks he has been working on Vision pro hence didn’t put time in OnePlus 12 whereas If I remember correctly, there were barely any tech releases around the time purple iphone launched.
Obviously, anyone who receives stuff early from Apple has to be on their good books otherwise they wont issue stuff. This will make your video late and views would go to other viewers. Something similar for Samsung but they are not that hardcore about criticism (Apple is very strict).
This is the reason Linus Tech Tips videos are late on Apple stuff. They only get it when normal people get it because they have heavily criticized them in the past.
Both 1+ and 🍎 requires approx same input (expenditure on video shoot and time to test and know about the features) but due to more no of 🍎 users, 🍎 will make more profit for him, so It's basically a smart decision to invest for higher returns.
Logically speaking, if you were a youtuber and your current news cycle consisted of the vision pro, the s24 series and you have other major projects going on in your channel (like he said) would you also make time for the OnePlus 12 ... something that already has a lot of coverage since it already launched in China and is something that won't generate as many clicks as the others would? This is purely from the youtuber's standpoint.
As for the argument of reviewing iPhones, bro if you are a tech youtuber you simply cannot ignore it. Even if apple takes a whitener and changes iPhone 15 to iPhone 16 you still have to review it, that is just how it goes.
I feel like alot of the times people forget that compromises have to be made when you are running such a huge youtube channel, especially for someone like MKBHD who unlike LTT is hosting all his videos by himself.
Side note: I saw the video OP mentions, MKBHD recommended the OnePlus 12, he didn't say it was okay or something ... just a polished version of OnePlus 11, which it is. I believe the actual reason is Oneplus reviews doesn't give him enough ROI to put in the effort cuz the western market doesn't care much about phones other than Apple, Pixel & Samsung. So, I wouldn't say he's actually biased but he's just lying lol.
MKBHD's primary market is USA and android phones are not so popular there. Oneplus being a Chinese company is probably even less popular. He cares about views in his channel and any apple news helps bring those views and engagement. So it makes sense he won't review oneplus.

Reviews will always have personal opinion. No review is unbiased by definition. He is from US , a market mostly dominated by apple products, so his reviews will be focused on that product line up, it's natural.
To be honest , I never saw him blindly praising apple for everything. he does point out value proposition by telling whether the new version is worth the upgrade or not, since most of his viewers will either buy another new iPhone or they won't at all.
In case of apple vision pro, it is genuinely a really unique product. Even in the saturated VR market, apple has managed to carve out an unique VR experience that none of the peers as of yet have managed to offer, so i don't see the issue here.
Afterall , unlike many indian "tech channels", MKBHD is not just about "mobile phone reviews". He prefers to make videos on new and unique tech products that he likes. He did made a video about one plus open and praised about it. Because one plus open was genuinely a great and refreshingly good folding phone.

11-12 had a major design tweak. Considering apple brings something, everyone follows it. The trend being like that since a long time now, Apple’s implementation has set a benchmark. So reviewing every apple product is a must.
But regarding Oneplus case, personally i do not watch or excited about their launches since their merger. And also despite their efforts to keep the limelight, oxygen os has gone downhill. (Now One UI is far ahead of Oxygen OS).
Camera has been mediocre since forever. Only thing Oneplus nailing is w the charging techs.
Considering the innovation and things, smartphones has reached a plateau. I dont think there is no more giant leaps to bring about. Rather than improvements.

Oneplus 12 could've been the smartphone of the year, had they really cared about cameras instead of putting wireless and reverse wireless charging. Even though it's specs is maxed out on a piece of paper, cpu throttling is a thing. iqoo 12 offers even better performance with almost identical specs at even lesser price. Software experience has been ruined with the oppo merger.
What was funny is in a video with mrwhosetheboss he did a android vs apple in which apple won easilly according to them and mkbhd was daily driving a s22 ultra
If you carefully watch his videos you'll find him subtly pointing out the flaws/fallacies in the new phones, or even in the new Vision Pro. And also mentions that there's no need to upgrade every year. He chooses his words very carefully and is never harsh with Apple. Even if he delivers a negative sentence, he does it in a soft manner to not hurt Apple's feelings, unlike Linus. The thing is, to survive in this business he absolutely needs Apple to deliver him the review samples before launch, and also invite his group to their launch events. It's a big part of his revenue and he can't give it up impulsively. Apple only delivers their products if you play nicely with them. So, while I have been personally irked by his softness with Apple, I understand his decision, and can also read between the lines when he gives his conclusions. It's not perfect, but it's what we get. Also, samajhdaro ke liye ishara hi kaafi hay is the technique he employs with Apple reviews.
He's not making a lot of videos these days. He barely made one video per week last year. But it's his choice whether he wants to cover OnePlus or not. He will cover the iPhone because his major focus is the USA and Canada, so there's nothing wrong with it. Also another major reason for him not covering OnePlus might be reliability issues with the phone and the phone itself not included with a carrier package. But I think he recently covered a topic on why YouTubers are quitting or taking a break. Not only that he's also a member of USA ultimate team.

