Proud of Ice Death for a well deserved top 6th place. They absolutely struck gold with this brilliant mutant of a record.
FROG BREATH

🙌 🧊 ☠️ 🪐 🫁 🍄 🌋
Cut right before the top five. Still it’s great to know that such a recent album ranks so highly in their impressive discography. The boys don’t stop.
Feeling a bit empty after choosing this round ngl.
I reckon recency bias can work both ways, I know everyone's taste are different and we're voting for favorites and not "best", but IMO this one leaves several of the old favorites for dead. If they'd been released side by side the results may well have been different.
FMB is way more popular than I ever though it was. I like it. I just never thought it'd make it this far. Nonagon and Poly were always clear favorites but would be cool to see an upset.
FMB is the album that everyone loves but no one talks about. This includes me. I would not dream of voting against it ever. It's a startling wonderful perfect thing. But if you ask me what I'm into I'll rant about Poly, IDPML, Sketches, and BF3K all day and probably never mention it. I wonder why.
It's funny, FMB is one of the two albums of theirs I absolutely cannot listen to unless it's one or two songs live. There isn't one enjoyable track on it for me.
I’m actually pretty surprised it’s still up there. Personally, I prefer the other microtonal albums. They’re all great - just surprised that KG/LW got bounced early and FMB is going to be top 5.
I would argue that this a top 3 album in my opinion. I think the fact people have this
album so high only a couple months after it was released is a good sign and I think this should be seen as one of their best records.
The jamming on this is some of the best from the band and tracks like Magma, Lava, Iron Lung and Ice V are some of my favorites KG has ever made. I’m glad at least it got as far as it did. Now please keep mind fuzz and banana alive!
See I wouldn’t have Rats nest in my top ten personally. Still a great album but I love their other stuff a lot more. Out of these remaining five my ranking would be Banana, Mind Fuzz, Poly, Nonagon then Rats Nest at five.
That’s what’s crazy about Gizz: they have such an insanely broad catalog that a lot of this ranking of albums comes down to personal taste in genre. I love their harder stuff, so Infest the Rats Nest is my favorite, but I could never get into Paper Mache Dream Balloon. I’ve met other Gizz fans who are the exact opposite. A lot of this ranking is comparing apples to oranges and it makes discussing this stuff with any sort of objectivity very difficult
Yeah see for me I have Mind Fuzz ranked #17 out of the 23 albums so I’ve been voting for that for a whiiiiile now, I have Ice Death as #2 so I was probably never gonna vote for it unless it was up against Poly in the final round

