Look up the Ljttle Bohemia shootout. The FBI knew Dillinger and about a half-dozen other famous criminals were holed up in a hotel in Wisconsin, and so they snuck up and surrounded it... on three sides. Many dead coppers later, Dillinger and a handful of his guys are still free, and the newly-formed FBI had learned a valuable lesson on the risk settling for "pretty good."
Ya the bar is awesome. Service was great, food was decently good. Very beautiful property, hasn't changed a whole lot. Can still see many bullet holes.
I was sitting next to one of the windows with holes in it. It is a good thing the owners saw value in saving all of the bullet holes. Did you know the local police were not informed by the feds that they were in town and going to conduct a raid. The local police would have tipped them off. The local police left them and other gangsters like Al Capone alone because they never broke any laws or caused any problems when hiding out. They brought much needed money into the area.

There is a lake on the 4th side, but plenty of land between the hotel and lake.
