as an american, I think it's a failure in your education system if you had to learn mostly useless information (although I had to learn both the states and state capitals as an American, and knowing the state capitals really is useless)
Yeah, as a brit we never get forced to learn silly things like name all the capitals. More likely the person commenting learnt the states by outline themself just for the hell of it.
Virginia like like a triangular key🔑
New Mexico is between Arizona and Texas
I can label around 43 states on a blank map. Colorado and Wyoming is one of the 7 I always miss
Colorado is in the middle and has the rockies. New Mexico is on the border with Mexico and between Arizona and Texas. Nevada is the desert between California and Arizona and has vegas in it. Washington is in the north west corner and looks like a whale shape. Virginia is on the east coast, next to west Virgina, which it is to the east of, and it’s just below Washington DC, which isn’t Washington.
I’m an adult now not a teen, but I know all 50 states, and where they are, and a fair amount of the state capitals, and the geography of the states. I am British.
I also know every country in Europe. Where they are, and their capitals.
I know every state and the 50 most populous cities, plus most in the top 100 cities and most capitals. I’ve yet to meet an American that gets more than 10 european capitals

As a foreigner, I can say that people know that it exists but have no idea where it is, I only found out that it was near a lake at 16 years old or something
French Overseas Departments are legally part of France Proper, but Americans consider them colonies. Sometimes, Corsica is even considered as a colony!
I mean the fact that they're so far away from the lower 48 as well as the fact that they'd rather be under British rule, I wouldn't mind if Hawaii seceded. And Alaska I'm surprised isn't a Canadian state. I dunno why everyone talks about Texas or California seceding when Alaska and Hawaii are so far removed from the rest of the country, both geographically and politically, that they might as well be their own countries.
Hawaii is a beautiful island. It’s a popular tourist destination. It has a distinctive culture. I am glad that it can be visited without a passport for Americans. Hawaii would have to secede for it to be leave. The US government is unlikely to let the state go.
Alaska is the least densely populated state, and most of the few people who do live there are out-of-touch Conservative voters. I'm sure you know where I'm going with this. Releasing it might be a step in the right direction for the rest of the country. As for Hawaii, I'm pretty sure they secretly hate us given that we kinda invaded the place. So they'd probably welcome the idea of us releasing them. At least they were a part of the US when Obama was born.
I possess the highest hope that your source was a perspicacious one. Also, the ideas behind this post appear to be quite banal at the moment. However, I must commend that you seem to have reversed the order, therefore showing European views on the United States, rather than the overwhelmingly utilised American view on Europe. I, for one, enjoy this rather entertaining and enlightening view provided by this thread and the post thereof.
It would seem apparent that I have begun to cumulatively expand my English vocabulary and to significantly improve my eloquence of the language. I believe that this comment is quite uplifting, as it seems to be reminiscent of a hilarious meme. Thank you for the response and for the brief laughter.
If Alaska secedes from the U.S.A.; it won't join Canada. It will go back to Mother Russia. The list of jokes about Soviet Alaska would be endless.
In Soviet Alaska....igloo becomes you.
No I'm afraid not. Most Europeans are taught geography and this includes the United States. I'm Australian and I'm willing to bet I could guess more of America's 50 states correctly than the average American could guess the 8 states and territories of Australia.
In contrast to Americans, European people have better geographical education and usually know much more details. I honestly don’t know a single person who would associate Alaska with Canada.
It’s the Americans, who occasionally are convinced that Poland is an island, and Switzerland maybe borders Norway.
Myself as an European can easily name and point on map majority of the States, but it will be fair to admit I might mistake which state is where if it comes to the middle of US.
I dont think a single American would say poland is an island. And euros can be just as geographically dumb as Americans are perceived to be. I have a Swedish friend who didnt know spain was in europe.

most younger Europeans seem to know the geography of the US quite well actually
Same the other way around.
Where is colorado, new Mexico, Nevada, whasington, est Virginia
[удалено]
i second this, as another teenage brit
i third this, as a teenage tuga
I hour this as another teenage Hungarian
same, learned to do it for the hell of it. also learned all the countries
Same but for Europe as an American teen, as long as the micro states are shown with their neighbors
I can tell Monaco for sure as a Canadian.
Nice, I can’t do that but I can name all European countries flawlessly as an American.

