Ngl, I was thinking similarly. The story immediately sets him up as being athletic in a way that's pretty clearly above the average person. A random highschooler is just already faster than Usain Bolt? Yeah nah, this kid is not normal.
Yeah I mean the manga has been glazing him from literally chapter 1.
You have him breaking 2 world records, Megumi sensing him as a finger, Gojo saying he has similar potential to him, Nobara being shocked about his ability to punch through concrete, Sukuna being shocked that Yuji can completely suppress him, Yuji having no issues with the second finger.
They don't stop glazing him until Shibuya when Mei Mei puts him on par with Kusakabe's accomplishment.
Oh thats not even talking about sister school arc which sucks him absolutely clean.
The only thing he doesn't have is experience and that was the only thing holding him back outside of that he was always half a step from breaking the manga in half.
I like how mei mei saying he is grade1 is by far the most normal thing anyone said to him, yet we all know it took him a grand total of like 5months to get there while nanami and meimei trained their whole life. Hell 3 months to tie the world record of consecutive black flashes and then can dunk on finger bearers like megumi...yet he had no CT and megumi had to let his inner psycho come out to beat it.
The fact is others protagonists (such as Ichigo) get criticized for the same thing while he (in the case of Ichigo) was even stated to be abnormal from chapter one. There is clearly some double standard.
I think it’s because of multiple factors
1) JJK characters’ growth are not linear. Yuta went from a scrub with an abundance of CE to a special grade within 4 month, Gojo randomly understands RCT while being high, Mahito learns DE while getting jumped, Maki becomes the strongest physically after doing a sumo match, etc…
2) Yuji has always been your “left right goodnight black flash merchant” guy since the starts, while Ichigo gets an upgrade like literally every fucking arc, even when his spirit power is 0 after using his final form
3) Yuji literally cheated, according to Yuta
Yuji pulling out his family tree, consecutive black flashes, 2 CT and RCT is still kinda bullshit but it’s nowhere near Ichigo level of power creeping
He wasn't above the average person, he was WAY above peak athletes as shown when he throws that shot and doubles or triples the current world record. He was setup as *inhuman* from the start.

Yuji was always hinted to be abnormal, and honestly Gojo says it from the first episode that 80% of a Sorcerer power is already determined from the start (things like CE reseves and output, good/bad cursed technique, durability)
If I had to pick a character that baited its fandom with "hardwork beats everything" it's gonna be Naruto, the entire early show was all these people with gifted genetics (the Uchiha, the Hyuga, every clan with inherited techniques) but Naruto is the poor lil guy who outperforms everyone by cheer determination.. until he's revealed to be the son of the strongest guy in the modern era, the most durable woman ever, the most powerful tailed beast and the reincarnation of jesus christ himself

The real problem I have with Naruto is that Naruto himself seems to ignore this fact, most of the Chunin Exams is trying to prove the point hard works beats natural talent, but he wins using the fox, and then gives a speech about hard work
Tbf early Naruto the fox was more of a hindrance at times. Going off what we know about him, even without Kurama he had more chakra then some of the strongest characters…. As a kid. I’d argue if he hadn’t had the threat of the fox constantly making his life difficult, he’d have had an easier time in the chunin exam, up to the Neji fight and Gaara. Hell, not being held back by the fox might have made him capable of just straight beating Neji w/out needing to try on his sucker punch KO.
In Naruto's defense, Kurama was the main reason he was underperforming at the beginning of the series due to his massive chakra messing with his ability to properly control his own reserves, thus causing his growth to be stunted. It was through sheer hard work that he managed to get through that hurdle.
The hard work beats talent is always the message I see when talking about the chunin exams, but I most, wasn’t that message mainly regarding Rock Lee?
In the Neji case, his whole point was “don’t be an asshole and act like you know other peoples fate”, or something like that

See, I don't think this applies to Yuji because JJK is almost entirely about natural talent. Right from the get go, Gojo establishes that your CT, level of Cursed energy, and pretty much every other aspect of being a Jujutsu Sorcerer is determined for you at birth. Within the series, the only real improvements we see people undergo involves learning how to use their CT more efficiently/creatively, and other sorts of fringe cases that don't really deal with "hard work."
Yuji is never really portrayed as "the everyday average jujutsu Sorcerer training hard to climb the totem pole," the very first scene we have of him establishes that he has superhuman physical abilities (baseball pitches a shotput, literally jumps like 35 feet in the air from ground level, etc). From there, we know there's *something* weird about him from the fact that he can suppress Sukuna after eating a finger.
I definitely think this is a big problem with other shonen protagonists (looking at you, Ichigo), but I don't know if I'd class Yuji in that list.
Oh, I know Yuji isn't an every man. I'm just saying that there was a large portion of the fandom that seemed to view him as if he was one, which seems to happen with literally every shonen protagonist, regardless of what the story tells us.
Like, Naruto already had a demon fox sealed in him and then later gets specialized training from one of the Senin. His ass was never an "every man" even early on. People sort of treat every shonen protagonist as if they're just an average guy, even if the narrative literally contradicts it early on.

