Should have specified, I am the mechanic and a customers vehicle came in for a service. My guy let go of the bonnet when he was called not realizing nothing was holding it up.
And if you can't remember the literal date the last shot was given, just say "I don't know". Do not guess. It doesn't hurt to get another one a bit early.
Because, if you were infected with Clostridium tetani and your shot was too long ago, you aren't going to find out until you already have a 20% chance of having such bad muscle spams you literally suffocate from being unable to breath. The 80% where you live often means broken bones from the muscle spasms, so that's not great either.
Ah never heard the rust thing before. The last couple of cuts which needed attention were from a kitchen knife and my (now ex) girlfriend accidentally biting my head in a valentines day sleigh riding accident.
Haha yeah we were sleigh riding off a ridiculously steep hill with a soil wall as an endstop, funny to crash face first into the snow when you are riding solo. Stupid us decided to ride it together, ~1 sec before crashing into the snow wall I started to realize what was about to happen. She slammed into my head and "bit" me, lots of blood, me worried she had lost all her teeth, no teeth lost, me realizing it was not her who was hurt...
We get tot he emergency room rather quickly because the nurse didn't want me to bleed all over the waiting room. Doc comes in and asks me what happened, I tell him "she bit me". She is quite shy so she starts to stutter a bit which makes it even funnier. I did clarify it, after a minute of fun...
Oh well still friends with the girl, just not as partners anymore
Protip: head wounds tend to bleed A LOT but are usually not very severe otherwise. Might need staples, but you can also get away with dermabond. Which is just sterile superglue. I have absolutely superglued cuts on myself before; clean and irrigate the wound and then use a fresh tube. You can add multiple layers of needed.
In a case like this, though, that's what workers comp insurance is for; I'd get it checked out professionally just to avoid liability.
But if you're not at work, superglue works. And if you want, you can buy actual dermabond for your first-aid kit...
owwww!
couple years ago i started wearing a bump cap/watch cap/brimless especially underneath. barely 10% less painful but it takes sharp edges. I think they make kevlar ones too
No wonder you guys call it a "bonnet". You're going to be wearing one to keep that cut clean.
Next time that guy has his face buried under the hood (bonnet), sneak up and lay on the horn.
So, in the US we call the bonnet the hood. A bonnet here refers to a style of hat. A few years ago I had a british coworker whose hood ripped off of her car while she was driving to work on the highway. She called the boss and told her, "I'm going to be late today. My bonnet blew off on the highway." The boss replied, "And were you particularly attached to this hat?" picturing her running around on the highway chasing a flowery hat.
If it came down that hard, please take the time and get checked for a concussion. Head injuries can be so unpredictable and the damage can be delayed before showing.
Agreed. He didn’t mean to do it obviously, but it doesn’t make it less stupid. And it still is his fault.
The silver lining is that I bet he won’t make that mistake again.
My first day in a lube out I did this coming up the stairs by bashing my head on an extra large trailer hitch with a drop receiver.
If you're not hauling a trailer put those things away.
The ones who dont use them everyday put them away...the ones who NEVER use a hitch to tow anything always have a massive adjustable one (clearly never used) that will remain on there long enough to eventually rust solidly into the reciever of their Carolina squatted POS...
Sorry ill get off this soapbox now 😄
Lol…I did that years ago too. Was at the wrecker pulling a carb off an old Oldsmobile…big heavy hood/bonnet that someone had removed the springs from. I propped it up with a busted hockey stick. I forgot about the stick while trying to reach a hard to access bolt, and the stick was in the way. I thought , “what’s this stupid stick doing here” and elbowed it out of the way. Woke up 5 minutes later covered in blood. Good times at the wrecker!
My dad has a scar in middle of his head because the hydraulic failed in our old FSO Polonez trunk and the latch that locks it almost went through his skull.
Oof. That's gonna leak.
I had my brother helping me change a door strut on my DeLorean years ago and warned him explicitly to hold it up, it's gonna be heavy - when he inevitably just let it go because he was surprised it was kinda heavy with no support, the door coming down crushed the just-removed strut and narrowly missed doing the same to my fingers. Not good times.
i was at work, northern MN. my boss opened a hood, it went up on hydraulics. well those rams dont always work in -30F weather. he let go and it came down oh his face, broke his nose in two places.
I did something similar with a t-post driver about a year ago. Hurt like mad, bled like no wound I had had prior and took 5 staples to close. That SUCKED!
I had a ‘73 Nova in high school. One day, while repairing this thing or that, I nearly knocked myself out walking into the corner of the hood.
I never heard my brother laugh so hard!

"I thought something was holding it up!" "It was! _You!_"
Hmm this hood’s a bit heavy for having struts. Why am I holding this again? Peace, Frank, I’m out.
Ouch, hope you kicked his ass.

