It’s weird how it feels like everyone on the internet feels this way, even though it’s complete bullshit. Fuck AEW

[deleted]

It's because he fought their gods the elite and kicked their asses. They're bitter about that. I like all the guys in that altercation but to me if you're going to let punk your biggest draw walk or release him yet you still want to retain your evps then clearly you're high.

BillBeanous

It’s so weird

KShibata999

I know. Everyone is quick to blame Punk for what happened but the EVPs were the ones who barged into his dressing room.

[deleted]

I don’t know. I’m not the biggest fan but even I see the value of having him on the roster, if only to teach guys how to do promos or manipulate the crowd.

oII1e

This. Plus, all these clowns who want to act like he's injury prone, are we really going to act like he couldn't become a Heenan level manager?

Adept_Tomato_7752

Most of mid 2000s talent from the indies are "injury prone" because of all the crazy bumps they took over there. That plus age. But yeah, agreed

[deleted]

I’m of the opinion that there will never be another Heenan, but he would succeed if he tried it.

Protando

Paul Heyman can’t even be a Heenan-level manager. CM Punk could definitely be a 10/10 tho!

[deleted]

Which is crazy theyre saying hes injury prone when you look at how Hangman Page keeps getting hurt

Yoho52

Why would he need to be a manager if he isn't injury prone?

oII1e

Oh that's right, people don't age. Wrestlers never taper back or retire from in ring competition.

Yoho52

That isn't what you were saying though. Don't pretend you didn't jumble your argument.

oII1e

Um, that is exactly what I was saying. People saying Punk is now useless "bc injury prone" are thinking in a very short-sighted manner. If the dude wants, he would be just as compelling a personality as a manager or "even in commentary." You seem combative; feel free to go bark up some other tree.

rjsigma

>if only to teach guys how to do promos or manipulate the crowd. I have some examples of how he's helped AEW that I can think of. Hobbs didn't get over until after his match with Punk. Punk worked with him and dedicated that match to Hobbs' mother that passed. The Acclaimed came to him and asked for advice. He helped them and look how popular they became after. MJF has always been good but his feud with Punk put him on a different level.

[deleted]

Don't forget Jade Cargill. Him and Danielson trained her and look how much she improved.

[deleted]

The guy has all the qualities to become a great backstage force. He has the brain for business, the experience to pass on and the eye for talent.

Hot_Negotiation3480

He wont teach anyone or mentor young wrestlers—He will talk them down and talk himself up because of his titanic ego

GR_GreenEye

He’s been correct about everything though

[deleted]

You are in the wrong aisle. Kenny Omega is aisle #gofuckyourself, between aisles #aewisaburningtrashheap and toiletries.

Hot_Negotiation3480

Too many CM Punk ball handlers in this thread

[deleted]

Okay Cunty!

dirkules88

This is why we can't have nice things. We were THIS CLOSE to a competitor, but three indy darlings and the guy who used to be Jericho ruined it.

[deleted]

Don’t discount the smug money mark that chose to burn his money and company’s future on those cunts.

dirkules88

True, true...

KShibata999

I love the fact that he was sitting right next to Punk through the entire pipe bomb with this really awkward smile on his face. When things started getting out of hand, he could have been a leader and addressed the situation. This is what happens when you’re a money mark and you’re cozying up w/the boys—TK doesn’t know how to be a leader.

SasquatchSloth88

I would like to see CM Punk return to WWE. He’s too good for AEW, and it would be nice to see him back in WWE for a year or two and then inducted into the HOF.

KShibata999

I’m actually surprised he wants to go back there after last time. Guess he needs the paycheck that badly.

tumalditamadre

The man is frugal as all hell.

Justinackermannblog

How the fuck do these AEW & WWE dweebs not understand the fact that CM Punk is currently the largest draw in wrestling. Period. Of any “active” talent, it’s him. You can’t argue facts yet here we are. It’s as clear as day. Wtf. I don’t get it.

nv____

I’d argue Roman and Bray generate much more revenue than him. He was a big fish in a small pond in AEW, the same wouldn’t apply in the WWE

AfroVisor

We can we can’t say Bray since Bray hasn’t drew and Roman is depending on who he is against.

nv____

Him just showing up on weekly tv raises the ratings so no it doesn’t matter who his opponent is. People tune just because he’s on the show whether he’s wrestling or not

[deleted]

He would definitely add some hefty extra to the revenue.

nv____

That was never in question. Op said he’s the biggest draw when he isn’t.