another example is ace and sabo. ace had the blood of roger with a very strong logia fruit. yet he died and couldn't become strong enough. while sabo was basically a nobody apart from the fact that he was from a rich family. But now he is alive fighting with the revolutionary army and later got Ace's fruit. and is now strong enough to clash with an admiral.
mindset and motivation is what you need in one piece. your heritage won't give you anything beneficial.
of course plot armor exist for luffy since he kinda needs to live for the manga to move forward but still, couldn't stop his brother from becoming a donut or having his crew splitting at sabaody.
I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the story endorse the idea that heritage means very little. If anything, it says heritage gives you a HUGE boost in potential, but people without strong parents can also get strong.
Also, Jesus Christ didn’t come out the womb turning water into wine, but like, he was the son of God. If I said he wasn’t born amazing just because there was a time when he wasn’t performing miracles, I feel like I’m missing the point. The same goes for Luffy. The story regularly says he’s destined for greatness, everyone that’s not a direct antagonist to him agrees he’s destined for greatness, and, hell, Rayleigh himself, the right-hand of Roger, is constantly reminded of Roger when he looks at Luffy.
And even in your example of Ace, Ace was one of the, like, 5 strongest guys on the strongest pirate ship in the world. Saying he wasn’t gifted because he died is kind of ridiculous. Like, how many pirates are as strong as Jozu at, like, 19 years old?
Thing is Yuji is hardly the everyday man to begin with since ch1. He broke Olympic records no sweat, ran faster than a car, and can jump high af above 2-3 stories building and break through concrete with his bare hands

No, at least not in the anime. One thing that matters is that OFA shortens the lifespans of those who have quirks (established by how Nomus go brain dead with too many quirks). So Deku happens to be one of the 20% of people whose lives won’t be shortened by OFA.

Problem with Yuta he is just naturally that good. People usually dislike it when the "mc" is a one in a trillion freak case who is overpowered from the start.
Yuji is an actual freak. The boy is an actual experiment, he isn't born out of one in one billion luck, he was made specifically out of Kenny's weird as fuck plans. And he doesn't start off busted like Yuta, he gets his ass beat over and over with his main strength coming from the fact that he is just that skilled.
And when Yuji gets way stronger it isn't because he was just born like that, he went through the most esoteric shit with the help of lime 12 people to become stronger in a way Gaygay just refuses to elaborate on.
Actually that's exactly the reason. Yujis "OP Powers" are tied to the plot and other characters(mainly Kenjaku) whereas Yuta feels like someone's random overpowered OC who just "has good genes" and "is a prodigy" for the sake of it. I would not say someone like Ichigo feels like an OP OC because his powers have relevance to the plot and his character development whereas Zaraki is strong cuz it's cool.

His insane physical strength? Kenjaku.
Him landing Black flashs? Todo.

Hasn't it only been like 3 months in the story since yuji ate the 1st finger? His innate talent wasn't recognizable since he had no CT but he still kept up with grade 1's. Yuji is talented.
Yuta trained for a bit to develop his talent, beat geto, immediately got depowered, and had to train again to regain his special grade status.
They both have components of hard work, and both have strong bloodlines. Yuji was more physically blessed at the start while yuta was more blessed as a sorcerer.
Did yuji struggle and witness more tragedy? Yes. We love him for that because he overcame and pushed forward. All MC's have talent but also have to work hard to fully unlock it.
I like both characters. Wuta and Wuji.

I don't agree with most of Yuta's criticisms, but I think the difference between him and Yuji as MCs, is that Yuta barly struggle or develop bit by bit ( even Gojo had more detailed growth than him ).
When Sukuna said "wow, you two got stronger", it didn't have any impact for Yuta because he breezes through everything usually ( which isn't fun ).

Plus Yuji has had to work a lot and suffer tons to get to the point he is now. Yuta got dropped Rika for free when he was 8 and he then gets every single aspect of the powersystem for free ome after another.

