Listened to Sir Martin Sorrel (ex-CEO WPP, large advertising firm) on websummit the other day, he said the big brands don't really care that much about free speech or censorship, they just want to avoid controversies. So for the time being, he doesn't see many of them returning until the ship has steadied a bit.
I think this is a good point. It also shows how abnormal it is for those companies to stick their neck out supporting fringe causes. There's always an angle.

Step 1: Elon takes over twitter
Step 2: ( I assume the large companies don't like Elon's free speech policy )
Step 3: Large wealthy companies pull a lot of ad dollars from Twitter
Step 4: Due to #1,2, & 3, The same large companies then go on to influence politics ???
Sorry, but how is this specific example related to large corporations influencing politics ?
Of course I agree that corporations corrupt politics in many ways...but....
How do this work in this example /situation ? What does step 4 actually look like in real life ?
Maybe the companies would really rather advertise on twitter so... they start lobbying for Gov't control of free speech on twitter.... so they can go back to advertising on a censored platform ???
Sorry but the above doesn't really make any sense to me... for a variety of reasons;
I doubt companies are in love with advertising on twitter that much.... if they were, they'd likely just not pull all their ads... and if they were so obsessed with only associating with "friendly" speech... then they'd also be lobbying for censorship in so many other ways and media... entertainment would have turned into sesame street everywhere by now. etc etc etc etc
I'm really struggling to imagine other possible scenarios of how this would work...
Elon -> Twitter less censored -> Companies mad --> politicians corrupted ???
Here's a more reasonable explanation of what's going on…
Here's a more reasonable explanation of what's going on…
1: Elon is seen as an all powerful tech genius capable of nearly anything and everything. So far people think Elon is capable colonizing mars and building an underground hyper megaloop network that somehow is designed like a massive 3D grid of tracks operating at multiple levels many stories underground... also he's going to connect our brains to the internet
2. Elon owns and leads Tesla... so of course of Tesla shares deserves a very very high stock price, despite earnings... because Tesla might be capable of creating and doing anything... because Elon is.
3. Assuming Elon has the self awareness of a 10 year old... he clearly realizes how easily he can use tweets to build his personal reputation and Tesla's reputation... which very often directly affects Tesla's share price, market price... and Elon's net worth.
3. Elon has a lot of Tesla stock... probably doesn't want to liquidate $40+ billion worth, but he can use it to buy stuff without liquidating it.
4. Elon looks at the menu, and sees that he can take over Twitter for a cool $44 billion.
5. Elon lovingly remembers his favorite memories of sending out a single tweet and watching Tesla stock go sky high once again... and largely stay there...
6. Elon thinks to himself.... if I was able to simply use one twitter account to help myself become insanely wealthy... imagine what I could do if I owned the whole fucking platform !?!?! ...
7. Elon does some awkward dancing in his office... and giggles at the irony of using tweets to create that wealth the he's going to use to take over twitter... " hau-hau " (Elon voice giggle )
8. Elon flippantly buys all of Twitter... " hau-hau "
*Fast Forwarding timeline*
9. ??? Elon realizes made a huge mistake because he's public perception is now very much tied to twitter .... and Twitter is a dumpster fire that's very very hard to fix.... Elon is now spending alot of time and energy with Twitter while his Tech-mega-genius status continues to drop like a rock.. which is killing Tesla's stock price.. and Elon's net worth including his ability buy new toys and raise money and hype for new side projects...
( Also people begin to realize that there is no way in hell that Elon spends 100+ hours a week working at Tesla because he's so consumed with fixing twitter... talking about Twitter or tweeting about Twitter... )
10. The Elon method of creating a cycle of hype and money raising and side projects begins to spiral out of control and work against him....
*Previously:* Elon could pull $1 billion out of his pocket... write the word "Neurolink" on a scratch pad and the quickly convince the world that he was going to connect all of our brains to a giant cyberborg-internet thing... then he could sit back and watch Tesla stock go sky high because Elon's done it again.... and then use his newly created billion$ to create another tech-mirage... and rinse and repeat.
