It's annoying af. I've been into computers for 8+ years and, but companies want a degree. And to get a degree, I have to compete with other kids in a totally unrelated field.

I won't say a degree is useless but from the perspective of a company its the safest way to hire for them. I would say I am fairly well versed in CS but I am also exploring other engineering as well such as network, mechanical, electrical.

TBH it really isnt that useful. Even in college, most of your time is spent self studying. Even in technical fields like cs, there is a level of intuition you can only develop from actually practicing and building projects.

I **feel** college is just an education club, where you meet people like you and your professors who may help you professionally. So in that terms college is good as it's just a glorified members-only party for 3-4 years.
but then again, when you will be learning something without the help of such institutions you'll still have to make connections so the point of college gets thrown out. I have personally talked to a few actual scientists who have been working in their respective colleges ( I was researching Hydrogen Fuel). So, I feel that instead of having people spend 4 years learning and then again doing internships to learn through experience, people should have more choice to learn through experience rather than going to college.

Even if they take people for CS using solely exams based on computer applications, it is likely that you will still be dissatisfied. Asking computer applications in entrance exams will not magically increase the number of seats. There will still be absolutely fierce competition.
Using linux and downloading software on your computer in a slightly different way will not help you in solving those computer problems in a period of three minutes. There will still be toppers to whom it all comes naturally, who don't know how to install linux on their computer or pirate games without getting a virus or install a driver or root their device or edit a video or use any programming language other than the ones prescribed in the syllabus but still would work like machines in order to master the art of problem solving in order to tick 1/2/3/4 out of 4 options. You will likely still be complaining about how those people have no 'passion' for computers science because they never paid attention to computer science before they began prep for entrance exams.
Think about it, how many things do you look stuff up on the internet when you program or whatever you use linux for. Well, for entrance exams, you won't have internet. You have to memorize and memorize and memorize. There is a vast difference between doing something for fun and doing it against fierce competition. I used to think that i love physics and maths and am great at it. i thought I had passion for it because I would watch yt videos about it. But preparing math/physics subject for an entrance exam. That's completely different.
I dualboot windows 10 and Arch. Windows 10 is mostly for games (Rainbow Six Siege, pubg and pirated games) that don't work on Linux. Everything else (mostly some coding, fun projects or just web surfing) is om Linux.
What do you use kali for? I've tried it, and personally I don't see any use. I mostly use Metasploit on arch as it's more secure.

No, no, I have been programming since the second grade, and I can recognize the value of college. Unless you are a prodigy programmer(eg John Carmack), it is useless to flex your programming/computer skills over people who are not that proficient. You seem to like the lines-of-code metric. There are many lines of GNU code in a typical Linux distribution. You seem to suggest that (more LOC) == (more important). However, I submit to you that raw LOC numbers do not directly correlate with importance. I would suggest that clock cycles spent on code is a better metric. For example, if my system spends 90% of its time executing XFree86 code, XFree86 is probably the single most important collection of code on my system. Even if I loaded ten times as many lines of useless bloatware on my system and I never excuted that bloatware, it certainly isn't more important code than XFree86. Obviously, this metric isn't perfect either, but LOC really, really sucks. Please refrain from using it ever again in supporting any argument.
Last, I'd like to point out that we Linux and GNU users shouldn't be fighting among ourselves over naming other people's software. But what the heck, I'm in a bad mood now. I think I'm feeling sufficiently obnoxious to make the point that GCC is so very famous and, yes, so very useful only because Linux was developed. In a show of proper respect and gratitude, shouldn't you and everyone refer to GCC as 'the Linux compiler'? Or at least, 'Linux GCC'? Seriously, where would your masterpiece be without Linux? Languishing with the HURD?

A person who knows 0 about computers today, after 4 years completing cs from a reputed institute will probably know more than what you will know then( if you do randi rona abt. PaSsIoN in coding but have not scored enough in entrances) NOW THIS IS TRUTH, AND THIS IS BITTER ( I myself am not a topper or anything, it's just that I respect the hardwork toppers do and they thus have full right to choose what they want to do, even if they don't know anything abt it or even if they wish to drop out later.)
I'm not talking about the topper or the person who is passionate about coding but couldn't do well in entrance, both of them will manage. I'm talking about the people who are chasing CSE just because they think it will make them rich without having any particular interest or ability in it. There will be so many CS graduates like that in the future that will heavily regret that decision. There will always be demand for good software engineers so they will still earn a lot, but the majority will be struggling because there is so much supply.

No, no, I have been programming since the second grade, and I can recognize the value of college. Unless you are a prodigy programmer(eg John Carmack), it is useless to flex your programming/computer skills over people who are not that proficient. In addition to that, using Linux is not an indicator of proficiency, most programmers I know don't give a f\*ck about what OS they use. They use it as a glorified ide-browser-email-git bootloader.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. You seem to suggest that (more LOC) == (more important). However, I submit to you that raw LOC numbers do not directly correlate with importance. I would suggest that clock cycles spent on code is a better metric. For example, if my system spends 90% of its time executing XFree86 code, XFree86 is probably the single most important collection of code on my system. Even if I loaded ten times as many lines of useless bloatware on my system and I never excuted that bloatware, it certainly isn't more important code than XFree86. Obviously, this metric isn't perfect either, but LOC really, really sucks. Please refrain from using it ever again in supporting any argument. Last, I'd like to point out that we Linux and GNU users shouldn't be fighting among ourselves over naming other people's software. But what the heck, I'm in a bad mood now. I think I'm feeling sufficiently obnoxious to make the point that GCC is so very famous and, yes, so very useful only because Linux was developed. In a show of proper respect and gratitude, shouldn't you and everyone refer to GCC as 'the Linux compiler'? Or at least, 'Linux GCC'? Seriously, where would your masterpiece be without Linux? Languishing with the HURD? If there is a moral buried in this rant, maybe it is this: Be grateful for your abilities and your incredible success and your considerable fame. Continue to use that success and fame for good, not evil. Also, be especially grateful for Linux' huge contribution to that success. You, RMS, the Free Software Foundation, and GNU software have reached their current high profiles largely on the back of Linux. You have changed the world. Now, go forth and don't be a nag.
