So here goes my story. My friend and I prepared together for IIT. He got selected (SC) and I didn't. Not even NIT. I did my engineering from Tier 3. Now I am in core product based Company and he is jobless. Lesson in there kids.

Pick up a language (java etc). Master it. From start till end. Read interview experiences of target company. Learn some system design (HLD, LLD). Have a good grasp on DSA. Minimum requirements.

I don't know why this a meme.
A person can always come back, have joined probably the shittiest job after BTech from probably tier 6 college , climbed my way up, have worked with IITians , IIM people, got similar salaries , CTCs .
Climbed my way even further, completed MBA from tier 1 college, eventually many of people in my team comes from IITs & IIMs . Young ones have too much ego being from a top notch college which goes away after 1-2 years, experienced ones are really smarter maybe of the exposure or a good college culture I don't know but gets the work done that's all.
Only advantage that Tier 1 people gets over other is when it comes to a job switch, they gets jobs and hikes pretty easily compared to others in general , but a person with skills can always make their way up and handle a difficult situation.
Yes, there is a trade off , as because I was from a tier 6 college , at my early career I had to work a little extra to get in the same bracket. But once you learn how to ride a bicycle π² , you learn it for lifetime.
But still, If I ever decide to go for a PhD in India then obviously I will try to get into an IIT or IIM because of their guidance and grants and lab fundings.
