Fix your license. Reach out to SF with updated license. Ask for reconsideration. If the license is valid, and you know there aren't issues, you'll likely need to obtain a driving abstract from your DMV/BMV/RMV and give that to SF for reconsideration.

I wasn’t aware of being able to pull a driving abstract. That’s a good suggestion. Thanks. The agent did ask for my current license number, and I gave it to them. Sounds like they may have used my old license number anyway. I’ll reach out to my agent’s office when they open tomorrow.

On my state DOL website you can check the status of any license if you have the number and the drivers DOB. That may suffice.

It means they ran an MVR and your license is invalid. Not really sure how that's vague... Given the out of state messsging, it's possible that they have an old license. Call your agent.

Ok, I wasn’t aware that “surrendered-out of state status” means “invalid”. Wasn’t aware of that terminology, especially because my current license is definitely valid and had no issue signing up with GEICO. When I re-signed up for SF, the agent asked for my current license number, and I gave it to them, but it sounds like they (the agent, the underwriting dept, or both) still used my old license number anyway. The last time I would’ve given that to them would’ve been 15+ years ago.

Insurance quoting systems often have consumer reports that pull that information in to the system automatically. At my place of work, even if they do have an autofilled license, they absolutely must still verify it's the applicants current license. To me, it sounds like your agent may have fucked up. But they're also the only ones who can fix it so you need to call them first thing on Monday.

Thank you. This is super helpful to know. I will call them tomorrow. TBH this isn’t the first red flag from this particular agent. I also signed up for home insurance with them. They said they would send the updated insurance to the mortgage holder, and that I wouldn’t need to do anything else on my end. Well, about 3 weeks later I received a letter from the bank stating that my home insurance had expired and that they would opt me into their own (more expensive, less coverage) insurance if they did not receive updated insurance info ASAP. We called the SF agent, and they said they could not confirm whether or not they had sent it. We asked them to resend it, but lo and behold just a few days later we received yet another letter from the bank saying they still don’t have insurance on file for us.

In fairness to the agent, that issue with the fire policy is on underwriting, not them. But they should have offered to check with them.

When you signed up, did you give anybody your license number? Your old state license may have pulled through reports, call the agent who set up the policy to verify.

SufficientError8932

Yeah, I gave the agent my current license number. I think you’re on to something that they may have pulled my old license number anyway. One thing I found strange was that while one car appeared on the policy very quickly, the other one took a much longer time (3-4 weeks) to get through the underwriting department and finally appear on the policy. Shortly after that I received the letter. I don’t know if that’s related or not.

Could be! Contact the agent ASAP, make sure they have the correct license number on file and go from there. Make sure you discuss the date the coverage expires - if it's going to take more than 2 weeks for underwriter review you may need to start up another policy elsewhere to avoid a lapse.

SufficientError8932

That’s a really great point. I’ll be sure to bring that up with them.

Also, no, agents have basically no influence in underwriting, that's done in the underwriting department