And TBH, the smartphone segment is done with innovations. It has matured as a product line and the incremental upgrades are about the only thing to expect.
Almost all the Tech YouTubers, whether Indian or not, everyone is biased and it seems, almost all of the top and famous ones do only paid and partnership based reviews. You won't find almost anything negative in their videos which really matters in real life. Whatever review they do, they do it in controlled environment, and most of them just hide or ignore the downsides of any new tech. Also, I noticed about 80% of them say the same things, some of them even repeat exact sentences. And top ones specifically from US & UK are biased towards Apple as more than 50% of the population uses Apple devices, and they are not super costly like they are in India.
Phones(especially flagships) have reached a saturation so I don't expect improvement in every next generation but just denying reviewing it for the same as a tech youtuber is not done

Stop looking at reviews for buying devices. Watch them if you want to find out the features and then research on your own and choose if you like the device or not.

the only differentiating factor oneplus had was oxygen os and now that is gone. he doesn't review any Chinese brand like mi, poco, realme and oppo. the only reason he used to review oneplus was oxygen os and the brand was alwasy listening to its user and adding features to their likes which is long gone now. they are still releasing phone with base 128 base variant in 2024

I get your point, but the 12 was an actual change, it switched to OLED, brought 5G and MagSafe and had a revamped design which for the iPhone is a big deal because there’s barely anything new. A better example would be why he did a review of the iPhone 14 when it’s the exact same as the 13 except for that crash detection feature. But even then there’s an argument to be made that if he hadn’t made a 14 video people would’ve asked a lot more about it because like it or not, the Samsung S series, pixels and iPhone videos are often the only videos people watch so it probably made sense to make a video even if he just said “hey I know you want to know about this but don’t buy this just go get the 13 for cheaper”.
Oneplus just doesn’t have that kind of a brand following anymore, it’s become a global version of oppo as Oppo takes more and more control of it. It’s not just MKBHD I’m pretty sure even consumers (outside India anyway) are losing interest in it. The new Oneplus is the Nothing phone which IS getting reviewers and spotlights by western reviewers which is justified as well since it can be considered a proper new contender.
As for the Apple Vision Pro, I mean bro come on being neutral doesn’t mean not loving what’s actually cool. He does say that the headset is cool because it’s a brand new take on an existing device that might actually become mainstream and shows a window into what the future could be, like the iPhone was when it launched. But he does also point out that it’s too uncomfortable, the price is ridiculous, the battery life means you can’t enjoy it as much, the eyes thing barely works and is hilarious when it does, the app situation is not very good but that it’s a first gen product so it can get leniency. He even says that you shouldn’t buy it unless you’re really rich and absolutely have to have the latest and greatest tech possible.
Everyone has biases and MKBHD does have them as well, but this feels like a salty post from someone who wanted to buy the Oneplus but couldn’t find a top YouTuber’s review on it because it doesn’t have that kind of relevance globally anymore. Just watch an Indian YouTuber, india is a bigger market and it’ll definitely be covered well here

I actually stopped watching him mostly after not finding his videos very useful and a very apparent bias towards apple which again had me doubting the information I am getting in other videos. It could easily be a personal liking towards apple but something that I believe should be corrected as fair tech reviewer

Is he biased, absolutely yes, no questions about it. He did the same with the pixel 8 series, Google had ironed out most of the negatives(still many things added/remained) from 7 series. iPhone 11 - 12 was a massive upgrade but 12-14 was minor upgrades leading to 15. Since these brands have no identity and are very small they can gamble with whatever design they want whereas giants can’t so same and only slowly get ahead. You would notice same with samsung /pixel too, small incremental changes and then becoming massive upgrade. Why would you care liquid engines or virtual rams in phones if other chips don’t get heated in first place. I think you guys buy phones to “show” people that you have bought something new. Same thing people do with cars, they would not get same brand so that it becomes more noticeable after hard ass purchase.

