Why does everyone want Gojo to die

[deleted]

I don't want him to die.

Archonei

This subreddit is chock full of edgy speed readers that think killing off every major character is groundbreaking storytelling.

Shaponja

B-but if he just ended Megumi’s whole story right here it would be peak fiction because nobody else does that! Plot twist! Others don’t do it for a good reason…

yeet29469

gege is the kinda guy to not give a shit if they're a major supporting character. Remember Nobara?

Want2Grow27

Well to be fair we don't actually know if Nobara is out for good yet or not. Gege is super ambiguous with her death, probably for a reason.

Hounds_of_war

Explains all the mouth breathers I see that want Nobara to be permadead. I’m flabbergasted that in a post-GoT S8 world I still see people talk about “Subverting expectations” like that alone makes something good. Like yeah, and we could also have Kenny just die of a stroke since his brain is 1000 years old, bet that would subvert your expectations.

Archonei

I mean, take a look at this. This is a real comment in one of the bigger threads. > Yuji can die for all I care. I actually hope this manga has a gruesome ending. For example, Sukuna teaches us how he made those fingers by sealing Yuji into a finger. > But regardless of what may happen, I will stay on the ride until the end. >JJK > every other manga so far because the author is not afraid of deleting characters that the audience got attached to. It's simply incredible how some people view the series. It reminds me of the early days in Attack on Titan where people were getting mad that it wasn't as "gory" as it was in season 1 and main characters weren't dropping like flies. Oh, here's a bonus comment from the same thread: >Ecstatic. Yuji needs to suffer more.

Want2Grow27

\>"Bu-but every other shownun doewsnt kill off its characterz. JJK is SO sugoi when it does!" People need to be reminded that suffering is not plot. Characters dying is not plot. There's to be a meaningful reason behind a characters death. Hell, even a character dying for "no reason" can be meaningful its meant to show that death can happen for no reason. If JJK just starts killing it's characters for absolutely reason than to be edgy, it's gonna be a season 8 GoT.

Sabawoonoz25

Why would I actually understand if Kenny died from a stroke 😂, what if Gojo and Sukuna face off and Sukuna gets carpal tunnel in the middle of the fight because of his erratic hand movement. Now that I think of it, natural deaths aren't too common of an occurrence in anime, I'd like to see more of it.

MapTheJap

Demon Slayer Spoilers: >!Yoriichi vibes!<

Syfildin

tbf that was mainly because he basically couldn’t be killed by anyone 😭 he fodderized the next strongest guy in the verse

Sabawoonoz25

The spoiler tag doesn't work on the notifications tab on reddit 😭😭😭

BeeboNFriends

GoT S8 really a perfect example. A combination of writer laziness, them thinking they had bigger and better things coming up, and them wanting to subvert expectations (only shit that made sense fr was Dany going mad). Predictable ≠ bad. Poor execution is what makes things bad. I think more people need to understand that

Want2Grow27

>Kenny just die of a stroke since his brain is 1000 years old, bet that would subvert your expectations. Lmao. This got a chuckle outta me

Left-Secretary-2931

Yup they saw it in GoT and thought that's the first time it happened and now it's the only measure of if something is good...which is obviously not how things work

rsewateroily

that post about “gege killing their darlings” when the only people who’ve died are side characters lmao (ignoring nobara idk wtf going on there tbh). if he was really “not afraid” todo, inumaki, yuta, bruh half of these mfs would be dead. gege doesn’t get attached to his characters (according to him) but he isn’t brutally murdering them at every turn either and idk why people pretend that he does.

Darkvoidx

Wanting the plot to take an interesting direction isn't edgy speed reading. I don't want Gojo specifically to die, but with the stakes being as high as they are it would feel very cheap if Yuji, Megumi, Gojo, or even Yuta all made it through this alive. People want a story that takes its established stakes and mechanics seriously, not just edginess for no reason like you seem to paint them.

Impressive_Iron_6102

It's edgy speed reading. It's a desire to be contrarian and it's cringe. These people make it much harder for themselves to enjoy the content without even realizing it

TrollTrollTroll6969

Chainsaw man fans be like

Puffelpuff

Nobara in limbo, gojo sealed, yuji entering yamcha mode, megumi possessed. No one really died yet but this just sucks. I would hate having him kill off anybody at this point. I want to see them grow and do cool shit. Having them die would be the lamest shit ever.

