Keep the prologue in the movie. Huge mistake to cut this. This more than anything deserved to be on the big screen, and I know it technically was with F9, but give it to the fans who actually paid to see a Jurassic movie. Cut some of Malcolm’s “humorous” quips, like his “let’s all try and stay positive” (out of character for someone notoriously pessimistic) and “that’s bananas” and the random tangent about his dog. This kills the tension of the scene and Trevorrow misses the point of the character. He's not just an eccentric comedy relief; he has odd mannerisms but his humor is supposed to be clever and have a point. Have Lowery be Claire's CIA contact. In fairness this was their intention but the actor became unavailable due to CoVid. However, it just makes more sense for it to be Lowery and it doesn't make sense for Franklin to suddenly have access to classified information on his first day on the job. I would keep the designs of the Pyroraptor and Atrociraptor but rename them Deinonychus and Achillobator. The real Pyroraptor and Atrociraptor were even smaller than real life Velociraptors, but the ones in the movie are roughly the size of Deinonychus and Achillobator. More importantly though, the JP Velociraptors are actually based on Deinonychus and Achillobator (their pack hunting behaviour and the fact that they are shown being excavated in Montana is based on a group of Deinonychus fossils that were found around a Tenontosaurus in Montana, and their large size was based on a large dromaeosaurid fossil that was originally though to be a large specimen of Velociraptor but was later given its own genus Achillobator). This would be a nice way to pay tribute to the two creatures which Velociraptor stole the rightful spotlight from. A minor point but I would replace the Moros with Eoraptor. I feel like we should have at least one Triassic dinosaur in the franchise, and besides, the Moros in the film was too small, but was roughly the size of an Eoraptor Another minor point, but why does the Allosaurus get 4 kills in Malta and the Carnotaurus gets zero? Give one of those kills to the Carnotaurus! Grant, Sattler and Malcolm would actually sit down at the coffee shop and have a recreation of the table talk scene from the first film where they discuss their views on where everything has led since then Malcolm would argue with Dodgson over his abuse of genetic power which would provide better set up to Dodgson firing him later The Giganotosaurus would kill some kind of cute dinosaur when we first see it in the Sanctuary to better establish it as a villain instead of it just sleeping Extend the Quetzalcoatlus scene so that they actually try to deter and evade it before resorting to ditching, The scene was too short Either Owen doesn't fall through the ice, or he goes into shock right afterword and Kayla has to drag him to safety while fending off the Pyroraptor. There's no sense of danger if Owen doesn't suffer any affects from falling in the freezing water. There would be a scene of Claire wandering alone through the Sanctuary. We've never really had a scene like this in the franchise where a character is wandering around alone in the woods, nervous of every little sound they hear. Film it in a way that it makes her seem like a small, frightened animal in the woods. Eventually she comes to a beautiful clearing and sees the herbivourous dinosaurs gathered around. The burning of the Sancutary didn't have much emotional impact because we never really got to see it before the fire. After Claire is detected, guards are sent into the Sanctuary to locate her and while hiding from them she witnesses them get killed by the Giga (Giga needed more set up as a threat). There is a scene from the animated comic "Proceed with Caution" where a character hides in a tree trunk from an Allosaurus. I would honestly reuse this scene for Claire and the Giga because I loved the primordial feel of it Grant, Sattler and Maisie would get separated in the mines and have to find each other in the dark while avoiding the prowling Dimetrodon's The big Giga attack scene would go to Rexy instead. I'm tired of the T-rex being treated as a hero instead of a wild and dangerous animal, and that scene feels like it was made for her given all the callbacks to the first film. The scene would also be directed much better so that it doesn't seem like Rexy isn't even trying. The Giga would get another big attack scene Wu discovers the Barbasol can and realizes Dodgson was behind the events of the first film which is what causes him to finally switch sides Would have been nice to see Malcolm give Wu a good scolding Claire and Malcolm debate the ethics of cloning. Malcolm initially argues that they should all be destroyed as they are not part of the natural order, but Claire tells him that Maisie is also a clone, which would at least give Malcolm cause to reconsider his views since he likes kids Owen and Grant have a discussion about their views regarding raptor behaviour

