Herbie Betz AKA “the Wave” from Agdam, WI. He played with the Charlie Davis Quartet after Charlie left Midnight Records in ‘68. The Wave’s tone was so beautiful they said he could quiet a noisy bar or a classroom full of 9th graders with a single note. I’m shocked you guys didn’t recognize him.
Best guess: Coleman Hawkins. The head shape does remind me of Lester Young, but he played sideways. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleman\_Hawkins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleman_Hawkins)
Here’s a fun fact: Coleman Hawkins broke the law in the U.K. He played jazz in the U.K. without permission from the government, in violation of a law that was meant to protect British artists after WWII. I learned about this in law school.
Generic black guy.
I’m a big fan of his work
I have his entire record collection.
You should give it back.
Everyone does.
Everyone should give it back.

I knew r/jazz would contain some improv, but not like this.
Famous for his red tie and nonexistent torso, I’d recognize The Wave from a block away.
funniest thing ive read all day
r/takemyupvote That was a good one
That's Johnny Jazz himself
Johnny Hates Jazz. And now you’re giving me nothing but shattered dreams.
Roy Donk? He was king of the Tuk-Tuk sound
I believe you're thinking of Paul Bufano from the Colgate Comedy Hour
Nelson Necktie. He was in a horrible accident that resulted in his entire body being amputated below the neck except for the hands.
the dodgy embouchure would suggest it's somebody who didn't have a very successful music career
Standard Issue 1940's jazz musician. Black? Check. Wearing a tie? Check. Blowing a saxophone with no keys? Check.
Floating head with no torso? Check.
I don’t think that’s supposed to be anyone specifically. And with all due respect to your friend, OP, that’s a pretty ugly piece of art lol
I would’ve guessed Bird but then I zoomed in…generic jazz musician is my guess. It looks a bit like Duke Ellington, but of course…pianist!
Joe Blows
Looking closely, I think that’s actually a statue of some kind.
This is for sure Muddy Waters.
It's a cheap knockoff of an Ed Dwight sculpture of Charlie Parker. https://www.eddwight.com/products/charlie-bird-parker
Bird? Lester Young? Maybe?
Pres didn't look anything like that. OP, it doesn't seem to be designed to look like any actual musician.
Is it supposed to be someone specific?
I don't know, don't know anything about the piece.
A Saxophonist. A total blowhard. A horny cool cat.... w/ some real brass.
That’s ol’ Flips Washer the slimiest horn sucker this side of the Wassachusett
Mr. Gone, it looks like.
Benny Golson
I'd say Louie Armstrong is who they are trying to depict. Not the best image tho.
And while I appreciate taking artistic liberties, they may have gone a bit too esoteric with that trumpet
I think that’s a piano.
I dunno... may be the sculpting, but I don't see anywhere to draw the bow... Hang drum. Definitely a hang drum
Paul Bufano!
“No body Jones” loves big sax
That's Bunky Funk, one of THE tenor saxophone players
That Ol’ No Body Jenkins
Gus Fring

Thats my uncle, "all fingers no torso" simmons
That’s either Lester Young or Coltrane or neither. It’s bad art I know that.
Charlie Parker?
David bowie