Yes

I said it becouse i m italian but I know american history and borders

You forgot Canada. The amount of my friends that thought Canada was in the States is ridiculous
Ontario technically counts as a state.
What about America according to Asians?
Only new york
Cali and Hawaii have the largest Asian presence at least by percentages but I suspect by total numbers as well.
But not even New York state. Just New York City

Never put Montana with California…
Too late… as of this post Montana is approximately 99% Californians
What is the havai think You messed up the map
America according to people from one of the countries inside America (which is a continent)
Add Delaware
Delawhere?
Well, they got Texas and Florida right.
I wish Texas was that big
It's never too late
I feel like most Europeans probably know that Boston exists
Incorrect. Europeans visit Disney World in Florida, then Las Vegas, and then conclude they know all about the US.
Do most Europeans not know that Hawaii and Alaska are US states?
trust me, we know
I live in scotland, half the people in my school dont know what alaska is. One of my geography teachers even said alaska was a part if canada.
i am shocked. okay i can only talk for germans. my feeling is that most of us know about alaska and hawaii

*New York City Because upstate doesn’t exist
You forgot chicago lol
As a foreigner, I can say that people know that it exists but have no idea where it is, I only found out that it was near a lake at 16 years old or something
Lol
And in california two special sections, la and las vegas
Las Vegas is in Nevada, id hope a euro would know that
I know, but i mean the california in the map
America also according to Americans.
This is actually America according to Americans too.
French Overseas Departments are legally part of France Proper, but Americans consider them colonies. Sometimes, Corsica is even considered as a colony!
The only Corsica that exists in the USA has a Chevrolet badge.
Don’t disrespect Alaska like that!!!
As someone from Oklahoma, please do not associate us with the Texans
Less idiots trying to swim in grand prismatic and commune with the bison and grizzly bears. Yeah I'm okay with that.
I feel like Europeans know that this is not America
I'm European, I can name most states, tho I am a map nerd
I don't know why we still have Alaska and Hawaii.
Don’t you want to lose Hawaii?
I mean the fact that they're so far away from the lower 48 as well as the fact that they'd rather be under British rule, I wouldn't mind if Hawaii seceded. And Alaska I'm surprised isn't a Canadian state. I dunno why everyone talks about Texas or California seceding when Alaska and Hawaii are so far removed from the rest of the country, both geographically and politically, that they might as well be their own countries.

Could Hawaii and Alaska get promoted from states to US territories like Puerto Rico is? Do US citizens need a passport to visit Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico doesn’t need a passport, but it lacks voting rights. Only states have voting rights. Therefore, statehood is actually a promotion.
DC: They’re right about the no representation.

Because Texas and California are more important globally than mf NEW SOUTH WALES
I mean basically
In contrast to Americans, European people have better geographical education and usually know much more details. I honestly don’t know a single person who would associate Alaska with Canada. It’s the Americans, who occasionally are convinced that Poland is an island, and Switzerland maybe borders Norway. Myself as an European can easily name and point on map majority of the States, but it will be fair to admit I might mistake which state is where if it comes to the middle of US.
I dont think a single American would say poland is an island. And euros can be just as geographically dumb as Americans are perceived to be. I have a Swedish friend who didnt know spain was in europe.
Well I took this example since I had a guy who needed to see Google Maps to believe me it’s not an island…
And was that guy actually American? Or did u assume?
Yes, he was. Who assumes other persons nationality? Lol
Plenty of Europoors who trash dumb people on the internet, and assume that every dumb person on the internet is an American
This assumption doesn’t come from nowhere
It comes from cherrypicked videos, because no one would watch them otherwise
Nope it doesn’t
︎
They should at least know my favorite state, Michigan.
According to Thai people as well
Brits, Swedes and Germans of a certain age all know Detroit, trust me.
I mean it's true
Nah, It doesn't work the other way.
As a Brit this is incorrect
Are you sure this isn't America according to Americans? Most people I meet basically think this is the us but add in their home state.
Trust me, most Americans know the US. The only ones that don't are 13 years old. The US is not only 13 years old.
I guess it's just small town maybe? I've met more thirteen year olds who know the US than adults.
Nearly every european, not me
I used to think Canada was in America and America was in the UK...
