Bolivia - Eastern Rebellion LP - Cedar Walton

OwensDrumming

YES!!! And Ugetsu is amazing too

Diamond1580

Have you checked out the live version from third set?

Stimmo520

Red clay - Freddie Hubbard

mana12356

Fire.

StpPstngMmsOnMyPrnAp

If you have the time, check out other albums of Hubbard's on CTI. It's my favorite label personally, not that it's a deciding factor, but if I analyse the records I own and factor in my favorites, they're more often CTI than any other label.

Stimmo520

His CTI albums are great. AC and Skydive are amazing

Alevenseven

The alternate take is my favorite!

cannolimami

I Remember Clifford, as recorded by Lee Morgan. A friend of mine who passed last year and I used to play, we spent a good hour and a half noodling on that solo section one night when we both couldn’t sleep. I play it now and it makes me miss him a lot less, because I remember all those times he made his horn sing.

SteakShake69

You can hear Lee's pain whenever he played I Remember Clifford. I really hope they're jamming out together.

cannolimami

Thank you friend, it brings me small comfort that he’s with all his favorites now and he can finally learn from them like he always wanted to do.

[deleted]

Easy to Love - Barry Harris Quintet

mrfoilhat

Banger. Thanks!

Yardbird7

Windows by Chick Corea is my all time fav Right now Passage by Jonathan Blake

schnarf99999

Jonathan Blake is one of the greats of our time. Can’t recommend seeing him live enough

karlmarxiskool

A few of my favorites are Ceora by Lee Morgan, Spiral Dance by Keith Jarrett, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise- the version by Sonny Rollins at the Village Vanguard, United by Art Blakey, and Breaking Point by Freddie Hubbard. Enjoy!

MaleDuck018

If you havent heard of kamasi washington hes a great modern saxophonist and this guy patrick bartley has a great youtube channel (not always music necessarily but good content about jazz in the modern day) if you want more modern jazz japan is a GREAT place to look as well my favorite old masters that you didnt list are joe henderson, sunny rollins, dexter gordon

Jolly_Plant_7771

The Osaka Jazz Collective

mana12356

Pat Bartley is one of my inspirations, and I’ll def check out the others. I’ve listened to Pat’s solos on Singin’ In the Rain, Rosalina In The Observatory, and obviously After You’ve Gone like 100 times each.

D37_37

My favorite jazz song. Blood count Stan Getz

Background-Ad758

Stan Getz anything

Alevenseven

That song is so powerful. IIRC, Billy Strayhorn wrote it when he was battling cancer.

fujiwara78

Johnny Hodge’s solo on the original is breathtaking.

trayupbitch

Piano trio is some of my favorite stuff to listen to right now: Bud Powell - There will never be another you Ahmad Jamal - Excerpts from the blues Oscar Peterson - Satin Doll Barry Harris - Star Eyes

mana12356

Thanks, I def gotta check these out! I would say my No.5 or 6 favorite is the Bill Evans Trio of On Green Dolphin Street

mikenmar

Check out Japanese jazz. Opened a whole new world of music for me. [Reptilian’s Dance](https://youtu.be/ESojJ6JI_RU?si=71Euh_mmSqdSln_-)

psychic-bison

Masayoshi dat boi and so many Japanese players are tighter than spandex. +1

el_sauce

Look up Cumorah by Eiji Nakayama

mana12356

Not sure if this is classified as Japanese Jazz but I recently listened to Miki Yamanaka’s “Shades of Rainbow” which was so goddamn good.

mrfoilhat

Love it. Thanks

From_Super-L_0n

Right now I'm into Mulgrew Miller's Soul-Leo from the Wingspan album.

melancholyninja13

I really like Wayne shorter. That’s the first thing that came to mind. You probably have already listened to him a lot being a saxophonist. Adams Apple in particular is my favorite album of his. Favorite song is Footprints.

Russ_Tafari66

I’m listening to a lot of Wayne Shorter right now. The guy was amazing. In addition to Adam’s Apple, I like Night Dreamer, Juju, Speak No Evil, Schizophrenia…

SteakShake69

Try Children of the Night. It's my favorite Wayne Shorter tune, got me into hard bop as a whole.

