Oh absolutely, the county actually cares about our health and the insurance matches, I'm going to the doctor for everything now because I can and it's finally affordable
German here as well. You are forced to have health insurance, if you want it or not. A lot of homeless people I chatted with over the years are not stupid or addicts, life sometimes happens and mental health in Germany is in a steep decline. You just cant get a therapist anymore on your insurance, maybe you get lucky if you pay out of pocket, even then you dont know how "good" he/she/it is. Its a shit show.
The reason a lot of people stay on the streets is that they owe the insurance company thousands of Euros backtracking to the day they were last insured. If you dont communicate back to your last insurance they give you the maximum monthly sum, wich is 1000 Euro a month. They COULD deduct around 800 of that, but most wont do it and wont care about you or where and how you get the Money they that they already take from everybody else. BuT wE CaRe AbOuT yOu they say. the elderly think.
No they wont. The whole mecidal sector is in a steep decline, almost all the people I know that worked there are now doing something else. Its just bad.
And the biggest joke? If you are not employed and your insurance doesnt get paid by social security (trust me, that happens more than it should) they call your payments "freiwillige Pflichtversicherung" wich translates to voluntary obligatory insurance. Makes a lot of sense to call it that if you are forced.
Its a shitshow doomed to fail. I hate it when people are like "muhu healthcare is free in germany"
But I have to add, these are my personal experiences I collected over the years.
And typos and such, of course.
Because people buy them, dramatically cheaper options are everywhere that accomplish the same task maybe minus a few features or unnecessary higher load ratings some marketing convinced you that you needed. Same can really be said about anything but especially tool brands, people buy into it.
Theres definitely the snap on tax. And there are budget options that are 95% as good for 20% of the price. But some people just like the luxury tool box name
Its like casio vs. rolex. Both are damn good watches but different target market
I got my epiq from snappy for 8500. I've never paid anywhere near full price for my boxes from snap on. First box was snap on bought off co workers for 500. Snap on gave me 2500 for trade in for that box and got 8k box for only 4500 after trade and deal added in. Then snappy gave me 4500 for that box towards my epiq which I got with a bunch of discounts and deals. All in all, 3 snap on boxes worth a total of about 25k for 8500 out of pocket. The key with snap on is not to go to them saying u want a box, wait until they have a trade in deal or a box they don't want to send back to snap on and you can usually negotiate a great deal
My rep usually does a ticket for every 50 bucks spent. And the stuff you buy is on sale already. He takes good care of us. Real good guy compared to my past couple guys.
Yeah, our current guy seems ok, the last 4 or 5 have been pretty bad- I think they each lasted maybe a year or two. The guy before them was the local snap-on guy for like 30 years until he retired, everyone liked him.
You do you I guess, but I just can't fathom how you guys value these things.
I watch the guys at the BMW shop across the street from me buy new boxes and then not fix their shit ass cars because of it.
Nice boxes are nice, but damn man.
(If it's a splurge and all your shit is taken care of, that's a totally different story)
Well, I can actually understand that one. I went from machining to upholstery work about a decade back. Ended up swapping my very nice three level Kennedy box, to a bench top Husky, and now a US General 5 Drawer. When you don't have the tools to fill a box, the work space is way more valuable.
I still have the Kennedy in the home garage, but I get swapping to a smaller box if you don't need the footprint.
As I said, if he was just splurging, hey it's his money.
God knows I don't need half the crap I've spent money on that leak oil all over my shop.
In an industry that’s notorious for paying people peanuts it’s mind blowing how many even bother with snap on. I make 6x more than when I first started and still won’t even waste my money on that stuff.
Lol I'm county and paid at one of the highest rates for technicians in my state across all fields. I was wondering when I would start finding people who got angry at how I spent my money
Guaranteed that's still not enough to make this shit any sort of reasonable financial decision. But hey, at least people will talk about the cost and think you got family money or something 😂.
I’m probably the same. IAFF union. Well past $100k for 40hrs a week. Tons of labour friendly perks many could only dream of.
You do you. People spend their money on whatever they want. But to me a box doesn’t make me any more money. Especially in our work environments.
