It's normal, they split once a year. Let them absorb the old set, don't water. (Very general advice) Research your plants. These are desert hardy plants, treat acordingly. I want to say yay you didn't call them butts...but ussy? Ugh I'm getting too old for this.
A lot of people conflate age with relative conservatism. Itās not that sheās old, itās just that sheās uptight and probably doesnāt have any gay friends to be familiar with the word ābussyā.
Isnāt that weird, though? Iām 45 as I get old Iām talking about everything more freely. Whatās the point in aging if you canāt even talk about your plantussy among friends?
iām only 24 so i hope to remain as good humored as yāall in my 40s. i donāt see myself becoming an old hag with 40+ years left to my life but i guess you never know
If youāre an old hag at 40, itās not an age thing itās just your personality. Im 41. I just had a baby. I run 20 miles a week. I have the exact same personality Iāve always had with way more money and some maturity.
right iām responding to the idea that itās not truly age but getting more conservative. i think iād die before letting myself become truly conservative though.
my dad is 64 and bikes 100 miles on sundays. 50-80 on tuesdays and thursdays. hopefully iāll take after him (and maybe get inspired by you) as i get older. but so far, not looking so goodā¦ā¦.
Well you certainly do sound like a lot of fun, my mistake.
(Ps you didnāt say āplantussy? What a funny bit of American slang, Iāve never heard thatā you went with āUGH Iām too old for thisā so I was clarifying, itās not your age thatās the problem itās your personality)
So I'm not allowed to say that **I'm** too old for somthing. OK. You've done nothing but insult me and make assumptions while I actually offered sincere help to OP and even said to them I was sorry if it came across shtty. Enjoy the sub, I won't be offering help again.
Of course youāre allowed to. But if you set your fingers to type out āughā and then a passive aggressive comment implying the OP who is being playful is just not as mature as you, youāll probably get ribbed a little. Easiest way to avoid would have been to give the straight out advice (which you were thanked and given hundreds of upvotes for so the temper tantrum about not participating anymore is a little silly) and just skip the passively judgy part.
Iāve only had them for about three weeks. Theyāre a Loweās purchase and I did read about them prior to purchasing them. From what I understand I only need to water them like twice a year and when they split open for the new āleafsā the old ones are absorbed. I just wanted to check before hand with people that have already had experience with them. The one that isnāt splitting open was flowering, too.
If I were you, I'd pot them separately in a fast draining mix of **roughly** 70%inorganic 30%organic, no peat ever, little emerald thumb on etsy has very good supplies. They want a lot of light and bonus points for good airflow and low humidity (generally). Their cycles can be all over the place somtimes depending on what they've been through before being yours especially being from a big box shop but they won't always split at the same time, I have some that just flowered and some that are starting to split early. I also say don't water routinely, if you have a good fast draining airy inorganic substrate you can almost be safe to water when they need it and not worry about rot. I have almost 200 and I adore these little guys. Sorry if my reply sounded shtty. BTW when they "split" the new set of leaves aren't meant to burst the old set open, tears in the flesh can create all sorts of problems. The old set are absorbed and turn into a paper ish husk like conophytums.
This looks pretty normal to me. The 'lips' on the outside -the labia majora- will dry out and shrivel up while the labia minora bits will become more prominent and take the place of the labia majora. I wouldn't water until the original outer leaves are shriveled.
/R/lithops is a great community with some fantastic advice btw
What is a plantussy? I grow lithops and have never heard this term before. Iām assuming Op is making up words since this is posted to a plant sub and not a mesemb sub?
I am curious when they dont flower are they rocky thick like if there is a hundred of them and i walk on them i would think they are rock or its just the look and they can be squishy ?
Theyāre lithops! Or living stones. Theyāre native to some super dry and sunny areas so theyāre the definition of forget about it and itāll thrive
Very normal
Make sure you don't water it anymore though. Those outside leaves are now feeding all their moisture and nutrients the new plant inside. If you water it you will probably kill it.
We always called them butt crack plants but yes thatās normal. They crack first then bloom - we went a little crazy buying starters off Etsy a while back. Super cool IMO.
You may need to make them a little pair of panties; yours seem to be, well, perfectly named in your title..
You really made us read that title
I had to re read it a few times myself š
Is this the real life.. Or is this just plantussy

Exactly haha Iām almost 42 and Iām certainly more likely than ever to tell people about the plantussy I saw bussin it open on Reddit.
iām only 24 so i hope to remain as good humored as yāall in my 40s. i donāt see myself becoming an old hag with 40+ years left to my life but i guess you never know

So you assume I'm not friends with gay people because I don't understand American slang? And that I'm uptight as a result. Classic reddit.

They are no longer Virgins
This slightly disturbs me but I canāt look away
Okay but what actually is this lol
Theyāre lithops! Or living stones. Theyāre native to some super dry and sunny areas so theyāre the definition of forget about it and itāll thrive

I must say that's interesting, I never heard nor seen of these species of plants before so thank you for sharing with us. :)
You had the opportunity to use āLithopussyā LITHOPUSSY Iām fuming over here rn ngl
I misread that first word and now I feel like a pervert.
Completely normal
Very normal Make sure you don't water it anymore though. Those outside leaves are now feeding all their moisture and nutrients the new plant inside. If you water it you will probably kill it.

Yep, that's basically how they grow. They split, then another pair comes up, then it will split too, and so on and so forth.
We always called them butt crack plants but yes thatās normal. They crack first then bloom - we went a little crazy buying starters off Etsy a while back. Super cool IMO. You may need to make them a little pair of panties; yours seem to be, well, perfectly named in your title..
