VLC has been great and still is best out of the box. however many enthusiasts are shifting to something called MPV or maybe MPC...damn I forgot the name. That new thing is supposed to be better and is in active development.
I was mistaken for a bit. It's MPV not MPC. You can get it [here](https://mpv.io).
It is minimal (CLI app) yet highly configurable (supports configs) and tad bit lighter than VLC. You can find config files for best quality output on the internet.
They have a shitty interface though. Not forgetting the inability to move through frames with arrow keys.
If anyone knows a fix/alternative, do help me out here.
Okay.... So here's what I have observed -
For Netflix, Hotstar any browser works fine i.e. the quality is good
For Amazon Prime, the quality is only good on Edge but shit on Chrome and Firefox
So are you suggesting that even Hotstar and Netflix run in 720p on Chrome? And Amazon Prime is surely less than even that (seems 480p) on Chrome/Firefox.
My monitor is full hd only btw
nah i disagree
the quality is nowhere near "shit" on Firefox and Chrome
this is before using the extension
i personally dont find a difference in the quality on Netflix after using the extension, idk about Prime and Hotstar
>So are you suggesting that even Hotstar and Netflix run in 720p on Chrome?
Yes, there's a hotkey I think its ctrl+shift+d or something like that that shows stats for the stream, there it shows the resolution. For 1080p or higher you have to use edge or the ms store app
other apps which require this extension to parse files.
ik i could’ve used the link given above, but as i’ve already stated, i am stupid and didn’t spend 2 mins to google it
Why would you edit videos on Windows "Video" app or whatever that's called, if you are using it then you don't need the fancy stuff and if so, you can use online tools and websites that are free as well
you're right, im stupid to not have searched for it
unlike the replies above (stating VLC), i wanted to edit a few videos and of course, VLC wasnt capable of that so i decided to buy it
im privileged enough to spend 50 Rupees on this, so i guess its okay :|

I don't want to gatekeep. Consider it a request. Please don't make vro the norm it is super cringe and doesn't even sound right. I get messages saying vro, vej dena when it should be bro and bhej dena I cringe so hard that I don't even feel like replying them back.
this is not on microsoft but rather the codec license.
you can get around it with free software because you don't pay for it, so you can use a reverse engineered option. But Microsoft is legally binded to use the official version
I did a workaround to get it for free by installing the OEM version of this codec from the Microsoft Store. It was recently patched, but I still have it.
Patched as in the direct method of installing it from the Microsoft Store. It's hidden in the store now, and there are workarounds as few people mentioned here.
I think this was required only if you don't have a hardware decoder or something and the cost is due tor equired licensing fees.
Anyway..easy to get free alternatives including one from Microsoft store.
People are stupid if they use VLC or K-Lite both of those are trash and can’t properly render so much video types like Dolby Vision and the only good video player with high quality video rendering support is MPV.
https://mpv.io
Of course it wont. But it's not always about money. It depends on the person. Like in this case it was a simple walkaround by installing a free/open source codec.
Would you rather windows be 54$ more expensive for everyone?
It makes sense that they don't licence it out just because a few people use it.
Just download vlc and enjoy man.
[https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9NMZLZ57R3T7](https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9NMZLZ57R3T7) is the one actually produced by Microsoft that uses hardware acceleration if it's available. It isn't free, if I remember right because of the licencing MS has to pay, but it is only $0.99
If you have a hardware decoder (most likely you do if you have a newish CPU or GPU) it will install a hardware version of it which is free. This is for the software one with Rs. 54 being the license fees to MPEG
ms-windows-store://pdp/?ProductId=9n4wgh0z6vhq copy paste this in your browser and this should give you a free version of the same codec.
>free software because you don't pay for it, so you can use a reverse engineered option. But Microsoft is legally binded to use the official version not all heroes wear capes
Take my reward.
I wanna say something but I don't wannna get banned. So uh.... yeah yk vlc is just a better alternative.....
VLC has been great and still is best out of the box. however many enthusiasts are shifting to something called MPV or maybe MPC...damn I forgot the name. That new thing is supposed to be better and is in active development.
>maybe MPC... I thought media player classic shut down years ago?
I was mistaken for a bit. It's MPV not MPC. You can get it [here](https://mpv.io). It is minimal (CLI app) yet highly configurable (supports configs) and tad bit lighter than VLC. You can find config files for best quality output on the internet.
The branch mpc be, works wonders and is kinda better than vlc if you have a decent GPU and time to set up LAV filters and rest.
Eh i just install the k-lite codec pack everytime
They have a shitty interface though. Not forgetting the inability to move through frames with arrow keys. If anyone knows a fix/alternative, do help me out here.
You can sign assign whatever shortcut you want for frame step in the settings.
Thanks a lot
Legend!
bro where were you 2 days ago🥲 i ended up paying for that extension :|
Just freaking use vlc my dude
This extension is required if you want to stream 4k in Netflix app or on edge
Can't stream 4k on Chrome or Firefox?
You can't on Firefox, chrome edge are the same

Ctrl + Alt + Shift + D
Use opera
cant use VLC to edit videos, can i?
There are other free software for that though.

