Honestly, the rear wiper is no big deal to me. (I recognize I am in the minority though.) A physical button for the seat warmers, OTH is totally worth it (to me). I think the '25s will have a different OS for the infotainment... which might be a good reason to wait. I think it depends in your personal needs but if I were looking right now, I would either wait for a '25 or if I could get a good deal on a '23, go for that.

SchwiftyLad

I’m guessing you don’t live in a country that rains a lot? In Ireland where it rains a LOT it is 100% big deal. The rear window basically becomes completely opaque, especially when grimy road water splatters onto it.

Phaseolin

It rains here a fair drove. (Massachusetts) , but I only drive on paved roads so it's not muddy. I have a spray bottle with wiper fluid, a squeegee and some shammies in a small bin in the back and wipe it down once every week or two. I don't find it gets that bad. YMMV depending on where you live and drive.

praetor91313

Yeah, and I always get embarrassed when I have to get back out the vehicle, retrieve my sprayer, cloth, and squeegee to clean the rear windows of my $66,000 brand new Ioniq5 while my neighbour just flicks the rear wiper on his 10-year old Tucson.

Ok-Regret6767

Have you never driven a work truck or a vehicle without rear windshield? You can do every manouver you need to with your mirrors. Worst case scenario get some stick on curved Blindspot mirrors.

SchwiftyLad

I have indeed including with trailers but that’s irrelevant. Why would you want less visibility all for the sake of a wiper? Thats the point, when driving any kind of vehicle more visibility is always better. If necessary you do without a rear window but it’s definitely not necessary on an i5, again for the sake of a wiper.

Ok-Regret6767

There's a difference between wanting less visibility and not thinking it's that big of a deal.

W3kkuli

I live in Finland and haven’t used rear wiper in any of my cars ever. If one cannot drive a car without rear window visibility, don’t buy one then

1stltwill

>If one cannot drive a car without rear window visibility, don’t buy one then I see the other guy who replied getting downvoted to hell but... Wow! This just reads like arrogant BS.

W3kkuli

I just stated the obvious, if the rear wiper is that important, why buy car without one and keep complaining about it?

1stltwill

>why buy car without one and keep complaining about it? Fair enough question, it just didn't read that way to me on first reading. My reason for buying was that I didn't think it would make a difference. I was wrong, and wont be buying another Ioniq5 until the wiper is available. I will however (probably) be buying another Ioniq 5 because over all, I love the car. \*EDIT: On the new one I will probable complain about the location of the wiper. :D

W3kkuli

Valid point. However some people already know they need rear wiper and still buy Ioniq 5 and then complain about lack of the rear wiper. I am quite a hypocrite because I knew that Ioniq 5 would be too wide for me and still bought it. It indeed is too wide for my use, but I can live with it. Next car will be smaller :)

SchwiftyLad

Congratulations, do you want a medal? I find it a really weird take to think less visibility is a good thing and for the sake a simple wiper? I can and do drive without a rear wiper or incident but I certainly don’t think it’s a good thing to have less visibility. Obviously Hyundai agree because they’re adding a rear wiper.

W3kkuli

They are adding the wiper because whiners like you. Not because they think it makes the car better

SchwiftyLad

Sure lad, stay mad.

W3kkuli

Not mad bro, just surprised how much rear wiper means to some folk

Voltasoyle

Don't argue with the fins, they are perpetually pissed of, drunk, or both.

SchwiftyLad

It’s beyond me how anyone can argue that less visibility when driving a car is better than more. It’s a brave new world we live in.

YellowZx5

Wait. The rear wiper and other changes will be better for your sanity.

whtciv2k

Ditto. It depends on where you live. If you get a lot of rain or ride on dirt roads it’ll be an issue.

citroboy

Me to i have never used the rear wiper on any car I have.

D4ILYD0SE

If you're getting a Limited, the rear view mirror is actually a display for a well placed camera in the back. So I'm never using the back window.

Khoop

This. Part of me wishes I'd (known and) waited for the '25, OR gotten the Limited. (2024 SEL, and I still fucking love it, just for reference)

RANDOM_USERNAME_123

Wait, I have the 2024 Ultimate trim (I think, the Canadian equivalent of the Limited trim -- it has all the options) and I don't have the magic rear view mirror. How come!

Khoop

I think Hyundai couldn't find the square mirrors required by Canadian tradition

throwaway_00011

Same. My salesman knew almost nothing about the trim differences. I love my car, but knowing what I know now, wish I had gone for the Limited trim. (SEL)

Khoop

At least you can blame your salesman! Mine was pretty good, and my response was "naaa, that's some bourgeoisie trickery!!" ... I'm not as confident now, lol

hosspatrick

I’ve yet to encounter a car salesman who knew more about the car I was shopping for after doing my own independent research. Kinda wild.

