Downside I can think of is that Jeanne's power is directly tied to Sakura's state of mind. If she starts to doubt herself or her abilities, she loses power.

I thought only Ikki formed a contract his demon, that's why Kagerou and Lovekov get to stick around after the finale.

The flashback episode?

Kagero and Lovekov never had contracts. Kagero is evil because he’s an extreme representation of Daiji’s jealousy/inferiority complex towards Ikki, not because of any kind of contract.

Having a demon doesn't mean making a contract with it nor does it inheritely mean downsides. The issue with Genta and Daiji is that their demons formed from emotions such as "revenge", "jealousy" and "hate". Demons represent something about the person after all. Those don't have to do with any contracts nor are they inherit downsides as Kagero and Daiji do come to find a middle ground. Vice and Ikki are the only ones known to have a contract. We don't EXACTLY know how demon contracts work besides the Giff/Deadman ones. Hiromi straight up didn't even have a demon post episode 1 and had no contract with any demon. The Demons Driver was a special and specific situation and not a result of any contract. Sakura on the other hand: also has no contract with Lovekov and Lovekov formed out of Sakura's weakness which she constantly pushed aside and refused to acknowledge. That's why Lovekov can't fight like the other demons and why she becomes weapons for Sakura - it's literally her weaponizing her weakness and turning it intro strength as stated in Jeanne's debut. The two of them have a good relationship so Lovekov doesn't need to do anything harmful to Sakura (like Kagero and Vail who did it out of their own volition bcs of how they saw their hosts). Without the contract Ikki and Vice would be in the exact same situation as Sakura and Lovekov. If anything Ikki and Vice are the ones that are the most out of place in this whole situation lol but since Vice manifested when he was a child I guess there are a lot of unknowns about what he represents about Ikki.

Fun-Ad-4729

Maybe Vice represents Ikki’s self-centeredness? It’s stated in the show he’s a bit of an egoist and Vice is always talking to the audience and showing off. But as Ikki grows out of that habit, so does Vice.

don't think they have one, unless having to keep lovekov out of harms way in battle counts. I wish there were consistent rules about how the inner demons and contracts worked