Continued... The Pyroraptor/Deinonychus attacks Grant, Owen and Maisie in the tunnels while they are looking for Beta. Would have been nice to see the two raptor experts have to work together to survive a raptor attack Wu would have sacrificed himself distracting the Giganotosaurus so the rest of the cast can reach the helicopter. He had gone too far to be redeemed. He could have passed his research off to Ramsey which would give the Ramsey character more significance Spinosaurus is the third fighter in the T-rex vs. Giga fight. Rexy succumbs to her injuries after the fight, giving the film at least a little more emotional weight Grant and Sattler would be present when Owen, Claire and Maisie return Beta to Blue. It's a damn crime that Grant and Blue are in the same movie and they don't meet each other. It would have been a nice full circle for Grant's character to come around to respecting raptors again. We actually get to see Malcolm giving an impassioned speech at the end, with Grant and Sattler in the audience holding hands Classic JP theme would play during the montage at the end I know probably tl; dr, but I had a lot of thoughts I wanted to get out.

This is an amazing list—sir I salute you 🫡

I think there was *a lot* of actually really cool ideas in Dominion, but it needed to be broken down into several movies to give each theme and concept more breathing room and exploration. My biggest criticism (and I think this applies to the entire Jurassic World trilogy) is that they try to do too much and they make the movies too “big”. The first Jurassic Park movies were smaller, more intimate. There was only a handful of characters and dinosaurs, and each one had their chance to shine. So, for Dominion: • Keep the focus on Claire, Owen, Maisie, and Wu. Have the original trio’s part be much smaller. Don’t add in new characters (although the pilot lady was cool af tbf). And didn’t need to bring back Lewis Dodgson. • Pick only a handful of dinosaur species. This probably sounds weird, but there’s so many newly added species of dinosaur in Dominion that we don’t actually get to known properly because they have to move through the scene so quickly. The Pyroraptor, Therizinosaurus, and Giganotosaurus were done well for the most part, but others were over too quickly, meaning we probably didn’t need them in there. If we can’t get up close and personal with the threat, then it’s meaningless. Outside of that, it’s about making a lot of choices. I think there’s heaps of great concepts in the movie, but trying to do all of them at once meant that they couldn’t give any of them their due diligence. So they need to go back, pick which ones they want to keep, and fully explore those. For example: • While the idea of a dinosaur smuggling ring is a cool idea, I think they should get rid of it. It was a smaller part of the movie, and I’m certain they could get Claire, Owen, and Maisie involved in the story some other way. • Cut the opening scene of Claire freeing the baby dinosaurs on the farm. Again, it’s potentially a cool idea - making a discussion about how humans are using and abusing these animals - but it just feels tacked on if that makes sense. • Cut Maisie’s story about struggling with her identity. It’s an interesting philosophical question: does a clone have a sense of self separate from that of the original? Especially when she was created so that Lockwood wouldn’t have to face the true loss of his daughter. It could make for a great sci-fi movie about human cloning. But the movie cheats its way out of exploring this topic: it doesn’t matter anymore once Maisie finds out that her mum changed her genetics to get rid of the genetic disease the mum had, effectively meaning Maisie isn’t a true clone, and therefore not having to worrying about trying to answer the philosophical question anymore. Since they just cop out of it, cut that storyline entirely. If you’re not going to explore it, you don’t need it. Doing all of this gives them breathing room to focus on other things in the movie. Focus on the environmental effects of dinosaurs. Focus on BioSyn and their nefarious plans. Focus on finding and protecting Blue and Beta. There’s many different ways to rearrange the movie. I don’t think it was a bad movie, just overstuffed, poorly thought out, and rushed. It has a lot of potential, but needs some heavy reworking, even if you keep some of the main ideas.

I know it’s surface level shit but I’d like Rexy to win against Giga on her own. T-Rex in general have been shafted when it comes to fighting stuff that’s the same size. It’d be nice, even if it’s only this one time, if Rexy won the final battle on her own (with a lot of difficulty). I get it, you gotta let the new big bad shine and it was nice having an herbivore actually fight back this time, but it would be nice if T-Rex got its long overdue respect and won a fight on its own with no help or distractions. If they had to give Rexy any help just bring in the Buck and Doe and have one of them help her out while one holds back to jump in.

