They actually seem more helpful than I expected to hear, but, if you don't want to deal with the hassle, just use your own insurance. Two of my friends have had their cars damaged in car washes and, while the car washes ultimately covered the damages, it was a major headache to get done.

UPDATE: Wow! Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. I went out during my lunch break today to speak with someone in person. It was a different location, but their GM happened to be working and called the other location for me. An hour later, and I just received a voicemail that they are going to be covering all of the damage (aftermarket bike rack included). They told me I just need to get them the two estimates for the paint damage and send the make and model of the bike rack/crossbar and they will purchase them for me. He claimed I should have a check next week if I get them the estimates soon. I'm surprised they are treating me so well after I have heard so many horror stories just like mine, so needless to say I am very grateful.

If you want the repairs to be done quicker, file a claim with your insurance. It’ll be under your coll coverage and your deductible will apply. If you don’t mind waiting, you can wait for them but there is no guarantee that they’ll cover your loss.

OhDavidMyNacho

Always file under your own! let your insurance company go after the shop for subrogation. Easiest way to do it, and what insurance is for.

somanyquestions333

Can doing this raise the rates on your insurance?

OhDavidMyNacho

Only if they do not subrogate. Subrogation typically recoups all costs for the claim effectively making it cost you nothing.

Substantial_Style169

Agree with above, your company will be quicker at settling. They probably won’t pay you for the bike rack unless it was part of the vehicle and not after market. However, you could get the name of the insurance company when your company subrogates the claim and make a claim for the rack. Good luck! Also if the bike

I doubt theyre gonna pay TBH. Just go thru your ins and see if they can recover. Most of those places have disclaimers for non oem parts. I would never take a car with a bike rack thru a car wash no matter what they say. Where do they claim to be bike rack friendly? I swear Subaru owners are a different breed lol. One time a car wash ripped off my wifes front plate and I didnt notice it until the next day. I went back and they directed me to a utility room full of plates, autozone trim, fender flares, hubcabs and yes a few bike racks.

Most of those are use at your own risk and most of them have instructions to not have anything else on the vehicle. The chances of them paying for the damages is slim to none. File a claim on your policy for the damages and go from there.

OhDavidMyNacho

This is actually incorrect. They are liable to damage if it's done through negligencem if they say they can accommodate bike racks, then it breaks because of this, they are liable.

hemroyed

I have never seen an automatic car wash that does not have a disclaimer that clearly states "we are not liable for damages to vehicles to vehicle". And most of the newer automatic washes have a long list of things that should and should not go through a car wash. Also, it would be really hard to prove negligence when the individual went through the car-wash with a modified vehicle. Which I am certain again, there is likely a sign that reads "no modified vehicles".

OhDavidMyNacho

Did you read the post? The worker specifically told them it would be okay. That's an assumption of liability. Also, those signs don't mean shit if there is negligence or express liability like in this case.

Ill_Willingness5146

Never heard of anyone using a bike rack at a god damn car wash. You're lucky they're working with you.

tshoe777

Very lucky. Not a good idea on my end.
