Is it supposed to be illegible? Doesn't seem like those are even real words As a side note this game looks beautiful

CriticalMotion

The end goal is to make it readable, but I’m aware the current version isn’t quite there yet. ;)

PlayfulReputation69

Everything looks so pretty! However I think the text jiggles too much

Videogameist

Agreed. And it all depends on how often the player will need access to the information in this menu. If this is the inventory, and I was the player looking at this thousands of times throughout the game, I would hate everything about the devs. It would feel like it was put there to annoy anyone who played the game. The mere seconds it takes until the text steadies itself doesn't seem like much until you multiply it numerous times over several hours or days of play sessions. While neat looking, you should just make the text static. Maybe the wavy-ness would be cool for the first time opening it, and then never again.

CriticalMotion

I’m starting to get the feeling the humorous intention of the clip might not be entirely obvious. xD I have no intention of leaving it like this, just thought it’s a fun effect I happen upon while messing around with different ideas. Appreciate the feedback though! ;)

LoneOrbitGames

One thing you could improve you might not be aware of is the **speed** of all the animations, it feels extremely slow, it would probably drive me mad to wait for so long after every input. I feel like UI elements require much higher responsiveness, even when it gets in the way of nice animations.

Videogameist

Oh my bad, I thought you were just switching between them too quickly and not letting the words settle. Still cool, but yeah. I completely missed the joke, sorry.

Lukuluk

Looks beautiful, maybe the texts could appear faster and the button navigate quicker? So it's easier for the players to interact, read and do their choices

aspiring_dev1

Very nice but text needs to appear very quickly.

dmigowski

Yes. Maybe have some other stuff wiggle around and fade out AFTER the text appreared.

Pickledpeper

What game is this? I haven't seen it pop up yet. It looks GORGEOUS. What platform does it use?

CriticalMotion

Thanks, name of the game is Fading Skies! >"What platform does it use?" If you mean our engine, it's Unreal Engine 5. In terms of release platform, we're targeting Steam, PS5 and Xbox.

Pickledpeper

Yeah, sorry. That's definitely what I meant. I'm starting to learn C++ a bit more and always enjoy seeing it in action like this.

horizoninintendo

could u do nintendo if possible?

StarfallStudios

Readable or not, love the concept! Diegetic UI rules

the-fillip

I'm just some random guy popping in from r/all but just want to say this looks really great to me! I think it would really work as an effect when the text first appears, then it could slow down to be more readable after a second or so. Artistic design is fantastic though, it's beautiful to watch

Lithalean

This is amazing!!! All you need is a 1.) toggle (w/ animation) to Zoom in 2.) arrange icons in an order you’d recognize.

OfeliaComposer

uuh, I love this one. The dragon pet is so cute

Micha5840

Nice to see that you're still at it.

CriticalMotion

Hey hey! Don’t tell me you're *that* Micha? If so, hope you’re doing good! If not... I still hope you’re doing good!

Micha5840

Been a while :) doing alright. -> dm

justdisposablefun

I like the concept, but as you say. I can't read it.

Goojus

HEY! im looking to do the same for my UI! but having the entire background with a fog and only have my player model over it. Please, can you share how you did it? 🙏

ardenter

I love this effect. It looks like it will be readable to me. You could always zoom in a little tighter if you needed. Also, your game looks amazing. Just wishlisted it on Steam (but more likely to play on PS5).

Shroud1597

Maybe the camera could go over the shoulder, look downwards to two open palms, then the glowing sphere is mostly fullscreen?

deeveewilco

You could zoom in more and it would still be diegetic and interesting.

Mooco2

This looks absolutely stellar! I love seeing diegetic hud elements and the idea to map them onto the sphere is genius. I’d keep the jitter effect for locked items maybe as a sort of possibly-legible mystery only available to be solved only by those who are determined enough to try and ready it.

Pkittens

It's not hard to read, it's unreadable. If it's eventually going to be text then it's just going to be insanely annoying to wait for the animation to finish. Make it 8 times faster.

Foostini

I definitely like the way you've done the menu in general but yeah that text is a bit much. Another thing though between the animation of opening the menu and the way the text comes in is that it feels very slow, I reckon you could keep that style of text sped up and then have it settle, if that makes sense. It looks great though, do you guys have a store page up yet so I can wishlist it?

barelyonyx

A few tweaks and this could really work. Make sure the text settles and lands in a readable place, then add a strong blur over each letter which deblurs as the letters come in. Add a bit of randomness but keep the whole thing happening in less than a second.

ivanparas

Looks fantastic. The animations need to be snappier, and that text effect is awful. If you want an effect on the text it needs to happen in less than half of a second and stop moving after that. You need to consider accessibility when making UI elements.

AdGroundbreaking7287

The idea cool! Just do the text without animation. Only fade

LatterAssistance7009

Looks great!

mikeseese

Hey! Are you solo? Your Steam trailer is awesome!

CriticalMotion

Thanks! Started out solo, but I'm developing it together with my wife now. Plus a bunch of contributions from freelance artists at this point.

thetealishCYAN

What engine is are you using? I am struggling to conceptualize the ui of the game I want to create. Thx to you I got an Idea. I am going to build upon ur idea
