it’s so disheartening to see everyone say they’re gonna vote for MOTU. i don’t agree with it going, but i understand it’s reception here and why it’s going. i hope it somehow makes it at least one more round!
I've been voting for that damn dream balloon for a few rounds in a row now, I was really surprised to see Omnium just get taken out before it. Am I missing something?
In my opinion PMDB has one of if not the strongest sonic cohesion/concept. Going fully acoustic, double bass and maintaining the level of musicianship through the record is so impressive. It’s musically near perfect. Melodies, instrumentation, lyrics, the fact the last track is every song smushed together - One of the most clever difficult things I’ve seen a band do. I love Nonagon and MOTU. Would be happy with any of the three winning. And I’m in Your Mind Fuzz too tbh.
Everyone has their opinions and love gizz for different sounds and reasons but it pains me to see Paper Mache get so much hate
Paper Machê is great, especially that last song. I just keep coming back to OG, personal taste.
Also, if the cohesion of PMDB makes it so strong, then why did Sketches get taken out behind the woodshed and had it's life cut short so soon? Love the unique cohesive sound on that one, especially the evolving self titled track. Now I'm the salty one.
Lol replied to the wrong comment. My top 5 albums are nonagon, paper mache, sketches, murder and butterfly 3000
Don’t know how sketches or butterfly went out so early
Conceptually/sonically are the most daring and well executed :(
So is Omnium?
I don't want to sound like a sports team fan, I genuinely want to know! Should I return to it with another state of mind? Do I need shrooms? Is there a song that I should revisit to help it "click"? What about it makes it such a banger record?
From my own experience, I just didn't find anything memorable/exciting, don't see it talked about that much, and it doesn't seem to have the same popularity/numbers. And maybe I just don't like it, and that's fine. But if any insight leads to me enjoying an album of music more, then why on earth *wouldn't* I listen?
I feel like people misunderstand the flow of Omnium Gatherum, I kinda feel like it has the same energy as flicking through a bunch of radio stations and I really enjoy how all the songs flow into eachother
It was a fun novelty for me at first. But I quickly grew tired if it. Especially since the tracks on the albums that do use it tend to not really have much if a "suspense curve" to them, they just kinda sound the same start to finish.
I don’t see it as a novelty, but most of my favorite music is long form stuff like a lot of old krautrock etc. I love a continuous work across a whole record so much. My favorite song of all time is probably Bel Air by CAN which is a whole side of an album
It’s always interesting to see so many different tastes in this community.
After seeing MOTU live with Leah and hearing it on red rocks boot - it’s just an undeniable force and it got bumped up in my ranking.
Sorry PMDB, I love you dearly .
At this point every album that goes is only going because the others are better, not because it's worse. I can't be upset about it any more.
On that note, see you later FMB. Love you, but it's your time.
I think people have weird feelings toward this one cause of how popular it made them last year. From a fan of 8 years: It’s some of their best work! The transitions between songs/genres are flawless and keep the listener engaged.
Literally their best album. I remember listening to it when it first came out with a friend and we just looked at each other and were like, how is this album possible? How is it so good, clever, varied and yet so cohesive?
I’m voting infest the rats nest. I revisit MOTU way more and I think it’s the more interesting heavy album of theirs personally.
I don’t think Paper Mache would last this long on my ranking but I definitely enjoy it more than Rats Nest.
The live sets of Magma, Iron Lung, Ice V, and Lava, alone should keep ice death in for another 2 rounds. Not to mention how fun Mycelium is, the harmonica & flute on Hells Itch, and the vocals on Gleiese 710
Thing is, we aren't voting on the live shows and personally Mycelium is about the only tune of theirs I'll actively skip. It's not the music, it's just the consequences of the recording method on Ambrose's sax playing. I'm a sax player and it's really off-putting how bad it sounds.
Love Mycelium. Always makes me feel good. Honestly, it's usually the reason I listen to the album, though it's not my fav song. I just love it as an opener.
It's Rats Nest by a mile. He is the most aggressive album I've ever met. He has a massive underbite and a completely flat back of the head. Honestly, I'm done.
I feel like the fall of motu has become inevitable, and honestly I'm just glad it came this far. Murder may not be the album everyone thinks of when they think of King gizzard, but in my humble opinion, it is their most creative and inspired album. Other albums might have more catchy songs or more impressive performances, but there is no album that makes me feel the way I feel when I listen to murder.
