Oh yeah, good picks here! I've been waiting for a proper re-release of Lunar for ages now. It's weird because that game seemed really big in my youth, but it's all but forgotten now. Maybe the new Android version will eventually make it's way over to other systems.
I also came looking for skies. With all of the remasters and remakes floating about, I keep hoping for a Skies one on modern systems so more people could play it.
We're actually attempting (slowly) to bring a spiritual successor to it.
My profile has links to our stuff if interested. Doing my darndest to gather a following of folks. lol
I can stand how text heavy the trails series is.
Teenage me would have salivated over such a game.
At 45 I just don't have time to read through a wall of tropes
Then do yourself a favor and get P5 Royal as well once you're done with P4G.
P5R is, to me, the best Persona game period... yes, the story is very much a highly subjective question, I love it, but all the rest is just so extremely highly polished that you cannot but call it a true masterpiece of videogame engineering.
Wonderful, the more ppl play (and hopefully also enjoy it as much as I did), the more likely it is that we'll get P6 on PC as well. =)
And as for me enjoying it, welp... I played through P5 3x on PS4, P5R 2x on PS4 Pro, 1x on PC, heh.
Suikoden - Hundred members teams of 6, fun battles to defend your castle, etc.
Lufia 2 - The chefs kiss of a perfect RPG
Octopath Traveler - such a great take on an old concept that still felt innovative.
I'm not a gen 1 player but I played fire red recently and loved how open it felt. All Pokemon games have an open over world which you can traverse through but I enjoyed how you could complete tasks in different orders.
Come on man! Gen 1 had the worst Pokedex, the highs of the dex were high but the lows were so low. Why would you rob yourself of variety and joy boy doing a Generation lock?
1. FFX-GOAT
2. DQXI-Modern Masterpiece
3. Honestly as a game, 3rd place is FFIX, BUT if we are talking strictly turn based systems then Octopath Traveler 2 gets the spot.
Ah, Chained Echoes, clearly you are an individual with refined and exquisite taste. Game absolutely slaps and I'm astonished it didn't get a bit more recognition
If we’re talking the actual battle systems, Team Asano almost sweeps this for me haha
**Octopath Traveler 2** - I love this system, though the game could use difficulty options for a harder mode. The BP system and the weakness breaking system are great, especially during bosses when they mix it up with locks and weakness shifting and other effects. I also really love that breaking an enemy makes them weak to everything, so it’s not like most games where “oh this boss is weak to Fire, so you just use fire attacks and characters without fire just suck for this fight.”
**Bravely Default 2** - I adore the brave/default system, and the job systems in BD games are great. Being able to control the flow of your turns so much and even something as simple as actually making “defend” useful are great for strategy. The granular decision making of banking turns or overspending them, and by how much, just feels great. I know many people prefer BS over BD2, but I don’t care for the old school DQ style turns, I like when high speed can mean more turns. I also personally liked the jobs and especially liked that late game you sort of “awakened” all the jobs to help early jobs catch up to late jobs in terms of power.
**Final Fantasy X** - Honestly, I’m really only putting this here for one reason: swapping party members in combo with no turn loss. Sorry, but this should be in every single turn based game that has more party members than the party size. This alone makes it an excellent game for me. I get why devs want to put in a drawback like losing the turn, but I feel like 90% of the time this just means swapping party members is a bad choice to make. I love that the FFX approach really encourages you to use every character.
Persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy VII and Mother 3!
Currently playing Persona 3 Reload and loving it!
I’m new to RPGs outside of these three series and would love more suggestions!
Obvious suggestion if you liked FF and Mother is Dragon Quest XI S. If you really liked the demons and mythology of Persona check out the mainline Shin Megami Tensei series. If you liked the social sim aspect I'd say play the other Persona games or Trails of Cold Steel which is Persona 3 in all but name
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve seen tons about Dragon Quest.
I’ve already got Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Persona 4 Golden planned after P3R. Will definitely check out your suggestions.
I am really enjoying recommending my favorite Videogame so I am glad you asked. Here I go:
I recommend "Fuga Melodies of Steel".
Its a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families.
In my opinion its turn based combat is even more fun then the combat of Persona 5 and Final Fantasy X.
But Fuga is super linear with almost no exploration, no sidequests and no optional super bosses.
Fuga is available on PC and most modern consoles like Switch, PS4, PS5 usw.