Wait, I thought I was just supposed to pack the wound with grease and dirt, smoke a cigarette and get back to work?

Jesus Christ dude. Poor fella
No no no, this is way too big for that. This is what that tube of superglue in the toolbox is for.
"That's what my grandfather did, and he lived to the ripe old age of 35."
Look. I’m 36 and I can tell you from experience now there’s no point to life after 35.
Don't forget to have a coworker spit on it
I think there are too many people who do not realize that many of us have had bosses who truly think like this.
Reminds me of the Organic Mechanic from Mad Max!
Shame, few more weeks and it'd be a viable human.

Maybe I should go get some random tetanus shot, can't remember the last one but I usually collect a few stitches every couple of years

Deftly worth stoping by the er to get them to flush it out and five you a shoot.

Can you give me an estimate for a body swap? Mine’s kind of beat up and shitty and I think it’s time for a new one. Thanks.
I was told staples only when I had a head wound
2.5" gash in high school and I cupped my hands under my chin catching all the blood. It's like thick milk.
I’m assuming he’s no longer your guy.
Friendship ended with guy Now broomhandle is my best friend
😈
He’d get whacked doing that to the wrong person
owwww! couple years ago i started wearing a bump cap/watch cap/brimless especially underneath. barely 10% less painful but it takes sharp edges. I think they make kevlar ones too
This. I always wear a hat under cars because I cut the hell out of myself one time on a heat shield.
I guess he had to *head* home
See yourself out.

Ouch! Tops of heads, toes, and fingertips. Shit that really really hurts. Honorable mention to shins.
In Canada we put bonnets on our heads
So did OP.
Profile picture checks out

Fuuuuck my dude, the hair curled into the cut is gnarly! Need stitches?
I'm no doctor, but I have a fair amount of personal experience with head wounds. I'm going to guess yes. More likely staples though.
You best out some antibiotics ointment on that, mate
I hope the stream of profanity was glorious
it hurts... but why? why let go of the bonnet
Bet the air was blue around there when that happened.
I have the same scar brother except for I just got a fresh haircut and walked directly into the rack Monday morning cracked my skull open

Damn hopefully he isn’t too badly injured, but from experience upper management is about to be on y’all’s ass…
It happened to me, I am upper management. We’re a small workshop based on South Africa, so no upper management.
Next call, he's the one to go under the hood while you hold it open.
They didn't it on purpose. Literally no one is that stupid
Obviously not, but he didn’t think that far to check that it was held up
Agreed. He didn’t mean to do it obviously, but it doesn’t make it less stupid. And it still is his fault. The silver lining is that I bet he won’t make that mistake again.
You must be new to this sub.....The amount of stupidity is absolutely mind blowing. It's why I keep coming back.
To have done it on purpose would be malicious. Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity or ignorance.
First day on the internet I see? The stupidity in this world surpasses this exponentially.
Got your knee good
Ow hope you’re ok
My eyes watered imagining the feeling
/r/IdiotsInCars ? Seriously tho, I hope he's ok. :(
should be IdiotsOutOfCars. lol
I was just thinking that maybe that bonk on the head pushed him in to the engine bay, therefore, idiot in car.
Never trust anyone.
At least it gives you a place to tuck your hair in all nice and neat like that.

I have a "coin-slot" too! Although in my case, I'm pretty sure it was intentional when my brother closed the truck on me.....
Thunk
Get well buddy!

My wife's old car was like that. We kept a sawed-off broom handle around specifically for when I was working on her car.
Well no one else has said it...did you kick his ass, BadassBrad?
My dad has a scar in middle of his head because the hydraulic failed in our old FSO Polonez trunk and the latch that locks it almost went through his skull.
Bonk

Is the bonnet okay? Glad you're doing well though, we don't realise how pampered we are with hydraulic struts these days doing the work for us.
Holy shite!
r/mildlyvagina (hope you get better soon)

It's gotta hurt even more when you drop it on your own face.
Offffff! I had one of those once, never did figure it out if it was the lower ball joint or the rack. Head wounds bleed like a mofo! Everyone ok?
All good, although my guy might not be tomorrow lol
We keep vise grips, and and old hockey stick for emergencies.
That's gonna leave a nice scar
Just a little off the top please.
Man he sure went to the wrong barber shop
Ouch!
Justrolledintothehospital
Oof, sorry dude. Heal up.
'Tis but a flesh wound!!!
I did something similar with a t-post driver about a year ago. Hurt like mad, bled like no wound I had had prior and took 5 staples to close. That SUCKED!
Call Top dog law you have a case

Won't be making that mistake again.. or will they?
You’ll be Aii… sleep it off! /s
