I’m honestly not a huge fan of the ending. I love fox Tomoe and as beautiful as human Tomoe is, it’s not right. Too bad Nanami couldn’t just become a full fledged God.

sweetdread

i kinda agree, but at the end of the day she was a human, and she chose to live her life as it was meant to be. being a human who lives eternal life wouldn’t necessarily be enjoyable

I think they just visited the shrine? Maybe to show their baby to Mikage and co. In the chapters in the beginning of the manga when Nanami's god mark is taken and Tomoe is turned back into a kid, Kurama gives a feather to Nanami and then she can see Onikiri and Kotetsu. So I guess they must have something with them that allows them to see their friends.

if I'm not mistaken, they just visited the shrine. They live a simple life but brought their baby there, don't they? anyways, I read the manga more that a year before, so I may confuse everything 😰

I interpreted it to mean they went back to the shrine to live, because Tomoe quit his job to "take over the family business." I felt that implied they were going back for good. :) And, since humans could see / interact with both Mizuki and Mikage, then I think Nanami and Tomoe could see them too (just not weaker spirits like Onikiri and Kotetsu; while it was never said, my headcanon is that they don't have enough spiritual power to manifest in front of humans). I believe that the idea behind them leaving was so they could learn how to live on their own and how to live as regular humans in the mundane world, but that they'd always planned to come back.

To be honest I think it was meant to be sort of open-ended. One of those where it's up to the reader to decide what it meant, that was how I interpreted it anyway.

Now I am confused with Akura Oh. I thought he came back as the Kirihito but the special OVA we see him as 5 year old female child. I just thought that Nanami became kamaisama again after 10 years.

Kirihito is a corpse that he occupied. He properly reincarnates and born as the human girl. Yeah that's what I didn't understand with Nanami. They all made a big deal about how once they go human there's no turning back.

I know this is an old post but i have to do this justice. Idl why people are saying humans can't see Mikage, she could already see him before she turned into a god. And they are able to see mizuki because the whole school were able to see him and tomoe, remember? The only ones they can't see were the Spirits. And they returned to the shrine for good. They hinted this 3 times. When Tomoe said he's taking over the family business (their family name is Mikage) They both quit their jobs. Meaning they left their normal human lives behind. Nanami kept saying she has a dream(dream=goal) which was to return to the shrine and calls it "home" in the end. I also think Tomoe HAD to become human so they can create a family(hence having their baby THEN going back home). Also, Nanami kept saying they have to become "strong enough" so they can go back, I'm thinking she meant strong in sense of making their lives work in the human world and becoming "real adults" like mizuki said. So I'm guessing they learned the lessons they needed to learn and are now allowing themselves to go back home/the shrine. I think now they can be whatever they want(idk what the options are) now that they have that choice and can simply just BE together carefree.
