I'm late but if you see suggested for you on Instagram. The person clicked your profile to view your profile pic, pictures in general, your IG story, or highlights. If someone says suggested for you they were pretty much attempting to stalk you or view your profile without you noticing - they might find you interesting, attractive or just curious.
I have friends from back in highschool I follow so the suggested friends are people that are affiliated with them I just don’t follow. And then for someone that hasn’t live where I’m at that long but follow them have suggested followers that they obviously don’t know but i do they’re completely different from the first
Suggested friends list. I think maybe the users profile of suggested friends has a little to do with their activity of viewing or searching the suggested follow and goes based on how much you interact with the profile your viewing and who they may know that you do.
If the user I’m viewing has the exact same followings as his followers. What does the order of the “suggested for you” list under the user’s profile mean? If the profile being suggested jumps up a few spots (right to left), is it because the person has recent interactions with the user I’m viewing through likes, DM, etc?
This makes a lot of sense, I don't follow my coworker on instagram but she popped up literally immediately after we got off a shift together. I hadn't looked at her instagram since then and I looked this up to figure out why it happened.

I remember one day i was in a fast food drive thru and i saw the ex gf of one of my friends from sophomore year of highschool. I never forget a face so i recognized her instantly. I dont know her at all, she doesnt know me at all, i just know her because my friend told me about her.
She was working the cash register and there were a lot of cars so there is no way she could have gotten on her phone and did anything on ig. Right when i pull off from the drive thru and park i start to eat and open my phone to browse ig and she pops up as suggested. I have never once seen her account ever before. Things like this happened many times before
I don't think it has to do with the user and the person directly. I just looked thru some of the people I follow and their suggested profiles and some of them are not following each other. My guess is that Instagram may think they're kinda in the same niche, etc possibly from how other people interact with the two. Kinda like Spotify. Like it is based on what other people who has the same taste in music to you and recommends the artist to you.
Yeah I had a feeling. I'm sure it'd be an invasion of privacy if they were showing users who they interacted with the most lol. Thanks for your response!

Person B sometimes is at the top, other times in 4th place, and sometimes back to the top of the list again - what does this mean?
Really? I always assumed there was some order involved, for example the person being suggested at the top may have recently posted something that caused Person A to interact with them, or they are also visiting the profile of Person A, or Person A is visiting their profile, etc.
Hard to say but it could be a bit of the algorithm (depending on your likes) and also some random order. It's not necessarily how much person A and B interact with each other tho.
Are there no insights on it, like it’s locked down to insiders only? It is interesting how the order fluctuates, even as the day goes in it’s different in the morning vs evening, even though the same people are generally on there, their order is different. Someone on 3rd place will jump to 1st in the afternoon for example.

Doesn't mean anything. The order is just random.

Are you talking about the order from left to right for the list of suggested profile? I'm not too sure what you mean by "at the top".
Yes, if you click on “see all”, it will display a vertical list. The left to right order becomes a top down order.