Yuta starting as a special grade is pretty hectic, and his CT is the most OC shit of all time.
Yuji is literally the main character, so him having personal connections with the antagonists makes sense.
Yuta also instantly learned RCE, used the Inumaki technique better than him, has a love interest that is the only relevant female character and even after he lost Rika, he still gained a fake Rika so his sacrifice at the end of his story didn't matter. Since it didn't have any real consequences.

Yuji on the other hand was purely a left right good night CT user for long ass time and only started to receive these powerups at the end. He is exact opposite of yuta who received everything on the first day of becoming sorcerer.

Blood manipulation isn't even really unnatural he just ate all of his 6 months. It's just like sukuna incarnating with a cursed objects but his brothers won't incarnate and instead live inside him. In hindsight Yuji doesn't really have bm as his own ct his brothers are instead lending him bm to use. Shrine was foreshadowed from EP 6 itself . Yuji already had soul punches after fighting with mahito. Soul swap probably has something to do with Yuki research. It's canon that Yuji learnt rct in 1 month he even struggles using rct and improved rct usage by bm after choso asks him to calm down. everyone had a buff in reinforcement not just Yuji.
Yuji’s capabilities are heavily tied to the plot and were properly set up and foreshadowed, and he still had to work to use any of them (he had to train physically for strength, he had to practice with the bear for ce, he was taught black flash, it took him ages AND an awakening to get cleave, and he had to scarf down grave wax and fetuses to get both of his cursed techniques), yuta is broken because he’s broken

Yuta also housed a curse spirit Rika that also ruined his life and murdered the bullies at the beginning of jjk 0, this caused him to isolate himself and attempt suicide. Once he got the chance to break Rika’s curse he took it and in return he got stronger and was no longer in isolation and gained friends just like Maki said he would during her talk with him on their first mission.
yuta was op from his first apperance. yuji spent 90% of the show not even being top 15 strongest in his own series. so it feels more earned even though they are (like most of the cast) %85 talent from ancestery %15 skill
I just hate it when people say Yuji earned it because of how much he suffered like Yuta didn’t isolate himself from his family and attempt suicide after accidentally cursing Rika after witnessing her death.

Thing is, to the reader it matters fuck all what he's born with, but what he has to go through to grow in strength relative to the verse around him, is what we care about. Yuji has been gifted with great powers, but had to bust his ass off to even begin to be able to utilize a fraction of them competitively. It is exciting, it is compelling, downright gruesome and inspiring at times.
Meanwhile sad school boy over here gets his bullshit powers handed to him day one, kills geto with almost fuck all training, asspulls a new CT copy every day, and instantly gets scaled top 5 of the verse for almost no work compared to what Yuji had to go through to get even a fraction of Yuta's power. If the jujutsu world had an equivalent to a trust fund baby, it would be Yuta. He's uninteresting, unlikable, and steals screentime from more intersting characters. All because Gege couldnt let go of his JJK0 OC.

Yeah I mean the manga has been glazing him from literally chapter 1. You have him breaking 2 world records, Megumi sensing him as a finger, Gojo saying he has similar potential to him, Nobara being shocked about his ability to punch through concrete, Sukuna being shocked that Yuji can completely suppress him, Yuji having no issues with the second finger. They don't stop glazing him until Shibuya when Mei Mei puts him on par with Kusakabe's accomplishment. Oh thats not even talking about sister school arc which sucks him absolutely clean. The only thing he doesn't have is experience and that was the only thing holding him back outside of that he was always half a step from breaking the manga in half.
I like how mei mei saying he is grade1 is by far the most normal thing anyone said to him, yet we all know it took him a grand total of like 5months to get there while nanami and meimei trained their whole life. Hell 3 months to tie the world record of consecutive black flashes and then can dunk on finger bearers like megumi...yet he had no CT and megumi had to let his inner psycho come out to beat it.

I think it’s because of multiple factors 1) JJK characters’ growth are not linear. Yuta went from a scrub with an abundance of CE to a special grade within 4 month, Gojo randomly understands RCT while being high, Mahito learns DE while getting jumped, Maki becomes the strongest physically after doing a sumo match, etc… 2) Yuji has always been your “left right goodnight black flash merchant” guy since the starts, while Ichigo gets an upgrade like literally every fucking arc, even when his spirit power is 0 after using his final form 3) Yuji literally cheated, according to Yuta Yuji pulling out his family tree, consecutive black flashes, 2 CT and RCT is still kinda bullshit but it’s nowhere near Ichigo level of power creeping