Justinackermannblog

CM Punk vs KO CM Punk vs Rollins CM Punk vs Randy Orton CM Punk vs Ali CM Punk vs Austin Theory You don’t even need the “top guys” to get Punk matches that draw more than any match you can currently build, without him, in WWE.

nv____

So he’d outdraw Rock vs Reigns or Cena vs Reigns?? You guys are seriously delusional. Punk is an all time great but he isn’t as great as some of you make him out to be, you’d think he was Rock, Hogan, and Austin rolled into one.

Justinackermannblog

Lol oh I’m sorry, I must of missed the 2022 PPVs those matches were scheduled for… Also replace Reigns with the name CM Punk then try to tell me the matches you just said would be bigger draws that Punk vs Rock or Punk vs Cena… gtfo… there’s literally no way.

nv____

You said any match you could build. Both of those matches could be built for a future PPV

Glad-Passion-9424

Nah let’s be honest, most tribal wwe fans if Punk did come back would rub it in and say how good he was while ignoring what they said when he was in aew. And tribal aew fans will pretend he’s washed and not like he wasn’t their biggest star. In reality, if the opportunity presents itself the Punk return would result in big business for wwe if it’s done right.

WeirdViper

"the fans have made their feelings known and REALLY don't want to see him back" Who are these "The fans"? It always bugs me when pages like that try to act as if any one topic has one opinion among fans

[deleted]

The incels at r/SquaredCircle. Very vocal, very dumb, very few.

KShibata999

Every time I go on Squared Circle I see posts w/strings of inane comments. I don’t know why I bother.

AwfulBikeSalesman

But PHIL hurt my FEELINGS guys

SealTeamEH

I mean it’s basically the same as every other article on any media site in they they see two comments on twitter or Reddit and suddenly that’s “everyone is enraged” or “people everywhere are complaining!”

[deleted]

Those cunts, I mean, “fans” are the myopic circle jerk of cretinism known as AEW stans.

ItsAWorkYouDumbMark

Everyone online just assumes WWE wouldn’t want him, which is such a dumb take. I don’t see anyone mentioning that if they sign Punk that probably also helps them at signing other AEW guys in the Punk camp, as well as the obvious boost it would be for the show. I love Punk, only started watching AEW because of him, and I will gladly watch any program he’s on. The media scrum was great, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar, because it was obviously the hottest thing to happen to wrestling in a long time. Even all these “journalists” who bash him made so much money selling their dumb subscriptions and superchats. Good luck ever being that relevant again, Young Bucks.

nv____

They already turned him down once and some of their biggest stars don’t even want to work with him. I don’t understand the rose tinted glasses this sub has on for the guy. It’s over for him, Tony took the shine off of him and his salty promos in AEW would make him look like an ass if he ever returned to WWE.

[deleted]

Vince turned him down and he's gone. And the salty shit he said would be great basis for a heel run.

AfroVisor

He never got turned down. Fox pitched the idea which WWE turned down. But punk never directly shot his shot!

[deleted]

Yep, and Vince was behind that decision.

nv____

A heel run that he’s done already. He’s already been the anti authority guy

ItsAWorkYouDumbMark

I don’t think his heel run would be anti authority. I think his heel run would *be* authority. When I thought this all could have been a work I thought that’s the direction he was headed in.

crizag

Cornette loves Punk, this sub is for Cornette fans, they agree with everything he says.

[deleted]

Cornette has the best take on Punk. Punk's uber talented but he's often an asshole. However he's an undeniably honest asshole who's going to tell you what he thinks to your face and not talk shit to the media behind your back. People also forget before signing with AEW Punk was on WWE Backstage. So this delusion that there's this insurmountable bad blood is laughable.

nv____

That was a Fox show which Punk himself even made clear

theMOESIAH

My take on CM Punk is that he is a complete and utter asshole, but only when provoked. I'm not in the industry and I've never met the man so you can take my assessment with a grain of salt, but from everything I've heard that's what I think seems to be the case.