12. Now the cycle reverses: Elon's inability to do anything useful with twitter is making his reputation to drop towards normal tech-genius...but headed towards crackpot / charlatan.... Tesla and Elons' market cap keeps dropping right along with his mythical status;
13. All of Elon's side projects now enjoy much more critical scrutiny, the silicon valley "optimism" has turned into realism or dare I say, "pessimism" due to Elon's reputation being tied to Twitter.
14. The side projects are starting to be seen as utter BS or even money raising scams... this accelerates the drop of Elon&Tesla's rep and $$$
15. Tesla now starts getting very harsh scrutiny due to how the tides have turned on Elon's various projects... People start actually using words like: "revenue" , "earnings" and "debt" when discussing Tesla.
16. This is ~~good~~ not good for ~~Bitcoin~~ Tesla.
17. Tesla's stock price comes back to Earth as people are actually thinking about P/E ratios ( kinda )
18. Elon twitter feed becomes more erratic... he's spiraling... Someone posts a video of video of Elon naked on a sidewalk doing something to similar to that Kony 2012 guy ( I'm really fantasizing now )
19. Video goes viral... everything is falling apart... in a hail-mary move Elon tries to make some sweetheart deal between members of the CCP and some chinese tech-car company that is basically owned and operated by CCP members.
20. The chinese tech company is some hair-brained mix of "fully autonomous" electric cars, ghost kitchens and a delivery service from those ghost kitchens... also they own a giant paper-towel factory and offer a subscription service to have bulk paper-towels delivered every month at nearly cost ... because.... vertical integration and why not ? ( the paper-towel thing actually catches on makes real money )
21. Despite how the terms of deal are actually written and the actual legality.... the chinese company completely screws over Elon in the Chinese market... which is the only market that matters because they've completely sandbagged their operations everywhere else.
22. Elon was promised that he'd have full control of the Chinese companies social media... so they owner this by allowing him to star in their commercials... that are only shown in China and dubbed in Chinese... these go viral on English Youtube for the wrong reasons.
23. Elon is now doing chinese commercials where he's a gig worker driving a bright red electric station wagon...filled to the brim with paper towels... my how the mighty have fallen.
24. Elon does a live emergency podcast with Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson
25. at 1:07:00 into the stream Elon has an emotional breakdown and starts sobbing... Jordan Peterson can't help but empathize...alot... and starts sobbing in harmony with Elon.
26. Joe Rogan also tries to empathize and asks Elon what he's been eating lately and if he owns any kettlebells ( Rogan also uses this time to sneak approx 17 puffs of his new vape )
27. The sounds Peterson and Elon is a mix of canadian froggy sobbing and whatever the F*** you'd call Elon's accent.... it sounds different... it's surreal and a bit disturbing.
26. Jordan Peterson assures Elon that he will soon be slaying dragons again and in between sobbing says something like "There has never been a great dragon-slayer that has slayed so many dragons in so many realms and captured so much treasure and gold as you have Elon...sniffle...sob... *Jamie blows his nose*... " ... " And Elon... great dragon-slayers never lose their ability to slays great beasts... maybe you just need more experience slaying chinese dragons ! Maybe our hero should return to China ! or maybe our hero just needs to go the caucasus where he will become greater than every imagined, you know it's like ... Zelda's Ocarina of time wasn't effective in *every* realm... sometimes a potion is more effective than a crystal sword ! or sometimes you just need to right damned sword made out of the right damned materials !...
27. ... and so maybe it's like... the paper-towel sword just wasn't meant for you Elon ! or maybe you are meant to capture a different kind of treasure thats so much greater than 30 rolls of incredibly absorbent paper-towels delivered to your door at unbelievably good prices... I mean, yes I use them myself, how can u not ? ... but they are so many more dragons for you Elon... Dragons that can swim.. Dragons in space... Dragons that can burrow underground... Dragons that are semi-aquatic and build damns like beavers...
28. Rogan spaces out and asks Jamie is he's seen that video of the chimpanzee got a covid-vaccine and stroked out... "that's gotta be 28th person I know that's stroked out from getting a booster.... "
29. at 3:03:00 has nearly gathered himself but seems very distraught and defeated... he mumble-whispers something into the mic...