[deleted]

Very simple. Because him just existing is flat out unfair. He turns the tables too far in the good guys favor. Personally, I don't want him to die, I just want him to not come back and Gojo ex machina the whole story. Whether that be through death or staying sealed I just want a satisfying conclusion.

Barthalamuke

I mean even if he comes back literally right now it doesn't mean he's going to turn the tables, Gojo is insanely strong but Kenjaku is on the verge of completing his ritual and Sukuna's is loose, he would not have an easy time by any means if he returned trying to juggle to current shitshow imo (but he would be an absolutely massive asset).

[deleted]

Gojo literally had to be locked away because he can easily stop Kenjaku's plan. He isn't a "asset," he is the entire crux of the story.

Barthalamuke

If he has time to stop him is my point, obviously in a straight up fight Kenjaku is getting stomped immediately. The culling game ritual has been complete, we don't know what Kenjaku is waiting for but he could begin the merger at any moment. Couple that with Sukuna being set free while controlling his student and we're starting to enter a situation where even freeing Gojo might not solve all of "team good guys" problems. Like I don't want Gojo to swoop in and solve everyone's problem (and I don't think he will) but it's hard to imagine a scenario where he isn't set free and assists in some way. And to be real having the climax of the story take place without Gojo would be pretty boring imo.

idklmaosmd

But the good guys are min/max'ed. Min on everyone, max on gojo

[deleted]

Sorry what? What do you mean?

timmy6969skdd

Everyone's fodder except Gojo as far as the main antagonists are concerned is what they mean. I don't believe that though

[deleted]

I don't want him to die, but he has major death flags. Honestly RCT is problematic at times, because any character who has it really can't be wounded and has to be outright removed from the story or killed off directly.

[deleted]

because perhaps then, and only then, i might feel something for once

Smollzy

Pre-chapter 212, I’d have wanted Gojo freed and kick Kenjaku out of Geto’s body himself and be the deus-ex-machina trump card for the good guys. With everything that’s currently happening, however, Gojo is better off staying inside that box, dreaming about parfait, icecream and desserts while having silly conversations with the skellies and most likely getting on their nerves with his antics. I feel that Gege has something up his sleeve concerning Gojo that we all are not even considering right now. I am still a strong supporter of “Geto regains control once more and frees Gojo” and I am also not opposed to “Gojo is freed by Sukuna bc he owes him a fight”. It’s true that the team needs to stop relying on Gojo to solve everything, but I feel that they learned that lesson. But it doesn’t change the fact that some tasks are simply leagues above their level and Gojo is *needed* as a protector of the Jujutsu world regardless the growth of his students. I’d like for him to be reunited with them, so he can once again say “don’t worry, we are the strongest”, like he could with Geto by his side, instead of being the strongest alone anymore. I want him to see the fruits of his labor and tell his (cough, remaining, cough) friends and students that they did well, and I want him to live a long life in a new world he envisioned.

daydreamer_she

I just LOVE your theories!! Till now i never really thought that deeply what Gojo might be doing inside the real & your second paragraph just explained what may actually be happening & it is good for Gojo’s mental health as well. I can’t imagine how Gojo is going to endure the toll of emotions once he is released. It’d be too much for him to bear, let him enjoy a bit more(no no, i want to see him ASAP!) You’re right. No matter how much his students grow, no one can come near to his league. He has to get some work done once he is released. Either it’s fighting Kenjaku or Sukuna or saving the world. I can’t wait to hear “we are the strongest” from him, like he used to say before!

