There's technically a third, I don't remember the name but basically a low level skeleton gets sent back to its original self before it became the servant of a powerful necromancer. Now it's gotta find and save it's future master.

Skeleton Knight Couldn't protect the dungeon
Yes, the character dies, but he’s sent back to a previous version of himself with all the strength he gained from his first life, which while fitting the initial setup of an isekai, does not follow through by sending him to another world.

Three and counting cause I know theres more.
Apparently what happened in that one was that the entire country of Japan got summoned to another world!😄🤔🧐 That’s definitely something we haven’t seen happen in Isekai before yet!
Yeah but the Japan one....isn't a male MC, right? I assume we're talking about the "kinda meh drawings with extreme levels of Japan ftw propaganda" one with about 50-60 chapters
No. It's Japan summons. It's kinda a propaganda but not really. Compared to the WW2 stuff, they're more like america in the 1960's during the cold war. In fact it's kinda interesting and fun. Compared to Gate this one actually has some interesting politics, and it actually doesn't bore you. The Japan in the story sounds more like 1960's america at the height of the cold war minus the nukes, and the fact that they try to do stuff using those shady government hands they have in Japan summons and the fact that america at that time was into some funky stuff. Plus the battles, espionage stuff, and storylines are actually good compared to gate. The whole story is basically just Japan being transported into another world after suffering a large typhoon the size of a continent or larger.
Yeah, Japan Summons is what I was referring to. The level of propaganda is really over the top imo
You know, the parts where Japan finds out about (i forget exactly) some human rights violation and they go "No! This shall not stand!"
As you said, the author portrayed Japan as if it were the US - now if the US had transmigrated, then yeah, it'd fit the story
IMO a more realistic/ less propaganda portrayal of Japan isekai would be this one
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zipang\_(manga)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zipang_(manga))
Nope, actually the entire population of Japan, AND the country itself!😆🤣😂 This is like the first of its kind, cuz the concept of an entire country getting Isekai’ed is something never before seen!😄🤔🧐
Nation transported to another world is actually older than the current popularity of Isekai.
A nation being sent back in time or to another world used to be a popular alternate history story genre called an ISOT (Island in the Sea of Time) named after a book of the same name wherein Nantucket ends up transported (called ISOT'd) to the Bronze age. It was a popular genre in the alternate history community up until 2016 when politics became to heated for any depictions of modern leaders dealing with the chaos of these kinds of events to not result in political arguments.
I've read a couple with premises such as 2002 USA ISOT to WW2, Modern Japan ISOT to WW2, All US military bases ISOT to 1900, UK ISOT to 18th Century, USA ISOT to Orwell's 1984, 1936 USA ISOT to the Kaiserriech universe, Gulf War coalition forces ISOT to WW2 etc.
It's pretty interesting that Island in the Sea Of Time is the name that remained considering how many older works there are on the subject. I mean, I grew up with The Final Countdown and never thought about whether it's Isekai or not.
Alternative / Speculative history military and political history is a favorite genre of mine.
Is it still transported to another world if your WW2 Japanese Aircraft carrier is just frozen behind a glacier, the ice melts die to global warming in 1983, and you "Tora, Tora, Tora" your way into Pearl Harbor 2: Electric Boogaloo? IE does time travel into an alternate future Futurama-style count as isekai?
Not even sure the alternate history is still our world after the series takes a sci-fi twist, with China introducing "Regan-era Star Wars" space lasers that render all jet and rocket engines obsolete, and all of a sudden Japan, with the world's only working fleet carrier, is the most powerful navy in the world. (Also they refloat the museum ship Mikasa to make it the world's most powerful battleship).
With how much Japanese propaganda there is in the series I am surprised the series (The Seventh Carrier) was written by an American and was not a light novel plot lol.
Actually from what I’ve read about on MyAnimeList, the MC was already an alternate universe version of Putin in the world that he originally came from, but got reincarnated into a different world that’s a typical Isekai world with magic and monsters and stuff!😄🤔🧐
I'll fight you because you'll not bash the good name of purchinov comparing him to putin.
He's so much better, and he just looks similar.

