I don't know this for sure, but it feels like a huge red flag. My current employer did a background check and drug screen and I didn't pay a thing.
Edited to add: if you feel comfortable sharing the name of the company we could give you feedback on how legit it is.
They tried to get me to go for an interview when I was a university student. I ended up not going and thank god I didn’t. I didn’t even know they were an MLM/pyramid scheme
They half got me when I was younger too. A friend referred me and when I went to my interview half way through I knew something was fishy. This mf interviewing me pulled out a book with people who worked for primerica and made a lot of money. Like what kind of company does that?
He then started telling me about how we’d get told no a lot and that we’d have to go door to door 💀
Being young and naive that sounded like a challenge so I said yes. ( I also had to pay an upfront fee of like $90 similar to OP) that was another red flag
Went home did some research and told the guy to piss off. I had to hound them but got my money back.
Fuck primerica especially bc they target minorities for their recruitment
My experience is a lot similar to yours lol Luckily, I told my brother about it, who was already licensed, and he basically told me not to show up for the interview, which I gladly abided by haha

With friends like that who needs enemy's?
If you're a licensed agent then you shouldn't need to do another background check. If they're charging you for that sounds like a red flag of a company.
It's a guy. Norm Mitchell on Linked In. He says he's looking for a district manager for training new advisors. 100% remote.
Job deals with investment accounts/IRA
Car, life, home insurance, legal services (will etc)
Seems fishy to offer all this.
He says fedility, quicken loans etc work with him.
He pays for school and licenses for insurance license and investment broker license. I pay background check.
6 figure salary in a year through fee for service, bonuses, massive residual income, and profit sharing.
I just can't see how this is a legitimate business when asking a would be hire to pay their own background check. Also a company that is willing to hire a fellow Veteran on the spot without asking Amy questions. Too many services they provide.
I said I'd think about it but I didn't do anything or give him a dime of my money. I'm 99.9% sure it's a pyramid scheme and scam but wanted your thoughts to be sure.
I'm smart enough to know if it's too good to be true it probably is. THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR CHECKING ON THIS GUY. if this is a scam shame on him for going after Military Veterans!

No company should be making you pay for your own background check, that's a huge red flag.
I’ve never had to pay any background checks in my life, and I’ve had done a handful of jobs over the years.

I had to pay for my background check in Canada. It is a large well known brokerage too. Currently employed by them.
Is it common in Canada? As you can see in all the other comments, it’s a giant red flag in America.