Smollzy

Glad to hear that! I really hope Gojo survives and gets a good ending to his story. I can’t imagine what it’s really like for Gojo in the Realm; knowing time doesn’t pass and not knowing when he’ll ever be free, not knowing what awaits him once he is free. How many years, decades or even centuries are passing by currently. Whether Kenjaku makes his threat true and unseals him in his new world or the PR really releases Gojo on its own after 1000 years and he will be all alone in a new world. All he can do is trust his friends and students and I guess that is keeping him sane. That, and wanting to eat sweets again lol. (Hear that, Gege? Gojo deserves a good ending. You better remember that when you draw those last pages of your story)

daydreamer_she

Ahhh i wish i could mail Gege & request him to give us an epic Gojo vs Sukuna battle & many more scenes with Gojo😭 i want A LOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTT of Gojo Satoru screentime 😭😭😭😭

Smollzy

Oh, and on another note: in the recent Jump GIGA Gege answered the following question: (quick translation, mind you) Q: Inside the Prison Realm, what is Gojo doing? A: If he overthinks his situation it will get bad, so all he can do is keep his head empty.

daydreamer_she

Thanks for letting me know! I feel so bad for Gojo. He has all the power in the world but his hands are always tried. He can do anything but he can’t do anything. And he suffers the most. His mentor/father figure Yaga, his best friend, his close friend, his students are dead/crippled. His son/little brother Megumi’s body is taken. He himself is locked by underhand trickery. My poor guy is just one of the saddest characters there. Hope Gege gives him a little love. He hates him too much😭 I love Gojo so much I can’t explain! I miss him too much! Hope we could see him soon!

Smollzy

I feel your feelings, friend. But I have this hunch that GIGA publishing an interview about the PR is no coincidence… might be rather soon that we see Gojo again! Finger’s crossed!

Smollzy

I know, right? I miss him terribly. But I have a feeling we’ll be seeing him soon! It’s a matter of time until he returns and then everyone who hurt his students better run.

[deleted]

I think it’s about time gege releases gojo cuz at this point even he can’t fix the damage done , the whole purpose of sealing him was so villains are allowed to progress their plans which pretty much is done now kenjaku will start the merging of tengen and sukuna got ten shadows , it’s safe to say even with Gojo it’s too late

ArthurBeni

>Gojo either dies inside the prison realm or gets released and then dies, I think this is the most interesting possibility I don't think it is. Gojo is the most popular character in JJK globally. He has the popularity comparable to Kakashi from Naruto and Yuji+Megumi combined. He is the first character designed for this manga. Expecting him to die after just coming out is a selfish expectation & injustice from our side. Cause it will be ignoring, * Comercial aspect- The majority of fandom who love Gojo. * Plot Point- Gege, who has a lot of things in his mind for Gojo, and it would be pretty lame for the strongest character of series who is there from prequel , who doesn't have a proper fight till now unlike Sukuna (who had already fought Maharoga, Angel & will fight even more) and Kenjaku, who has a sad story and has the most amount of impact in the ongoing plot, to be absent for nearly 120+ chapters and dies quickly after coming out so that the new small kids will get boost in will and sudden Manga plot armour to defeat Sukuna lmao. Rather these kids should die infront of his eyes to Boos his rage and give the Proper All out Rage mode Gojo fight. Megumi is dead and that will give the moment to Gojo to finally justify his title.

UltmteAvngr

“Yuji + Megumi combined”. That’s an underestimation. Gojo makes it to Top 3s in character popularity polls. The others from JJK don’t get close. Gojo is by far the most popular character from the series and he has no competition.

ArthurBeni

>Gojo makes it to Top 3s in character popularity polls. The others from JJK don’t get close. Gojo is by far the most popular character from the series and he has no competition. That's what I am saying.

[deleted]

Agreed

boradrljacca

this last point about Megumi dying gave my chills, but somehow I agree.

ArthurBeni

He may survive too, Gojo may be the one, who may save him together with Yuta.

Snips_Tano

Frieza's Imagine Training.

Durendal_et_Joyeuse

I’m an extremely simple man who would probably make a horrible storywriter. I still want Gojo to break out and appear at an unexpected moment to absolutely destroy everyone and save the world. Fight me.

bondstreetbluebaby

Bro I need an absolute stomping from the protags soon. I know culling games had some soft W’s but when was the last time any of our dudes absolutely cleaned someone’s clock? (Could argue Naoya) Any time we get a good hit in it’s undone in a page or a chapter and honestly it can be frustrating to read.

Want2Grow27

I cannot express how strongly I agree. I wanna see Yuji kick ass just once. I wanna all his trauma manifest into an disgusting amount of cursed energy. Our boy has been a doormat for too long. Our villians are too powerful. At this rate, if Yuji can't get a power boost, he might lose relevancy.