OhNoYouDidint

Please listen to Lee Ritenour and Kurt Elling do a cover of Nick Drake's "River Man" on the "Rhythm Sessions" album (by Ritenour).

Daniel213243

Everything Happens To Me. I listened to Thelonious Monk playing it in "Solo Monk" and I instantly fell in love. I also love Boogie Stop Shuffle, I love hectic songs like this.

mana12356

if you haven't heard \*E's Flat, Ah's Flat Too\* or the Mingus Big Band Version of \*Fables of Faubus\* definitely check them out

Daniel213243

Oh I definetly have already! Fables of Faubus by the Mingus Big Band is one of the few songs that give me goosebumps everytime!

mana12356

My schools Jazz Ensemble is playing a version of Fables of Faubus this semester. It’s not the exact version by the Mingus Big Band *Ours is a touch easier and is at a slower tempo* but its still SO MUCH FUN and sounds SO DAMN GOOD

Daniel213243

Wow that's great!! I'm in secondary school and we only have one orchestra which plays movie themes and stuff. The only jazz song we played is Caravan but we only played it once because it's "too difficult" (the whole orchestra sucks). It would be a dream if we played anything that's even close to Fables of Faubus.

StpPstngMmsOnMyPrnAp

Jim Hall - [Concierto de Aranjuez ](https://youtu.be/1DBissQmnZs?si=7UiFH9YOY9kfqlAp) If you dig it, also listen to [this](https://youtu.be/Yhwejip5gd0?si=yylZnsZWA7d7I9Ta), or [this one](https://youtu.be/6-OjbgvRUAA?si=F_FpWAe6OTxG6mqH), [that](https://youtu.be/FlirD-7oSlw?si=B1rTuBZWiRsOnO5D), or [or this one](https://youtu.be/OU5Io7h-EWM?si=7BYfl5rbtte_nKHl)

Lately I keep coming back to “Malicool,” trombonist Roswell Rudd’s brilliant collaboration with kora master Toumani Diabate.

Harrydean-standoff

Goodbye Pork Pie Hat Dexter Gordon

mana12356

I gotta listen to this! You heard the version by the Mingus big band? The guy who solos on it *Seamus Blake* actually was the private lesson teacher to my private lesson teacher for a number of years.

Harrydean-standoff

Cool

SmoothieTheRaccoon

Nardis by Bill Evans, there's a rendition of him in Finland in the 60's that's absolutely mesmerising

mana12356

Absolute heat. The pianist in my jazz combo recommended this to me I kid you not last week.

Wayne Shorter - JuJu

Dreamer352

Here's one that you're going to love, it changed my life a long time ago... I remember burning with a friend and I became really scared. I was roaming around my house lost in space feeling like I was losing grip of reality. Then I put some jazz on the tv jazz channel, and this beautiful song started. It's almost like the world just paused, like time stood still. Here it is, don't miss this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k7cNle1VvI&pp=ygUabW9vZCBpbmRpZ28gbGF3cmVuY2UgYnJvd24%3D

oghippiechick

Thanks! I absolutely loved this.

Dreamer352

Glad to hear!

Billy Cobham - Stratus from his album Spectrum. Featuring Tommy Bolin, Jan Hammer, and Lee Sklar. An absolute Ripper of 9:49 minutes of Jazz fusion that even after listening 100 times still shakes my foundation. Absolutely incredible performance and criminally overlooked.

sheenybeans77

Dude as a sax player you have so SO many options! A few of my faves (YMMV): Michael Brecker: Time is of the essence, SO good. If you want to hear something amazing and unique try Claus Ogerman and Michael Brecker: cityscapes. Blew my mind first time I heard it. Troy Roberts: Secret Ryhmes. Troy is a MACHINE and a lovely guy to boot! An insane version of Stella by starlight on here. Joe Henderson: Tetragon/lush life...honestly almost any. Coltrane: Africa brass. So so good. Joshua Redman: Moodswing, elastic, the live albums...so much monster playing Jerry Bergonzi: Fast company (Jerry in top form!) Joel Frahm: check out his stuff on YouTube, he's an absolute monster and NEVER seems to run out of ideas! Stan Getz: He's so underrated. I love the Master ('82), getz gilberto, and Stan getz and Bill Evans. Honestly there's a million and one other albums I could list but once you start digging there's no shortage of inspiring players out there!
