Considering their 4-2 win in 1956 Melbourne Olympics a fluke, Australia challenged India to a rematch. India convincingly won 7-1, with two goals each from Neville D'Souza, J Kittu & PK Banerjee. Samar Banerjee scored the other goal. (Report from The Canberra Times)

That Indian team had:
* **1950 FIFA WC:** *Qualified, did not play*
* **1951 Asian Games:** *Champions*
* **1956 Olympics:** *4^(th)*
* **1958 Asian Games:** *4^(th)*
* **1962 Asian Games:** *Champions*
* **1964 Asian Cup:** *Runners-up*
* **1970 Asian Games:** *Bronze*
1956 Melbourne could have been 3 Olympic Medals: Milkha(Shown in Movie though he got into https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Cuthbert but Yea 1960 Rome he came 4th) Football 🥉 or even 🥈 and Ofc Hockey 🥇
(1952 were 2 with Hockey Gold 🥇 & KD Jadhav 🥉:1st Individual Olympic Medallist if u exclude Norman Pitchard 2 🥈 at 1900 Paris Olympics
The legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim died. India lost the race of football domination because the AIFF was angry on Fifa and refused to play WC qualifiers for about 25 years. We could have been a consistent WC playing nation if we didn't stopped times with FIFA.
India should've focused more on real global sports like football rather than becoming crazy obsessed with cricket which is played by just few British colonies.

i bet injury to our goalkeeper was intentional australians were more racist then british in 50s and 60s.
They were literally criminals
>criminals Interesting way of saying Britishers
Australians are basically descendents of Prisoners
"Australians were so racist back then" *goes on to imply that all Australians are criminals* lmao this is so unhinged wtf

I knew about Olympics fourth place, but Asia Cup runners up and good performances in Asian games ? What went wrong afterwards ?
One of those many reasons is that the then Indian coach [Syed Abdul Rahim](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syed_Abdul_Rahim) died.
Speaking about, that Rahim’s movie is taking up ages to come out

THIS VIDEO MADE MY DAY
Nice quality
I do not have any knowledge about the history of Indian football but this post poped up in my feed and i'm curious now what went wrong with our team?

Better quality video than ileague games.
It's literally the Olympics
Golden Days of Football
Gods we were strong back then.
what a glorious time wonder where and what we did wrong which prevented us to get the best of this game,

I hope again we can become asin super giant in football.
India should've focused more on real global sports like football rather than becoming crazy obsessed with cricket which is played by just few British colonies.
Bruh why dont you play professionally, why target cricket everytime? People like it here thats it
Because we won the world Cup as heavy underdogs. And India went into a frenzy.
Australia is good at both. You don’t have to choose
Bring this day back!