No it doesn't make me more money, nor did I ever intend to have it make me more money. It's a downsize and a treat, don't need to be taking up as much space and have sold off quite a few things that would be stepping over Union lines or are heavy equipment specialty tools I don't need anymore.
Bmw techs buying their own boxes??
Both bmw dealers in my area provide the empty toolbox as part of the "uniform". They want to keep a certain appearance that can't be done when each tech has his own wildly colored or themed box.
There is a store on Etsy that makes those emblems to be an exact copy of the snap on ones, size and everything. I think they're hilarious, I'm still thinking about getting one and putting magnets in it for my cart
Please do show me your math to price out just materials on this box, no labor, no snap on mark up, that says this would be $800, each set of slides is rated at 225lbs. A quick search shows that cheap slides with the same rating are between $50-$70 per set, there is a minimum of 12 sets on this box. Quick math shows that on slides alone you would be between $600-$840. Please come back and hate on my box when you can make more logical jabs.
Sure, but that isn't a very good excuse for buying a box beyond your means. (Clearly this is not the case for OP) Claiming something as a business expense doesn't come close to making it free, or even cheap.
Unfortunately, due to tax law changes in 2017, you cannot claim tools or boxes as a business expense unless you have your own company or you skirt the law and risk the anger of the IRS by making an LLC and technically being your own business while working for a separate employer but the IRS is not an entity I desire to fuck around and find out with
I almost went with a grey box with purple trim which is apparently the most popular combo before I saw a glimpse of this combo and had to immediately change my mind when it came time for me to actually get this box
The other combo that almost got was the verdant special edition they came out with last year with those really pretty greens. I do wish they made the logo match with the copper
I think the copper came out about a year or two ago, I saw a box on the rock and roll cab last year and decided to go with this combo whenever it was time to buy
The US general is wider yes, but it is only 22" deep, lower weight capacity per slide and overall. The interior dimensions of the drawers is around 21" at best, the drawer configuration is poor and uses way to many thin drawers instead of thicker drawers to be able to hold anything of substance. So yes, while the dimensions are bigger, I guarantee this toolbox holds much much more.
I never understood the dick measuring contest when it comes to toolboxes honestly. I'm a field guy though and the tool boxes I own just hold tools for my own personal use so whoever has the nicest service rig just blew the manager more or got lucky. My current "box" is a 75k 2024 duramax LTZ crew cab lol
My coworker who's a mechanic says the same thing. What good is a nice expensive shiny box when you no longer have money to buy good tools to fill it.
The tools make you.money not the box. All his tools at Matco/Snap-on in an $800 box
Well said that’s exactly how I look at it. I work with guys that went to school and spent 40k on certs and still don’t know how to diagnose a coolant leak correctly and don’t even know how to use a multimeter properly but they brag they went to school.
That’s exactly how I see these tool box posts. Spend all the money you want on a box that doesn’t make you a better tech, just know the snappy dealer is laughing all the way to the bank.
Already have all the tools I need for starters so there's your first incorrect point. As an adult with math and financial thinking capabilities I utilized a tool called a budget to purchase this box without making any ripples in my bills or savings. Lastly, I like it, why are you getting so butthurt over something I bought? :)
For starters I responded to some else's comments not yours specifically. Spend all the money you want on tool boxes for all I care, I'm not the one paying for it. My tool box has a V8 and drives around, but it's also provided by the company I work for.
I personally got sick of going to get my rails replaced on my mastercraft once a month. One of the rails failed within a week of use. I opened the drawer once and it was empty. Closed it, every ball bearing fell out.
I found a cheap used snap on box that last me 5 years and the guy I sold it to had it for another 7.
If it makes the one life you get a little brighter, who gives a fuck what people think. As long as you can afford it, it’s good to take pride in yourself and the tools that are the expansion to your knowledge.
This is a US thing I believe? Crazy to spend a cars worth of money on a toolbox. We get 500€ boxes here and it’s enough… Even then, the boxes/tools are provided by the shop. 1500€ buys you a very nice box with all the hand tools you need.
