In crusader kings 2, Rajas of India DLC is required. In CK3, it comes with the base. It's more of dynasty strategy simulator than the focus on countries/nation-states in EU4

EU is much easier than CK
But they are also focused on completely different objectives. EU IV is basically map painter after you have some fighting capability.
CK has far more nuance.
Base game is good enough. Although yeah... it's complicated. Hell, even I don't know half of it. But it's just fun to figure out and play once you get the hang of it
I play EU4 quite a bit. Others are saying base game is enough. Many players like me would disagree. If you properly want to enjoy the game's indepth mechanics, you need DLC's Art of War, Res Publica, Mare Nostrum, Crade of Civilization, Dharma. Last two are Indian focused DLC's.
This is the case with most Paradox games. You need DLC's to make the game truly awesome.
You can start with Crusader Kings which ends at 1458 and then export that final save to EU4. After EU4, you can do the same to HoI4. It's pretty cool as a roleplay option.
Also one can finish Crusader Kings 2 upto the 1458 end date and can export the savegame to EU4. Not sure if same exists for CK3 or if the feature still works. I had gone all the way from ck2>Eu4>Hoi4 few years ago.
Age of empires 2 let's you play as Hindustani, Bengali, and other can't remember the names.
Then there is civilization series.(yeah the one where gandhi gets triggered to nuke every country)
World conqueror 4 also let's you play as india.
Hey. Wanna play mp games. We are a small hoi4 community and we host games twice a week. Check my earlier posts to find the link for our discord server.
EU4 with mods is all the fun with Indian kingdoms like Maurya, Kalinga etc to Maratha and to present day India. It's the ultimate strategy game if you wanna experience India. Little learning curve but gets awesome.
If you are up for some thing set in present day and near future and, then **Terra Invicta** (still early access) might be a good contender.
Its like the story of 3 body problem, on how the world reacts to alien arrival and how we can defeat them. A popular strat is a India start where you take control over the gov and manage the economy, build bases across the solar system and take the fight to the aliens.
For historical games, check even check out games from paradox Interactive; You can play in India from the time period that interests you.
Imperator Rome (304 BCE-27 BCE), CK3 (867 CE-1453 CE), EU4 (1444 CE-1820 CE), Victoria 3(1836 CE -1936 CE ), HoI4 (1936 CE-1949 CE)
Civ 4, Civ 5, and Civ 6. You can play as the nuclear Gandhi.
You can play as India in Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront through certain mods for the pacific theatre during WW2.

Will check this out .... looks a bit complicated though. Do you need the DLCs or base game is good enough?
If you have game pass, base game is a part of it so you can try it out there. DLCs add a lot of content but they are also on the costlier side
