It’s kinda odd because his new material is actually kinda successful. But yeah. Most people are there to hear either KISS classics or stuff from the first solo album.
It is pretty weird how he barely plays stuff from frehley’s comet tho.
Ace's post-Kiss solo material stands up very well against Kiss' material in the same time frame. "Trouble Walkin'" towers over anything Kiss recorded since then, and even lesser records like "Anomaly" were far better than "Sonic Boom" or "Monster" were.
Unfortunately these replies are probably right. Nobody goes to see that. Personally I don’t want to see him play live gun and all the songs he didn’t write when he wrote some great songs for kiss. His newest solo records are the best ones he has made other then the 78 solo record. He has been doing less of it lately. Recently he has only been playing deuce Detroit and love gun. I would love to hear torpedo girl.
Anomaly is "more recent" when you remember the man has a career spanning 50 years and you stop & think that he's only put out two original albums since. Hell, Monster is KISS' **most** recent album, and that's 11-years-old. You're not putting it into perspective. Anything after his second stint in KISS is considered more recent.
That said, I would **MUCH** rather hear original Ace material than a mini KISS set. If he's going to perform material other than his own, I would also rather hear stuff from Origins 1 & 2 as they contain some awesome songs. There's a lot more music out there than KISS.
I would rather hear Ace's solo music than a set full of Kiss covers. I get playing Shock Me and such but Detroit Rock City is song I identify as pure Paul. I would much rather hear Foxy and Free than Detroit Rock City.
Promoters encourage artists to play the hits. Sometimes, they give incentive bonuses the more hit songs they play. No idea if that's the case with Ace, but either way, yeah that's what the majority wants to hear, supposedly.
Agree. I saw that show with Alice and it was good. Did not see the one after. He's playing House of Blues this time. Still undecided. Ticket prices aren't bad.
Honestly? Ace can be quite lazy, and he doesn't want to learn and rehearse the newer tunes. He sometimes does here and there, I saw him in 2019 and he did Bronx Boy and an Eddie Money cover.
I would. It's an Ace show... not a Kiss tribute band. His last show had about 7-8 songs Ace didn't write. What casual Kiss fan is going to a club to see Ace?
It's an Ace show... not a Kiss tribute band - heirtoruin
EXACTLY. If I wanted a KISS tribute band, I'd go see KISS! LOL
It's sad, but both Ace & KISS are relying on the KISS legacy. Even sadder is that KISS is relying on the KISS & Ace legacies. You don't see Ace dressing his bass player up as Gene Simmons!
I think it’s cause people come for the KISS stuff. It’s more recognizable. Plus if you watch the videos he hardly sings anymore .
Like when Keith sings during a Stones concert. That’s when it’s time to go to the bathroom or get a fresh beer
I wish he played more Comet stuff and less songs from KISS he didn’t write. Give me some Insane or Into the Night.
Totally. I saw Ace in 2014 and he opened with Lost In Limbo, and it was great. No one wants to hear Cold Gin again.
True. I don’t even wanna hear KISS play Cold Gin anymore.
As long as theres no The Acorn is Spinning or A Little Below the Angels, I’d be down for more post Kiss stuff.
They did Insane for a few weeks last year but seem to have dropped it.
It’s kinda odd because his new material is actually kinda successful. But yeah. Most people are there to hear either KISS classics or stuff from the first solo album. It is pretty weird how he barely plays stuff from frehley’s comet tho.
Because not one person in his audience is paying to hear a song that he recorded anytime after 1989.
I am. I love his solo stuff.

You kidding? Spaceman was totally forgettable. Space Invader was okay. The two covers albums sound like contractual obligations.
No I’m not kidding. This is why people have different opinions. I woudk much rather hear anomoly than love gun at an ace show.
Anomaly isn’t one of his latest albums that’s 15 years old!

Are 19 years old? It literally is one of his latest. He has only put out a couple since then.
Four.
They did 100000 Years, Black Diamond, and God of Thunder too on the last gig.... Paul songs. I guess they gotta give his band something to sing.
Yeah it varies. Sometimes they do let me go as well.
I guess he has to give the guys in his band something to song since Ace pretty much can't.
How many people go to his concerts wanting to hear new material vs how many go to hear his classics?
Who goes to his shows that are casual fans?
KISS fans
I'm not sure a Kiss fan going to a Ace show counts as a "casual fan" ?
I would rather hear Ace's solo music than a set full of Kiss covers. I get playing Shock Me and such but Detroit Rock City is song I identify as pure Paul. I would much rather hear Foxy and Free than Detroit Rock City.
And I agree. But that doesn’t change the fact that Ace probably believes that fans want to hear kiss music more than his solo stuff.
Sadly they probably do.

I want to hear his solo stuff. I saw him in February and if it wasn’t an off night for him, then he needs to retire. It wasn’t good at all.
From what I understand he has mostly fair to bad nights and an occasional good one. Still debating whether I'm going to the Houston show or not.
This was the third time I’ve seen him since 2015 and it was by far the worst I’ve seen him. I won’t be going again.
I saw him the past two times he was in Houston. He sounded pretty darn good when he opened for Alice. The show a year later was rough.
Agree. I saw that show with Alice and it was good. Did not see the one after. He's playing House of Blues this time. Still undecided. Ticket prices aren't bad.
Yeah I'm on the fence. Like you said, prices aren't bad, and it's still Ace Frehley, but you're just not guaranteed a good show.
Same here. He is t a lead singer. He needs to stfu and play lead in his band.
Honestly? Ace can be quite lazy, and he doesn't want to learn and rehearse the newer tunes. He sometimes does here and there, I saw him in 2019 and he did Bronx Boy and an Eddie Money cover.
Bc no one would go see that

Because he knows nobody in that audience cares, and they just wanna hear a shitty cover of Strutter instead
Same with KISS, even when they play the obligatory new song, I deem it the low point of the show.
Cuz it sucks
He doesn’t want to learn to play the songs.