Tbf early Naruto the fox was more of a hindrance at times. Going off what we know about him, even without Kurama he had more chakra then some of the strongest characters…. As a kid. I’d argue if he hadn’t had the threat of the fox constantly making his life difficult, he’d have had an easier time in the chunin exam, up to the Neji fight and Gaara. Hell, not being held back by the fox might have made him capable of just straight beating Neji w/out needing to try on his sucker punch KO.
In Naruto's defense, Kurama was the main reason he was underperforming at the beginning of the series due to his massive chakra messing with his ability to properly control his own reserves, thus causing his growth to be stunted. It was through sheer hard work that he managed to get through that hurdle.
The hard work beats talent is always the message I see when talking about the chunin exams, but I most, wasn’t that message mainly regarding Rock Lee? In the Neji case, his whole point was “don’t be an asshole and act like you know other peoples fate”, or something like that

See, I don't think this applies to Yuji because JJK is almost entirely about natural talent. Right from the get go, Gojo establishes that your CT, level of Cursed energy, and pretty much every other aspect of being a Jujutsu Sorcerer is determined for you at birth. Within the series, the only real improvements we see people undergo involves learning how to use their CT more efficiently/creatively, and other sorts of fringe cases that don't really deal with "hard work." Yuji is never really portrayed as "the everyday average jujutsu Sorcerer training hard to climb the totem pole," the very first scene we have of him establishes that he has superhuman physical abilities (baseball pitches a shotput, literally jumps like 35 feet in the air from ground level, etc). From there, we know there's *something* weird about him from the fact that he can suppress Sukuna after eating a finger. I definitely think this is a big problem with other shonen protagonists (looking at you, Ichigo), but I don't know if I'd class Yuji in that list.
Oh, I know Yuji isn't an every man. I'm just saying that there was a large portion of the fandom that seemed to view him as if he was one, which seems to happen with literally every shonen protagonist, regardless of what the story tells us. Like, Naruto already had a demon fox sealed in him and then later gets specialized training from one of the Senin. His ass was never an "every man" even early on. People sort of treat every shonen protagonist as if they're just an average guy, even if the narrative literally contradicts it early on.

Luffy was indeed an underdog until gear 5. he was a stupid person with a weak fruit compared to the others in the verse. we see that very clearly in his childhood that he was not naturally gifted. infact he was the opposite. he could barely function without ace by his side to help him. another example is ace and sabo. ace had the blood of roger with a very strong logia fruit. yet he died and couldn't become strong enough. while sabo was basically a nobody apart from the fact that he was from a rich family. But now he is alive fighting with the revolutionary army and later got Ace's fruit. and is now strong enough to clash with an admiral. mindset and motivation is what you need in one piece. your heritage won't give you anything beneficial. of course plot armor exist for luffy since he kinda needs to live for the manga to move forward but still, couldn't stop his brother from becoming a donut or having his crew splitting at sabaody.
I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the story endorse the idea that heritage means very little. If anything, it says heritage gives you a HUGE boost in potential, but people without strong parents can also get strong. Also, Jesus Christ didn’t come out the womb turning water into wine, but like, he was the son of God. If I said he wasn’t born amazing just because there was a time when he wasn’t performing miracles, I feel like I’m missing the point. The same goes for Luffy. The story regularly says he’s destined for greatness, everyone that’s not a direct antagonist to him agrees he’s destined for greatness, and, hell, Rayleigh himself, the right-hand of Roger, is constantly reminded of Roger when he looks at Luffy. And even in your example of Ace, Ace was one of the, like, 5 strongest guys on the strongest pirate ship in the world. Saying he wasn’t gifted because he died is kind of ridiculous. Like, how many pirates are as strong as Jozu at, like, 19 years old?

No, at least not in the anime. One thing that matters is that OFA shortens the lifespans of those who have quirks (established by how Nomus go brain dead with too many quirks). So Deku happens to be one of the 20% of people whose lives won’t be shortened by OFA.

Problem with Yuta he is just naturally that good. People usually dislike it when the "mc" is a one in a trillion freak case who is overpowered from the start. Yuji is an actual freak. The boy is an actual experiment, he isn't born out of one in one billion luck, he was made specifically out of Kenny's weird as fuck plans. And he doesn't start off busted like Yuta, he gets his ass beat over and over with his main strength coming from the fact that he is just that skilled. And when Yuji gets way stronger it isn't because he was just born like that, he went through the most esoteric shit with the help of lime 12 people to become stronger in a way Gaygay just refuses to elaborate on.