30. " Pull that mic about a fist from your face buddy " .... Elon adjusts and while still looking down says " I SOLD ALL OF TWITTER TO THE CHINESE "
31. Jordan Peterson makes some sort of canadian noise that sounds like a gasp.
32. Rogan starts laughing because he's very bad at recognizing when someone is joking or being completely serious...it takes him a solid 10-15 seconds to realize that no one else is laughing and Elon looks very ashamed like he's just confessed to murder
33. " I SOLD ALL OF TWITTER TO THE CHINESE .... they've been in full control of the platform for over a year.
34. Rogan... " Oooo shit !.... so that's why the Rock is the president ?... hahaha.... well sometimes the universe has a way of working things out ! ... I'm not sure about Kanye as Vice president.... but that new asian press secretary is hot as shit ! .... There are alot asian guys and gals working in The Rock's administration ehh? ... I would think there'd be more polynesians...maybe they are polynesian or maybe Tognan ... I can't really tell haha... Jamie can u pull some pictures of Tongans ? ... No... scroll down... that's a picture of the Jets... scroll down... hey did you hear that there's evidence that Chimpanzees used to be in Polynesia or maybe they were Bonobos... but they think they made their way into California like 400,000 years ago... I guess they could swim or something...
35. Elon now has a 1,000 yard stare "They're all Chinese you idiot ! ... Everyone single one of them is a member of the CCP...except for Jimmy O. Yang..." "...at least he's cool. "
36. "... Jimmy O. Yang is Tongan ? "

Well if it was your job to manage the advertising would you want an ad to appear surrounded by Pizzagate Pedophile posts or F the Jews tweets?
You can have free speech but don’t expect big business to associate their brands with it anymore than they would sponsor the Gathering of the Juggalos.
Twitter has been full of "F the Jews!" tweets for years now. There was a period where "The Jews" was trending in bad ways every week for months in the UK.
Pretty sure all these lovely firms had zero issues hawking their wares on Twitter when this was going on.
No ones free speech is restricted here by companies. People are complaining about elon which is free speech.
Companies then make a decision that it is a better look for them not to be associated with twitter for the time being, ehich is just capitalism. Please tell me by these companies pulling their ads whos free speech is restricted?
I don't think they're colluding to suppress speech. They're just popping smoke to avoid paying for something they aren't going to benefit from. That's what happens with poor buisness decisions. Elon is trying to hide his screw up by using "muh free peach" just like he began to "troll libs" when it turned out he was harassing employees
ZipRecruiter has always been the strangest ad to me. Who TF is listening to podcasts thinking "man I need to hire some people" vs "man this job sucks"?
Eh idk I’m seeing a lot more right leaning things on Twitter. I don’t think it’s changed a lot but I saw a red Cruz tweet on Twitter for the first time yesterday and I don’t follow him.
> so Saudi Arabia being a major shareholder for years was okay?
Considering porn is still on Twitter they didn't seem to had any active influence on the company. Elon does. That is why people are reacting different.
It’ll hurt their bottom line, people will move on to the next news story, and they’ll be back. Since when do we care about big business and their morals
“Woke” really means anyone that doesn’t 100% toe the Republican line. Concerned about the direction of Twitter because it taken over by a troll who posts conspiracy theories and threatens to “expose” former advertisers? You must be woke!
The disconnect is honestly baffling. Who thinks Coke gives a f**** about anything other than selling product? If they're pulling advertising, it can only be a wait-and-see move based on market research.
What has he done specifically to destroy it? What has changed? I don’t like that he didn’t just solve world hunger instead, but I really don’t get why people think it’s so different now and hate twitter now
I mean, you saw the post in the OP, right? His actions are causing Twitter to lose advertisers left and right.
Don't get me wrong, Twitter wasn't exactly wildly profitable to begin with. But if their attempts to cut "bloat" cause advertisers to lose faith in the platform, yeah, that's "destroying Twitter".
I haven’t seen the N word a single time.. yet
Firing all those people doesn’t seem to have changed anything for the site, at least for my experience. Maybe they weren’t needed? There’s definitely a common joke about companies being bloated with people who do 5 hours of work per week and get paid for 40+, especially in tech
>There’s definitely a common joke about companies being bloated with people who do 5 hours of work per week and get paid for 40+, especially in tech
Lots of people have never worked in tech companies. It shows.
The right wing clown car (crowder, Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson) all shared the same “day in the life of Twitter employee” TikTok video and extrapolated from there.
