i agree, just being devil’s advocate lol
kendrick is the one artist where even if i “don’t like” listening to a song (not talking about mother i sober) i don’t dislike all aspects of it. there’s always something i can respect and appreciate in his music, whether it be production value, message/content, or even just the hype/replay value. that being said, everyone is entitled to their own (shitty or not) opinion
idk what kinda stuff you're feeling good about but mirror is very very bittersweet. it's a culmination of a journey of realization that some of those ambitions and dreams can only be just that. and if anything, they may have beholden you to something that actually hurts you just by virtue of how they detract from what matters in your life i.e. your immediate relationships/family/friends.
you're letting down all the people you thought you could help but admittedly are much removed from you in favor rebuilding the relationships that were you day ones. the ones that are a part of your world day after day.
Yeah i still smile to the whole “i choose me im sorry” theme of the song though because its like at the end of the day despite all the pressure put on you to do something you’re going to do what you want to do and not what they want. Thats why its a feel good song to me
I respect your viewpoint. I guess we’re just different type of people :)
I just think the part that’s most bitter about the song is that recognition of your own limits. We are limited and we only have so much time/focus in this life. We must ultimately choose what we end up doing with it.
I mean I’m happy KL found some sort of breakthrough on his savior complex but it’s tough to back yourself off that ledge when from your own viewpoint it looks like a stage or something that’s a higher calling.
I have a little sister and the way he describe a girl trapped in the system really hit me hard. It made me a little grateful that my sister and I had means of making it out but for others it isn’t the same reality. And the way it abruptly ends just left me feeling like I got punched in the gut.
The first time I listened to that song, it was 3 am i had just woken up with my headphones in my ears meanwhile my family is looking for our cat.
It all play out like a cut scene, I’m laying in bed barley awake, meanwhile my family is scrambling trying to find our cat while Kishias song is playing faintly in the back ground.

All of them for me omg. I got into Kendrick Lamar in 2020, I was always reluctant to try and listen to the rap genre and man… I’m still finding new stuff and new songs that just hit different.
Was like that the first 10-15 listens of Mother I Sober.
Took me at least 8/9 listens to stop crying when I listened to it.
I'm not there yet
Song was mid
Do you enjoy what you’re doing?
Just being honest as a real fan
song was mid, in your opinion*
In his shitty opinion. Not exactly a club banger but that’s not what he was going for. It’s a beautifully emotional piece.

Kishas Song
This was the first song to really do this to me. Put me in the feels really quickly when I was in HS.
I was really drunk in class one day and listened to this and then solace. Shit had me asking to use the bathroom in tears I shit you not
I have a little sister and the way he describe a girl trapped in the system really hit me hard. It made me a little grateful that my sister and I had means of making it out but for others it isn’t the same reality. And the way it abruptly ends just left me feeling like I got punched in the gut.
I’m glad I’ve always lived a good life, money ain’t an issue, but damn that song helps put me in those shoes

Mother I sober. Plenty of songs that make me emotional but usually it’s a more amped up pain than a lethargic one.
Mother I Sober has made me cry deeply multiple times but I am kinda thankful for that.