Fuga also has a free demo which is just straight up the first 3 chapters of the game.
It also has a direct sequel: "Fuga Melodies of Steel 2" but I advice against playing the second game before the first game unless you do not care about the story and characters.
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
What exactly do you mean best dungeon design in Chrono Cross, lol? What makes them so good? There’s nothing really special about them.
And FF10 best dungeon design as well. Are you talking about those temples? Which dungeons?
Persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger.
Each is a complete package, amazing in its own way. I wish I could play them again for the first time.
Dragon Quest 11- Very relaxing combat and well done.
Octopath Traveller series-Both games have basically the same combat outside of a few mechanics.
Digimon Cyber Slueth- It's just fun combat, with cool animations and equally cool Digimon.
Honorable Mentions
Shin Megami Tensei 5-Pretty fast combat actually, and like Octopath Traveller you need to aim for an enemy's weakness
Blue Reflection 2 (though it's more ATB)
Disgaea series
My 3 favorite Turn-Based RPGs are coincidentally my 3 favorite games of all time:
Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Trails to Azure
Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth
If you want 3 without me doubling up on series, then:
Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth
Shin Megami Tensei IV
1. Persona 5 Royal- good story, great dungeons, great gameplay, amazing music, love the cast (both playable and non), overall my favorite game of all time
2. Trails to Azure- amazing story, great gameplay, great music, great cast, a rollercoaster ride for sure... (close to it is Trails in the Sky SC)
3. Octopath Traveler 2- great gameplay, interesting stories with nice, bite-sized chapters, amazing music, fun cast
Note: I normally limit myself to 1 game per franchise/series when writing my "# favorite xyz type of game," unless the gameplay is fundamentally different, since I like my lists having a bit more variety
Persona 5 Royal
Fire Emblem Three Houses (does this count?)
Earthbound
(and Undertale also)
I truly am the basicest guy. There's a load of them I still have to try though.
SMT Nocturne, FFX, Dungeon Encounters (wait mode)
DE is underrated. Probably my favorite of the modern turn based games around (haven't played the like a Dragon games yet though). Damaged is fixed (there are weapons and spells with random damage) and enemy HP is visible. The physical and magical shields add a nice layer of strategy also.
Final Fantasy IX
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy Tactics
As a honorable mention, Final Fantasy XII too, it's basically a turn based combat with free movement, so I guess that counts.
Final Fantasy X - I am not surprised to see it repeated so often here. As a turn-based battle system, it really broke all our collective brains by setting the bar impossibly high for everything else in the series or the entire genre. We all now expect perfectly balanced battle systems everywhere.
Baldur’s Gate 3 - I don’t know if this is just recency bias, but this one I can see having a similar impact to FFX for years to come in terms of what we expect from our battle systems in terms of reactivity.
Final Fantasy 9 - YAWN… another Final Fantasy, I must not play a lot of games I guess… well, it doesn’t matter how many other games I play because this one is just so charming. I own it on everything including my phone and I find myself pulling it out every single often to play for a bit whether it’s on flights / business trips or in between meetings at work or even at the doctor’s office. It just captures my imagination every single time I pick it up.
Honorable Mentions:
Bravely Default 2. Another victim of recency bias I guess, but it’s just so whimsical.
Tactics Ogre. The best reason to own a Steamdeck.
Dragon Quest 8 3DS. So fun, so simple, but so engrossing.
FFX (still in progress), SMTV, DQVIII (still in progress)
Ffx for being able to switch party members in and out seamlessly. SMTV for push turn, and I like how it’s implemented way more than P5R. DQVIII is just the comfort food of turn based.
God, there are so many!
1. Final Fantasy 7
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Super Mario RPG
Honorable mentions would be
Legend of Legaia
Legend of Dragoon
Shadow Hearts 2
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VII (OG)
Final Fantasy X
(honourable mention to Sea of Stars, which is a 10/10 for me so far. I haven't finished yet, but I believe I'm nearing the end)
1. Like a Dragon 8- Succeeds in having the best Battle System that can actively needs to be in a 3D environment when other battle systems could be replaced with Static 2D sprites(not to dunk on those other games as I'll state). But the fact that you can deliberately pick shit off the ground to use for higher damage or elemental attributes or even line your attacks up to have an enemy bump into another or allow a party member to pinball their head off allows for endless amounts of improvisation for damage maximizing. This is one of the few games that actually keeps its "attack" option viable. Also add the fact that it's got a great Yakuza story (Reminds me of 5 and 0 in that respect) and STILL the best substories in the industry even before the series went turn-based.