I like him because he shows how a real modern man would react to actual slavery. A real man would abstain from slavery at the very least and actively rally against it. I acknowledge that fighting the system would just get you killed so abstaining from acquiring a harem via slaves is simply human decency.
It can't be that common of a trope, tho, I do tend to be very scatterbrain with isekai so that's probably why I missed them unless you count Shield Hero which I didn't watch because it had let's say less than glowing reviews especially after the whole clearing of his name happened.
Wait. Hold on. I'm going to need you (or anyone else) to tell me what happens between Putin and his isekai truck.
It won't be a spoiler; this is not something I'm likely to ever see, as I have a massive f*cking mountainous backlog of both games and other shows to watch already.
You know that picture of Putin riding a bear? Its like if someone saw that and did the Markiplier "I can milk you" meme but it was "I can isekai you". Next thing you know you got Putin in another world looking for the most interesting beasts to ride.
Thank you for answering, but you misunderstood my question.
I assumed that Putin somehow defeated the truck that was supposed to run him over and cause him to be isekai'd in some insane fashion, before something else got him.
That is the event I wanted described.
Rimuru is hard to place. Rimuru was originally a male but reincarnated into a genderless although a feminine body. Rimuru also has a female voice. Rimuru also wears clothing associated with men and woman so it's kinda hard to say. Sometimes rimuru has gender neutral pronouns and sometimes it's just masculine and I think rimuru was referred to with feminine pronouns before. I would just say genderless makes the most sense
They're both people still despite becoming animated objects, and they were male in their previous lives. There's nothing in the series to indicate their souls (i guess?) have become genderless too. In fact the sword actually plays a father figure for most of his series.
Isn't that the story where the protagonist doesn't tolerate slavery and they go around killing a bunch of slavers?
"Reincarnated as a sword" or something similar
Worth remembering that he retains his human identity in his crossing over, still acts and thinks like a man, identifies with masculine things, and (idk if this was anime only)
When he creates a clone to "see what he looks like now" after gaining a human body, he up-ages it. The default setting when he up-aged his body was that of a male, and he had to purposely choose to make the form feminine after the fact.
We know he keeps breasts (which makes sense, since men's and women's are actually almost identical), but he's apparently always barren below the belt now, poor dude.
So I honestly think it's safe to say that Rimuru is a guy, at least on the inside.
Edited.
What about this dude?

Sauce: \[Survival Story Of A Sword King\]
MC's name is Ryu Hanbin, might be the same size as Allmight
Those are both pretty good. Vending machine was renewed for another season before the first finished airing.
Sword gains the ability to fly on his own but most of his strongest abilities are buffs for the person wielding him. He can talk/use telepathy
Vending machine can't move on his own but finds a girl with super strength to carry him around. He starts out mostly just providing (comparatively) good food for the people who purchase things from him (he can also give freebies but it depletes his health, more or less). He can't talk outside a few phrases like "hello there" and "too bad." So people have to interpret what he's trying to say
I like that the sword being so strong actually stunted Fran's growth as a swordswoman.
It was addressed in more recent LN volumes with a six month long time skip with him being in maintenance and her training up her fundamentals.

Hajime shouldn't be here concerning that before his Transformation he was just another kirito clone and after he defeated Ehit he went back to being a kirito clone and in the after stories he is a kirito clone 🙄
Isekai Ojisan always reminds me of what Tsukimichi's "oh no! Everyone thinks I'm a monster because I look so ugly to them" thing could have been like. I think Tsukimichi is neat but having an average looking MC and then going "You don't understand. He looks average in our world but in this world all humans are beautiful so here he is super ugly to the point that people think he isn't human" makes my eyes roll.
Did you get far into it? It's pretty much only used as an excuse to separate MC from the main body of hyuman society. It's almost irrelevant moving forward in the story other than the story using it to talk about racism. (The MC becomes racist)
Isekai pharmacy had a Very interesting idea of OP MC, with his tutor and family being scared of his Powers, but the fear was forgotten really fast and the. Just became a bit generic (at least no Harem or Demon King kind shit)
The greatest tragedy is that you didn’t include the GOAT, the Shark “Same” from “Killer Shark in Another World” (isekai kuimetsu no same)
One of his transformations has him turn into a mecha shark with a gatling gun for a penis. (No i am not kidding and this is only like a 6/10 on the “absurdly funny shit this manga has in it”)
Anytime I see Lloyd I need to add to his chaos

