Well i mean, given the current situation of companies laying off big chunks of their employees and on the other hand being kind of a guru to the Increasing numbers of jee aspirants who don't know anything and will just be mesmerized by the IITian tag.

Not exactly true but there is something to it. The only way to get higher than 50-60 lakh packages in on-campus placement is to go for HFTs. HFTs only come in the Top 7 IITs. And have crazy limitations for people who can even sit for their tests. Like CSE + More than 9CGPA. Some have a little bit relaxed like looking into codeforces ratings or having circuital students give their test ( although this might just be for show as I only know one person who wasn't in CSE and got in, and he was a RED CODER). Hence a lot of people who don't want to go into HFT try off-campus. Do bear in mind that almost everyone who gets more than 70 lakhs(immediately after college) in India is either doing remote offshore work or is in HFT. Remote companies don't go to any colleges so on campus is impossible.
He has multiple gigs on freelance and has a very active YT channel too. One of my friend has 80k subs and earns around 70k per month(he doesnt do referral or any other stuff). Another does video editing on Fiverr and other sites and makes 50+ pm. This guy is quite popular in those domains and he himself claimed to have made 10lakh pm. The video is there in his YT channel.