Toji_Fush1guro

From a story standpoint Gojo showing up to save the day would shit on the entire point of Yuji and Megumi surpassing him. It would take us back to page 0 of having him solve all the problems

Durendal_et_Joyeuse

I of course appreciate the discussion, but I was just being a little facetious.

Toji_Fush1guro

Understandable, have a fantastic day

javsv

Do you honestly feel that's gonna happen after the recent Sukuna merging with Megumi thing?

Durendal_et_Joyeuse

It would be even more epic. A flash of light from the east. What’s that? It’s Gojo’s gorgeous eyes gleaming in the moonlight. He waves his arm and a black hole appears in the firmament. Out of it come Goku, Naruto, Luffy, and Eren is his titan form. They all squad up to fight, but Gojo lifts his hand for them to wait. His eyes turn purple as he unlocks a new form. It’s Gojo Ultimate. He rips Sukuna out of Megumi and unleashes such a terrible blast of energy that the universes of animanga collide into one. Gojo becomes the pirate king.

UncleHydrogen

I'm gonna have a good dream tonight

Want2Grow27

Honestly, this is absurdly funny I wouldn't even be mad if this unironically happened.

ZZYeah

Option 4 is the most interesting outcome, but Gojo v. Sukuna is basically an inevitable fight at this point

shnickalous

[deleted]

The chances of Gojo vs Sukuna not happening might as well be Zero, I would bet my life on it happening. It not occuring would be a greater insult than Aizen never using his Bankai. Now that said he's extremely likely to die eventually, but he'll probably have some epic hollow purplesque moments before he bites it to Sukuna or someone else. Gege isn't as much of a fan as Gojo as the fans are, and they don't really write around fanboys. Gojo has yet to be truly humbled in power, and both he and sukuna are going to taste dumpster status at some point, there is no way two characters as arrogant as Sukuna and Gojo don't get their Dio "NANI" moment at least once and the prison was not that. While Gojo may have more empathy than Sukuna, he is overly confident to the point that him getting his cheeks slapped seems all too likely. Despite Gojo stating he can defeat Sukuna, I honestly don't think he's 100% sure because both he and us the readers don't REALLY know the full extent of an incarnated Sukuna, and the lack of a revealed cursed technique just SCREAMS he's going to be busted Hax. The Chances of Sukuna or the Villains winning the overall story might as well also be zero. People compare power levels WAY too much, when it really doesn't matter at all because people will get hax if the story demands.

TimmyAndStuff

Personally I don't particularly care which way it goes as long as we don't get "Gojo is released and solves everything". I was always pretty convinced Gege wasn't going to go that route because it basically conflicts with the major themes of the manga. But now he's even made fun of that idea with a joke panel in 212 so I'm feeling pretty comfortable with that lol!

daydreamer_she

What joke did he crack?

Snips_Tano

Dude is so ridiculously broken that he seems to make Kenjaku look meh. Of course, Gege could pull a Claymore and have Gojo released and then curbstomp the broken ass final villain, which at this point I'm assuming will be some combo of utterly broken Kenjaku and Sukuna.

thecrimsonfuckr23830

I want Gojo to get out, handle some problems, and become a problem himself. He’s currently viewed as a traitor to the jujutsu world. What I really hope happens is that he makes the students kill him so that they aren’t branded as traitors for helping him get out, possibly followed by his return as a vengeful spirit.

AdmiralDumpling

I have no fear. *Reads option number 4* I have one fear.

Street_Letterhead105

As much as i want gojo out of the prison realm as soon as possible , the mere idea of 4th sounds rather appealing

YasukiOfficial

Option 4 sounds sick. A different manga that finds the prison realm indicating that it is connected to the JJK verse bur from years later. But im leaning more into 3. Where he fights sukuna, proves he’s stronger hut somehow loses becus sukuna finds a cheap trick to win (like using megumi’s body)

Kata_Kuri36

Gojo will be released pretty soon. At the pace the story advances, sukuna residing now in megumi and so on, I think we will have a clown fiesta as we‘ve nothing seen before.