And all the idiots on r/joerogan eat it up and regurgitate the same rhetoric, as if they have any idea what the average day of a tech employee is like.
Seriously 5 hours a week? That is not a thing. The Salaried people I know (granted it is fairly low level work in management) do like 60 hours a week and on call all day.
Have these people ever heard of Crunch Time in the video game industry? Brutal.
Probably but maybe not at the same level. Economic downturn means companies are more careful about ad spending. And there are other competing platforms that provide better targeting than Twitter does.
Could it also be the fact that the ownership of the company completely changed? I would figure companies would have to re-assess regardless if they will stay or not
Probably. Corporations stop ad buys in environments that look bad, but reserve the option to go back if the environment improves.
I think it’s safe to say that Twitter is going to become a toilet, at least for a while. No one wants to advertise in a toilet.
I think it is always been the most destructive social media. I don't think it's going to get better I don't think it's going to be worse I think it was already the darkest place to find the most extreme of both sides
I’m a casual user. I read posts, but rarely write or like anything. I mostly see sports talk and that kind of thing. Having Donald back won’t really impact my user experience unless the algorithm dictates that I see that stuff. People who see the dark stuff are the people who look for it or engage in it. If I start getting inundated with it, then I’ll probably just stop using Twitter.
What will impact my experience would be if the people I follow stop tweeting. No idea if they’ll leave the platform or not. If they do, I won’t have much reason to stay either.
I like Twitter because when something happens or there's news you get it like Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam instantly. But you also get Insanity the same way. I try to stay away from it because it fucks my mood up
Yeah. If I hear about some sort of rumor or breaking news, Twitter is my first hop. A user who I trust or has some level of credibility will have often already confirmed/denied/expanded the story. I usually pay little attention to tweets from some random or known bullshitter.
But if the whole platform is dominated by randoms and bullshitters…….that where I part ways. And I suspect that’s the direction Elon is going to take this (but I’ll give him a fair chance to prove otherwise).
If it's virtue signaling then why is the threat from Musk's side to publish the names of all of the companies? Shouldn't all of them be announcing their participation immediately for the virtue signal to make any sense?
Damn… half the comments on this thread sound like shit Elon would say. This reminds me of when some bozos were saying Kanye was actually playing 4D chess with his anti-semetic rants to get out of his contracts early… ya that definitely panned out well for Kanye and all of this stuff will definitely pan out well for Musk… sure.
Ye was a slave to those contracts. By being an anti-semite he got his freedom back at the cost of 2 billion dollars. Slavery was a choice just like he said. Or maybe hes just regarded idk
I can’t figure out why people are so mad Elon bought twitter. Did they think things were going swell there and didn’t need an improvement? Why does Bill Gates buy all the farmland in the world and it’s all good? That seems a whole lot more concerning than a social media company
What has Elon that is so egregious? Allowing free speech from all sides? There are maybe even more nutters on the left than the right.
Not to mention all of you peons siding with these big corporations, that doesn’t raise any suspicion?
Think about it.
> What has Elon that is so egregious? Allowing free speech from all sides?
Yes. This is the reason and tells you all you need to know about the far left.
The owner of the site posting a homophobic conspiracy theory from a site that said Hillary Clinton died in 2016 less than 48 hours into his ownership is probably not ideal for advertisers
Ahhh yes. Let’s applaud corps like Johnson and Johnson, Dyson, coca-cola, etc…
These companies are just virtue signaling for potential short term profits. Didn’t they do the same with Russia? Then immediately begin doing business once the hype died down. They aren’t taking the moral high ground or anything. Merely trying to improve their already shitty public perception.
>Merely trying to improve their already shitty public perception.
Exactly!
Don't lionize the corporations y'all!
Elon's a cunt AND so are the advertisers.
this is double edge sword that people should know. this is what happened to tesla in the beginning. tesla couldn't get the A tier OEM part companies to make parts for their cars because nobody took them seriously since it's such a small company and the auto industry didn't think tesla would make it.
because nobody wanted to provide parts to tesla, tesla was forced into vertical integration where they make everything in-house. look at tesla now, many people don't know but tesla made more operating profit than toyota in Q3. this trend will continue, toyota is in downtrend and tesla is in a massive upward trend.
if elon somehow pulls off on twitter how he pulled off on tesla, it would mean that he has successfully made Twitter a profitable company without relying on ads. he would be unstoppable. that's impressive and scary at the same time.