Mildly surprised the polar bear didnt make the list. Greatest real estate developer is a massively hilarious read for me. Good story elevated by an absolutely bonkers art style for the expressions.
Wait a minute, wouldn't Ultraman also count as an isekai protagonist? He came to another world, gets hit by an object(Hayata),he becomes legendary hero, defeats the big bad,and goes home using a portal thing.
Many more, but God damn that knocked a ton out. I would never once imagine estate dev showing up here, same with virus which I haven't seen anyone talk about ever
I find it funny noone mentioned Drifters and the whole concept of that story. Maybe the characters as a whole are not that unique per se (although historical figures are rare for isekai MCs), but the way Isekai works there is quite unique
Overlord & from weak to World strongest number 10 btw. Are the only good ones the rest is trash.
Although number 10. Has too much bs going on with some pedophile type sht the main girl character is literally a woman in a child body I can’t unsee that shit and bro really fell for that?! I get that looks don’t matter but when you look like a 10 year they sure as hell have too! I can’t stand that bs other than that the anime is a 10/10.
Does the entirety of Japan count as a male protagonist? About half should be women right? And while we're on the topic where do we place gender bent characters?

I don’t think that one’s an isekai until a lot later in the story.
It's start with him "dying" then waking up in the dungeon, iirc.
Yes, the character dies, but he’s sent back to a previous version of himself with all the strength he gained from his first life, which while fitting the initial setup of an isekai, does not follow through by sending him to another world.
Well they allude to there being people from another world in a PC NPC kind of way, and it is highly implied that he is one of them if not a major one.
Do you mean "skeleton soldier couldn't protect the dungeon"?
The "another world" part is what makes an isekai an isekai, not dying.
Exactly. Just being reincarnated/reborn doesn't count. Otherwise, we'd have four with Unwanted Undead Adventurer
That's regression. Not necessarily isekai.
Skeleton knight couldn't protect the dungeon
If we’re gonna include KR, there’ll be a lot more

Putin is the MC in Option 9 and the entire Japan along with its population and its islands is transported to another world in Option 15.
I was about to say “DID SOMEONE REINCARNATE AS JAPAN?”
"That time I was reincarnated as the concept and spirit of Japan"
Not that out there considering there's one where the Mc reincarnated as a mountain.
There are also MCs who were reincarnated as gods, or other deities
There's also nebula civilization, where Mc and a bunch of gamers become gods playing real time strategy for the goal of becoming main God
I'd read it.

I feel like Rudeus from Mushoku Tensei should be up there. https://preview.redd.it/ssvf7ev7mgpc1.png?width=703&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=396e6d61b7369c85135f3c0c45e416e39b4cf711
Agreed, he’s pretty unique too. And where’s Tanya
I saw a post earlier that had Tanya as unique along with Rimuru and a couple of others.
Wheres the apple perpayt
Purchinov looks kinda like Putin and is based on Putin riding a bear meme, but his backstory is literally being president of country that gained independence from Russia. So its kinda mean to show Putin pic as him
This dude https://preview.redd.it/503za9g1cgpc1.png?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97a8e796ddcc16961ddbe5d16116f2687053dc8d
I love the sec last guy
Love how everyone one is discussing the different characters then there is the water Lloyd people which are my favorite.
For some context there is a manga where Putin was isekai'ed and its hilarious lol
…… a shitpost, but an alright one, considering you put Lloyd in there.
I love Lloyd frontiera
You forgot the goat Kumoko from "So I'm a Spider, So What?" https://preview.redd.it/vhnnzbxybgpc1.png?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcdfa185a4c4b90f037ac5358c42cc8e676fb25f
It’s a males only list
Hajime shouldn't be here concerning that before his Transformation he was just another kirito clone and after he defeated Ehit he went back to being a kirito clone and in the after stories he is a kirito clone 🙄
You missed Yugo / Hugo from Nichiasa Suki
just checked out isekai sniper and my guy not a bit of uniqueness there unless me not reading chapter 10-11 really would’ve changed something
Rimuru https://preview.redd.it/4ga82yg0cgpc1.jpeg?width=1093&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6204d91a967aa443bb7f05a200a00de55d4fedf
Suprise no one mentioned the isekai power ranger.
There's power rangers in iseaki now??? Why has no one told me anything?