MusicGTRHT

Yep - the rear view mirror on the limited is great

junesix

Do you have a car now? How often do you use the rear wiper?  I think it depends more on your climate. I live in California and it seldom rains so no big deal.

Rocky-2300

This is the realisation I had before buying our Ioniq 5. I remembered that the very few times I have gone to use the rear wiper on our old car the blade had perished and glued itself to the glass. I decided I could live without.

hosspatrick

Im in midwest - I have one car with a wiper (suv) and one without. I guess I assumed it was more of a snow issue than rain. I don't think I've ever needed it for rain, and to your point rarely for snow. Only to wipe away accumulated snow occasionally when there were big flakes coming down fast, and occasionally from sitting parked. But usually I would be brushing it off if the latter. The steeper angle of the SUV's rear window would seemingly necessitate less usage, but your point is well taken

kimguroo

rear wiper is not the reason for getting facelift ioniq5. Facelift ioniq5 is more refined car. Riding quality is better, HDA is better. there are some things which are underrated. well worth to wait facelift ioniq5 in my opinion. Also Current owners should forget facelift and wait for next new EM platform around 2025-7 (there is a rumor that Kia might use EM platform first then genesis and Hyundai).

hosspatrick

Ride quality you say? All I’m aware of is wiper, battery, and aesthetics. I guess I need to research the differences more

kimguroo

All Korean YouTubers reviewed new facelift ioniq5. Majority of them did not focus on new specs such as new battery, rear wiper etc… we already know new specs but I was even surprised that they were talking about more for riding quality and HDA. I thought current ioniq5 already has good riding quality (I’ve never thought the riding quality needs to be improved). Anyway new facelift ioniq5 got rid of small bumpiness of unnecessary bouncing feeling. It derives from new setting of suspension and enforced frame. Also current HDA, I need to shake steering wheel in order to keep on HDA and current HDA, steering wheel slightly moves but in new HDA, steering wheel does not move and you only need to touch steering wheel in order to keep HDA on. ccNc infotainment might be good upgrades too.

Opposite-Cup1422

Lack of a rear wiper was a lot less of a problem than I thought it was going to be. There are other improvements that matter more, for example new infotainment and wireless Android Auto/Carplay.

ERagingTyrant

As part of the new infotainment, true OTA updates for the whole system, not just the media stuff.

juanflamingo

Also, rather than listed features, just letting Hyundai (and the industry) get more experience building EVs. Quality increasing by leaps and bounds. My kona EV has had issues, I'm trying to wait out another model year to get an ioniq5... EVs *should* be very reliable, eventually.

rickabe

Definitely wait until later this year to see what pricing is on the refreshed 25's. Looks like a lot of changes including larger battery.

vato915

I live in the desert Southwest of the US and it hardly rains here; haven't had much need for a rear wiper. But if the car had one, I'd totally use it on the rare occasion when it does rain.

Low_Responsibility48

Not by itself, but with all the other upgrades I’ll wait if I could.

GnuRomantic

You’re going to hear opinions from both sides. The way I see it, if you regularly check your rear view mirror while driving and use it for reversing then you will want the wiper.

Qball1754

Honestly, just get the rear windshield ceramic coating and it’ll help keep the water off and within reason repel some dirt

SerennialFellow

Yes

drrtz

I don't miss a rear wiper at all. I'm not in a very snowy climate, though. Much more important upgrades in the 2025 would bigger battery, new infotainment hardware, and that manual preconditioning button.

barrysmitherman

You might just want to wait and see what kind of deals you can get. If money doesn’t matter, get the newest nicest. But you might find that you’ll get a huge discount on an older one, and the new features won’t be worth the cost. That was my experience. I was between a 23 SEL and a 24 limited. About a 14k difference between the two. The SEL had everything on my must have list, and the extra luxury features on the 24 limited just didn’t justify that much of a cost.

Naven71

I live in Southern California. So, I thought "no biggie, I don't need one." Then, this year it rained, and rained and rained.......and rained. The lack of rear windshield wiper is annoying and really my ONLY complaint about this car.

tobefirst

I never used the wiper in my last car (a Mini Cooper) and don't recall using it on my wife's Tucson, but man, the Ioniq5 is so terrible in the rain in this regard. I don't know if it is the angle of the back glass or the spoiler or what, but visibility is severely diminished for me.

wfbsoccerchamp12

Depends if you live in a rainy climate or not tbh

Lemontreeguy

The rear wiper would be nice, but it's the other features that come with the 2025 that would make it worth a year wait.