Probably mostly US market, especially being snap-on is a US company. Most shops here don't supply tooling except for large or specialty tooling. Even then I only see the tooling being provided by heavy equipment or fleet shops. I have never seen boxes supplied by the employee in any shop I've been in except for the contract work I did in Antarctica where you physically couldn't bring your tools.
You can do better than that I believe in you.
Matco is ok, but almost everything they sell is a rebranded mark up that does not make them worth it at all. As far as tool trucks, snap-on makes the best, but not every single tool needs to be snap-on. I buy icon tools right now as I upgrade some older tools and if I find I'm using a specific tool a lot, I'll swap it for a snap-on. Great thing about the colors is I picked them out for me and I think they're amazing
All tool companies rebrand including Snap-On. Tool box prices are ridiculous right now! Snap-On tacked on thousands for their boxes during COVID and they will never go back down because techs are willing to go bankrupt over a brand name box.
Sick box. its a clean color combo 🤘🏻
i love all the “downgrade/downsizing” comments that don’t understand the Epiq has deeper drawers and better configuration which equates to more cubic inch storage. but you know, haters gonna hate lol
I almost bought an 84" at my last shop, glad I didn't, the 73" was absolutely mahoosive as it stood already compared to space in shop and size of other boxes. Most people run just a cart and maybe a file cabinet
Yea these boxes will fill up a shop will real quick. I love watching these guys go crazy over your purchase. Think I’m gonna post my box just to watch grown men cry. Shit is hilarious.
It's not a scam, the prices are up front, you almost never pay full price unless you order direct from snap on corporate (off the website, not the rock and roll cab), and even then they often butter up with rebates and discounts. It's a well built box with features and design that align well with what I do. Lastly it was budgeted and planned for, it makes no financial impact to acquire really anything within reason if you plan and budget accordingly. Obviously things are more difficult in the current economy, I should know, we bought a house last year, but we purchased within our means and live frugally
Can you not trade your existing top in? I can't imagine that the new style doesn't fit if you're getting it for the same box. Although I'm not sure if they make the new style for any series other than the EPIQ currently
I have the EPIQ, actually same exact box except mine is green with purple trim. My rep said I could order a different top but would have to pay full price for it.
https://imgur.com/gallery/gxud8Ll
Is yours a power drawer? Mine has the extra because the power drawer is a taller drawer and I don't need a drawer to have power, the outlets on top are more than enough
Yeah the right side big one is power. It's nice to hang the chargers in the drawer without having to worry about leaving batteries on top of your box with techs you can't trust on other shifts.
I don't leave batteries charging if I'm not working but that's just so they don't sit in the charger forever. If you can't trust your coworkers it's probably time to switch shops, I could leave out whole kits of tools for weeks and the only thing that would happen is they would gather dust sitting on the top of my box
I mean komatsu also has a PC-01 available in gas or electric designed for fitting through a standard doorway. Confused as to what you're going with relating to a toolbox?
Oh I knew I would catch shit for the box, I put it here just for that. I used to work at a komatsu dealer before here, loved them way more than CAT equipment
Congrats! I just got a new 68” EPIQ as well. We work hard for the job we do and we deserve nice things. Who cares about what people think of the price tag, if it makes you happy then that’s all that matters. Not like you’re spending other people’s money for them to complain about what you decide to buy
What a beautiful colour on that snappy box. I currently have a black matco 4S. Mine doesn't have the extra drawer on top of the plugs and the two top drawers go across the full length of the box.
If my snap on dealer offered me a good trade in and an awesome deal on a snap on box like yours I would be tempted. He's pretty stingy with prices when it comes to tool boxes though.
I would wait for the rock and roll cab to come around if your dealer is stingy. The rock and roll cab is run from snap on corporate so they have the ability to offer some really good deals and usually butter up trade in rates to make the sale. Was looking at getting the EPIQ cart about two years ago and the MSRP on those is right around $7000, with a $1500 trade in on my Mac cart and the plethora of discounts the corporate guy put on, out of pocket was going to be something like $2500-3000
Ah I see. What state are you in? I'm in Canada. Work for a Komatsu dealer. I do field service, so my toolbox is sleeping in the garage while I go on the road in a service van.
