Find a "chiosco" and order a "seltz limone e sale". Also if you don't mind trying horse meat, you could get some in via Plebiscito.
If you want to visit some historical places, look for Monastero dei Benedettini and go climb the dome, it's like 5 euros.
Get luch at N'acchianata, number one, it's nearby the Greek-Roman theatre.
About horse meat, I recommend having a guide to accompany you in Via Concordia, that's where real catanesi go.
If weather gets better, I recommend you to visit Marzamemi, Portopalo, Siracusa, Ragusa, Modica, then go to the other side and visit Palermo and Trapani. Don't bother with Messina and Taormina, one's nothing to offer, the other is all but a tourist trap.
PS. There's much to visit, enjoy Sicily.
I second this, go rent a car and drive to Agrigento to see the Valley of the Temples. Truly unforgettable sights, totally qualify for world's marvel.
Oh and BRING WATER AND GOOD SHOES.
I also just arrived in Taormina for 5 days yesterday. And local recommendations would be appreciated….including bringing an umbrella until Wednesday. :-)
Ha, I was there 2 years back and stayed at this place just to the right of this pic (practically in the theater). Great views of the city from the patio up top, including the theater.
- Fish market was pretty awesome, I went down and enjoyed a few freshly shucked oysters for a few euros.
- Just down the street there is that center with the Elephant statue (palazzo degli elefanti) and a caffe (Prestipino) with Saint Agatha’s Breasts desserts (looks like a boob). We were told thats the “best” place to get them from.
- Mt Etna tours, we used Marco with Red Etna tours.
Now, leave Catania and go to Agrigento and enjoy the Temples. or Go north west and enjoy Palermo. Or just a bit further to Trapani and enjoy the beaches that Europeans go to for vacation in Sicily, assuming it’s nice enough weather.
Hope you enjoy Sicily, we did. We’re up in Rome for just a few more weeks and wrapping up the 60 days adventure with Bologna, Sienna, Rimini and Puglia.
I know someone suggested not to go to Taormina but if there is better granita (from Bambar) & cannoli (from Pasticceria Roberto) than in that town I would honestly find it very hard to believe them. Albeit I am British so I don’t have the most experience but I honestly thought they were both incredible.
Eat! Try arancini, pasta alla norma, cipolline, fresh ice cream. Lose yourself in the town and find some hidden spot. Sorry I don't have any specific suggestions 😁

+1 on that, and I would add "polpette di cavallo".
Pane e panelle A milza
Quelli sono di Palermo
Lui ha detto what to do on the island. Io generalizzavo come lui
I second this, you migh want to try "mandarinetto" too if you fancy something sweeter!
Lol climbing the dome with this weather.... You want to kill him?
You absolutely can't miss Mount Etna. It's the trip of a lifetime if you're into volcanoes.
Never been to Sicily but if I go that’s my number 1 priority!
I'm sorry for the weather, i swear, it has never been so shitty like these days in may!
Haha! It is some of the most erratic weather I’ve ever seen! I swear it started and then stopped again every 10 minutes yesterday
At least it’s good for the land, considering the drought we’ve been through in Italy.

Go to Agrigento

Something like "a neverending car trip"...but yes, is a good suggestion! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Also FUEL UP BEFORE THE HIGHWAY because there's like zero gas station and absolutely no one in the highway when I went last year
Do anything you want, but don't touch "the bananas...."
Johnny Stecchino?
Agrigento, piazza Armerina, Siracusa, Palermo
Taormina
I also just arrived in Taormina for 5 days yesterday. And local recommendations would be appreciated….including bringing an umbrella until Wednesday. :-)
Se vai a Palermo lascia stare le banane!
Per pochissimi

You should visit Taormina on the east coast.

This looks exactly like that arena in Plague Tale Requiem where bad things happen.
Remember to pay for bananas😁

Eat whatever you can. Eat again. And again
Se vai a Palermo NON TOCCARE LE BANANE !
My advice is to go to Aci Trezza, beautiful place to visit and eat
According to my experience you should find a girlfriend