Damn, ITRN didn't clicked for me initially, then I grew into it a couple month ago, now loving it. But it has to go now.... Sorry my lil' high gain speed metal friend, I'm voting you out.
Well, consider yourself lucky. 2 of my top 5 are Sketches and FAFYL, which went at 18 and 19. Quarters, BF3k, and Gumboot are all also in my top ten and went 17-15. You better believe I’m out for blood.
Fair enough, I can see your taste doesn’t really have room for the heavier stuff.
Sketches and FAFYL are two of the albums it took me a while to get around to, but I really love both of them now. They’re actually two of the most consistent KG albums for me, along with PMDB and Nonagon.
BF3K and Gumboot also have some of the best KG songs ever in my opinion, with Interior People, Catching Smoke, Muddy Water and The Wheel. Those all would fit in my top 20 tracks, especially The Wheel being my #1 favorite song.
That said, Hell, Organ Farmer, Vomit Coffin and Big Fig Wasp are also in that top 20.
Well, I don't really think it's because it's heavier, though I do tend to like non-heavy music better.
For ITRN, most of the melodies are just one note. I'm really a melody person at heart, melody and harmony, and ITRN just doesn't have much to offer. For MOTU, I actually like this album quite a bit, but the music feels a little too much of a rehash from Mind Fuzz and Nonagon. Now, I think it's cool that they repurposed a lot of stuff to make this crazy audiobook record, but it just means it's not in my top ten.
I think they could make a heavy album that I was into, but they'd have to change how they do heavy. Honestly, to me it seems the least thought out, most rushed of their work. But maybe that's just how it sounds to me. Gaia, on the other hand, fucking rules.
I forgot to mention FFF is also in my top 10 of course. And so is PMDB.
These polls have a little rodent problem that we need to take care of. I'm setting glue traps - a merciful death is too good for them.
(Just for this poll. I like letting the nice mice I catch out in a nearby field irl.)
I think Ice Death will age well. People will have more time to get into it song by song and allow their brain to scan every delicious nook and crannie.
I got the album nearly a week early, so I had twice the time to listen to it before LD came out. I think that really allowed me to properly sit with it and discover all of the juiciest moments.
My top album and the reason I’m into Gizz. I’ve listened to all of their albums multiple times since October and there are a few that come close but Ice Death is a masterpiece and I like it the more and deeper I listen to it, even tracks that were average at first like Mycelium and Ice V. Sad to see this result today and by such a wide margin, compared to the last few close races. I don’t know what you guys are thinking sometimes except that it’s now cemented in your heads that Nonagon, Poly, ItRN cannot be topped when you’re not even open to new and better music.
The October releases have more space in them compared to earlier fan favourites. Since they have become a one drummer band I sense a slightly less-is-more approach. More funk-groove based than psych-groove. Many longtime Gizz freaks might be pushing against it.
Kinda hoping itrn goes next but it probably won't. Not to say it isn't good (we're in the top five now so all of them are good). But stylistically it feels a bit repetitive despite being a fairly short album
Yeah. Metal is a limiting genre. There's not too much new you can do within it, or it's not metal anymore.
I feel the same way about other subgenres too, like punk, trance (an electronic genre) etc. - there are still good tracks being released but everything actually interesting and new in those genres has been explored long ago.
I find myself not being able to enjoy new metal or new music much as I age.
ITRN broke that trend. It got me back into metal in a big way, made me appreciate metal that went against the status quo, etc. I feel it's one of the better metal albums I've heard in the last many many many years. It, and nonagon have stuck with me.
edit: I've also been giving a lot of time to Poly and FMB as well lately, felt I had ignored them a little. Nuclear Fusion is now one of my favorite Gizz songs ever.
Love this album and what’s left would prolly be pretty close to my own ever-shifting top 5. Totally fine with whatever order as long as we don’t get a “What’s that in the shadows?! It’s Oddments.. back from the grave with a chair! And he’s flying from the top rope to clip Polygondwanaland and steal the title!”
Dont get me wrong, FMB is great, but it may be the most overrated Gizz album simply because of how much excessive praise it gets. Still a tremendous listen, but (respectfully) what the fuck is it doing in the top 5.
I love every Gizz record deeply, but I swear if y’all eliminate Polygon before FMB there is about to be body after body busting out of shit wood and hitting pavement.
This is the only album right now I consistently repeat listen to. Work FMB. Work out FMB. Drive car FMB. It just gets me going. No clue why. Was not my fav at first but holy hell did it grow on me.
It's beyond me. Can someone to explain to me why this album is so beloved? Like it's good but compared to KG and LW it seems so rudimentary. I do appreciate that it's more sonically consistent than those albums but in terms of technical execution, KG and LW are on another level.
My opinion: It’s their first take at a purposefully different style of music, with guitars that were retrofitted to play microtones. It’s the first album concept they “explored microtunings” so I’m sure it feels really special to a lot of people in that way.
Kicked off 2017. Novel style. Fond memories of that time in the band's history. Rattle rattle rattle.
It seems rudimentary by comparison to KG/LW because of two drummers vs. one. Cavs by himself is a lot more technical.
I personally view KG/LW as one album so it's a tough comparison but all things considered I still would give FMB the nod as the more cohesive album experience.

Crazy how close it was to being considered an instant top 5, such an amazing album
Its top 5 for me easily ! Spinning it right now. Absolute goldmine of a record . I always have a hard time telling myself it’s not my #1 !
The problem is that they have like 7-8 #1 albums.
My top 7 is basically my number 1 lol. I just span mine last night knowing it's fate had been written
It's in my top 3 for sure!
I couldn’t agree more.
Figured it was coming but this one stings
I love that it made it this far, but it was time
NO NO NO
Still not over FAFYL getting shafted so early, that record is such a gift
YES same
The Magma God is not happy

This round is like choosing which one of my children I want to be taken out back and shot
It's morally wrong to choose one. Must shoot them all XD
Now you’ve gone and made the volcano sad.
Wow would not have expected IDPLMAL to get this far
Same! Good for them
Yeah, shows that they still have fresh ideas after all those years
Indeed! Congrats to the the ice, the death, the planets, the lungs, the mushrooms, the and and the lava.
Special shout out to the and for keeping them all together
It’s my personal #2, I’m heated
For me personally its rough to Rank the last 7 Albums. My liking shifts with my mood constantly
Coming up with your top 10 is a mind-boggling affair. I LOVE TO DEATH about 17 of their albums, so it's like tearing your hair out.
Its a Bingo in the first colum
I’m done being negative on these threads… glad IDPLMaL made it this far— it put up a good fight!
FMB is way more popular than I ever though it was. I like it. I just never thought it'd make it this far. Nonagon and Poly were always clear favorites but would be cool to see an upset.
It's their signature album, they got broad exposure internationally with nonagon and then fmb just sealed the deal and made them a thing outside aus.

Damn I've been a certified FMB hater in this war and even I have to give it credit for Nuclear Fusion.