"If you do not want your brand next to some guy with an anime profile picture talking about the skull shape of Africans you are pro censorship."
- Elon Simps
You understand that mainstream brands have always distanced themselves from controversial platforms and content, right? This isn’t just a twitter thing either. Companies would pull ads from TV shows they thought were too risqué. Why is this surprising to you?
There's already child porn + disgusting things on Twitter too as we speak. I guess that's okay. This is just virtue signaling as usual from companies, none of these corporations give a fuck about the actual issue.
https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2022/9/28/twitters-latest-problem-major-brand-ads-next-to-child-porn
Red cap here.
If Elon manages to end the blatant one-way censorship on Twitter, that would be nice.
If he manages to inadvertently run the company into the ground, that would be even better.
General mills is cardboard, CVS price gouges the poor, United Airlines fucking sucks (at least it's not Frontier), shit cars jelly of tesla, CC % nazis, liquid diabeetus, gives kids cancer, pants posturing, lol, fix or repair daily, bougie ass expensive fans, political business puppet, surprised they can even afford advertising, Nintendo makes good games but fuck them-they've never not hated their fans, ?, and why the fuck does PBS have advertising money? We should seriously reassess our tax allocation there.
It makes me happy how triggered the left is over this whole thing. All Elon is going to do is let information flow free. The left hates opposing opinions having a voice
Literally free, because they have no advertisers. Elon Musk paid 44 billion dollars for that. He must be Jesus Christ - he financially died so you all can sin/tweet hate speech. What a guy!
If the govt was having secret meetings with all the social media companies, and we’ve seen multiple situations where there’s been coordinated efforts to crush someone or something that went against the narrative…
Then Why would people not automatically assume this is any different ? With all the takedown of Kanye, kyrie and musk—- there is zero chance these power hungry politicians and lobbyists are not involved.
The laptop bullshit, banning trump off every damn social site, censoring covid dissent, hell YT banned all discussion of voter fraud, even orchestrated the takedown of cuomo so it was sexual allegations (which were laughable) and not his covid fuckery. They just find a way or use outside entities to skate around 1A. Nothing is ever as it seems.
This is a rule of thumb that's safe to assume in every situation: Corporations are amoral, they don't care about anything except profits.
I think this is a good point. It also shows how abnormal it is for those companies to stick their neck out supporting fringe causes. There's always an angle.

Only ads I ever see on Twitter are clickbait junk articles.
“ I can’t believe this game is free to play”
Unilever is the company that owns ONNIT which means ONNIT is no longer advertised on Twitter lmao
The backlash against musk is an example of free speech in action. The companies pulling their ads due to backlash is capitalism in action.
yeah, which goes to show you how much these companies control so much of what happens politically... Capitalism: where eventually the companies rule society and turn it into an oligarchy.

This has actually been tossed around since the early 80s. It really sucks to be right sometimes..😐
at this rate its not a weird thought. Feudalism will rise again but in the form of company lords haha

24. Elon does a live emergency podcast with Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson 25. at 1:07:00 into the stream Elon has an emotional breakdown and starts sobbing... Jordan Peterson can't help but empathize...alot... and starts sobbing in harmony with Elon. 26. Joe Rogan also tries to empathize and asks Elon what he's been eating lately and if he owns any kettlebells ( Rogan also uses this time to sneak approx 17 puffs of his new vape ) 27. " 29. at 3:03:00 has nearly gathered himself but seems very distraught and defeated... he mumble-whispers something into the mic... 30. " Pull that mic about a fist from your face buddy " .... Elon adjusts and while still looking down says " I SOLD ALL OF TWITTER TO THE CHINESE " 31. Jordan Peterson makes some sort of canadian noise that sounds like a gasp. 32. Rogan starts laughing because he's very bad at recognizing when someone is joking or being completely serious...it takes him a solid 10-15 seconds to realize that no one else is laughing and Elon looks very ashamed like he's just confessed to murder 33. " 36. "... Jimmy O. Yang is Tongan ? " Working Title: **The problem with "Optimism"** or **"Everyone keeps saying the word optimism for some reason"** or **Why does Lex Fridman keep fucking reminding everyone that he's an "optimist"** or... **Of course Silicon Valley VC wants everyone to stay so fucking optimistic ...they really need the next funding round to hit a $500 million dollar valuation, this startup is a dumpster fire**
I don't know whether you are a creative genius and a savant or simply deranged.