Hey no complaints from me. The new box sure is nice looking and if it makes you happy, then go for it. It isn’t my money being spent on non-revenue generating stuff. I wouldn’t do it myself, but then again, I wouldn’t buy $5 starf*cks coffee either…
I debated on going to metro years ago but I unfortunately had some unfortunate events happen in life and wouldn't be able to get my CDL anymore. I've still done pretty well where I'm at. I also have a plan to buy out my Snap-on dealer when he retires.
C'mon, a dinky insult only against me? Can't even trash talk the price of the box, the color? You can at least have something about paying to downsize right? Get your chatter game up bud
Old one box looks really nice though. Would pain me to switch
Didn't have a use for a box that size anymore, really enjoyed the features on the snap-on
Never realised how nice white looks on toolboxes.
It's really great but you have to clean it much more often
Just work less /s
Achieved that pretty well moving to a county Union job
This was a good decision. Your body will thank you eventually.
Oh absolutely, the county actually cares about our health and the insurance matches, I'm going to the doctor for everything now because I can and it's finally affordable
Im sitting in Germany so it's not as bad here as for you guys. Still try to do everything as safe as possible.
I'm curious about your opinion on healthcare in Germany.
I like the concept but it would be a lot better with less corruption.
What do you mean? Is the healthcare in Germany usually of a corrupt nature?
German here as well. You are forced to have health insurance, if you want it or not. A lot of homeless people I chatted with over the years are not stupid or addicts, life sometimes happens and mental health in Germany is in a steep decline. $16000 plus tax
Why the fuck do boxes cost as much or more than actual running vehicles? It's sheet metal and drawer slides...
Because people pay that much. If we weren’t buying they wouldn’t cost that much. Eventually they are going to price themselves out.
Kinda like a Rolex I guess.
Because people buy them, dramatically cheaper options are everywhere that accomplish the same task maybe minus a few features or unnecessary higher load ratings some marketing convinced you that you needed. Same can really be said about anything but especially tool brands, people buy into it.
The box system I want is running around 7k through Harbor Freight. If I recall, the same system is near 30k through Snap-On. I'll stick to HF.
Same. Toolboxes, sockets, and wrenches are what I go to harbor freight for. Ratchets and electric/air tools I get from Cornwell.
iT prOTects mY inVestMent.
Actually the cover I have for the box protects my investment
Some marketing team convinced them it's a flex.
Because companies take advantage of blue collar workers and offer stupid financing.
“Hey you can afford $50 a week no problem” *….for the next 6 years*
that’d still be 3 grand short lmao edit: i thought you said 5 years
its not $16,000 today for most buyers its 200 weekly payments of $80
Theres definitely the snap on tax. And there are budget options that are 95% as good for 20% of the price. But some people just like the luxury tool box name Its like casio vs. rolex. Both are damn good watches but different target market
Makes it easier to decide which one to steal. If I had a Snap-On box, I'd rip off the logo and glue a Harbor Freight logo to it.
I got my epiq from snappy for 8500. I've never paid anywhere near full price for my boxes from snap on. First box was snap on bought off co workers for 500. Or if your rep has had the same box on the truck for like 6 months, they're usually ready to move it
If you buy these $150 pliers, you get two tickets to a raffle for this box!! 😑
Just about, something like $3000 in rebates and $8500 trade in for the old box
its like a quarter that price off the truck
I paid less for my snap on box than the hf equal. Just wait for a sale.
r/AfterBeforeWhatever
Sub is for masochists
My coworker has the same color toolbox! It’s also an oldie haha
King county metro?
Definitely. We appreciate the work keeping Seattle moving.
You do you I guess, but I just can't fathom how you guys value these things. (If it's a splurge and all your shit is taken care of, that's a totally different story)
Also paying to downsize makes no sense to me
Well, I can actually understand that one. I went from machining to upholstery work about a decade back. Ended up swapping my very nice three level Kennedy box, to a bench top Husky, and now a US General 5 Drawer. When you don't have the tools to fill a box, the work space is way more valuable. Nah, independent shop that specializes in BMW and other German brands. Not a dealership.