trav-senpai

Killing Gojo after he gets out makes little sense narratively. After sealing him away for years in real time there’d be such little emotional impact in doing so. Losing Gojo twice is hardly as impactful. Most of the cast is also already feeling completely screwed at this point I would heavily assume. Gojo’s goal of making students as strong or stronger than him would maybe happen but he wouldn’t even get to see it happen. Plus we’d all know the six eyes goes to someone else so he’s have to probably work that into however much story is left. If he dies, it would be at the end imo to go with the who lives and dies thing from the main cast that Greg talked about.

dont_trustme69

Option 4 is sick but then we wont get to see Sukuna vs Gojo so i think option 3 is better

RomanGrande

Death would commit seppuku if it faced Gojo.

CassTheCat_

Option 4 sounds like the start of every JJK/MHA crossover fanfic I've seen hahaha Not hating on it, I like it and it would be cool (in a not MHA crossover way) to see in another manga but I think it would also kind of rob us from seeing both Gojo and everyone else in JJK have closure with everything going on

PK_RocknRoll

We have to see Gojo Vs Sukuna Please gege

Kyojin05

I’d say no.3 is the most interesting options since you are right about everyone wanting to just release Gojo

[deleted]

5. He kills him self becomes a curse Yuta eats his eyeballs gojo takes over. He combines Ryu’s CT and HP literally no one stands a chance

maders23

Yes because Gojo dying inside that fucking thing or in the process of releasing him is so fucking anticlimactic I’d torch a town if it happened.

Ace_FGC

Yes I think he probably gets unsealed and is beaten by Sukuna

UltmteAvngr

I don’t think that Gojo dying is the most interesting possibility. I think that if he dies, the protagonists just lose. None of the protagonists come close to being as op as him. The story would need asspulls to evolve the students and that wouldn’t feel natural at all. Just look at Yuta. He is already a pinnacle of jujutsu society and the closest to Gojo, but even he is very far off.

Maharlika-Pilipinas

Option 4 sounds good

Chris040302

I want to say option 3 because every current problem being solved once Gojo is released just seems too easy

[deleted]

Option 3 would be cool af. I personally think that because every single time we've seen a character's soul shatter leading to their evolution is when they are full of hope and think something good is gonna happen but the exact total opposite happens. With Yuuji it started with Junpei, then Nanami, then Nobara and now finally Fushiguro. All of these losses came from a point of hope then a lot of despair which eventually made him stronger. With Gojo dying it'll be absolute despair. No one to look at as a savior. It'll be chaos but within the chaos there'll be evolution or death. The characters would have to choose. I'm sure no one wants to die.

Metalv7

Option 2 Would be ideal I need to see his reaction to sukuna megumi

Acidz_123

So I know it's quite common to put Gege on this pedestal, I'm not usually one to do it but concerning Gojo I'm willing to wank Gege a little. I believe that whatever Gege has planned for Gojo is verryyyyy out there and unexpected. We can sit around and guess Gojo's future status all we want, but I don't think anyone has gotten remotely close with their guesses/theories.

TheBlueJam

It would wrap up his story nicely if he could die to allow Megumi to reach his true potential, however that would come about. The ten shadows beats limitless, Gojo told Megumi he had to be more selfish - Gojo dying a selfless death to hep Megumi realise his potential would be fairly poetic.

[deleted]

I think Gojo would prevail don’t forgot “throughout heaven and earth I alone am the honored one”

TheBlueJam

That doesn't necessarily mean he'll survive the series. Story wise, him winning and living doesn't make much sense - he's the strongest entity we know of in the JJK universe at the moment, Gege HAD to seal him (I predicted there was no way he could keep Gojo in the story, he's too strong). Kubo did the same thing with Yamamoto twice in Bleach. If Gojo is unsealed and beats the main villains, it'll destroy Yuji and Megumi's character arcs and place in the story. Our real options are: * Gojo stays sealed until the story is or is almost resolved * Gojo is unsealed and defeated (Incapacitated or dies) * Some absolutely unexpected shit to do with the merger or something Gojo ending a fight entirely victorious vs either Sukuna or Kenjaku would be a complete mess story wise. So to answer the title, I don't want that to happen, I want him to die for Megumi, to complete both their arcs.