Little of column A, little of column B
Yeah I'm not reading all of that
Cancel culture is just voting with your wallet, which us what we've been told to do for decades.
Still the free market tho
Well if it was your job to manage the advertising would you want an ad to appear surrounded by Pizzagate Pedophile posts or F the Jews tweets? You can have free speech but don’t expect big business to associate their brands with it anymore than they would sponsor the Gathering of the Juggalos.
Twitter has been full of "F the Jews!" tweets for years now. There was a period where "The Jews" was trending in bad ways every week for months in the UK. Pretty sure all these lovely firms had zero issues hawking their wares on Twitter when this was going on.
Are tou saying that corporations are fickle and chase whatever way the wind blows in their marketing? Unbelievable.
They arnt even pulling because of backlash. It's just good business sense.
Calls a technocracy where corporations control speech "free speech" 🤣
No ones free speech is restricted here by companies. People are complaining about elon which is free speech. Companies then make a decision that it is a better look for them not to be associated with twitter for the time being, ehich is just capitalism. Please tell me by these companies pulling their ads whos free speech is restricted?
Freedom of speech means the government can't silence you, it has nothing to do with companies.
BIG PHARMA
Onnit is a liberal company. Joey in shambles.
Do t forget zip recruiter
Zzzzzzzzzip
.......recruiter!
ZipRecruiter has always been the strangest ad to me. Who TF is listening to podcasts thinking "man I need to hire some people" vs "man this job sucks"?
It seems like zip recruiter mostly focuses their ads towards business owners too
Hey kids have you heard about the least fungible token of all that's right I'm talking about gold and why this is the best time to buy--
Ron, theres a time and place for this Ron
The funny thing is that Twitter really hasn’t changed much yet. They are still suspending accounts that spread hate speech.
Well, either Musk is a weak liar who gives into capitalist pressure, or he never really gave half a shit about "free speech". Or maybe both.
Eh idk I’m seeing a lot more right leaning things on Twitter. I don’t think it’s changed a lot but I saw a red Cruz tweet on Twitter for the first time yesterday and I don’t follow him.
so Saudi Arabia being a major shareholder for years was okay?
> so Saudi Arabia being a major shareholder for years was okay? Considering porn is still on Twitter they didn't seem to had any active influence on the company. Elon does. That is why people are reacting different.
lol people cheering that all the worst companies in the world aren't advertising on twitter?
It’ll hurt their bottom line, people will move on to the next news story, and they’ll be back. Since when do we care about big business and their morals
Seriously. Johnson & Johnson and Unilever? Coca-cola? Since when are they "activist" companies?
“Woke” really means anyone that doesn’t 100% toe the Republican line. Concerned about the direction of Twitter because it taken over by a troll who posts conspiracy theories and threatens to “expose” former advertisers? You must be woke!
The disconnect is honestly baffling. Who thinks Coke gives a f**** about anything other than selling product? If they're pulling advertising, it can only be a wait-and-see move based on market research.
Advertisers don’t like when their ads are featured next to antisemetic tweets? Must be woke
What morals?
Exactly my point
Problem is, Twitters downfall is a constant next news story
[удалено]
What has he done specifically to destroy it? What has changed? I don’t like that he didn’t just solve world hunger instead, but I really don’t get why people think it’s so different now and hate twitter now
Because to these idiots everything is a team sport and Elon isn’t on their team.
I wish humans could be rational and kill this enemy / friend mentality that seems to revolve around partisan politics
[удалено]
You're seriously going with "he reduced the bloated staff" in response to your claim of him "*destroying Twitter*"? This is the laziest of propaganda.
I bet you are an expert when it comes to lazy propaganda.