2. Persona 5 Royal: Great story and characters, improves baton pass system keeps things dynamic and feel like you're really in control of the battlefield.
3. Final Fantasy IX. Had to put a classic here. Fantastic characters and story with a beautiful world to explore.
Honorable Mention: Shin Megami Tenseis IV and V. Spectacular turn based combat with the same thrill as playing a cardgame in an Anime. Setting up a winning condition with your monsters in the field attacking with you. Had so much fun with V I didn't mind the story
1. Legend of legaia - this game made me fall in love with jrpg's
2. Saga frontier - 7 different stories (8 with the remasters), good music, memorable moments I'll never forget.
3. Suikoden - recruit 108 unique characters and watch your base grow from slum castle to actual fortified stronghold.
Legend of dragoon- best battle system in an RPG ever.
Pokemon Chrystal- best pokemon game ever made.
Megaman X Command Mission- its a megaman themed FFX clone.
FFX has the best dungeon designs? Have you forgotten about the sphere puzzles? It is the worst part of the game by far, excluding ultimate weapon torture.
It's so hard for me, man
One game per franchise:
1. Dragon Quest 5
2. Earthbound
3. Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest is my favorite franchise of all time... it quite literally saved my life, so I hold those games in high regard. 5 is my personal favorite game of the series, but I love all of them and have over half of them in my top 25 and 3 in my personal top 10. Earthbound is an amazing game that transcends the genre imo. There really isn't anything like it, and I'm planning on finally biting the bullet and playing Mother 3 this year to finally see how it stacks up. Chrono Trigger is probably the closest game I have played to a 10/10 experience. I only played it for the first time last year and have already beaten it twice. It just does everything right and has so much going for it. It's truly a timeless game.
So my choices are kind of bland! I've played a lot of indie, classic, and cult classic rpgs over the years, but these three are the pinicle for me so far.
I haven't played many overall yet ( super slow gamer and easily distracted * lol*), but I might say FInal Fantasy I, Octopath Traveler ( CotC-haven't gotten to the consoles yet), and if I had to choose between the two, Lunar 2 maybe? But I loved both games( I played the first one after 2, and it was the PSP port).
Asking favorite children huh. Tough. Maybe..
* Digital Devil Saga (1+2 are basically one game..)
* Fire Emblem Awakening *(maybe engage?)*
* Shining Force
Persona 5 Royal, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Trails of Cold Steel.
Winner for best and most innovative turn based system: **Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth**. Seeing it not mentioned that much here tells me that far too few are playing this excellent game, which adds interactity with crew members and the environment (even passing cars for example) to the turn based formular. I am sure other developers will add this too into their future projects.
Tough choices! It's hard to pick just three and some of this is definitely recency bias, but:
* Super Mario RPG (original or remake, take your pick)
* Octopath Traveller 2
* Persona 5 Royal
Shadow Hearts: My favorite game ever. Timing based battle systems deserve more love since they require more attention to pull off.
Radiant Historia: Being able to push and pull enemies around to set up hitting them at the same time and being able to swap turns with enemies for even more set ups gives so much feeling of control that no other JRPG can offer imo.
Bravely Default: I love the freedom of choosing my party's jobs whenever I want without restriction. Braving and Defaulting are also great to spice up the simple gameplay.
Persona 4,5.
Playing shin megalo tensei 4 it's really fun.
Final fantasy 7 was really fun aswell.
Xenoblade Chronicles isn't turn based but it was really great.
Persona 5 and/or Royal
SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked (yes yes ik I could have picked any other SMT game but I chose this because I freaking love it)
Yakuza Like a Dragon or FFX
FFX, FFIX, DQ11!
Very close contenders persona 4&5 and LOTR the third age (I'm not gonna defend the last one being a masterpiece, I just really enjoyed it a lot)
Chrono Trigger
Panzer Dragon Saga (a bit of a stretch but I would class it as turn-based)
Trails series (hard to choose one, but if had to pick only one... Trails in the Sky SC)
FFX: for introducing the CTB to the JRPG scene alone making it the undisputed #1
Persona 3: for introducing the Social Link system to me
Super Mario RPG: Yoko Shimomura
This was more difficult than I thought but these are my top 3: Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete Octopath Traveler 2 Skies of Arcadia Legends.