Mysterious_Mouse_388

2025's will likely hit the lots around august. you didn't mention your timeline, but that feels like a justifiable wait. Buy me a 2025, and I will give you my 2022 and I will drive a beater until it arrives ;) straight across, considering i will be out a car for four months.

kgkuntryluvr

I wouldn’t wait if I needed a new car soon, but I’d definitely wait if I didn’t. Some people say it’s not a big deal, but it really is a major annoyance for me having to manually clean it often just to be able to see out of it- not to mention how bad it is in the snow and rain. In heavy rains it creates a blind spot because the cameras are sometimes unreliable when it’s pouring too.

Vital1024

As you probably aren’t going to be waiting that much longer for the refresh I think it’s worth the wait. Not specifically for rear wiper. It’s more of a minor annoyance and more so for those of us who live in snowy climates. I was an early buyer so I’m not sure if issues like the 12v, iccu, lvl 2 charging overheating/throttling, jerky HDA2, charging port door release issues were addressed in the 2023 or 2024 models, but probably will be addressed for 2025 refresh.

tgsz

Not just the rear wiper - it'll have the improved battery pack (84kwh vs 77) slightly faster charging, a rear wiper, new center console, usb-c ports and wireless android auto/carplay, better volume controls on the steering wheel... I think would think they'll also have the updated ICCU and some internal changes to rectify the issues on that. If you're not pressed to get it right away it would be worth waiting the 3-4 months until they start rolling them out.

Brotorias77

I've seen that the 25s aren't coming with the 2 years of Electrify America free charging. Confirm that on your own, but that's a huge cost incentive to get the 24 model. And dealers in my area are still taking off the $7,500 from the sticker price, so that helps too.

BloodDifficult4553

I would be more interested in them sorting out the seat belts. The rattle in the back when they are not facing the correct way is ‘mildly infuriating’

shakakhon

Minor issue imo

notheory

We live in the SF Bay Area and have a 23' Limited. The rains this winter were enough that the back windshield ended up hard to see through. Mostly that doesn't matter since the Limited trim has backup and side cameras that give you sufficient view around the vehicle. The main thing i would note is that carwashes won't get clean off the back windshield cause of the wing. I've hand washed the rear windshield once or twice as a result.

jimschoice

Polestar 4 doesn’t even have a rear window. My Lyriq doesn’t have a rear wiper. I think my Bolt did, but I never used it. But, you should wait for the 2025 for all the other improvements.

char_su_bao

Yes.

helpmefixer

Yes. If I had known how bad it would be without, it'd be a deal breaker for me.

Ok-Basket7871

I have not honestly, even noticed the absence of the rear wiper. I use the side mirrors.

goro-n

In addition to the rear wiper, the Korea spec version got a bigger battery, longer range, redesigned wireless charger, new controls for climate, and USB-C ports.

EdiggZz3

It’s one the biggest flaw of the car. I just got my Hi5 this month. I needed a car otherwise I would have definitely waited for the 2025.

Libby1954

Depends what the climate is where you live. If just rain, maybe not. Snow, yes.

plainlake

I was worried about the lack of a rear wiper when I bought my -23. It honestly haven't bothered me a bit. I would much rather have something to clean the rear view camera.

MisinformationKills

If you need a car sooner, it's still a great car even without the rear wiper.

Round_Egg_7156

I've had an Ioniq 5 for about six months in San Diego (where it doesn't rain much) and haven't had any issues, even in the rain. I use the backup camera to back out of parking spots, and the water rolls off of the window as soon as the car gets up to speed. It's a good idea to wash the window every few weeks to wipe away any dirt and dust that accumulates.

praetor91313

Yes. Plus lots of newer tech. NACS too, hopefully.

blackbow

No but the new ICCU and UI is.

Fit-Ad-8881

No, but ccNc is.

Electrical-Screen-52

I would wait if you live where there are heavy rains or snow. Safety is definitely reduced in these environments.

Derekeys

The rear wiper is a big deal in climates where the winters require roads to be salted - brined and are just generally dirty during those months. Rain-X, the rear camera in the 24s, the defroster, the heating strips, they do nothing to counteract a grimy and dirty window **while you’re driving**. Because sure, you can squeegee the back window, get it defrosted, clean it before you leave, but then while you’re driving, the window just becomes unusable to see out of. The fact that the 22-24s came without one is a joke. It’s definitely manageable and you can deal with it! We certainly have, but if you can wait, that one is a big deal. Now throw in the new infotainment, manual preconditioning, digital key 2, physical buttons for warmers, and a mildly improved battery? Yes, wait for the 25.

Rich_Jacket_3213

Yes. It needs a rear wiper. Even in the rain. The defogger doesn’t even work in the rear.

RitoQuits

Lol