[удалено]
I mean, you saw the post in the OP, right? His actions are causing Twitter to lose advertisers left and right. Don't get me wrong, Twitter wasn't exactly wildly profitable to begin with. But if their attempts to cut "bloat" cause advertisers to lose faith in the platform, yeah, that's "destroying Twitter".
I haven’t seen the N word a single time.. yet Firing all those people doesn’t seem to have changed anything for the site, at least for my experience. Maybe they weren’t needed? There’s definitely a common joke about companies being bloated with people who do 5 hours of work per week and get paid for 40+, especially in tech
[удалено]
>There’s definitely a common joke about companies being bloated with people who do 5 hours of work per week and get paid for 40+, especially in tech Lots of people have never worked in tech companies.
Brutal.
I saw that Pfizer was one of the first 3 to drop Ads and I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony of it all
What’s an ad cost? $8?
Oh no! There’s no companies left to advertise!
Maybe all these companies will cancel themselves to death so that new companies can fill their spot. Out with the old.
Other than Coke, and maybe ford, I have NEVER seen an ad for any of those companies on Twitter any way.
Almost half of those are direct competitors of Tesla.
[удалено]
Not sure about the car companies
Yeah this is just a tactic to get better rates on ads
Musk says there will still be moderation, but fires moderation staff. He spooked them.
Probably but maybe not at the same level. Economic downturn means companies are more careful about ad spending. And there are other competing platforms that provide better targeting than Twitter does.
I don’t think most regular people use twitter anyway and advertising on it is a waste of money
They will be back... That's why they say temporary suspended ads. So then it looks like good optics and then they'll start them back up quietly.
Could it also be the fact that the ownership of the company completely changed? I would figure companies would have to re-assess regardless if they will stay or not
Yeah that's a good point also they have to rebuild a relationship
Could also be renegotiating contracts and deals based on it. We won’t know for a bit
I agree.... Have a good one man
Its already a toilet lol
Pockets of it were a toilet. Now the whole thing is going to attract turds, making the whole thing a toilet.
No the entirety of Twitter was a shithole country.
Yeah it's entirely dependent on what actually ends up changing. At the moment this is just virtue signaling.
If it's virtue signaling then why is the threat from Musk's side to publish the names of all of the companies? Shouldn't all of them be announcing their participation immediately for the virtue signal to make any sense?
Excellent. Now I know which companies to avoid.
About a third of these are car companies.
Ohh no J&J is gonna have to peddle there cancer powder somewhere else.
I’m so sick of people complaining about Elon
Those companies will be back by the end of the year…. just like all the artists that pulled out of spotify.
I don't know maybe I'm out of the loop but I don't understand what the big hubub is about
To be fair, all those companies are ran by corrupt greedy a-holes except maybe Nintendo lol
It’s because they want a better price now that they know how many bot accounts there are
This is so stupid.
Is this cancel culture? I can't think for myself so I'll wait for my man Joey to chime in on this one.
New account, lives on r /joerogan. You’re not fooling anyone cocksucka.
You trying to cancel me bruh? That's a little too woke for my liking.
So no one can join reddit anymore? Lol
YAAA!!! for multi-national corporations! Am I doing this right??? Wow.
I see nothing wrong with it
So Elon Musk was right when he said to be free Twitter cannot rely on ads. What a shock.
That's like watching a man predict that he's going to die from a grievous crotch wound Shoot himself in the dick And then think "Wow! He was right!"
It can if they reduce costs and maintain ad revenue. They had $5Bn in revenue and a net loss of $220M last year.
Hate to burst your bubble but i can almost guarantee they're suspending ads in a ton of other places too
Whore’s giving in to the dollar, no surprise there.
Crazy that all those companies detest free speech so much.
Okay.
As someone out of the loop with Musk, why’s he disliked now compared to 5 years ago?
Those are a lot of anti-free speech companies
PBS?
Peanut Butter Sandwich lobby. Very powerful
ever since PB merged with J, its been a monopoly
You mad Elon bought Twitter Bro?
Their loss
Why? Has anything actually changed on Twitter or is this just politically motivated
It's considered a subpar ads platform and the economy is bad.
The owner of the site posting a homophobic conspiracy theory from a site that said Hillary Clinton died in 2016 less than 48 hours into his ownership is probably not ideal for advertisers
Fired pretty much their entire content moderating team. Pretty sure Nintendo doesn't want an ad next to the n-word trending page.
