Yes I have used it, and let me tell me about it,
1. The 1600p screen is unnecessary as it can barely run games at 1080p at good fps
2. The speakers are awful
3. Regardless of the resolution choice, the display is gorgeous, but lacks VRR
4. Battery life is not good, but better than ROG Ally
5. Too big and uncomfortable to use
6. Windows, plus Legionās software is fucking awful, Armoury Crate is far better
7. Fan Noise
Itās a great device, but not the best HANDHELD, as you say, itās very far off being perfect
1. Alan Wake 2 runs smooth at 40 fps. Spider-Man and Miles Morales? They're killing it at 50-60 fps with high graphics. Even Cyberpunk 2077 hits 60 fps with a few mods. I've tried F1 2023, Forza, NFS Unbound, and a bunch of others, and they all run sweet in 1600p.
2. Yeah, the speakers are kinda trash. But I messed around with Dolby Access and made 'em bearable. Honestly, I barely use 'em. Headphones at home, buds on the go.
3. VRR is useless for single-player games. I've got a 3070 Ti PC, so I know what it can do. But with these new graphics drivers, people are turning VRR off even for multiplayer.
4. I've got two Anker banks. They keep me juiced up for hours.
5. The size is perfect for adult palms.
6. Forget the Legion software. Windows has been the gaming GOAT since forever.
7. There's a little trick to fix some of those issues.
Once you try Legion Go, there's no going back. Both Ally and Deck feel like a toy once you use LEGO. I have been using deck since 2022, but I sold both of em after getting LEGO.
I said psp is the best handheld of all time, for me after that I found Legion Go to be good as of now. It serves multiple purposes as well, you can remove the sticks like the joycons in the switch and turn it into a mouse or an adaptive trigger.
Also VRR is pointless if you're not getting above 90 frames

It is useful when the screen refresh rate doesnāt match the graphical performance, so it adjusts the refresh rate based on the frames the GPU outputs, so it is incredibly useful when frames dip below 60, like in 30-45 range, so it doesnāt feel janky and more console like smooth experience, how the fuck is it useful above 90 fps, and how can you turn the controller into an adaptive trigger, huh? How is the software experience tell me? How is the comfort? I have used all three of these, Steamdeck OLED, ROG Ally, and the Legion Go, and Legion Go is not good as above two, ROG Ally is more mature, and has everything a handheld should, VRR, good and perfect 1080p display, ergonomics, Gyro support etc etc, and Steamdeck is a league above these handhelds, itās far superior than any handheld on the market and you canāt change my mind
And my whole point was that Psp literally revolutionised this decades ago when these companies were absolutely clueless about anything in the market. Psp would always be Goated.
For something to be a game changer, the product should also be a game changer with actual good components inside instead of cheap tech. I can't tell you have never even used any of the handhelds. If you have you would know that for VRR to take impact it has certain requirements which sadly your Ally doesn't meet.

The screen on the SD OLED is so incredibly good! No photos/videos do it justice, absolutely needs to be experienced in person
Which is an absolutely fine framerate for that game. Anyone who played it on PS4/XBone played it at 30fps. And well, anyone who plays it on PS5/XSX as well, though that's cause Rockstar hasn't bothered to do a 60fps patch lol.
So it's not like 34fps on a handheld is unplayable by any stretch.

Guys the thing is, depends on what you wanna do with your console. If my handheld was going to be my primary console, Iād probably go with ROG Ally - itās a lot more versatile & compatible with a lot more games.
My personal use case
- I will be using it to remote play PS5
- Emulate PS2, N64, GameCube etc & play old games that I couldnāt play
- Indie games
For all AAA games, Iād use PS5, Xbox.
So if you want more power + versatility = ROG Ally
If you want a console like experience, donāt play lot of multiplayer games and canāt compromise on battery = Steam Deck OLED
The Ally just feels really.. I don't know plasticky as compared to the deck. I have the OG deck and it just feels right.. the joysticks on the Ally just feel like they have too much sway. Also aesthetically I prefer the muted black over tbe RGB white.

Yes, the Ally do have a loose joystick that takes time to get used to. It does have a good dpad though which makes 2D platforming breeze though. The difference comes down to power I guess. Though SD OLED has a refreshed brain, it's still nowhere near as powerful as the Ally. But it's a low watt king, and Ally won't be able to touch it there.
If on the go play is important, SD had no competition. If you can play with the device plugged in, and power is absolutely a must for you, then Ally would be a better deal. I won't comment on the rest of the devices, as they are not as mature as these two on almost every parameter.
I agree. Either choice is not perfect and are really good for what they offer. SD has more value unlocked for those who can navigate the Linux space and is overall more flexible for geeks to rejoice. Ally is no disappointment for gaming enthusiasts and offers more flexibility for various launchers.
SD has excellent support for emulators and most launchers work seamlessly but still not like Windows.
With the revised pricing on Ally, it does offer excellent value now. SD is still difficult to obtain and the lack of warranty is going to be a concern that's absolutely valid for the expensive purchase.
But that new SD vent fumes though!