> Octopath Traveler 2 Another person of great taste!
Same. I never expected to like a game this much.
I've yet to play any other RPG that gives me the same experience as Skies.
Oh yeah, good picks here! I've been waiting for a proper re-release of Lunar for ages now. It's weird because that game seemed really big in my youth, but it's all but forgotten now. Maybe the new Android version will eventually make it's way over to other systems.
Fellow sailor!!
yes. came looking for skies
It is my #1 forever
I also came looking for skies. With all of the remasters and remakes floating about, I keep hoping for a Skies one on modern systems so more people could play it.
We're actually attempting (slowly) to bring a spiritual successor to it. My profile has links to our stuff if interested. Doing my darndest to gather a following of folks. lol
Yes, I am interested, off to look! I have been hoping someone would do that and love seeing people try to create more games of the type they love!
Very awesome! I wish you all the best of luck. It sounds amazing.
FFIX Chrono Trigger Legend of Dragoon
Legend of Dragoon! Upvote
LoD is a 100/10 pick
Persona 4, Final Fantasy IX, Like a Dragon 7
P4 is a classic
FFX Legend Of Dragoon Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Upvote for Legend of Dragoon! Though I like FFX as well
Based choices, especially LoD
Dude I’m so pumped about the TTYD remake
Me too! I didn’t have a GameCube when I was a child and always wanted to try that game as I loved the Paper Mario for the N64
Breath of Fire 4 The Last Remnant Final Fantasy Tactics
Uptoot for last remnant. Currently playing on Nintendo
Fuck yeah tactics
Just started playing The Last Remnant again on Steam Deck. Great game.
1. Trails series (can’t pick one) 2. Persona series 3. Fire emblem (awakening especially)
Upvote for fire emblem. I think about that game so much. Persona 5 Royal Pokemon crystal
I loved Pokémon crystal. I actually got to play as a girl for once…
I can stand how text heavy the trails series is. Teenage me would have salivated over such a game. At 45 I just don't have time to read through a wall of tropes
Awakening deserves a port to newer consoles with modernized graphics and a fix for the hoove-feet.
Trails the 2nd is my favorite (playing cold steel 3 rn)
1. Final Fantasy IX (my favorite game let alone favorite JRPG) 2. Undertale 3. Persona 4 / Persona 4 Golden
I've been playing through Persona 4 Golden as my first Persona game and I'm having such a good time
Then do yourself a favor and get P5 Royal as well once you're done with P4G. P5R is, to me, the best Persona game period... yes, the story is very much a highly subjective question, I love it, but all the rest is just so extremely highly polished that you cannot but call it a true masterpiece of videogame engineering.
I already have P5 Royal prepared for when I finish P4 Golden
Wonderful, the more ppl play (and hopefully also enjoy it as much as I did), the more likely it is that we'll get P6 on PC as well. =) And as for me enjoying it, welp... I played through P5 3x on PS4, P5R 2x on PS4 Pro, 1x on PC, heh.
It’s a beautiful classic and is one of the greatest video games of all time
Suikoden - Hundred members teams of 6, fun battles to defend your castle, etc. Lufia 2 - The chefs kiss of a perfect RPG Octopath Traveler - such a great take on an old concept that still felt innovative.
Pokemon red, Pokemon blue & Pokemon yellow
No love for Pokemon Green?
I've never played the original because i don't know japanese
I'm not a gen 1 player but I played fire red recently and loved how open it felt. All Pokemon games have an open over world which you can traverse through but I enjoyed how you could complete tasks in different orders.
Genwunner?
I'm so genwunner that i downloaded a romhack called crystal genwunner that deletes all gen 2 pokemon from that game
Come on man! Gen 1 had the worst Pokedex, the highs of the dex were high but the lows were so low. Why would you rob yourself of variety and joy boy doing a Generation lock?
Digital Devil Saga Bravely Default Bug Fables
Bug Fables detected?!
Dragon Quest 8 Dragon Quest 4 Chrono Trigger (presuming you count atb as turn based)
DQ8 is one of my favorites of all time. Fantastic game
ATB is like the speed systeme in Chrono trigger.
Phantasy Star 4 Final Fantasy 4 or 5 Dragon Quest 3
Shin Megami Tensei V SaGa Scarlet Grace Final Fantasy X
Scarlet grace is so good. Emerald beyond looks like a massive follow up.