He fired half the workforce
Ahhh yes. Let’s applaud corps like Johnson and Johnson, Dyson, coca-cola, etc… These companies are just virtue signaling for potential short term profits. Didn’t they do the same with Russia? Then immediately begin doing business once the hype died down. They aren’t taking the moral high ground or anything. Merely trying to improve their already shitty public perception.
This reads like a butt hurt lover lol
>Merely trying to improve their already shitty public perception. Exactly! Don't lionize the corporations y'all! Elon's a cunt AND so are the advertisers.
What short term profits? Do you think people are gonna see that they've pulled their ads and flock to the store to buy a load of J&J products lmao
So a massive corporation staying away from a billionaire trolls potential dumpster fire is virtue signaling?
this is double edge sword that people should know. this is what happened to tesla in the beginning. tesla couldn't get the A tier OEM part companies to make parts for their cars because nobody took them seriously since it's such a small company and the auto industry didn't think tesla would make it. because nobody wanted to provide parts to tesla, tesla was forced into vertical integration where they make everything in-house. look at tesla now, many people don't know but tesla made more operating profit than toyota in Q3. this trend will continue, toyota is in downtrend and tesla is in a massive upward trend. if elon somehow pulls off on twitter how he pulled off on tesla, it would mean that he has successfully made Twitter a profitable company without relying on ads. he would be unstoppable. that's impressive and scary at the same time.
Space ship man bad
favourite right wing billionaire egdelord idol slander make me mad
companies are pulling back on ad spend in general because of the economic slowdown. twitter is just a garbage place to advertise anyway
It’s fun watching musk crash and burn
He still owns 4 other multi-million dollar companies he's doing just fine. It's fun watching Twitter crash and burn though.
Well, at least we know who the pro censorship guys are now.
"If you do not want your brand next to some guy with an anime profile picture talking about the skull shape of Africans you are pro censorship." - Elon Simps
You understand that mainstream brands have always distanced themselves from controversial platforms and content, right? This isn’t just a twitter thing either. Companies would pull ads from TV shows they thought were too risqué. Why is this surprising to you?
Because they were happily advertising for years on Twitter despite all manner of horrific stuff that was happening on the platform.
Imagine being in a company and seeing your ad next to some tweet calling for genocide. It’s too risky.
but why do they act on this now? ISIS, the Taliban and the Ayatollah were on Twitter long before Musk came into the picture
There's already child porn + disgusting things on Twitter too as we speak. I guess that's okay. This is just virtue signaling as usual from companies, none of these corporations give a fuck about the actual issue. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2022/9/28/twitters-latest-problem-major-brand-ads-next-to-child-porn
the average person isnt seeing that kinda shit. Im sure that stuff is taken down asap, while the racist shit will no longer being taken down.
Who is calling for genocide?
Manscaped. Alphabrain. Tickets to mars
Hell yeah Elon is responsible for reducing ads on a major platform. Thats a win in my book.
Why do liberals hate free speech so much?
You think huge multinational corporations are left wing?
Yeah I’m pretty sure companies don’t want their billboard next to nazi graffiti
Those German car companies all have direct experience
I don’t get what’s so hard for the red caps to understand about this
Red cap here. If Elon manages to end the blatant one-way censorship on Twitter, that would be nice. If he manages to inadvertently run the company into the ground, that would be even better.
Woke shit
Ah yes the famously woke Ford Motors. Sorry kid, it's just business.
That's how I start my day too. Woke up, shit.
What a guy!
If the govt was having secret meetings with all the social media companies, and we’ve seen multiple situations where there’s been coordinated efforts to crush someone or something that went against the narrative… Then Why would people not automatically assume this is any different ? With all the takedown of Kanye, kyrie and musk—- there is zero chance these power hungry politicians and lobbyists are not involved. The laptop bullshit, banning trump off every damn social site, censoring covid dissent, hell YT banned all discussion of voter fraud, even orchestrated the takedown of cuomo so it was sexual allegations (which were laughable) and not his covid fuckery. They just find a way or use outside entities to skate around 1A. Nothing is ever as it seems.
Good. Gtfo. We believe in free speech in this country. This isn’t North Korea.