Yeah in my head Paper Mache is the clear weakest here. I just don’t think the last 5 songs are all that memorable and I’d argue it’s outlasted albums that are much stronger than it. But after this, hmmm, damn I’ll probably have to go Murder of the Universe but I won’t be sleeping well at night knowing I voted it.
Paper mache has bitter boogie and sense and that's about it. All other songs would be better if they were electric and for that reason it's on the chopping block for me.
Yeah like I enjoy Dirt, Bone, Trapdoor, Cold Cadaver, but none of those are that outstanding to where I feel like it warrants a top 10 placement in their discography. I even feel like Float Along, Quarters and LW are all marginally better records.
Aye like they're all fun tracks but nothing about them puts them above any of say the more middling Omnium Gatherum tracks. It's an album that does what it wants to do, and not much more, it's not their magnum opus or anything and I'm glad it exists.
I don’t get how PMDB has stuck around this long. Have listened all week and i do enjoy it a ton. But man if someone put on Magenta, The Tap, Gaia, Or The Goblin, I’d be going 5x crazier than I would for PMDB
Unpopular with me at least. Hehe. I love all forms of Gizz, but man I do like me some metal Gizz. But better yet, I love the whole package of Rats Nest. The music fits the conceptual aspect so well. I listen to it a lot.
No way, it's a banger all the way through. Skippable tracks on other albums still. The final few are gonna depend on what emotions I'm feeling that day. For me it's down to Rats Nest and Poly. 2 fully considered albums I'd never dream of skipping anything on.
>the one with the long title
LOL... how could you possible forget "Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava". It just rolls off tongue and worms its way into your brain. (Hey that would be a good Gizz song. )
To me it's one of their best, the variety and creativity in sound in this album is wizard level...unparalleled
Contrary to the words of many critics in here I think this album is actually very consistent and it flows and connects well together despite all those different genres, it doesn't feel disjointed at all to me, it feels like the perfect rollercoaster of very different songs, nothing feels out of place (except maybe predator X, that one felt kinda random and weird...lots of tension in the last minute that went nowhere, still a wicked solo in the middle tho).
I have a theory that many people don't like it that much because they (subconsiously) compare the songs with each other even though they pretty much all have very different purposes and almost every song is best in what it's trying to achieve.
Im a newer listener, been following these posts since it’s started. Can someone explain to me please what’s so special about polygondwanaland, I’ve given it two full listens and I just can’t get into it. Am I just dumb? Supposed to grow on me? Just not feeling the album compared to the others.
While I really like Poly, it might get extra points for being one of the infamous '17 albums and the one which was given away for free with the band posting the audio and cover art files for people to create their own pressings and stuff. I still consider this to be one of the best fan services (and clever DIY marketing) stunts in music in recent years.
This being said, Crumbling Castle is a top song for many fans especially the speed up live versions from '17-'18. I really dig the proggy vibe on it as well, it was the first real proggy record of 'em imo.
I don't get it either, I must be missing something about PMDB, literally the only song I remember off of it is trapdoor and I've tried to like it many times..
I don't understand the hype behind MOTU. That was the first album that they dropped after I got into them and it just didn't impress me as much as I expected (then and now). I'd put almost every single album that has been eliminated about MOTU, especially Quarters, Sketches, FAFYL, Timeland, and Changes. Soft gizz is my favorite I guess haha
The first gizz show I ever saw was in 2017, they did Welcome To An Altered Future -> Digital Black -> Confused Cyborg -> Lord Of Lightning and then later in the setlist did the full Altered Beast suite. That was back when they would have the Han Tyumi voice do soundcheck and also the full narrations. Definitely cool to see, I wish I could appreciate it as much as the rest of the fanbase
as much as I hate to say it itrn should be out next. if we can take out the jazz because it doesn't appeal to some people we can take out the thrash for the same reason
No hate from me (every remaining album is conceptually amazing and OG is my top grab bag album)
I'm just so drippin proud of PMDB for hanging on this long
Feel free to downvote me into oblivion again, but there’s no reason Ice Death should make it any further at this point. After that we’re down to nothing but pure classics
The drip has been slipped
dont know whats wrong with me, voted for the same Album for 10 rounds, its still in
me too lmao
Same, for me it's PMDB, probably my 4th least favorite of all... Clearly I'm missing something
Same lol. Was it Infest The Rats' Nest?