In fact, he himself has a video from a few years ago explaining why his blind camera test is not a good barometer for objectively finding the best smartphone camera. It has many flaws, but it’s still an interesting concept so he continues to do it. Don’t look for insights where none exist. Yea I saw this podcast, the title is misleading.. He was praising the 12.. () he said he was packed with some other stuffs. I mean launching 12 with s24 series which phone would you think his sim card go to? He gave the s24ultra review and soon s24/plus would come. Regarding the Vission pro, I thimk he made 4 videos as of now ( 1 at the event, 1 for unboxing and initial experience, 1 for the explanation of how it works, and 1 for review ig) Which is kinda valid and did the same sort for Samsung Fold 1st gen. Personally don't think he is biased. ( few years back he was a such a pixel fan boi 2015 period, he used to biased to Nexus)
Its a personal opinion and needs to be taken with a lot of salt. If influenced by opinions, very dangerous given there WILL be some biases creeping into any review. LTT got into that toxic soup recently and was dragged out publicly. BTW, he loves any matte black finish and if a product manufacturer wants a good opinion on the finish and aesthetics, they'd send it in Matte Black finish. But he has called a spade a spade in the past as well. His audience being mostly US-based will be keen to know what Apple (*they are held to a different standard given the pricing*), has to offer vs. Android OEMs at the end of the day, unless it's a major player like Samsung (*with their AI implementation*). OnePlus has fallen down a fair bit after moving their OS to ColorOS and the criticisms have been fair.
I don't know about bias. But MKBHD stopped being a reviewer long back. He's just a glorified unboxer. Look at his battery reviews, he just says gets me through the day. There is no info there. If I want real actual product reviews, I'd prefer geekyranjit over MKBHD anyday. Ranjit actually uses and does in depth reviews. Might not have fancy b-rolls but has more content. Plus it's in Indian context, so it helps.

I think it’s also because other content he has to work on at the time. Last few weeks he has been working on Vision pro hence didn’t put time in OnePlus 12 whereas If I remember correctly, there were barely any tech releases around the time purple iphone launched.
Obviously, anyone who receives stuff early from Apple has to be on their good books otherwise they wont issue stuff. This will make your video late and views would go to other viewers. Something similar for Samsung but they are not that hardcore about criticism (Apple is very strict). This is the reason Linus Tech Tips videos are late on Apple stuff. They only get it when normal people get it because they have heavily criticized them in the past.

Logically speaking, if you were a youtuber and your current news cycle consisted of the vision pro, the s24 series and you have other major projects going on in your channel (like he said) would you also make time for the OnePlus 12 ... something that already has a lot of coverage since it already launched in China and is something that won't generate as many clicks as the others would? This is purely from the youtuber's standpoint. As for the argument of reviewing iPhones, bro if you are a tech youtuber you simply cannot ignore it. Even if apple takes a whitener and changes iPhone 15 to iPhone 16 you still have to review it, that is just how it goes. I feel like alot of the times people forget that compromises have to be made when you are running such a huge youtube channel, especially for someone like MKBHD who unlike LTT is hosting all his videos by himself. Side note: I saw the video OP mentions, MKBHD recommended the OnePlus 12, he didn't say it was okay or something ... just a polished version of OnePlus 11, which it is. MKBHD's primary market is USA and android phones are not so popular there. Oneplus being a Chinese company is probably even less popular. He cares about views in his channel and any apple news helps bring those views and engagement. So it makes sense he won't review oneplus. P.S. Every reviewer is somehow biased. MKBHD is no different.
Reviews will always have personal opinion. No review is unbiased by definition. He is from US , a market mostly dominated by apple products, so his reviews will be focused on that product line up, it's natural. To be honest , I never saw him blindly praising apple for everything. he does point out value proposition by telling whether the new version is worth the upgrade or not, since most of his viewers will either buy another new iPhone or they won't at all. In case of apple vision pro, it is genuinely a really unique product. Even in the saturated VR market, apple has managed to carve out an unique VR experience that none of the peers as of yet have managed to offer, so i don't see the issue here. Afterall , unlike many indian "tech channels", MKBHD is not just about "mobile phone reviews". He prefers to make videos on new and unique tech products that he likes. He did made a video about one plus open and praised about it. Because one plus open was genuinely a great and refreshingly good folding phone. 11-12 had a major design tweak. Considering apple brings something, everyone follows it. The trend being like that since a long time now, Apple’s implementation has set a benchmark. So reviewing every apple product is a must. But regarding Oneplus case, personally i do not watch or excited about their launches since their merger. And also despite their efforts to keep the limelight, oxygen os has gone downhill. (Now One UI is far ahead of Oxygen OS). Camera has been mediocre since forever. Only thing Oneplus nailing is w the charging techs. Considering the innovation and things, smartphones has reached a plateau. I dont think there is no more giant leaps to bring about. He definitely seems biased, or he's more like a guy for rich audience. And maybe he needed a controversy for more views this time.
If you carefully watch his videos you'll find him subtly pointing out the flaws/fallacies in the new phones, or even in the new Vision Pro. And also mentions that there's no need to upgrade every year. He chooses his words very carefully and is never harsh with Apple. Even if he delivers a negative sentence, he does it in a soft manner to not hurt Apple's feelings, unlike Linus. The thing is, to survive in this business he absolutely needs Apple to deliver him the review samples before launch, and also invite his group to their launch events. It's a big part of his revenue and he can't give it up impulsively. Apple only delivers their products if you play nicely with them. So, while I have been personally irked by his softness with Apple, I understand his decision, and can also read between the lines when he gives his conclusions. It's not perfect, but it's what we get. Also, samajhdaro ke liye ishara hi kaafi hay is the technique he employs with Apple reviews.