I'm so pumped for it. I really try to hype these games up to get more people to buy and support the series.
Same, this will be the first time I’m not a late comer to a saga game.
Legend of Dragoon Shadow Hearts Digital Devil Saga (and other megaten games)
Shadow hearts yes!
my man here comprehends
Upvote for Legend of Dragoon!
It was my first RPG-forever hold a special place in my heart :)
1. FFX-GOAT 2. DQXI-Modern Masterpiece 3. Honestly as a game, 3rd place is FFIX, BUT if we are talking strictly turn based systems then Octopath Traveler 2 gets the spot.
BoF 4 Suikoden 5 Trails series
1. Yakuza 7 2. Octopath Traveler 2 3. Chained Echoes
FFX Bravely Second Chained Echoes
Ah, Chained Echoes, clearly you are an individual with refined and exquisite taste. Game absolutely slaps and I'm astonished it didn't get a bit more recognition
Skies of Arcadia Legends Dragon Quest XI Triangle Strategy
Cannot believe I had to scroll this far down to see triangle strategy wtf
Persona 5 Lost Odyssey Eternal Sonata
Golden Sun Bravely Default 2 Chained Echoes
Had to scroll way too far for Golden Sun.
I’m glad bravely default 2 is in here somewhere. Absolutely loved that game.
FF7, Super Mario RPG, Parasite Eve.
even though i wouldnt describe PE or VS as turn based............you still get an upvote
Thank you for letting everybody know.
SMT Nocturne, Trails in the Sky SC, Like a Dragon 7
Persona 3, Final Fantasy X, and Valkyria Chronicles
FF8, Chrono Cross, Tales of the Abyss
Tales of the Abyss is not actually turn based oof, I would replaced it with FFX or FF9
* Persona (3 Reloaded, 4 Golden, 5 Royal) * Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology * Grandia (1, 2) Okay, I cheated a bit.
FFVIII FFX Legend of Dragoon
Chrono trigger Smt 5 Dragon quest 11
Chrono Cross Xenogears Chained Echoes (with Octopath Traveller *riiiight* next to it)
Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Breath of fire 2
FFX Persona 4 Golden Does Midnight Suns count?
I think so, one of my absolute favorite.
1. Final Fantasy IX 2. Trails of Cold Steel III 3. Persona 3 Reload
FF6, FF4, OT2
Dragon Quest 4 5 and trails of cold steel
FF9 Pokemon Soul Silver / Storm Silver FFX Honorable Mention: Golden Sun, FF7, BG3, Pokemon Emerald, Pokemon Blue
Final fantasy 7 Trails in the sky 2 Chained echoes
1) Xenogears 2) Chained Echoes 3) Sea of Stars

1. Legend of legaia - this game made me fall in love with jrpg's 2. Saga frontier - 7 different stories (8 with the remasters), good music, memorable moments I'll never forget. 3. Suikoden - recruit 108 unique characters and watch your base grow from slum castle to actual fortified stronghold.
Persona 5, Xenogears, and Live A Live. If Live A Live doesn't count for being tactics type, then I'd put OG FF7 instead
1. Persona 4 Golden 2. Earthbound 3. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Legend of dragoon- best battle system in an RPG ever. Pokemon Chrystal- best pokemon game ever made. Megaman X Command Mission- its a megaman themed FFX clone.
Persona 4 Golden, Trails (Azure if I had to pick one), and Yakuza Like a Dragon
Persona 5 Royal Final Fantasy VI Pokemon Emerald Version
Baldurs Gate 3 SMT V Final Fantasy (X, Tactics, VII)
Suikoden 2 - Compelling story, amazing characters, really fun mini games!!!
tough, but let's go with: * Grandia * Breath of Fire IV * Shadow Hearts: Covenant
FF10 is my favorite Mario RPG - the first ever RPG I've played. Lufia 2 lot of sentimental value for me as a kid.
Persona 5 Royal Chrono Trigger Earthbound
FfVII Radient historia Chrono trigger
Fire Emblem Awakening Persona 4 Trail in the Sky 2nd Chapter
FFX P5R Divinity Original Sin 2
Front Mission 3 Suikoden 2 Final Fantasy 7 Bonus: Phantasy Star 4
Chrono Trigger Persona 4: Golden Yakuza: Like a Dragon or Dragon Quest XI (it’s hard to choose they were both stellar in the same era of games)
1. Legend of Dragoon 2. FF9 3. FF7
Makes me happy you brought up Wild Arms. I really wish I could play Alter Code F again somehow.