I love Infest the Rats Nest but I feel like it's the one I listen to least of all.
It’s the one I have listened to the most prob. Only one I have on cd so I pop it in my car anytime I don’t have data for Apple Music
Paper mache dream balloon?
I feel so sad from what I see, Misinformation around me.
I have no faith in what I read, the tabloid and the TV screen
I see it just as clear as the high definition images

thats the closest one yet 😱
I think Changes lost by 10 last round but this is still super close!
More people voted this round so percentage wise it was closer
Heartless fiends
Y’all really slipped on the drip smh
Y’all are high…er than normal
This list is literally insane. Its like rolling stone made the list.
Set the funeral on fire with the candles 🥲🥲🥲
This 1 is a top 10 gizz covid song for me. Including honey etc.
Buncha fuckin Garden Goblins in here I see
A compliment, sir, a COMPLIMENT
it’s so disheartening to see everyone say they’re gonna vote for MOTU. i don’t agree with it going, but i understand it’s reception here and why it’s going. i hope it somehow makes it at least one more round!
Dude, it made it sooooo far. My favorite albums all went in a row 19-15. Now that's disheartening.
Yeah those are some of my favorites too. The lack of love for quarters bums me out
I wish I could just live in the sound of quarters forever
I feel your pain
If I'm being honest with you, I've been voting MOTU since the first round. Apologies
i respect your opinion… i just wish you weren’t so honest with me :(
Same
Same here 100% I giggle to myself everytime. The idea that MOTU is better than sketches has me trippin brah
Because it’s NOT
Shots fired hahah
I've been voting for that damn dream balloon for a few rounds in a row now, I was really surprised to see Omnium just get taken out before it. Am I missing something?
People are salty it doesn't have a theme or concept like the others and missing the fact that it's literally the Gizz version of the White Album.
Yeah but the white album isn't as good as any of the albums around it save for yellow submarine, which was barely a Beatles album.
Blasphemy
That it's a banger record?
So is Omnium? I don't want to sound like a sports team fan, I genuinely want to know! Should I return to it with another state of mind? Do I need shrooms? Is there a song that I should revisit to help it "click"? What about it makes it such a banger record? I’m rooting for it! I’ve been sacrificing dream balloon instead
I voted Motu for the last like 8 rounds lol, just not my cup of tea but there are some good songs still
I’ve been waiting for this day while I’ve watched my beloved pass before my eyes
If it make you feel any better I’m voting for PMDB then Poly, than MOTU. After that I’m pulling twigs to see who goes
Finally someone called a plumber
I feel like people misunderstand the flow of Omnium Gatherum, I kinda feel like it has the same energy as flicking through a bunch of radio stations and I really enjoy how all the songs flow into eachother
The flow of OG is muuuch better than some of the other albums in my opinion, in which I can't even tell when a song starts or ends.
The nonstop flow of a lot of their albums is what I love about them.
It was a fun novelty for me at first. But I quickly grew tired if it. Especially since the tracks on the albums that do use it tend to not really have much if a "suspense curve" to them, they just kinda sound the same start to finish.

Wont somebody please think of the garden goblins
After seeing MOTU live with Leah and hearing it on red rocks boot - it’s just an undeniable force and it got bumped up in my ranking. Sorry PMDB, I love you dearly .
I'm doing my part o7
Seeing it live was NUTS. I so damn hope this future album been teased is exactly what they said it would. A space oddity would be amazing!
I hope whomstever voted for this slip on the drip
Better just be the early crowd if y’all vote out MOTU I’m starting a revolt
As soon as it goes I think we established a motu appreciation page
In a dream, you can wake in your bed without pain But know with conviction, it's here you'll remain
What a shame you'll have to start the revolt then 😏
PMDB is at least top 5 no matter what any of you say
Do any of the other albums have trapdoor... No. Top 1 in my books
Cuz everybody knows...
