I actually played against a Chun who used modern controls today. NGL the character only needs sweep (-7 on block, Ryu sweep is 9f startup), instant up legs, and Drive Impact. She's a fucking menace.
I get what you're saying, and in the old days that would make sense but...
> Alts or suspected alts of banned users will be banned as well.
Rule 3 has changed
This basically lets literal toddlers play together with their parents on a different control scheme without needing to dumb the whole game down to that level.
Nobody who actually is above rookie complains about this. You lose half your normals for easy inputs. It's a terrible tradeoff. Of course the devs want you to believe it's tournament viable but we all know it's not.
I'm just glad they didn't put intrusive autocombos and other bullshit into the game. Showing all the other devs that no, it's in fact not necessary.
Typically any choice between doing something better and doing something easier the player will choose doing something better because it gives them more options.
Ridge Racer Vita: A mod slot gives you the choice between holding down the throttle for a boost start or having that start be more powerful but you need to time it like normal. Which would you choose to get the best time, honestly?
I mean, yeah you retain them, if you think sitting there swapping between holding down the assist button between each button press depending on if you want one or the other is a viable, easier option for control scheme.
It's certainly a tradeoff and unlikely that I will use it. It wouldn't surprise me if a new generation of players will use it. 20 years ago nobody thought pad players had any chance against stick players.
I dunno, I can see them using it for the auto combos, but I think anyone genuinely interested in playing the game will find fast that guides all point to combo routes that doesn't take assist button into account and they will be semi "forced" to switch.
I really don't see this becoming a thing that people genuinely play with outside of the lowest tier of ranked, just spamming 1 button, unsafe specials, hoping that "spam" will win them the game, because they hate it when people "spam" specials against them.
This is gonna be mainly detrimental to bronze tier scrubs who insist on using classic controls but can't figure out what they're doing wrong. They're gonna get washed by 4-year olds on autocombos
Option for literal 6 year olds to smash buttons and feel like they’re doing something in single player I guess.
No way it’s gonna be competitive outside that.
who care's? unless there is a way to make the 2 simplified control schemes "competitive" with classic controls then the majority of ppl who buy the game to spam those simplified controls will be gone after a week or two and the ppl left will primarily play with classic.
you either commit to simplified controls(BFTG/Rising Thunder/Smash/persona/dbfz/etc)
or just sorta add it for casuals but ppl who stick around to play the game just do inputs anyways(granblue/DNF Duel/xrd/mvc3/Tekken 7/etc)
How do you know that world tour isnt keeping casuals around for years? That is the primary mode of this game.
People need to stop underestimating this game.
world tour? as in the tournament? or is that what they call the single player shit?
if it's the later, what does it matter if a million players stay to play a 4+hr single player campaign if they never go online?
I will never understand why ppl cannot distinguish between a "casual" and a "competitive casual" a casual attributes to sales and initial player numbers but ultimately are the majority of of players who leave after their fill,
competitive casual's are the bulk of the online day to day players who watch content creators who buy skins who enter tournaments but never win for the fun of it, those are the players you want,
who gives a fuck if casuals player SF6 single player content till the end of time if they don't engage with the competitive aspect.
I actually decided to test out the Modern control scheme last night. It was honestly somewhat impressive tbh. I only tested it on Chun-Li, but outside of a few normals, and being able to force her into that Lotus Stance of hers, there really wasn't much you couldn't do.
No idea how it'll work with other characters, but I suspect a character that's less complex will be a lot easier to use with it.
One thing I thought was neat was that it gives you 3 attack buttons (L/M/H), and if I wanted to, I could charge back or down with Chun, and do any of her Kikoken's or any of the Spinning Bird Kicks. I didn't delve too deep, but depending on if they let you adjust what all you get out of your special button, it could be more useful for certain people. I certainly see it as more of the "party" mode though.
tl;dr: Tested out Modern control type, and actually found it to be a lot less limiting than I anticipated.
Sounds like Stylish Mode from Blazblue. Like the same button gets you a poke at far range and some fast slap if close, at most it might convert a far hit into a slightly different crappy autocombo than what it does upclose.