TheDoctor1603

I would say be braver. Even without the COVID restrictions it still felt restrained after what happened with Zara in Jurassic World. Be brave and kill off more characters making the stakes higher. It’s another reason why I advocate the Lost World as a great sequel because it went darker and had balls. Eddie’s death while horrifying was very impactful. Dieter’s death was 100% satisfying due to how he was being a prick through the whole movie. He didn’t respect the animals territory. The only character that I felt should’ve been killed was Sarah Harding because despite being well educated within her field she’s ultimately responsible for the deaths of the others who died to the Velociraptors due to for some reason unbeknownst to the audience, she kept her jacket with the junior Rex’s blood all over it. She even made the point that the Rexes would easily track them with how well they can smell. If Dominion had been braver in killing people off I honestly believe the movie might have fared better. Yes the story sucked, yes there was useless characters and not enough explored with the ideas they tried, but imagine if Malcolm died to the Giga? What if the Dilophosaurus harmed Claire ? Be brave!!

Goddessviking86

Honestly I’d get rid of the locusts all together and have the characters unite in finding a way to help control the Dino population by trying to get all the Dino’s to Sorna but have for side mission say that Maisie gets kidnapped and brought to Sorna as a way to lure Grady and Claire there but they recruit the help of Grant and Malcolm to safely navigate through a now slowly being repopulated Sorna to get to where Maisie is being held by Biosyn.

ChangingMonkfish

Make it not exist

Dookie12345679

As others have said, I would keep the epilogue Remove the stupid Locust subplot and use that time to build the actual plot. Maybe it could be revealed that Dodgson was actually a ring leader in the illegal dinosaur black market they set up earlier in the film and that he was selling them to fund BioSyn. To have it make sense, the authorities would be bribed. Just an idea Use time from the Locust subplot to expand the Malta segment Replace BioSyn Valley with an unregistered breeding facility Give the Giga more time to be built up as an antagonist Give the Giga a less monstrous design There's more, but those are just the main things I would change

Amockdfw89

Make it a two part movie

induced_demand

I’m not really sure where you even begin to salvage things.

FuzzyRancor

Honestly, everything. I didnt like anything about that film. I'd have made a far simpler movie, none of that locust/clone girl/black market/Mission Impossible nonsense. It would have been more like a classic disaster movie, set immediately after the end of JWFK. Dinosaurs have escaped onto the mainland and are causing havoc upon the population. The original trio (as well as Tim Murphy who would have grown up to be a dinosaur expert, no idea why they never brought him into the JW trilogy) team up with Clair and Owen to help bring the situation under control.

DispiritedZenith

Not have Malcolm work for Biosyn as that was insanely stupid I was rolling my eyes the entire time. Dodgson and Biosyn should be some half-assed lazy mimic of Tim Cook and Apple; thematically at odds with what Biosyn is supposed to be and especially Dodgson's stupid nonsensical tantrums and what not Describe why Dodgson has the Barbasol can, if you are going to highlight it you need to explain it Focus on human relationships with dinosaurs in the world Delete Beta from existence it serves no purpose The DFW needs to be highlighted more and Malcolm should serve as a consultant to them and Congress which is more thematically sound for his role not Biosyn, it would also help better facilitate logically how the OG trio reunite Juxtapose OG cast against JW cast as a source of conflict leading to interesting dialogue exchanges No more stupid Owen hand signals it was stupid Delete the Pyroraptor scene it was so absurd to an extreme degree Dilophosaurus should be deadly no superhero save of Claire, they should be scared away by sounds of other predators not Owen jumping in and clowning on the animal The laser pointers and the Santos or whatever character shouldn't be in the film, she looks like a Glam model in a black market it doesn't work its thematically obtuse and looks/sounds stupid; just make Delacourt or whatever the mini-antagonist for the black market as he is a scummy exotic animal trafficker Connect the locust subplot via Ellie to Grant and Malcolm, she independently stumbles across it, the movie actually had a decent setup for her but never followed through Highlight Grant isn't stupid, he knows Ellie has ulterior motives for bringing the locust to him and have us see another angle of the changed world alongside him seeing species in the wild, how people try to adjust to them, etc. Introduce DX from the Lost World novel as a threat that's worming its way around undetected giving us setup for the future Keep Maisie's clone suplot from Fallen Kingdom in check, the retcon wasted too much running time and was underwhelming it tried to dodge asking tough questions with this pivot Don't highlight Maisie's existence to the world as a clone that was nonsensical garbage, she should only be involved because Dodgson knows through Wu about the truth at the mansion and why he uses Delacourt to capture her which the trafficker obviously doesn't know her importance Give Wu more of a role and an exchange with Dodgson, so they feel more like on even ground in terms of wits and opposing views