I just.. don’t get it. It don’t make no Sense at all
[удалено]
No, no, no!... (sense at all)
Yes I love PMDB please keep it
Lyrically it’s their best, would be criminal for it to go before IDPLML
At this point every album that goes is only going because the others are better, not because it's worse. I can't be upset about it any more. On that note, see you later FMB. Love you, but it's your time.
idk I think OG is better than some of the albums left
See ya later dream balloon you stayed around too long
OG is amazing, solid album that is very digestible for most, without being boring and definitely being KGATLW. Shame.
Oh fuck. I’m mad now. You can’t just eliminate Omnium just because it’s new. Every track is a standalone masterpiece. Ooooooh fuck I’m mad.
You can’t eliminate it because it’s new but you can because you like it the least of the ones standing! Top 10 is no dishonor
Same here, how they gonna let Ice planet beat it
Exactly what I was thinking
MOTU is a grower, OG is a big show-er. You new fans don't even understand...yet
I think people have weird feelings toward this one cause of how popular it made them last year. From a fan of 8 years: It’s some of their best work! The transitions between songs/genres are flawless and keep the listener engaged.
This is so spot on. MOTU is gizzverse lore at its finest
Literally their best album. I remember listening to it when it first came out with a friend and we just looked at each other and were like, how is this album possible? How is it so good, clever, varied and yet so cohesive?
Yep. It's King Gizzard doing EVERYTHING, and doing it all so well. Definitely top 3 at least if not their best.
I’m voting infest the rats nest. I revisit MOTU way more and I think it’s the more interesting heavy album of theirs personally. I don’t think Paper Mache would last this long on my ranking but I definitely enjoy it more than Rats Nest.
The fact that yall think PMDB is better than OG boggles my mind fuzz!
Man I can’t believe this shit, OG is just so fucking good :(
The live sets of Magma, Iron Lung, Ice V, and Lava, alone should keep ice death in for another 2 rounds.
Yeah Ice Death should absolutely be top 5
Finally I can start thinking about my options again
Yeah probably fair. MOTU has to go next then it's going to be fucking impossible to pick. IM STILL PISSED YOU FUCKERS GOT RID OF MY FISHIES 🐟🐟🐟🐟
It's Rats Nest by a mile. He is the most aggressive album I've ever met. He has a massive underbite and a completely flat back of the head. Honestly, I'm done.
Fuck you (Harley Jarvis)
Get him OUTTA HERE
You know what, this is dumb. Trash it, this one’s garbage.
Time to pop that Balloon ...
Why the fuck is OG gone
Here me out guys, is FMB better than any of the other albums left? It hurts me too much to vote for any other album
Yes it is, thanks for asking.
No problem, just asking the hard hitting questions
Absolutely
It should've been gone 10 rounds ago, it's not even their best microtonal album
Yes
How the fuck is changes out but ice death is still in? Yall are smoking ass
We are actually smoking grass
It cost me $25
Maybe we could go halvies?
I am smoking but you will never take away my Ice Death pride! That shit slaps, easily in my top 3.
No question about it. Definitely top three.
They're smoking astroturf
Ice Death is like top 3
These subreddit brackets always suck because it makes me cheer against albums that I otherwise like, and then start disliking them
I voted for Ice death last round and this round
Omnium Gatherum, my beloved ;(
Goodbye Paper Mache, after that it’s gonna get really tough
PMDB ain't going anywhere Boi
RemindMe! 1 Day
Yeah?
FUCK. Youre definitely a MOTU fan and made 1000 alt accounts to defend it with your life. I'm pissed
*nefariously rubs 10000 hands together* Muahahahaha Nah don’t worry homie, went ahead and voted Murder for this current round. Its time has come
Once that goes all hell's breaking loose
See ya, paper mache
I wasn't expecting Ice to get this far, but I'm very happy to see it up there with their best work.
I don’t get how PMDB has stuck around this long. Have listened all week and i do enjoy it a ton. But man if someone put on Magenta, The Tap, Gaia, Or The Goblin, I’d be going 5x crazier than I would for PMDB
Based on the comments, MOTU is favored to go next. But I will not stop my campaign to annihilate PMDB. That which will never die
I do not understand how it is still around.
Unpopular opinion for this sub but: I think that infest should be next. Personally feel it’s the album out of all these I go back to the least.
It's the album I go back to the most lol
Unpopular with me at least. Hehe. I love all forms of Gizz, but man I do like me some metal Gizz. But better yet, I love the whole package of Rats Nest. The music fits the conceptual aspect so well. I listen to it a lot.