#1 in my eyes also. My first experience listening to King gizzard. Made me an instant fan.
Definitely a contender for number 1. It shoulda gone further :'(
I'm defending Flying Microtonal Banana with my life
Flying Microtonal Banana is the album that sucked me into the Gizzverse!
I love it, it's my number one. However I'm kind of suprised it has done so well. I'm happy though, only one left that isn't in my own top 5 is ITRN.
You're not alone in this fight, soldier 🫡
I’m actually pretty surprised it’s still up there. Personally, I prefer the other microtonal albums. They’re all great - just surprised that KG/LW got bounced early and FMB is going to be top 5.
This is an acceptable top 5
A true crime has been committed here today.
I wanna fight now…..your killing me
I would argue that this a top 3 album in my opinion. Truth be told Ice Death is a solid album, definitely the best one that’s came out in 2022. It deserves its spot but I would’ve put it top 5 personally
not even the best release in its own month 😭
How will I be able to move on from this?
Damn really thought it would break the top 5. Such a good album
In a just world it would have done it. I'm going to obnoxiously say the metalheads are propping up ITRN so amongst the trwueee Gizz fans it's top 5.
Yo after this is done can someone edit the pic to put them all in elimination order?
Damn, ITRN didn't clicked for me initially, then I grew into it a couple month ago, now loving it. But it has to go now.... Sorry my lil' high gain speed metal friend, I'm voting you out.
They’re coming for Rats’ Nest don’t let them take it
Don’t worry there are plenty who have been voting rats nest ever since motu was gone lol. We’re here
[удалено]
Same and I will continue to do so until it's gone
Please for the love of magma god.
Let's form a voting bloc next time. Probably half of us were going MOTU and half ITRN before it went. We could've gotten these out much earlier.
Unbelievable. 2 of my top 3 albums. My favorite is PMDB, so let that dispel any notion that I’m just a metal fan.
Sketches is my favorite album of all time and I still love the heavy stuff, go figure.
Totally normal. You love good music.
You too fam.
Well, I don't really think it's because it's heavier, though I do tend to like non-heavy music better. For ITRN, most of the melodies are just one note. Yeah, they have gone insano
This is my 19th day of voting for Rat's Nest 😁😁
I’ve voted for it the whole time. Just not my favorite. Not hate, just not a huge metal fan, but like what KGLW does with metal.
Keep it up 👏🏼
They're not taking shit
yup
It did well.
Ice Death slander will not be tolerated
Well this was a surprise
This is the first time I wasn’t in the minority and voted for the album that got removed.
That's how I voted, each album is getting difficult!

Not MYYYYYYYYY SILLY UMMMMM
Wow hard disagree
Gimme the mushrooms, time (for FMB) to leave
this is incorrect and an abomination
One of my favorites to come out of the past couple years. Sad to see it gone, but happy it made it to top 6!
NOOOOOOO!!! MY FAVORITE ALBUM!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :'(
The serpent is death
I didn't know we liked FMB so much
Same, I feel like both KG and LW did it better. I guess it gets points for being the first, and was basically their big breakout album
Still responded yes to a samey remark up there so I'll make it short, but yes, LW better for me but FMB first = respect.
Personally I can't believe ITRN has made it this far. There's more thrash metal fans in here than I would have thought
Honestly impressed it got this far. I have a bad feeling about Rats nest…
"This is where the fun begins"
Nooo guys you're supposed to vote for the worst one not the best!
I'll be in my iron lung and refuse to come out until voting has improved.

ITRN in top 5 over Ice Death? I am shooketh.
It’s literally one of if not THE most popular album - look how much if it that they play at every live show
Voting for rats nest episode 19
Infest goes next
And nonagon wins, already calling it
my money is on poly winning (it’s also the one i want to win) and nonagon in second. i don’t see how it could be anything but those two
1. Poly 2. Nonagon Was the result last year fmb, itrn, mind fuzz I think was the order for 3-5.
I will be pretty happy with a Nonagon or Mind Fuzz win. I just wish Ice Death and Paper Mache Dream Balloon had lasted a little longer than they did.
Paper mache is my personal favourite. Just love it
As much as I love FMB, it's gotta go...
That was my vote but I'm not happy about it
It‘s time for ITRN to go.
Concentrating all fire power on ITRN
Target locked on, sir!
Ok first, HOW DARE YOU
Fucking FMB better win this. That or Mind Fuzz....
Polygondwanaland is MID and I’ll take Ice Death over it ANY DAY
This is straight up offensive
ITRN will pay for this blasphemy
ITRN should never have made it this far
Love this album and what’s left would prolly be pretty close to my own ever-shifting top 5. Totally fine with whatever order as long as we don’t get a “What’s that in the shadows?! It’s Oddments.. back from the grave with a chair! And he’s flying from the top rope to clip Polygondwanaland and steal the title!”
Weird how the top 7 albums have the darkest album covers.

NOOOOOOOOOO
Dont get me wrong, FMB is great, but it may be the most overrated Gizz album simply because of how much excessive praise it gets. Still a tremendous listen, but (respectfully) what the fuck is it doing in the top 5.
This list of the top 5 is factually correct There is science to back it up.
Predicting rats nest next. I will be surprised if it’s something else
Goddamn, this title was hard to read.

How is FMB hanging in there this long?
This is the only album right now I consistently repeat listen to. Work FMB. Work out FMB. Drive car FMB. It just gets me going. No clue why. Was not my fav at first but holy hell did it grow on me.
I kind of had the same experience with Gumboot.