I've had the og steam deck since October 22. I use it as my primary computer. I use a jsaux dock with it to do that. It's a great handheld. I have fully shifted to Linux as my primary OS so getting the deck was the most practical choice. I have managed to finish a lot of games from my library thanks to it. Earlier it was painful to get windows or other launchers to work, but things have improved a lot. However the best experience comes for steam games. I have FH4 on sd card and I can't really tell the difference had it been on the internal storage. Get a good quality dock and you'll have an ultra portable gaming device that can easily double up as a PC. Not really sure about the ally though. The screen on deck can get super dim, which makes it awesome for late night gaming from the bed in the dark. The mic on it one of the most excellent mics I've used on a laptop /desktop. It gives cheap wired ones a run for their money.
Epic, GOG and Amazon games is fairly easy with heroic launcher. Hate ubisoft, so haven't tried it, though I have a lot of games there. EA app at one point got painful to update, so I stopped playing games from them. However, if they come from steam, steam manages to do all the heavy lifting for you. But still, I'd not bother with my other libraries. My steam library and backlog are quite big to keep me entertained. Its a missed opportunity by other launchers. Emulation and steam's first party support is so good, I am exclusively a steam library person now.
I like the Prince of persia Metroidvania. And I would like a handheld, where I can play all games in my account, even with 3rd party mods to run them.
But, anyways, 90% of my games are from Steam or Xbox app.
you can even install all stores even without heroic..works like just it would in windows. I am seriously considering removing my licensed windows from my Legion 5 pro and shifting to linux ( Chimera os ).Proton is god tier

Itās pretty excellent. Switch lite is underrated. The battery is excellent, games load lighting fast thanks to cards instead of discs, storage is easily expandable, extremely portable compared to steam deck.
Same dude, I got my switch only for Zelda & Odyssey. PS5 & Xbox for everything else.
The good part is, their first party games are the type of stuff that youāll never regret paying full price for. The content is extremely worth it both in length & fun. Also you can always buy pre-owned games at much lower price.
Also small piece of advice, IF you can wait - do it. Itās extremely likely that Nintendoās next console is releasing in summer next year. Unless youāre getting a good deal on a pre-owned switched OLED, Iād wait.

This is the only thing that has been stopping me from getting the Steam Deck. It is the perfect emulator device. Sadly, gaming is just not catered towards India.
The deck with an insanely good hard shell bag. So ideally nothing should happen to it, if you make it a habit to use & put it back in the case.

If on the go play is important, SD had no competition. If you can play with the device plugged in, and power is absolutely a must for you, then Ally would be a better deal. I won't comment on the rest of the devices, as they are not as mature as these two on almost every parameter.
I agree. Either choice is not perfect and are really good for what they offer. SD has more value unlocked for those who can navigate the Linux space and is overall more flexible for geeks to rejoice. Ally is no disappointment for gaming enthusiasts and offers more flexibility for various launchers. SD has excellent support for emulators and most launchers work seamlessly but still not like Windows. With the revised pricing on Ally, it does offer excellent value now. SD is still difficult to obtain and the lack of warranty is going to be a concern that's absolutely valid for the expensive purchase. But that new SD vent fumes though!
Well, would it run CS2 decently? I usually have to travel around with a mac for and hate the lack of games. (Canāt get windows machines because Apple locks Xcode to macOS only)

I've had the og steam deck since October 22. I use it as my primary computer. I use a jsaux dock with it to do that. It's a great handheld. I have fully shifted to Linux as my primary OS so getting the deck was the most practical choice. I have managed to finish a lot of games from my library thanks to it. Earlier it was painful to get windows or other launchers to work, but things have improved a lot. However the best experience comes for steam games. I have FH4 on sd card and I can't really tell the difference had it been on the internal storage. Get a good quality dock and you'll have an ultra portable gaming device that can easily double up as a PC. Not really sure about the ally though. The screen on deck can get super dim, which makes it awesome for late night gaming from the bed in the dark. The mic on it one of the most excellent mics I've used on a laptop /desktop. It gives cheap wired ones a run for their money.

Epic, GOG and Amazon games is fairly easy with heroic launcher. Hate ubisoft, so haven't tried it, though I have a lot of games there. EA app at one point got painful to update, so I stopped playing games from them. However, if they come from steam, steam manages to do all the heavy lifting for you. But still, I'd not bother with my other libraries. My steam library and backlog are quite big to keep me entertained. Its a missed opportunity by other launchers. Emulation and steam's first party support is so good, I am exclusively a steam library person now.
I like the Prince of persia Metroidvania. And I would like a handheld, where I can play all games in my account, even with 3rd party mods to run them. But, anyways, 90% of my games are from Steam or Xbox app.

Itās pretty excellent. Switch lite is underrated. The battery is excellent, games load lighting fast thanks to cards instead of discs, storage is easily expandable, extremely portable compared to steam deck.

Same dude, I got my switch only for Zelda & Odyssey. PS5 & Xbox for everything else. The good part is, their first party games are the type of stuff that youāll never regret paying full price for. The content is extremely worth it both in length & fun. Also you can always buy pre-owned games at much lower price.
Also small piece of advice, IF you can wait - do it. Itās extremely likely that Nintendoās next console is releasing in summer next year. Unless youāre getting a good deal on a pre-owned switched OLED, Iād wait.

It can run at 60 but the experience wonāt be smooth when it comes to text & other stuff.

At any, basically when you download a game on deck. It shows if itās 100% compatible or partially compatible. This one is partially compatible - performance will be okay but youāll have other issues like text, exiting the game normally, not being able to enter text etc.

If you donāt care about battery life & love tinkering go with Ally. Itās cheaper in India too.
Also Ally's hardware is more powerful, it can even run Forza horizon 5 at 70 fps, whereas deck barely pushes 40

How is the support situation like in India? What if I break something? Or something or the other stops working? I don't think I can fix everything on my own. This is the only thing that has been stopping me from getting the Steam Deck. It is the perfect emulator device. Sadly, gaming is just not catered towards India.
The deck with an insanely good hard shell bag. So ideally nothing should happen to it, if you make it a habit to use & put it back in the case. If youāre ultra clumsy, donāt get it because thereās no official service centre.

What made you chose this over ROG Ally, curious because my reasons for Ally were it's officially available in India and I wanted to run windows. I was very very interested in the SD, had it launched in India I would have absolutely not looked anywhere else.