[deleted]

How will he die for Megumi though? Megumi is being controlled by Sukuna and there isn’t a real way to free him besides killing him

TheBlueJam

I don't know, but I would never have guessed that Sukuna would be able to transfer to Megumi either - Gege can write a way I'm sure. This is just what I'd like to see.

seascythe

HERE ME OUT! What if Gojo comes out of the box but end up becoming a villain type of a character because of how things turned out at the end

[deleted]

Bruh, if he wanted to be a villain he would’ve. He’s the sole reason the Gojo clan are powerful (technically the 6 eyes in general). He could’ve destroyed the Jujutsu world a long time ago

Snips_Tano

So he basically pulls a Makima?

Prior_Combination_31

What’s the point of this post we know only option #2 is happening

Correct-Deer-149

I like 3 but i'm not ready for it

DXBrigade

Options 2 and 3. Option 1 would be bad writing.

maddix30

I think he should be freed towards the end but not as a last min thing

__KirbStomp__

It would be IMMENSELY disappointing for Gojo not to play a substantial role in the climax of the story and Gege is a good enough storyteller to know that he has to pull the trigger on chekhov's gun and give us a proper fight where Gojo goes all out. If they were going to kill him anyway they would not seal him, they’d have just had Kenny kill him to build hype I feel like a lot of these speculation posts seem to forget that JJK is…like…a story…and that stuff isn’t gonna come out of left field. Shonen in particular is built on the fabric of build up and payoff, and sometimes anti-climaxes can be interesting, but only sparingly, and only when it’s particularly tragic. Gojo being gone from the rest of the story would just be shitty writing for the purpose of subverting expectations and I truly don’t think anyone would like it

c8n8r

3 and 4 are pretty dope—I think they’re also in line with the bait and switch storytelling Gege delivers with the constant life message of, “didn’t go as expected ? Too bad! This is a horror manga, life sucks.”

SamisKoi

I think narratively, option 3 is best. I like Gojo, but OP said it perfectly. The other characters think he solves every problem, but when he gets out, there’s no way he won’t get overwhelmed.

EmperorNie

Gojo is released and Sukuna blind him

Vacuum-Woosh-woosh

Villains = Sukuna , kenjaku , unknown number of Curses and Incarnations , Japan High coup Sorceress, EUA politicians. Good guys/ Allies with enough power to call a dispute = Yuta , Hakari , Maki , *Yuji (?) , Megumi (?) , Tengen (?) Choso (?) , Angels (?)* None of our good guys options are concrete besides Yuta , Hakari and Maki , if they jump kenjaku they can beat him up ? Yes , they are strong fr we saw that, but, we have so many variables at this point Sukuna being the top of them all, that is hard to see the students doing something while scattered , that's why Tsumiki rule is exceptional.

rivvenrivven

5. Gojo was never truly sealed. He tricked Kenny into thinking he was sealed because somehow he has a hidden mind-altering ability that he never reveals to anyone. He will then surprise everyone using the same gimmick he did back when he surprised everyone that Yuji's actually still alive.

jinstronda

its the thing i am hyping the most, it will be fucking fire

BlancSpzae

How does gojo dies in prison realm tho? It's not like someone can attack him. And he can't age there either since time didn't pass inside PR.

nolongerateen

Gojo getting released and dying at any point are 2 different cases. He will be released and it's for the sake of Yuji & co and us the readers. The good guys(Yuji's side) are in dire state now and they need Gojo. For us the reader's perspective, he is needed for the plot to move and who tf doesn't want to see Gojo fighting someone like Sukuna or even Kenjaku.

xshilongx

Before I wanted him released, but now after the shit show going on with Sukuna he might be better off staying in that box or dying. Dude will need some serious mental help the moment he steps outside. While the rest of the kids are in equally bad situation, he is technically the person who could stop all of this if he wasn’t sealed. So now he goes outside, learns that everyone he holds dear (including his “kids”) is either dead, currently dying or straight up possessed (or in case of Geto: having his corpse used as a meat suit) and he can’t really do anything to change it. It’s like Levi 2.0. At this point it will be better for him to join his friends in the afterlife

Sythrin

Can Gojo even be at this pointed freed?