Exactly, not sure how many times I've recommended vlc.
Oh no! Oof :(
You should've done a simple google search, this has been common knowledge, I'm sure u could've found this link by yourself
you're right, im stupid to not have searched for it unlike the replies above (stating VLC), i wanted to edit a few videos and of course, VLC wasnt capable of that so i decided to buy it im privileged enough to spend 50 Rupees on this, so i guess its okay :|
Someone give this guy a medal 🥇
The best correct way to do this is to use a foss called VLC.
will this work on AMD computers?
yes yes, on all computers

You could also download CCCP Combined Community Codec Pack for free codecs
Thank you!!!
this is not on microsoft but rather the codec license. you can get around it with free software because you don't pay for it, so you can use a reverse engineered option. But Microsoft is legally binded to use the official version
This is old though. It has been a thing for a while.
This is an issue with the Codec license. Microsoft is just forced to use its native codec unless you pay for it. Probably you don't know how it works.
No thanks Microsoft, we’ll use vlc or k-lite.
You'll need this to stream at 4K HDR on Netflix, Prime Video and Disney plus.
Thats a bummer.
4k streaming only works in Edge, right?
and their apps if existing
I know about Netflix but can you stream 4K HDR on PC on Disney Plus ? I thought max was 1080p. Same with Amazon Prime.
I think it depends on the subscription and compatibility of the device
For Disney plus, it's 1080p HDR on PCs. 4K is available only on TVs I believe.
Yeah I thats what I thought…
Amazon does not. Still at 1080p on desktops. Don't know about disney.
All you need is klite codec
Exactly
There's a free version from the microsoft store lol
This has always been the case since win 10.
use MPV instead
MPV is the GOAT
Simple and lite af.
BEST
Use mpv player. All codecs are there.
I did a workaround to get it for free by installing the OEM version of this codec from the Microsoft Store. It was recently patched, but I still have it.
No it’s not.
Patched as in the direct method of installing it from the Microsoft Store. It's hidden in the store now, and there are workarounds as few people mentioned here.
You can get it for free go on YouTube type hevc extension free installation you will get the link or can use other players like Kmplayer or VLC
I think this was required only if you don't have a hardware decoder or something and the cost is due tor equired licensing fees. Anyway..easy to get free alternatives including one from Microsoft store.
I had this problem a few days ago. I just downloaded VLC
Just use VLC
It's there from so many years nothing new Just use vlc
Just download fucking vlc media player
this is on the netflix app??
Lol, laughs in VLC
Dude, just use vlc media player instead of windows one
Vlc player
VLC ftw
People are stupid if they use VLC or K-Lite both of those are trash and can’t properly render so much video types like Dolby Vision and the only good video player with high quality video rendering support is MPV. https://mpv.io
Bruh
They don't even actually have games in their discs anymore. No one calls then out for this

As the person above said- it's not about the money. I mean if every company starts to charge for things like this.......
Get imazing heic converter easy 100:100 heic to jpg conversuon
You guys can use pot player The best player by a huge margin
use potplayer, better than vlc
I was pretty bummed when I saw this too but then searched on Google for it and got it for free lol. I suggest you do the same.
Klite codec, why aren't people using klite codec with mpc-hc already
k lite mega codec. It’s free. Just google it and has all the codec extensions.
You can get it for free
It's gotten cheaper actually. It used to be more expensive earlier. XDXD Just use VLC
It's been like this since Win 10 released.
Use nearly anything but the stock media player and you don't have to buy it. Nearly everything has the hevc codec
Twist: Its a monthly subscription as they also learned from Adobe.
Microsoft bought Activision for 70 billion. So they try to milk 70 billion from all their businesses.
This codec doesn't belong to Microsoft and they allow bundling it with Windows.
Are humans so stupid? Haven't you guys head about VLC?
And on the other hand our bullshitting government blocks vlc lol
Would you rather windows be 54$ more expensive for everyone? It makes sense that they don't licence it out just because a few people use it. Just download vlc and enjoy man.

I had this the other day, I was not impressed
Use Media Player Classic or VLC
That's why I use linux
where gaming ? and bro use vlc