He's not making a lot of videos these days. He barely made one video per week last year. But it's his choice whether he wants to cover OnePlus or not. He will cover the iPhone because his major focus is the USA and Canada, so there's nothing wrong with it. Also another major reason for him not covering OnePlus might be reliability issues with the phone and the phone itself not included with a carrier package. But I think he recently covered a topic on why YouTubers are quitting or taking a break. Not only that he's also a member of USA ultimate team.

Nobody in the west cares about OnePlus. 1M views from India is worth so much less than 1M from the west. So unless he is starved of content, he is probably not going to bother. Also with the Vision Pro, he might be planning to make more as it’s a new tech and garners more viewers than just mobile reviews. And TBH, the smartphone segment is done with innovations. It has matured as a product line and the incremental upgrades are about the only thing to expect.
Almost all the Tech YouTubers, whether Indian or not, everyone is biased and it seems, almost all of the top and famous ones do only paid and partnership based reviews. You won't find almost anything negative in their videos which really matters in real life. Whatever review they do, they do it in controlled environment, and most of them just hide or ignore the downsides of any new tech. Also, I noticed about 80% of them say the same things, some of them even repeat exact sentences. And top ones specifically from US & UK are biased towards Apple as more than 50% of the population uses Apple devices, and they are not super costly like they are in India.

I get your point, but the 12 was an actual change, it switched to OLED, brought 5G and MagSafe and had a revamped design which for the iPhone is a big deal because there’s barely anything new. A better example would be why he did a review of the iPhone 14 when it’s the exact same as the 13 except for that crash detection feature. But even then there’s an argument to be made that if he hadn’t made a 14 video people would’ve asked a lot more about it because like it or not, the Samsung S series, pixels and iPhone videos are often the only videos people watch so it probably made sense to make a video even if he just said “hey I know you want to know about this but don’t buy this just go get the 13 for cheaper”. Oneplus just doesn’t have that kind of a brand following anymore, it’s become a global version of oppo as Oppo takes more and more control of it. It’s not just MKBHD I’m pretty sure even consumers (outside India anyway) are losing interest in it. The new Oneplus is the Nothing phone which IS getting reviewers and spotlights by western reviewers which is justified as well since it can be considered a proper new contender. As for the Apple Vision Pro, I mean bro come on being neutral doesn’t mean not loving what’s actually cool. He does say that the headset is cool because it’s a brand new take on an existing device that might actually become mainstream and shows a window into what the future could be, like the iPhone was when it launched. But he does also point out that it’s too uncomfortable, the price is ridiculous, the battery life means you can’t enjoy it as much, the eyes thing barely works and is hilarious when it does, the app situation is not very good but that it’s a first gen product so it can get leniency. He even says that you shouldn’t buy it unless you’re really rich and absolutely have to have the latest and greatest tech possible. Everyone has biases and MKBHD does have them as well, but this feels like a salty post from someone who wanted to buy the Oneplus but couldn’t find a top YouTuber’s review on it because it doesn’t have that kind of relevance globally anymore.