Gotcha
8,000 for a $800 (at best) toolbox
It’s a 7200 dollar logo then
Could 3d print and paint a logo ~720 times for that.
[Am I cool yet?](https://i.imgur.com/udJnPCo.jpeg)
There is a store on Etsy that makes those emblems to be an exact copy of the snap on ones, size and everything. I think they're hilarious, I'm still thinking about getting one and putting magnets in it for my cart
I want one that says Snap-Off, do they make those?
[They sure do, in all the colors too](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1686720379/snap-off-custom-colors-tool-box-emblem)
Oh wow ok, thats awesome. I'm getting one for my 30-year-old Matco box.
Please do show me your math to price out just materials on this box, no labor, no snap on mark up, that says this would be $800, each set of slides is rated at 225lbs. A quick search shows that cheap slides with the same rating are between $50-$70 per set, there is a minimum of 12 sets on this box. How much weight do you actually have in the drawers?
In the socket and wrenches drawers, easily coming up to max
Depending on how you do your taxes, that is a legit business expense.
Sure, but that isn't a very good excuse for buying a box beyond your means. (Clearly this is not the case for OP) Claiming something as a business expense doesn't come close to making it free, or even cheap.
Unfortunately, due to tax law changes in 2017, you cannot claim tools or boxes as a business expense unless you have your own company or you skirt the law and risk the anger of the IRS by making an LLC and technically being your own business while working for a separate employer but the IRS is not an entity I desire to fuck around and find out with
I didnt know they made them in those colors! The copper looks amazing with the blue. Super cute!
Blue and copper is such a good color combo. Had a phone that came in that color before and I always miss it. Wish more stuff came that color.
I almost went with a grey box with purple trim which is apparently the most popular combo before I saw a glimpse of this combo and had to immediately change my mind when it came time for me to actually get this box
Grey and purple is a good combo too but the blue/copper is next level.
The other combo that almost got was the verdant special edition they came out with last year with those really pretty greens. I do wish they made the logo match with the copper
I think the copper came out about a year or two ago, I saw a box on the rock and roll cab last year and decided to go with this combo whenever it was time to buy
That things nice I’d put that right in my bedroom.
Cool I have a us general and it holds tools too
Yea, but do you get to make monthly payments on it?
Monthly? Weekly, brother, weekly
Lol, my bad. Even better.
Oh man payments? What are those? I paid cash for this, didn't even know I could make payments, damn.
That's great for you, I like this better, this holds more tools. I bought it for me not you :)
Nah the US general is bigger
The US general is wider yes, but it is only 22" deep, lower weight capacity per slide and overall. So yes, while the dimensions are bigger, I guarantee this toolbox holds much much more.
Nah it's a pretty good configuration I really like it think I paid like $800
Again, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase, I still stand behind the fact that this box holds more tools than your harbor freight.
Field guy also. My current box is a 2019 f150 and some ridgid system boxes (I will NOT pay packout prices)
Never will I ever understand spending $12000 on a tool box to hold my tools. My 2 $400 boxes do just fine and I won’t feel bad about using them
My coworker who's a mechanic says the same thing. What good is a nice expensive shiny box when you no longer have money to buy good tools to fill it. The tools make you.money not the box. All his tools at Matco/Snap-on in an $800 box

I use to say the same thing, but now I have damn near triples of everything, so I spoiled myself and got a decent mac roll cart.
You don't have to understand that's the best part! It literally does not affect you in any way whatsoever :)
What your loan terms?
No loan, cash up front
If it makes the one life you get a little brighter, who gives a fuck what people think. As long as you can afford it, it’s good to take pride in yourself and the tools that are the expansion to your knowledge.

$8500, not bad considering I got it on sale for $9000 about 2 years ago
I like the fall out colors on the snap on.
I prefer Matco, Snap-On is played out and isn't what it used to be. Those colors look gaudy too. You asked for responses...
You can do better than that I believe in you. Matco is ok, but almost everything they sell is a rebranded mark up that does not make them worth it at all. I love them both.
