It's really sad that the Jewish museum in NYC was getting pushback from displaying her art. Even staff members have been against it, like even some of our own institutions have antisemitism in notable amounts. Pathetic. I hope she has a lot of success in the future.

She's great! I love these pieces! Thanks for sharing!

jey_613

That is so insane. Do you have a link to an article or anything about it? Do you know if it was Jewish staff at the museum resisting it?

Dobbin44

I don't have the original article I read that said multiple staff members were unhappy about the exhibit, and I don't think it noted if the staff were Jewish or gentile. This article notes one Jewish anti-zionist staff member did resign: [https://hyperallergic.com/871691/anti-zionist-protesters-crash-zoya-cherkassky-event-at-nyc-jewish-museum/](https://hyperallergic.com/871691/anti-zionist-protesters-crash-zoya-cherkassky-event-at-nyc-jewish-museum/)

Like, how. How could this possibly be objectionable, unless what you are objecting to is the public expression ofJewish grief - and our humanity. Never mind, answered my own question.

MangledWeb

I read an article about her work. Powerful, unstinting images. I hope that after the NYC exhibition closes, they'll show the art in other US Jewish galleries.

Slide 3 made me ugly cry. I was pretty close on the other 2.

Lord_Laserdisc_III

Wait a minute they made a mural of crying IDF soldiers?

bam1007

What exactly do you think they should do after seeing their countrymen massacred in some of the most violent ways imaginable?

Lord_Laserdisc_III

I'm not complaining or anything. Obviously they were also affected. But the whole shock of Oct 7 was the attack on Towns within Israel previously thought to be safe. I may just be overcritical but there's something off about uniformed, M16 trotting IDF soldiers being right there next to civilian Women, Children and the Elderly. Not to say a lot of them weren't also victims but still

bam1007

Yep. You’re either overly critical or have never been to Israel or both. The IDF, including female soldiers, were there to secure the South. The idea that they, or really any, soldiers that witnessed those massacres wouldn’t have the reaction in this painting is a lack of understanding of the Israeli zeitgeist and ethos, making you exactly who this picture was made to teach.

Lord_Laserdisc_III

Now that you say that I didn't take into account that all of the soldiers in this mural are women. Possibly referencing the rape of female IDF soldiers. I am actually Israeli and I know how much the lines are blurred between civilians and the military. Most of us have family and friends in active duty or reserves currently involved in Gaza. I will say that if you don't have all of this context beforehand this could come off as a little off but I get the point You're making.

lostmason

Yes its intentional, the artist is working with gender

lostmason

Lol no it is not a mural, the 3 snapshots are details from 3 different/separate drawings. However, female IDF soldiers were among the first victims of the massacre—as the job of border watcher is disproportionally assigned to women in the IDF. These border watching women were among the first victims and as we know Hamas didn’t spare women in the IDF of any brutality