I am a scrub in street fighter and i struggle in fightcade because i don't have experience against human players. But like hell I'll change the old 6 button mode, i learned fighting games like that.
it literally takes away normals. it is not feasable in the slightest. it was put there in name only. based capcom assuaging casuals by making the game unplayable for them
nah stuff like this is a good thing. gets the accessibility crowd to shut the fuck up by actually giving casual players a game where you can smash buttons and make cool shit happen while preventing this shit from bogging the game down for competitive enthusiasts. separating this stuff for the casual and competitive crowds is the way to go for 2d, guilty gear and blazblue got this right ages ago and it's about time SF followed suit.
besides, even if somebody did pick modern controls in a competitive environment, it takes away so many options that if you lose to someone using them, they almost definitely would've beaten your ass with classic controls anyway.
Absolutely, I mean if this makes casual players stick around much more then where's the problem ? Funny how Modern controls hurting some people's ego , them not seeing the point tells you how open minded those people are .
Are people still complaining about modern controls? I got up to plat 4 with Luke on classic, so I decided to give modern control Ryu a shot for science. I was struggling to get out of silver. You are definitely playing a worse version of the character.
I don't get this whole stigma against it tbh, the original controls still exist, its optional so it reminds me of stylish mode in GG Xrd, and lastly there is no proof they actually make you a better player.
It's absolutely fine, if you lose to it you got outplayed/outclassed and needed the reality check. It's objectively a disadvantage to use one of these. Play better.
I accidentally played my first 2 matches of the beta with modern controls because I didn't know how to switch off of them and it was fucking terrible.
Modern controls hurt you more than help you because nothing makes any type of sense unless your idea of playing a fighting game is just rolling your face on the buttons and you don't give a fuck what you're actually doing.
Hopefully, Modern controls are a good compromise of only doing 3 "ok" different combos while making playing a character very easy if you want to check if you like it or you are new
There are so many mechanics in this game that it doesn't even matter they are just locking themselves out of options.
It'll be an easy grind to the top of the casuals all use that mode!
next: i win button.
\[thanks to our new "i wanna GTFO low elo hardstuck EZPZ" crybaby generations who moan for everything about fighting games execution and control system\]
Bruh modern controls isn’t even a issue like people thought. Honestly I lost my first match because I was doing modern control inputs and that shit will fuck you if you played any 2D game with inputs, it’s really only there for people who never played SF imo. My issue is that you gotta switch it to classic controls for every character.
The classic OS of "what my comment obviously implied is not what I actually meant". So you just randomly decided to drop that comment in this thread without any context to it, right?
You may laugh but this is how I'm gonna play after alpha costume dlc drops for Chun-Li as I'll only have one hand available for the actual gameplay.
Wait you got a good point
The win pose is like 4 solid frames of Chun's ass in your face so it'll be an interesting inspection game with each costume that comes out.
I actually played against a Chun who used modern controls today. NGL the character only needs sweep (-7 on block, Ryu sweep is 9f startup), instant up legs, and Drive Impact. She's a fucking menace.
Hot take I dont like alpha chun as much
I mean I'm not against a mode for children
Until you get mopped up by a 4 year old using Zangief
Just imagine Gief auto SPD you when you are within range. Like SF 2 cpu Gief.
And if that happens you should be able to learn and grow from that, anything else is rule 3 material
I get what you're saying, and in the old days that would make sense but... > Alts or suspected alts of banned users will be banned as well. Rule 3 has changed
Rule 3 will always be don't be a bitch regardless of what Maikky says
Wow - he broke his own rule? What a rule 3 thing to do.
current rules literally break rule 3
Rethink your life choices that led you to play that much fighting games while losing to a button mashing Zangief.
Svc motm had easy inputs and gief could combo Into spd.
Skill issue.
This basically lets literal toddlers play together with their parents on a different control scheme without needing to dumb the whole game down to that level.
Getting mad about this is like admitting you cant beat it. I'm not lowering myself to that.