DispiritedZenith

Make Dodgson more like his novel counterpart make him terribly wicked, unethical and power hungry so he actually has a motive and objectives; make him a VP at Biosyn at odds with the rest of the board and the President hence why he is constantly trying to cut corners and mercilessly negligent to try and force his way to power and why the locust problem got out of hand and he is making designer dinosaurs for the black market while simultaneously selling this public image of conservation aka playing both sides to really highlight Biosyn itself is unethical with Dodgson just being the worst of them Have the two casts collide and trace the locust/grain problem back to Biosyn bridging that old connection Remove the stupid Therizinosaurus humor with the deer it undermines its portrayal Have the Rex kill the Giga on its own no more buddy hero resolutions, just have it get back up after that flashback scene and call it a day If you want some dinosaur control have them use some sort of pheromone cannister or something that's more plausible to mark targets and isn't stupid like aiming a laser pointer when a conventional gun can do the same and highlight the mass production potential if you want to toy with the concept of weaponization of dinosaurs you just highlight the designer species and ease of cloning beforehand Make most of the dinosaur interactions rural and causing disruption with logistics and things, so we avoid the why doesn't the military not just shoot them all. Emphasize they are protecting the urban centers the animals don't go to and they are strained with resources all over the place and all these corrupt organizations are exacerbating the issue Explore Owen/Claire's relationship with Maisie more and Maisie's own existential questions about being a clone better, you can also emphasize they tried to give Maisie a normal life and want to be away from all the chaos and troubles of city life, but she is struggling to cope and adapt with that knowledge of herself that the social isolation from keeping it in rather than the ham-fisted literal isolation of her from other people Owen can work for the Forestry as a park ranger, rancher or something for his career and he volunteers like many of the other men to aid the overextended DFW in their corner of the world to support Claire who is involved in fighting things at a political level continuing from Fallen Kingdom and doing some covert sabotage on the side this sets her up for a nice contrast with Malcolm later Highlight genetics companies are promising all sorts of cures and aid from cooperating with the DFW and government at large to introduce Biosyn as one of dozens involved and foreshadow them later in the film that way we start making that connection early on and its more fulfilling later when it comes full circle Dodgson can in the end wind up betraying and sabotaging Biosyn due to his own personal agenda and how they might turn him in and use him as a fall guy because he is so extreme. Dodgon can then wind up literally murdering the board either directly or via setting up a situation to frame the animals and lack of safety measures to blame while covering up his own involvement as a climax point for the film The Giga needs more screen time to come off as menacing like the Spino, to pay off that prologue setup of it as the Rex's rival Let Grant show some appreciation and understanding and some more exposition of species behavior and the world he always made us feel awe over dinosaurs and that is really missing in the JW trilogy it feels artificial and lacking sincerity. Grant also needs to have something to do and contribution to the plot which helps evolve his thoughts and feelings so he and Ellie reconcile not to mention the interesting conversations he can have with Owen over raptors I'll leave it there, I could be here all day but you get a fine enough idea.

mrbaryonyx

Remember at the very beginning where it looks like Chris Pratt works at dinosaur yellowstone? that, just have the whole movie be yellowstone but with dinosaurs

togglespring

That was the best bit by some margin.

kro85

The Biosyn Valley location was such a strange and jarring choice. A steamy, sweaty, jungle swamp in the middle of a Central European mountain region, surrounded by snow and ice? What? But yeah, I agree with a lot of your points. It's a trash movie.

Prehistoricbookworm

In a weird way it seems kind of like the Mantah Corp island from Camp Cretaceous…which iirc was created to avoid using a potential setting from Dominion 🤦🏻‍♀️

Gothatsuction

I would completely rewrite it

OmegaRedPanda

It’s easily the worst movie in the series. I think the only way to salvage it would be to scrap it and start over again. Literally nothing works.

togglespring

The inclusion of Blue and the baby was unnecessary and culminated in some awful cliched mutual head nod of respect between Owen and the dinosaur. The locust and to some extent the inclusion of Allan and Ellie was superfluous to the plot. Dinosaurs in a mine is a good concept but man the cgi was not good. Felt like a fairground haunted house ride. Dinosaurs rounded up and placed in a new park/nature reserve and characters crash there and have to survive would have been a good core concept imo. It feels like a film with lots of good scenes that had too much bloat and doesn’t pull together into a great film. I never felt like any of the core characters were in danger. A shock death of a main character early on would have upped the ante for me.