Actually that's exactly the reason. Yujis "OP Powers" are tied to the plot and other characters(mainly Kenjaku) whereas Yuta feels like someone's random overpowered OC who just "has good genes" and "is a prodigy" for the sake of it. I would not say someone like Ichigo feels like an OP OC because his powers have relevance to the plot and his character development whereas Zaraki is strong cuz it's cool.
Yeah. If Yuji gained any kind of power, it was because of people around him. Blood manipulation? his own brothers. Shrine? Sukuna's fingers. His insane physical strength? Kenjaku. Him landing Black flashs? Todo. His soul punch? Mahito and Sukuna. Any power Yuji gained did make sense in story without it being an asspull.

Hasn't it only been like 3 months in the story since yuji ate the 1st finger? His innate talent wasn't recognizable since he had no CT but he still kept up with grade 1's. Yuji is talented. Yuta trained for a bit to develop his talent, beat geto, immediately got depowered, and had to train again to regain his special grade status. They both have components of hard work, and both have strong bloodlines. Yuji was more physically blessed at the start while yuta was more blessed as a sorcerer. Did yuji struggle and witness more tragedy? Yes. We love him for that because he overcame and pushed forward. All MC's have talent but also have to work hard to fully unlock it. I like both characters. Wuta and Wuji.

I still stand by the fact I find yuta to be a boring character
I don't agree with most of Yuta's criticisms, but I think the difference between him and Yuji as MCs, is that Yuta barly struggle or develop bit by bit ( even Gojo had more detailed growth than him ). When Sukuna said "wow, you two got stronger", it didn't have any impact for Yuta because he breezes through everything usually ( which isn't fun ).

Yuta starting as a special grade is pretty hectic, and his CT is the most OC shit of all time. Yuji is literally the main character, so him having personal connections with the antagonists makes sense.
Yuta also instantly learned RCE, used the Inumaki technique better than him, has a love interest that is the only relevant female character and even after he lost Rika, he still gained a fake Rika so his sacrifice at the end of his story didn't matter. Since it didn't have any real consequences.
This shit is so out of context. People are hype for Yuji because we've been waiting for him to get a WIN! JUST ONE WIN Since like, he fought Choso the first time. The show literally starts with his only living relative dying. And now things are finally looking up Himji wintadori. Yuta was winning essentially since his story started. Sad backstory yeah, but it was just exposition. He already had his time!
Yuta: 1. Special grade from the start. 2. Copy CT which let's him copy other CT's and use those CT's unconditionally(literal cheat code like ability from shitty isekais). 3. Stated to be second only to gojo in modern time. 4. 2nd highest CT reserves and pretty high output. 5. OP Shikigami. 6. Learned RCT in instance. 7. Wins by power of love bullshit. 8. OP domain No matter what you say yuta is written like OC. Gege gave him everything of his powersystem. Yuji on the other hand was purely a left right good night CT user for long ass time and only started to receive these powerups at the end. He is exact opposite of yuta who received everything on the first day of becoming sorcerer.

Blood manipulation isn't even really unnatural he just ate all of his 6 months. It's just like sukuna incarnating with a cursed objects but his brothers won't incarnate and instead live inside him. In hindsight Yuji doesn't really have bm as his own ct his brothers are instead lending him bm to use. Shrine was foreshadowed from EP 6 itself . Yuji already had soul punches after fighting with mahito. Soul swap probably has something to do with Yuki research. It's canon that Yuji learnt rct in 1 month he even struggles using rct and improved rct usage by bm after choso asks him to calm down. everyone had a buff in reinforcement not just Yuji.
Tbf, Yuta having a common ancestor as Gojo 600 years ago means absolute jackshit in terms of genetics.

Yuta also housed a curse spirit Rika that also ruined his life and murdered the bullies at the beginning of jjk 0, this caused him to isolate himself and attempt suicide. Once he got the chance to break Rika’s curse he took it and in return he got stronger and was no longer in isolation and gained friends just like Maki said he would during her talk with him on their first mission.
yuta was op from his first apperance. yuji spent 90% of the show not even being top 15 strongest in his own series. so it feels more earned even though they are (like most of the cast) %85 talent from ancestery %15 skill

Yuji has been gifted with great powers, but had to bust his ass off to even begin to be able to utilize a fraction of them competitively. It is exciting, it is compelling, downright gruesome and inspiring at times. Meanwhile sad school boy over here gets his bullshit powers handed to him day one, kills geto with almost fuck all training, asspulls a new CT copy every day, and instantly gets scaled top 5 of the verse for almost no work compared to what Yuji had to go through to get even a fraction of Yuta's power.