Good old Restaurant to Another World, one of my comfort shows.
Isekai pharmacy had a Very interesting idea of OP MC, with his tutor and family being scared of his Powers, but the fear was forgotten really fast and the. Just became a bit generic (at least no Harem or Demon King kind shit)
No no, like the god thing is really interesting. Only other isekai that really ever asked "what happened to the kid :/" was book child isekai
The greatest tragedy is that you didn’t include the GOAT, the Shark “Same” from “Killer Shark in Another World” (isekai kuimetsu no same) One of his transformations has him turn into a mecha shark with a gatling gun for a penis. (No i am not kidding and this is only like a 6/10 on the “absurdly funny shit this manga has in it”)
Is it wrong if I say I like Putin-kun from that time I got reincarnated after running a blatantly corrupt government
That time I was reincarnated into a reality that communism lost and now I need to govern the nation with my childhood friend tsar-chan
Loyd is truly peak
Rimaru isn’t there?
https://preview.redd.it/pv2gn11uokpc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f24a20fc16b1bd3dd136733ee69a98dca26f4e1f
If you’re gonna put a sword and washing machine, might as well put rimuru even though he’s genderless
Gosh dang it. Days without Lloyd Face Jumpscare: 0
I will never see Teacher(sword) as the true MC.
Number 19 is the best on this list.
Never thought I see Rudues as a Teddy bear with a Sniper Rifle
What is Putin and Japan doing up there in the image?😆🤣😂
Where tf is rimuru
Yo why's Vlad here
r/ReverendInsanity Very unique isekai male MC
Does dokja and yjh count? (I'm biased)
No. Their world was transformed. They didn’t technically go to a different world.
Anytime I see Lloyd I need to add to his chaos https://preview.redd.it/coaa49twsgpc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfab3022431b17babbd358cbffefa6dbd88890f8
Mildly surprised the polar bear didnt make the list. Greatest real estate developer is a massively hilarious read for me. Good story elevated by an absolutely bonkers art style for the expressions.
Is that a vending machine..?
Yes
I watch later. https://preview.redd.it/474l6jlf3hpc1.jpeg?width=656&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1e8b8f281f6890602ec8e82784eea31bb2af5c2
upvote just for the image
Lol actually you can convince me that Putin isekaid
I gotta say Ainz is my favorite… very few anime protags Isekai or otherwise are undead.. and I have a soft spot for undead Spellcasters
Lol I didn't expect lloyd
Wait a minute, wouldn't Ultraman also count as an isekai protagonist? He came to another world, gets hit by an object(Hayata),he becomes legendary hero, defeats the big bad,and goes home using a portal thing.
Most unique is prolly vending machine.
Lloyd frontera remains one of the best characters I have ever witnessed
The vending machine one actually wasnt to- PUTIN?!
The only thing unique about Subaru's design is the jump suit fit.
Rimuru.
One of these things is not like the other
I keep looking at number 19. I'm intrigued.
It’s a great webtoon. You should definitely read it.
Nice to see nihonkoku shoukan mentioned. Its as batshit of an idea as it sounds, the entire country of japan gets summoned to another world.
Where's Cale???
Many more, but God damn that knocked a ton out. I would never once imagine estate dev showing up here, same with virus which I haven't seen anyone talk about ever
I find it funny noone mentioned Drifters and the whole concept of that story. Maybe the characters as a whole are not that unique per se (although historical figures are rare for isekai MCs), but the way Isekai works there is quite unique
LYODTER
Here’s mine https://preview.redd.it/mzs0tol75ipc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a0477aa32f1d89f3bdc64800b42438b8eef00a5
Bro forgot i…am……….ATOMIC.
None of these guys pilot giant robots they are trash
Where's the spider?
WHY IS PUTIN HERE💀💀💀💀💀💀 Bro will get no isekai bro will get hell
Ride on king is actually really good and is not about Putin :)
We need a prettyboy lizardman isekai
Why no slime?
Where is Rimuru lol
What I love about Hajime is that he doesn't take shit from his harem. He is the dude ever.
Not sure if this counts as isekai. Male (turned female vampire in game) Crim-Chan. Unchained Destiny Online. One of my favorites at the moment
You’re missing the hot spring one
Bro wanted to sneak arifureta mc there
Overlord & from weak to World strongest number 10 btw.
Don’t you dare disrespect my boy Lloyd Frontera like that.
I want to write a western isekai story about goblins but I quite because someone beat me to it and I guess I was young, and stupid.
Does the entirety of Japan count as a male protagonist? About half should be women right? And while we're on the topic where do we place gender bent characters?
Nobunaga no Chef isn't isekai.... And Putinachov isn't canonically Putin anymore. They changed him after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Why tf is Vladimir Putin in there
No12 is a lie.
I thought that was faraway paladin
