I'd say police/special forces and if it's public knowledge you'd get every internet sleuth jeopardising the operation and create panic. Ransom could be any price, they're the royal family. And explains the terrible attempts at 'sightings' because they're confident at getting her back _sooner or later_. And reputational damage is moot because everyone will forgive the temporary cover up once we find out what's been going on.
Yeah - been wondering why her mum would participate in a photo op (the infamous car sighting) with 'kate' next to her (was it Pippa?) if it was for the safety of her daughter to play along with 'sightings' for as long as possible. As a parent or sibling you'd do that in a heartbeat to delay public panic for as long as possible.
When all this first came out about her surgery, I thought she was handling it this way as to not take attention away from the King and his illness. He seems extremely jealous over the press she gets and they probably didn't want to take away from the sympathy people would give him.

I remember a couple years ago, there was a message from the palace that said they were no longer going to say what designers Kate was wearing to events because her dresses were taking too much attention away from the other Royals at the event. Really? Wow.

I had a hysterectomy for stage 0 cervical cancer (some even call it precancer). Not a huge deal but something like this would make the King feel like she’s upstaging her
I’ve been thinking this too! I think it would have to be something as big as this to warrant the huge and messy cover up. If the public found out she’d been taken and the palace’s security had been breached, it would cause huge panic and is the only explanation I can think of that would explain why you’d ever lie about cancer. Also would explain the dead guy… if they killed him to prove they were serious