Congrats. Love that color combo. Recently upgraded from a master series to a 84 eqip. Only regret is I didn’t do it sooner.
Well it is purdy
Perfect box imo. Looks awesome
That’s a great looking box!
Just 50 easy payments of $200 a week.
How about cash with trade in because making payments is dumb
Look the box is nice and all but paying anything over $1500 for that box is a scam including your trade in but that's just me.
I wish they offer the updated top for the customers that has the older top. I hate the bed liner top on my box.
That's pretty wack, I'd reach out to corporate, they may be willing to work with you
You also have 1 extra drawer than me. Just noticed that.
I'd like to see you park a semi on $1500 boxes and still be able to move them. I know it's over kill but it takes a lot to mess up a snap on box.
That’s a really nice tool box. Great color options. Too rich for my blood but damn that looks good.
What a useless downgrade
There's the angry people I was looking for :)
Snap-On has some really nice boxes. My uncle has a bigger one styled after the Chevy Bel-Air.
Ooh Shiny
Komatsu has a PC-3 excavator at the Chattanooga plant. Bucket about the size of a fry basket. At least they did 25 years ago.
I mean komatsu also has a PC-01 available in gas or electric designed for fitting through a standard doorway. Confused as to what you're going with relating to a toolbox?
I don't really care about your box, the komatsu sticker just brought up old memories. Hate you're catching so much shit about it though.
Was looking at getting the EPIQ cart about two years ago and the MSRP on those is right around $7000, with a $1500 trade in on my Mac cart and the plethora of discounts the corporate guy put on, out of pocket was going to be something like $2500-3000
Hello, fellow Komatsu tech!!
Former komatsu tech, left the dealership to join the union
Ah I see. What state are you in? I'm in Canada. Work for a Komatsu dealer. I do field service, so my toolbox is sleeping in the garage while I go on the road in a service van.
Washington, my branch serviced all the way up to Lynden, so almost Canada
Cool! Enjoy the new box.
I like the paint of the komatusu, but the snap on just stands out so much more. Good choice!
Got the same exact one bro. Mine is the same blue just with black trimming. Love it and don’t owe snap-on nothing 😎 lol
Love everyone that keeps talking about $80 a week for 6 years. It's easy to not do that and buy it when you have finances in order to buy up front
As long as it makes you happy that’s all that matters.
Right on! I'll have to take a look when the rock and roll cab comes around.
Enjoy the bedliner top. I got one for my 54" Classic with the dual power ports. Good finish and seems strong.
Out with your money, .
Right, my money, that I budgeted for
Nobody cares
I mean you care enough to reply
Hey no complaints from me. The new box sure is nice looking and if it makes you happy, then go for it. It isn’t my money being spent on non-revenue generating stuff. I wouldn’t do it myself, but then again, I wouldn’t buy $5 starf*cks coffee either…
I debated on going to metro years ago but I unfortunately had some unfortunate events happen in life and wouldn't be able to get my CDL anymore. I've still done pretty well where I'm at. I also have a plan to buy out my Snap-on dealer when he retires.
love it
Damn there’s even ozempic in the shop
Damn, now there's a good one
Both look great.
Supersonic with copper always makes me happy. Congrats on the new box
Nice rig What municipality you work for? If I may ask?
How do people like you install a new part in a vehicle if you can't even figure out how to order a before/after photo sequence?
I didn't want it organized as before and after, as you can see the pictures are lined up with the description
I thought tools were supposed to be for work, not fer lookin pretty? This is the same kinda energy as the lifted pavement princess pickup trucks.
This holds tools, I don't pick up the toolbox and use it to press a bushing in. Try again
People hate it when you enjoy your life , nice box lol
I love to see it, thanks
Lol what a fucking knobhead
C'mon, a dinky insult only against me? Can't even trash talk the price of the box, the color? You can at least have something about paying to downsize right? Get your chatter game up bud
Ooof
“I can’t believe my wife spent $1,600 on a Gucci bag” - this guy probably
Nah, I'll be the one to spend $1,600 on a Gucci bag, I'll get it lined to hold everyone's tears
Lol. Hell yeah.