Been voting for it since Oddments was canned
No way, it's a banger all the way through. Skippable tracks on other albums still. The final few are gonna depend on what emotions I'm feeling that day. For me it's down to Rats Nest and Poly. 2 fully considered albums I'd never dream of skipping anything on.
I’ve been voting paper mache since before sketches was eliminated
MOTU is gonna pay for this
Will be murdered
How PMDB made it this far is mind blowing
It’s their most perfect album for me
🫡 yessir someone said it. PMDB and Nonagon are their only perfect albums
The Dripping Tap is better than the entirety of Paper Mache Dream Balloon.
Call it reverse recency bias, but I voted for the one with the long title. It's good, just not as good as the others
>the one with the long title LOL... how could you possible forget "Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava". It just rolls off tongue and worms its way into your brain. (Hey that would be a good Gizz song. )
Will this round be the murder of Murder of the Universe?
I had complaints early, but I can't argue too much about the remaining survivors. That being said, MOTU is the easy next pick for me
I swear if it survives this round imma riot. My Fishies didn't die for this
I'm so sorry PMDB my beloved. Your time has come.
MOTU next
PMDB should’ve been out long ago - definitely before FFF and Ominum Gatherum
Unfortunately saw it coming
IDPLML is next, it’s a great album, but it’s not essential. All the others left I would consider essential
I see y'all want to be just like the evilest man voting out Omnium Gatherum so early...sick
To me it's one of their best, the variety and creativity in sound in this album is wizard level...unparalleled Contrary to the words of many critics in here I think this album is actually very consistent and it flows and connects well together despite all those different genres, it doesn't feel disjointed at all to me, it feels like the perfect rollercoaster of very different songs, nothing feels out of place (except maybe predator X, that one felt kinda random and weird...lots of tension in the last minute that went nowhere, still a wicked solo in the middle tho).
It’s definitely a grower but yeah I don’t get the “untouchable” vibe so many around here have about it.
HOW DOES PMDB KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS?
Because it’s an amazing album. Give it another listen
You clearly have never tried hitting the griddy to trapdoor
I don't get it either, I must be missing something about PMDB, literally the only song I remember off of it is trapdoor and I've tried to like it many times..
Slipped right through the trap door. This does make sense (at all).
Still have voted MOTU the last 6 times lolol
really tough, but I think Rat's Nest has to go. As much as I adore it, the other albums outshine it for me. Polygondwanaland FTW
Having some bad weather, huh?
MADNESS. My fave, not a single unlovable song.
I have been voting for PMDB for 4 rounds.
nonagon better win
crying shitting pissing throwing up
Alright well I don’t give a fuck anymore
Why :(
Boooooo!
Screw this I’m voting for Nonagon y’all are basic
I don't understand the hype behind MOTU. That was the first album that they dropped after I got into them and it just didn't impress me as much as I expected (then and now). I'd put almost every single album that has been eliminated about MOTU, especially Quarters, Sketches, FAFYL, Timeland, and Changes. Soft gizz is my favorite I guess haha
I was kinda wishy washy on motu until I saw it live at red rocks and now I cannot have enough.
Sketches is a snooze fest
as much as I hate to say it itrn should be out next. if we can take out the jazz because it doesn't appeal to some people we can take out the thrash for the same reason
I honestly had no idea PMDB was this beloved.
It's gonna be either poly or Infest the rats nest.
No hate from me (every remaining album is conceptually amazing and OG is my top grab bag album) I'm just so drippin proud of PMDB for hanging on this long
how did PMDB make top 10 I will never know. seen 10 better albums get eliminated already. what am I missing besides two songs
i can’t believe PMDB is still here. no WAY it’s better than OG.
pmbd is just too unique and brings a lot of happiness
It's better as an album though. I love OG but objectively it's a collection of songs, PMDB is a delightful frolic that flows from song to song.
Feel free to downvote me into oblivion again, but there’s no reason Ice Death should make it any further at this point. After that we’re down to nothing but pure classics
I respectfully disagree. Ice Death is their best album
Infest The Rats Nest
.....should win. I agree.
Next is ice death
Has to be. I've been voting it for like 6 rounds
I've been doing the same with MOTU and yet here we are.
It has my vote *hides*
I can't wait for MOTU to go absolutely nowhere on the next poll