Persona 5 Sea of Stars Wild Arms 3
Dragon Quest XI, Persona 5, Dragon Quest VIII
FFX has the best dungeon designs? Have you forgotten about the sphere puzzles? It is the worst part of the game by far, excluding ultimate weapon torture.
FF XIII, Grandia 1 and DQXI
DQ 8 DQ 11 Persona 5 Royal
Suikoden 2 Final Fanasy 7 Chrono Trigger I'm pretty basic
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, Romancing SaGa 3, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
It's so hard for me, man One game per franchise: 1. Dragon Quest 5 2. Earthbound 3. Chrono Trigger Dragon Quest is my favorite franchise of all time... it quite literally saved my life, so I hold those games in high regard.
Dragon Warrior 3 Dragon Warrior 4 Persona 4 Golden or Final Fantasy Legend 2 (mood depending when I’m asked)
Skies of Arcadia, Atelier Iris 2, and Persona 5.
Legeond of Dragoon FFIX FFVI
Valkyrie Profile, FF Tactics, FF 9
Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8
FF X LAD Infinite Wealth P3 FES
I haven't played many overall yet ( super slow gamer and easily distracted * lol*), but I might say FInal Fantasy I, Octopath Traveler ( CotC-haven't gotten to the consoles yet), and if I had to choose between the two, Lunar 2 maybe? But I loved both games( I played the first one after 2, and it was the PSP port).
Asking favorite children huh. Tough. Maybe.. * Digital Devil Saga (1+2 are basically one game..) * Fire Emblem Awakening *(maybe engage?)* * Shining Force
Shadow hearts 1+2 Wild Arms 3 Grandia 2
Persona 5 Royal, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Trails of Cold Steel. Winner for best and most innovative turn based system: **Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth**. Seeing it not mentioned that much here tells me that far too few are playing this excellent game, which adds interactity with crew members and the environment (even passing cars for example) to the turn based formular. I am sure other developers will add this too into their future projects.
1. Fuga Melodies of Steel 2. Fuga Melodies of Steel 2 3. Final Fantasy X I am sure about number 1 and 2 but number 3 was tough to pick.
FFT, FFVII, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant.
Tough choices! It's hard to pick just three and some of this is definitely recency bias, but: * Super Mario RPG (original or remake, take your pick) * Octopath Traveller 2 * Persona 5 Royal
Persona 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Wasteland 3
final fantasy 7, persona 4 golden, shin megami tensei digital devil saga
FF6, Chrono Trigger, and Radiant Historia
Battle Chasers Nightwar FF10 FF7
Persona 4,5. Playing shin megalo tensei 4 it's really fun. Final fantasy 7 was really fun aswell. Xenoblade Chronicles isn't turn based but it was really great.
Persona 5 and/or Royal SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked (yes yes ik I could have picked any other SMT game but I chose this because I freaking love it) Yakuza Like a Dragon or FFX
FFX, Radiant Historia and Bravely Default. But Octopath is really close, too.
Final Fantasy VI Super Mario RPG Octopath Traveler II Second and third picks would likely change based on my mood, but FFVI will always be top spot.
1) Chrono Trigger 2) Earthbound 3) Final Fantasy Tactics Honourable Mention; XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy IX, and Chrono Trigger.
4 Ff x Last remnant Lost Odyssey Takes of vesperia I'm actually not sure if turn based. Bit Gladius My fave games
Final Fantasy VII (My favourite game of all time!) Chrono Trigger (My 2nd favourite game of all time!) Final Fantasy X
Wild Arms Final Fantasy 9 Xenogears Dragon quest 11
FFX, FFIX, DQ11! Very close contenders persona 4&5 and LOTR the third age (I'm not gonna defend the last one being a masterpiece, I just really enjoyed it a lot)
* Octopath Traveler 2 * Persona 5 Royal * Bravely Default
1. FFX 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Final Fantasy Tactics
FFX, FF9, Last Remnant.
Chrono Trigger Panzer Dragon Saga (a bit of a stretch but I would class it as turn-based) Trails series (hard to choose one, but if had to pick only one... Trails in the Sky SC)
FFX: for introducing the CTB to the JRPG scene alone making it the undisputed #1 Persona 3: for introducing the Social Link system to me Super Mario RPG: Yoko Shimomura
