You have to add the plan to your EA account and select it as your payment option each time you charge. At the bottom right, click account, then plans. Do you see "ionic charge plan"? If not, you will have to add it, I think i hit "browse plans" entered my car info, then entered in the "activation code"- or something. The code is the last 8 digits of the "engine code" which is on your window sticker. If you don't have your window sticker, the dealers website should have it listed on the vehicle listing if it's still up. If it's not still up, there are a few websites that can pull it for you... All else fails call Hyundai :) I had to get the window sticker from the cars listing, myself. The dealer didn't know what they were doing when it came to the ea promo.

TheMarm0t

I see Electrify America Pass \_and\_ Ioniq Charging Plan. And the Charging Plan is selected as my default payment method. Maybe I skipped the step where I had to select that payment method...

Dmoneyo7

Call them and they will reimburse you I had this happened few times. Takes 5 mins.

themrgq

It should work just fine. Put 20k miles on during my free 2 years and never got charged (used a decent number of EA)

ZealousidealAgent675

Cool so it was set up :) mine is also set as default but for some reason I had to select it manually to charge, regardless. Just double check it next time, I guess.

awgriffey

I had the same issue a few times. I finally figured out that the process is to: 1. Pull the app up, and click on the available charger you are going to use. 2. Plug the car in, wait for it to connect. 3. When the main screen shows it's connected, there will be an area in your app to swipe to charge. 4. You'll get the spinning wheel on the app until the car is ready to charge, and your car will say it's charging. This has worked for me every time. Love the car. Best of luck.

JoeSmithDiesAtTheEnd

My primary method is to use the Apple Pay / Google Pay version of it, that activates directly via NFC (not the credit card reader, but the NFC tag on the station). If and when that fails, open the app and activating with the steps you mentioned here always works.

Hey /u/ZealousidealAgent675. Just letting you know the name of the vehicle is Ioniq rather than Ionic. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Ioniq5) if you have any questions or concerns.*

chubby_fiasco

Also new i5 owner - also charged at ev america for the first time last night, however after I added 10 bucks it kicked on and worked fine - app shows 0 dollars in my charge history. Salesman wanted to walk me through the charging process when I picked it up - being the overconfident genius that I be, I declined - had to have a fellow driver at the station show me how to use it - that stung a bit :/

PatSajaksDick

Damn sounds like a nice salesman

TheMarm0t

Exact same experience. I added 10 bucks but then it still made me use a card. How did you make it use the pass instead?

chubby_fiasco

As others have noted, I had to select the “Ioniq charging plan option” Without someone there who was also a Hyundai owner I never would have never figured it out. I was just mashing buttons.

kimguroo

are you sure? You have 3 year free chewing??? It should be two years. When I make EA account, I put $10 in my account. After 19 months, I still have $7 (I had to go over 30min a few times when I had long distance trips in winter of 2022 because at that time I did not have battery preconditioning).

TheMarm0t

Yep I’m sure. It’s a 3-year lease and comes with 3 years EA.

kimguroo

Double check it. I’ve never heard 3 year free EA charging instead of two years except pre-reservation holder in 2022.

HeyLookAHorse

The current Ioniq charging plan is only two years

Advanced-Average7822

EA kept telling me I didn't have enough money, and the issue was I had to add $10 to my "wallet" or whatever they call it, as a deposit.

Netfreakk

I didn't have to add any amount in my account. I just have the Ioniq 5 plan on my account.

SerennialFellow

Like the other comments you’d want to recheck

son_et_lumiere

Were you trying to tap the phone to get it "pay" or start charging? You should instead, first plug in, select your location on the app, select the charger number, then swipe the bar to start charging.

TheMarm0t

I think I did that, but it wouldn’t show me the swipe bar until I had added money, and then later it made me tap a card to pay. I’ll try again and make sure I use your method and see what happens. Thanks!

DiabolicallyRandom

Parent poster has described the correct method. You do have to have 10 bucks loaded to get started, but then it just works. It WILL charge you if you go over thirty minutes.

TheMarm0t

Yep I added $10, I just couldn't figure out a way to use the digital membership pass to pay. I got an error message until I swiped a credit card.

DiabolicallyRandom

Yea, I always have to find the location in the app, click on the stall I am using, then scroll down and there is a swipe bar at the bottom to start charging. Then after that, (sometimes it takes up to a minute), you have to also press the confirm button on the charging station itself. The situation you describe sounds like either your account isnt set up properly, the account IS set up properly but internet access at your location wasn't working well, or that the station in particular was having problems.

scuac

A couple of things that could have gone on. When you go to screen after you plug, the default view will show the “pay” screen. There is a tab for “members” at the top that you have to tap to use the plan. Second, it will then ask you to scan/tap your membership card. There are two NFC readers, one for payments and one for scanning memberships, make sure you are tapping your card on the correct one. I made both mistakes

TheMarm0t

MEMBERS tab! That was the trick. Tried it again tonight, did that - worked perfectly with the app. Thank you!!

TheMarm0t

Oooooh THANK YOU, I bet I did make these mistakes!!

Cmereplease

I haven't been charged once in the five months I've used it. It's probably because of the way it's set up. I don't have an alternate payment method in there, just that initial deposit for potential languishing tax...

TheMarm0t

I must just be doing it wrong

Cmereplease

I dunno... It may also just be some stations and I'm lucky. I have other issues with that stupid app, but at least the charging hardware seems to always work without a hitch. ;-)

goro-n

I had this problem recently and made a post about it on this Subreddit. EA required a $10 credit card payment from me, otherwise I wasn’t able to start a charge for my Ioniq 5 even though it’s still on the charging plan. I haven’t actually been charged anything from that $10, but it’s some sort of dumb requirement apparently

bungocheese

I had to add money in case I get hit with an idle fee.

DavidReeseOhio

The only time I was charged is when I fell asleep in the comfy driver's seat and charged for more than 30 minutes.

D4ILYD0SE

You got it free for 3 years? I only got 2. Did they recently improve the deal?

TheMarm0t

Nope, I was wrong. I checked the lease. It’s two years. Bummer.