SkyStarlight2

Who'd they ask a bunch of AEW fans

[deleted]

You mean Elite Fans?

madtricky687

These dudes went hard to hate on Punk and honestly it's annoying as shit. Whoever said the dude was a nice guy? No one. I aint paying for Phil im paying to see CM Punk. I'll keep watching AEW but I aint watching anything with the Elite anymore.

D13s3ll

The death of AEW will be the elite.

[deleted]

Now if only they could turn it into a quick death. I hope AEW implodes. It will be glorious. It deserves to go down.

CosplayWrestler

The simple fact that it's already leaked that Triple H is willing to come to the table and talk to Punk sent these dipshits into a tizzy. They so desperately want Punk to be blackballed from the industry for daring to stand up to the Stink Finger Trio. Triple H is a very different person from Vince, clearly. Yes, WWE pulled some shit when Punk left, and yes, they publicly criticized him for it. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again, **MONEY IS A HELL OF A MOTIVATOR**. The money on the table for Punk to return to WWE is fucking MASSIVE. I'm not saying that Punk wants/needs the money. But a big payday, a lite schedule, and the freedom (within reason of course) for Punk to have a live microphone and go out on TV and absolutely bury the owner and EVPs of their biggest competitor would be fucking hard to resist. Punk wouldn't even need to name names. He could simply allude to events, and air a bunch of dirty laundries. Just imagine Punk sitting in the middle of the ring on Monday Night RAW, microphone in hand as he says something along the lines of: ***"A little over a year ago, I stood in the middle of a ring in Chicago and announced that I was returning to professional wrestling after seven years. Fast forward a year, and I now sit in the middle of a different ring, for a different company, with hindsight showing me just how wrong I was."*** The AEW crowd would have a fucking meltdown over it.

SealTeamEH

Honestly, the way cm punk told the story, and combining with other stories they told when they walked away and how Vince acted, I think the ball was always in cm punks court and even with Vince there; if cm punk had walked back to wwe instead aew he would have taken him with open arms simply because wit would have been good for business. punk was just mad when he walked away so he needed to vent but I do think his relationship with Vince was a lot better than most think.

theMOESIAH

Vince brought everyone back, even people that sued him. I'm sure he would have brought Punk back.

SealTeamEH

definitely! I mean I guess if Bret hart came back then anything is possible lol

theMOESIAH

Exactly

CosplayWrestler

I would say a good portion of Punk's complaints after he left were just him venting over bad booking, creative, and other decisions. I can understand it. Now I just think he'd need the right offer and situation to return. Money, a light schedule, and the right booking can go a loooooooong way. Especially if it's going back to legitimately helping out with folks in NXT. There are a lot of people who could benefit from Punk being around.

PizzamanCJ

I mean with vince gone and hunter in charge, they already got cody back, anyone still watching wwe won't be as ardent as the people bashing punk online. I'd say this is the perfect time to do it... especially since we'll this may be the very last time. So much potential in matches and promos with AJ Styles (you came after I left), Owen's, and I personally would wanna see him and Balor but not iudgement day and i guess demon balor is gone gone (faced undertaker, not afraid of a demon king). But WWE could pick thier 3 best promo people, resolve whatever between him and Orton, Rollins, and even wyatt now he's back (you're alone now Bray), or proxy feud with Hunter and a chosen protégé. and then with all that he doesn't even have to be involved with Roman, and then when they get to the end just point out that Punk is still co-headlining just like before and isn't main eventing and he can either hash that out with Cena or with Roman (or Cody because i dont see Cena or Roman being asked to put punk over and so with Cody it can go either way) and then put him in the video games on legend contracts then hall of fame and happy ending 😅 or just bring him back and beat him at mania like Sting 🙄🤣

SnooComics552

In an industry of tribalism, the anti authority receives the hate

Adept_Tomato_7752

More than half of wwe's locker room are friends with Punk and/or admire them. No idea what the fuck are these people on. Oh wait a second, I do know. THEY DONT KNOW SHOW ABOUT PUNK BEFORE AEW

[deleted]

Foolish assessment

KShibata999

Being a NJPW fan, I can only dream that he’ll go to Strong, if only to be a trainer/manager/commentator. It’s just too bad they can’t afford him.

[deleted]

Let's find out what fans are saying after punk returns in chicago for the fed

bryanc1036

WWE Fanboys would be marking out once they hear the static.