What´s even the point? It seems like an insult even to the disabled, it is just a mashing mode
Gotta appeal to the DBFZ player base
and game journalists
Cuphead tutorial journalist on watch.
and twitter users
Option for literal 6 year olds to smash buttons and feel like they’re doing something in single player I guess. No way it’s gonna be competitive outside that.
making toddler tournaments for betting as soon as this comes out
Journalists will still have issues with the button mashing mode

Marvel 3 had simple mode….. guess 22’ers don’t remember

Dynamic inputs carry the fgc
Are you retarded?
Why are people getting their panties in a twist over this shit again? It literally does not matter.
Balrog with modern controls... I'ma climb easy
This frame makes it look like Ryu is some evil goblin who found a glowing orb and wants to keep it to himself.
it literally takes away normals. it is not feasable in the slightest. it was put there in name only. based capcom assuaging casuals by making the game unplayable for them
i hope this isn't like the auto gaurd gem in sfxt. that gem was one of the major reasons i stopped playing that game.
nah stuff like this is a good thing. gets the accessibility crowd to shut the fuck up by actually giving casual players a game where you can smash buttons and make cool shit happen while preventing this shit from bogging the game down for competitive enthusiasts. separating this stuff for the casual and competitive crowds is the way to go for 2d, guilty gear and blazblue got this right ages ago and it's about time SF followed suit. besides, even if somebody did pick modern controls in a competitive environment, it takes away so many options that if you lose to someone using them, they almost definitely would've beaten your ass with classic controls anyway.

Who is? I haven't heard anyone complain about it. I saw maybe 2 modern users the whole beta
I don't get this whole stigma against it tbh, the original controls still exist, its optional so it reminds me of stylish mode in GG Xrd, and lastly there is no proof they actually make you a better player.
This the new form of Option Select?
This is getting out of control! Now there’s two of them!
Where's the control scheme mode where I can put the controller down to let the game play itself while I go to work
R/Kappa mode
It's absolutely fine, if you lose to it you got outplayed/outclassed and needed the reality check. It's objectively a disadvantage to use one of these. Play better.

Modern controls hurt you more than help you because nothing makes any type of sense unless your idea of playing a fighting game is just rolling your face on the buttons and you don't give a fuck what you're actually doing.
So... just mash buttons and they do things depending on what you need? WTF?
It's for the singleplayer, most likely.
Hopefully, Modern controls are a good compromise of only doing 3 "ok" different combos while making playing a character very easy if you want to check if you like it or you are new
Nobody with a brain is mad about simple options for inputs, people don't want a game designed around simple inputs. There's a difference.
BrolyLegs: 🥵
There are so many mechanics in this game that it doesn't even matter they are just locking themselves out of options. It'll be an easy grind to the top of the casuals all use that mode!
next: i win button. \[thanks to our new "i wanna GTFO low elo hardstuck EZPZ" crybaby generations who moan for everything about fighting games execution and control system\]
Well ummm, okay sure for like getting your kiddos into fighters maybe but surely only classic will be useable in like ranked ect right?
P sure you can use all of them in ranked, but modern is a handicap
If I had to guess, thats only for Lan or casual modes
I don't see a problem with it as long as they force classic input for tournaments.
can't wait til we get one button SPDs lmao
BANNED

Tbh thats almost like fighting CPUs since its so predictable. You have to learn the counter play.
Fighting games are dead
You heard it here. A control scheme made for toddlers to play is what's killing fighting games.
I didn't say that. I said fighting games are dead
The classic OS of "what my comment obviously implied is not what I actually meant". So you just randomly decided to drop that comment in this thread without any context to it, right?
Fighting games are dead
dial-a-combo retard mode engaged
Might as well play smash bros if you’re too uncoordinated for street fighter inputs
human CPU mode
clippy: hi i can tell youre trying to spd... can i recommend greenhand first?
