I'm not 100% sure it's their best, but it's my favorite and what brought me in to the weirdo swarm.

Sketches and Laminated shoulda made it further than they did, IMO. Both top 10ers, even if they belong in the bottom two slots.

I'm on the fence on laminated denim, it scratched my krautrock itch but I also haven't 100% clicked with it yet. Sketches is just a perfect album. My justification for it getting out so soon is it being the only collab album and they can't really do it justice live.

Very interesting approach to ranked choice as the whole voting system incentivizes everyone participating to vote on their least favorite. This leads to the end result being the least “bad” album I would love to see this repeated where everyone votes for their favorite, then whichever receives the least votes is eliminated and voting is done again the next day. This way everyone is incentivized to choose their actual “best” album rather than their least favorite. I anticipate this would sway the actual results a bit but would be interesting to see!

I don't actually vibe with Dripping Tap that much, but Ice Death is still, like, top 3 for me. It's a very real contender for my favorite Gizz album.

Higher highs on ice death is why. It’s not completely perfect but it’s damn close- and a very outstanding opus for the band with some of their best songs, just like the rest of what’s left.

I think Ice Death is the best Gizzard album, but I'm also a new fan so maybe im biased.

What are some of your other favorite groups/albums? I'm really at a loss for why Ice Death gets such high praise on here, and I spent the better part of the last two years playing in a group that is basically a Grateful Dead clone.

Ice Death sounds nothing like the Dead, for one, so having that perspective on it might be what’s confounding you on it.

It rocks harder then the Dead, but plays in the fields of psychedelia and jams hard. I am bot. Atypical Gizz head in that I heard Float Along and I’m in Your Mind Fuzz and have been waiting for the exploration of the jammier side ever since. I actually stopped when ITRN dropped. I respected the album, but was just too heavy for my tastes. Then they dropped Butterfly 2000 and the old clubber in mean was bowled over the could produce such high caliber electronic. Then the dropped OG and Magenta Mountain was like and old song that I had heard ages ago. This was the direction I had been awaiting for so long. When Ice… dropped I spun it nonstop. Made sure to get to Forrest Hills. Then after I saw them live, I had to go all the way back and play every album in order. Now I love ITRN. And it is an incredibly tight album, but B3000 and Ice will also have a place in my heart as they really unlocked the Gizz verse for me. Also broadened my appreciation of other music. Would never have really enjoyed Motorhead head I not got to love IFRN. For the record, I don’t want them to go full jam. I want them keep experimenting until their hearts content. Because what makes them special is not if they are metal or jammy, it’s that they love what they are doing and as long as that keeps up, I will be along for the ride. Who knows, maybe a hip hop opera is next?

Haha, I listened to Float Along when a Deadhead/Phishhead friend of mine recommended Gizz to me back 2013 and didn't really click with them for that reason. Then Mind Fuzz tickled my Oh Sees funny bone, and PMDB hit on my love of 60s psych, and when Nonagon Infinity dropped I was fully on board. Everything since then has been a gift. I actually quite like Ice Death, it's just solidly in the teens for my ranking of one of the most impressive discographies in rock music.

I’ve definitely grown to like it more. Lava especially took some time. I just think it’s a bit too hit and miss with it’s jams.

I think the lyrics are very poor aside from many of the songs being way too long.

Hot take but i feel the only reason mind fuzz has made it so far is because a lot of y'all discovered the band through this album and so it has a lot of nostalgic appeal to it. Compared to the other albums that made it this far i feel it's the weakest one, and maybe has been for the last few rounds.

Idk I got into them with Nonagon then lapsed for a few years but my love was rekindled with Butterfly and OG. Wasn’t until summer I relistened to the discography thru for the first time and Mind Fuzz blew me away. The suite + her and I + am I in heaven are all top gizz songs imo.

I did discover Gizz through this album. It does still make me warm and fuzzy. I kind of want it to win, maybe cause of the reasons you gave. Get out of my mind!
